Adaptor: MDP- HDMI. No Sound on Mac OS. It works on Windows. Why??????

So i have an imac 21.5 (Late 2009), and i use a mini display port -> HDMI adaptor to connect it to my tv. The video is fine, but there is no sound! There is no option on the output menu in the system preferences.
BUT
if i connect it using windows on the imac (bootcamp) it works fine And it doesnt need configuration.
Working on windows and not on OS, it *****!!

Can't get skype to work on mac partition but works on windows partition

i can't seem to get my skype to work on the mac side. it works fine and i've tested it on the windows side (windows xp) but it doesn't work when i'm logged into the mac side.
any suggestions?

Do you have the mac version of skype ? the version of skype that is for mac downloaded on your mac partition?

This is expected. Serial numbers are platform specific and platform swaps only apply to current versions. You need to upgrade to CS6 and make the switch.

[AIR] File Not Found in MAC OS but Works in Windows

Hi All
I have an htmlFolder in my "src" which contains html files. What I do is, that at runtime i render the html File in <mx:HTML id="htmlView"> using the following code.
htmlView.location = "app:/htmlFolder/sub-folder/fileName.html";
Problem ->
This works fine in windows, but does not work in MAC OS. Probably because windows uses folder structure, not sure about MAC OS, but i guess it installs as a single file containing sub-folders hidden from user. Does anyone knows a solution to it?

and have also tried the following, as mentioned by Atif

but what I have noticed is that it actually finds out the file.. because there is another file, a db file, which does not need to be rendered on html, is picked u perfectly, is updated, and everything can be done to it.
So the problem is rendering of HTML
in mac............... how do we render local html files ??? Why local.. because i was able to open up youtube.com

Formatting Mac HDD to work with windows files/applications

I was thinking of partitioning the hardrive and formatting one partition whatever way I would need to in order to use it like a Windows computer, because I really have no use for my Mac, if I cant get it to run many applications that are windows exclusive. However I would need to send for the Tiger startup disk, and I dont want to pay for it unless I'm sure that this is even possible, and I want to know what I am doing
Anyway I dont really know that much about macs, so exactly what do I need, and what do I need to do, for it to work with windows/PC files and applications?
And My Harddrive has a total of 9.5 GB, and only four GB of free space (I dont even have anything on the computer, so I don't know what is taking so much space) is that enough space to do whatever it is i'm talking about?

virtual PC is pretty slow, I wouldn't really recommend it at this point on an old iMac. maybe for really light duty things. Frankly, you're probably better off just selling, donating or getting rid of it and getting a cheap PC. a cheap PC is a cheap PC, and in my opinion very inferior to the mac, but it will run windows much faster.
Or just use it as a mac. A mac can do just about anything a windows box can, and is usually more reliable. Files can be read without problems in most cases. Give it a shot.

Analog surround sound on Mac -what does work?

okay, I'm sure this has been covered before, if so- i haven't really heard of it. Are there any options for analog surround sound on the Mac currently , that is, surround sound using the 3 stereo plugs, and not the optical/coaxial digital plug? the latter requires a speaker set with digital input, and I'm not quite ready to sell the speakers I have just for that, not yet
Oh, and affordable would be great too. Maybe I can find something, but I'm not going to pay $500 just for the firewire box, so I can hook up these speakers to my Mac

Some PDFs not working in Preview. Mac created PDFS work but windows created PDFS dont

Some PDFs not working in Preview. I installed adobe reader and then deleted it because the software was aweful and PDFs have been haveing issues ever since. I can open up PDFs created on my Mac in preview just fine...
But when I try and open a PDF created on a windows computer it says:

I am not sure why where the PDF was created would make a difference but couldnt help but notice that was the difference between the PDF files that work and the ones that give that message. I can view the PDFs on a windows computer just fine and never had issues untill adobe, it seems to have messed up PDFs on my Mac and I am so frustrated with them. I have searched my computer for any remaining adobe files, deleted them and restarted my computer but I am still getting this message.

Uninstall Adobe Reader's plug-in.
Remove the following two files from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/:
AdobePDFViewer.plugin
AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
Open Safari Preferences > Extensions. Do you see AdobePDFViewer? If yes. disable.
Log out/in and test.
Another option is to download and install this plugin. Schubert|it PDF Browser Plugin . PDF Browser Plugin 2 is free for not-for-profit activities if used at home or at educational institutions.

Second display won't work on mac partition but works on windows

Hey I have a 21.5" imac from mid 2011 and have recently update to OS X Mavericks.
I bought a mini dp to hdmi to connect a second monitor up to my imac a month or so ago. At the time I was running 10.6.8 and thought that may be why it wasn't picking up the second display.
All the while the second monitor has been working fine on my windows 7 partition.
Hoping anyone can shed some light on this.

I was using our company API tokbox SDK to do the servers test between two machines. I blocked one machine ipfw to test the server connection. However, our server connection works well when we are using two mac firefox browser, but not succeed when we were using one windows and one mac machine.

Sound and mouse scrolling not working in windows 8

I installed windows 8 on my Imac (late 2011). I have managed to solve most of the compatability issues but the three I have left are No Sound (I really need this), scroll wheels dont work on any mouse (nor does the touch functions of the magic mouse), and the facetime camera doesn't work. If you could help me solve any of these issues it would be excellent. Also yes I am aware that apple will eventually release drivers for windows 8 but I need it now, so don't tell me to wait. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Wait. Or, remove Windows 8 and install Windows 7. Or, install Windows 8 using Parallels or Fusion rather than using Bootcamp Assistant.

My Firepod (presonus) not working on windows xp on my mac ?

Hi guys, so here is the deal.
I just baught a 17inch 2.8 mac book pro to help me with music recording.
I am an old pc user and all my programs are for that platform.
So what I did is install windows xp pro (legal version) with the help of boot camp.
Everything went well (driver, internet, wireless, video, everything).
I made a sh** load of test and all the fonctions are working just fine.
The only problem is with my presonus firepod sound card.
I downloaded the latest drivers (version 2.46) on the presonus site and I ran the installation wihtout any problems. I even had a windows auto detect and auto install warning while I was installing the firepod. So there is a recognition of the device by the computer for sure. After I completed the installation (I had a message from the set-up program) I saw the desktop icon appear and a click on the control panel button confirmed me that connection is good.
SO THE PROBLEM IS:
I can't find/see the devide in the audio devide selection menu in the sound control panel. I don't see it in the in, out and recording menu. I just see the reel tech hd device.
Concequence: I can't select the sound card and make it work under window XP for no reason.
Even in cubase, I see that the device is there and install, but when I click on it I have the : no device conected warning.
With my pc that use the same version of windows xp, the system would even select automaticly the presonus sounnd card as primary if it was plugged in the computer at the start up, I neved had to select it manually in the sound control panel, but the icons and all the inputs where there if I wanted.
The light at the front panel usually turn blue when the connection is made but when I am on XP on my mac, all I see is red and no external sound card anywhere even after the proper drivers installation.
can anyone help me ?
The sound card is working just fine when I boot Mac Os leopard or with my laptop pc, so I know that it's not the problem.

Would a Mac-ready GPU work in a PC?

I've been doing a lot of reading on getting the right graphics card for my set up and I can't get a fix on this question: Could I use a Mac-ready GPU in a PC? (And if so, are any mods necessary?)
I have a Mid-2010 Mac Pro (8-core) that currently has a stock Radeon HD 5770. I mostly edit video for a living and I've somehow gotten by with that card alone. But it's time for an upgrade and all reasearch points to the Nvidia GTX 680 (for Mac).
I understand you can flash a card to be EFI compatible, but there is little to no discussion about going in the other direction. Why would I even bother? Because it looks like Apple is abandoning the "Pro" line up as the 2013 Mac Pro is not meant to be upgradeable like previous versions. And generally speaking, I'm feeling increasingly locked in to whatever Apple wants me to do next. (No hate for Apple here, but I'm just keeping an eye out for the future.)
The only indication I've found online is The Golden Guide to Flashing Graphics Cards (I can't seem to insert the link but you can Google it easily). It is a general but still thorough breakdown of how/why cards are flashed in the first place. And since EFI is a "successor" to BIOS, the guide explicitly states that Mac-ready GPUs work fine in a PC. It's going from PC to Mac that is the problem.
I know it's explicitly talking about booting up in one OS vs another, but is this generally true?
I also suspect that there's no way of telling what mods I'd need until I know what my future set up would be. (I have no idea what that set up would be, btw.)
Right now it seems that it wouldn't matter which card I pick because one way or another it has to be Mac ready. Any insight would be appreciated, though. Thanks!
To be thorough: I'm currently running CS6 and most of my work is in Premiere Pro where I need to do rdiciulous amounts of Color Correction, blurring, scaling and more Warp Stabilizing than should be necessary. The GTX-680 seems like the right card.

And I have the answers, according to a rep for EVGA, maker of the GTX 680 for Mac:
In response to my initial question: The 680 Mac card will work in Windows in addition to the Mac OS.
In response to my questions about the power supply and the PCIe slots:
There are no issues when using the card in a PC, you would connect it just like you would normally. The card would operate as normal since the power in a PC is directly given to the graphics card as opposed as received through the motherboard for a MAC.
The card will work in PCI-e 2.0 and 3.0 slots.
It's not the most thorough response (as I asked if the Mac version would do the same job but with less overhead as the original and what through-put I'd get from the PCI slots) but they have confirmed twice that the card works just fine. So, apparently, when you pay the extra money for a Mac-ready card, you're also paying for backwards compatibility. Maybe that's a bit of a broad generalization, but it's true in this case.

Close MacBook Pro while using MDP- HDMI adaptor ?

I have the Moshi MDP-HDMI adaptor. It works very well and transports audio well too.
I just want to know if it is possible to close the lid of the MacBook Pro while using MDP->HDMI adaptor ? (as in stopping it from going into sleep mode) So that it can be stowed neatly under the display unit when watching movies/presentations etc. rather than the lid having to be open a couple of inches...

That can be done but there are conditions that must be met. For example, the MBP needs to be plugged into its power adapter. And then an external keyboard and mouse are needed. See here:
