Adblock doesn't work in version 18

OK, I admit that I have been using an old version of Firefox on two machines for a long time. I just got so tired of being told to update every few days! On my laptop (version 10) Adblock works fine. On a new machine I'm setting up now, using version 18, I find that the old Adblock is not available, but am told to try a newer version. However this doesn't work. Is Adblock a thing of the past? I certainly hope not!

Yes - Adblock simply does not block ads! For example on online newspaper sites, Adblock very efficiently removes all advertising on my old laptop using version 10 of FF, but on this new machine using version 18 and the newer Adblock, all the ads are displayed.
Yes, I know all about the security vulnerabilities, but as I said, I got so tired of Firefox updating itself every few days at one time, only to cause problems with add-ons that were no longer compatible. And if Adblock does not work in newer versions of FF, I will be even less inclined to update it!

I don't know about Growl as I've never used it. But I'd remove anything that might involve your internet connection. To remove Growl: http://growl.info/documentation/growl-package-removal.php

Do you have access to another computer so you could download another browser, perhaps onto a USB stick and then install it on your Mac just to see if the problem is Safari specific:

I've network in my company and installing internal web proxy that allow clients to connect to the internet (ISA 2004). i'm using the Firefox as default browser in my network. so what i need that no one in my network clients can't change the proxy settings or it just be dimmed. i did it in the previous version but when i try the steps in version 4 it doesn't work so I'm asking for solution for that.

Mail Doesn't Work (Wrong version message) after updating 10.5.3

I just upgraded using software updater over the weekend and now Mail will not start. Error message is:
"You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version of Mac OSX.
Ideas?

7.3.2.6 doesn't work. latest version won't install - can't delete 7.3.2.6!?

In the course of trying to free up some disk space, i think I may have randomly deleted some important iTunes files (oops!)
itunes will not work.Clicking on the shortcut says:+This action is only valid for products which are curently installed+ So tried re-installing 7.3.2.6 & get a message: +"The older version cannot be removed. contact your technical support"+. Then tried uninstalling 7.3.2.6 & got the message: +'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable+". Then I saw there is a newer version; 7.4, downloaded that & tried to install, but once again it cannot uninstall the older version. Trying to uninstall 7.3.2.6 akso gives the message +'Click OK to try again or enter an alternative path to the folder containing itunes.msi'+, but there is no other folder, so I'm completely stuck. My only option may be to find all the registry entries which contain'itunes'& delete them, But I am aware this could be dangerous & leave me with an unstable machine. Any other suggestions?

Fixed It! after reading another thread, I downloaded the Windows installer cleanup utility, deleted the Apple Software update utility, and the latest version has now been successfully installed.

Tonesync doesn't work with version 11.1.3.8 of itunes

This version and the last version of itunes seems to not work with tonesync for zedge.

You need to COPY the folder "iTunes.Resources" from C:\Program Files\iTunes over to C:\Program Files(x86)\iTunes. Then try running the Zedge install, it should prompt you through the tutorial. Good luck and also it does work.

Html 5 publishing doesn't work in version 8

Just upgraded to Version 8 on Windows 7.
When I choose html 5 to publish a file the publishing window shows "copying assets" disappears after a few seconds and doesn't publish. In the publishing folder I see all the folders and the file project.json but not the html files. assets\htmlimages also contains images as well but not the outputed html5 files.

Can you change the publish folder location and try to publish again.?
You should ideally get a index.html file in the published output, when you publish the project as html5. Also, after you see the "copying assets" dialog, you should get a message for successful publish and whether you wish to view the output or not.

I get an ad, which is in a form of a Safari webpage, and it is an unwanted publicity
This announcement appears permanently, without any order in time or where I am clicking on any safari page.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

when i say download the software from the Apple's website i mean download the software update for mac os x 10.3.9
as once you reinstall panther again it will revise back to the original version of the OS which came along with the computer when you purchased which will cause safari to be incompatible with
so once you do a software update for you operating system it will get it compatible with safari
so to get the update you can download it from the computer you have it burn the update on a CD or DVD and then install it on this computer

once you have downloaded it burn it to a disc and install it on your computer

How do I stop all the ads and popups when Adblock won't work?

I've been having trouble with Safari and Google Chrome, but of ads and popups. I downloaded an extension called Adblock, but it hasn't worked for me at all.
On my Macbook I can easily go on Safari or Google Chrome without any kind of popups, and now that I know, that Adblock doesn't work, doesn't work, I really don't know what to do. I've checked Preferences in Safari and in Security I have checkmarked the first three things saying:
Warn me when a fraudulent website is visited - checkmarked
Turn on JavaScript - checkmarked (if I don't checkmark it, I won't be able to check my bank account and stuff like that)
Block pop-ups - checkmarked
Please I beg of you, Apple or someone else help me.

ix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

New Version Doesn't Work On ESPN

All I get is the black box on most of espn.com. The problem started when I downloaded the new version. I can watch video on most sites; but the screen simply stays black, with no arrows or control bar at the bottom (play, volume, etc.) on espn.com and a couple of others. I've tried most of the "fixes" I've found, to no avail. I'm using FP version 10.3.181.34 and IE 8 with Windows 7 on a laptop. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and it still doesn't work. I don't have any adblock software, and I've tried it with a pop-up blocker on and off, and it still doesn't work. I've tried it with hardware acceleration enabled and disabled, and it still doesn't work. I've increased and decreased my security settings to every available level and tried it, and it still doesn't work.
Hard to believe this is an improvement. Now I can't remember what my old version was, or I'd just go back to it... it worked with everything on every site.

Perhaps to somebody who spends most of their time on a computer, and makes it their business to know how to do all these things, it isn't jumping through hoops. For someone with no time and less patience for such tasks, and who expects a computer company and its hardware and software manufacturers to automatically provide working updates for the equipment they paid good money for, it is a burden. I have spent hours trying to either update that driver or find out why it's a bad idea to do so. I happen to believe them when they advise against it, and suggest it could have other negative effects on other aspects of the system. Not only do I believe it, it's happened to me on more than one occasion over the years; so I'm understandably hesitant to discard the advice of the manufacturer and give it a try on my own.
I updated all my drivers from the Dell driver update utility; and like the Intel site said, there isn't an updated one for my adapter. So, my choices appear to be, try the driver that isn't necessarily designed for my system, and hope for the best; or just uninstall the new version of FP, and reinstall the previous version that worked just fine. Because I'm not savvy enough to undo any potentially disastrous consequences from using the wrong driver, I'm leaning toward the latter resolution. I'm also having a tough time understanding how that single driver update is going to make my FP finally work for only the ESPN site. As I said, with the current driver, it works on virtually every other site, and the old version of FP, with the current driver, worked on every site, bar none. So, essentially I'd be installing a whole new driver that may or may not make my FP work on a single site. See what I'm getting at? It doesn't seem plausible that the driver was designed for the sole purpose of making one application work on a single site. Thanks for all the assistance; I appreciate everyone who devoted so much time to my issue.
