ADC/dvi video  card

Is it possible to get a ADC/Dvi video card for an open PCi X slot? or would I be better off getting a card w/2 dvis and purchasing the adapter because it is older technology? I have an older 23" display.

A PCI slot wouldn't have the extra connector that provides the display power, so ADC cards are only made for AGP slots.

Nope, you can only use it with a Thunderbolt port.

  • Which dual DVI video card for Mac Pro?

We just got a Mac Pro at work with a single DVI port video card. Want to use 2 monitors, but don't want to order an incompatible card. Don't need screaming performance, just a stable setup for a sprawling desktop with some applications running low-res/low-frame-rate animation.
One Evga card that looked like about the right specs was shown on MacMall's site as 'platform: universal' but the manufacturer's site specifed Windows and Vista. Called MacMall and tech support said it wasn't supported. So, now I'm suspicious.
Anyone have a list of decent cards that will work? Would like to keep it at or under $100.

You could just add an adapter, though not everyone is happy with that, for your 2nd port on the GT120.
Could wait for Nvidia eVGA GTX 285 Mac Edition next month.

  • DVI video cards for older PowerMacs

    Hi all,
Just curious but may I be able to install dvi video PCI cards in my 8600 and G3 mini-tower like the way G4 towers are configured?
    Thanks for your help
    web dude

PCI versions of the Radeon MacEdition with fan, Radeon 7000, and Radeon 9200 are available with that connector in addition to a VGA connector. But shop very carefully, the AGP versions (with the quirky little tab at the end of the connector) are plentiful and affordable and will not fit in those Macs.

  • Best dual DVI video card for 2009 MP running Windows

Sorry if this question has been posted before, or if I'm in the wrong forum. I searched the Windows Compatibility forum and didn't find the answer.
I have a 2009 Mac Pro (8 core) running Windows Server 2008 64 bit. I would like to upgrade the stock GT120 video card. I don't play games on it, but I do need to drive a pair of 24" widescreen LCD monitors at 1920x1200 or higher and extend the desktop onto the second monitor.
I see that the 8800GT (Apple part MB137Z/A) is still available, although Apple is pushing the ATI 4870. Does anyone know which of these cards would work the best with Windows?
    Thanks!

Thanks Hatter. I thought the video card had to have special EFI firmware in order for the Mac Pro to even recognize it as a video card (regardless of which OS's are installed).
Are you saying that if I'm only running Windows, I can use ANY PCI-Express video card? Sweeeeeet!
Now, for cards that ARE available in a specific Mac version (such as the GTX285 and ATI 4870), are they as well supported in Windows as they are in Mac OS (from a driver point of view)? I suppose other than the MAC-specific firmware, the graphics chipset for both versions of the card are the same, therefore the drivers should be the same.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Inexpensive Dual-DVI video card for Cubase 6.5 & Adobe Premiere CS6, on Win7x64

I need a card for both and I can't find one that is "approved" for both. Is anyone using these two programs together? I'm currently using a pair of ATI FireGL V3350 cards that, so far, play video fine in Premiere (haven't done any editing or AE yet) but not in Cubase 6. I'm not a pro so a high end card would be lost on me. An inexpensive card that can handle standard editing in Premiere with some AE, no advanced 3-D (titles only?), and will also play video in Cubase 6.5 is what I'm looking for.
    Thanks in advance

hello, @ MD:  this should be fun:  i use Reason7
in the general forum there is a thread about mulitple monitors
some of the PPRO users here might get a kick out of this as well and/or have comments/advice
    here is most of it:
    CELTICDALE:
Hi! I`ve been using 3 screens for 7-8 years on 4 different systems.
This solution works on any system I can think of, laptop or desktop.
    Matrox TripleHead2Go (Digital Edition) (TH2Go)
It works by splitting the signal from 1 DVI or VGA port to 3 screens.
I just bougt a GTX690 which have 3 DVI ports, but I only use 1 with
the TH2Go because it works perfect without any hassle. The beauty
of it, compared to what others are suggesting, is that you can use
this whith whatever system you have, and you don`t have to by a new
solution (graphics card) if you upgrade. It`s external, so you can
easily move it to another computer. There are no fans and it gets
power from a USB port and use almost no power compared to an extra
gfx card. I also still have to free ports from my GTX690, allowing
me to add 2 more screens if I want.
If you hook it up to a laptop, you can use the laptop screen + up to 3
extra screens. I can run this on an 8 year old laptop I have, with no problems..
People who are suggesting that DVI is getting phased out, are wrong.
The worlds newest and fastest single GPU highend card comes with
2 DVI ports (GTX780, and is released tomorrow)
When I travel, it fits easily inside my laptop bag. Only thing I need
extra is the cables and adapters to hook up to different types of ports.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815106011
    http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/pr...connect_video/
The only way to go in my opinion...
    Good luck!
PS. There are different models, with HDMI also, but I reccommend the
model I linked to, as you can just go with adapter if you want to
connect to HDMI and don`t need to send sound to the screen. In the
rare cases I connect sound to the screen, I just use a minijack cable.
But of cource, you know best what you need..
hope this helps in some way, cheers, j

  • G5 - Running three displays with two DVI video cards?

I'm currently running two 23" apple displays on my Dual G5 2.7 through the ATI apple stock card. I want to add another card so that I can run a total of three or four displays...is this possible? Yeah it may sound crazy, but the space is much needed for the work I do...thanks for any help!

You can put the ATI Radeon® 9200 128MB PCI Mac® Edition
<http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=2531468> in a PCI slot. It has a DVI and a VGA output. it will be a lot slower than you AGP car because PCI is slower.

  • Proper video card to run a 23" display on a PC

I am trying to set up a HP Media Center PC and G4 Mirror Door on a DVI KVM switch. My goal is to view the desktop of each on my 23" Cinema Display, but in order to do so I need a DVI video card that will push the widescreen format. Any recommendations (preferably nvidia or ATI that I can get at the local big box store)?

    Hi-
Each machine needs a DVI port equipped (or ADC in the case of the MDD- use an ADC to DVI adapter), minimum VRAM of 32MB, that has the ability to support 1920 x 1200 digital resolution.
What is currently installed in each machine?

  • G4 Video Card Issue

I have just installed an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro card with one DVI port and one VGA port with the following plan in mind.
I don't have a ton of budget to spend on my system and have opted to continue to use my two 15" Apple Studio Displays but needed to upgrade my video card to make use of Motion and some other applications. I would use one DVI to ADC connection as I had been using for my second monitor and add a second DVI to ADC connector and a VGA to DVI adaptor I bought from Sewell Direct. I was unable to send any signal through the VGA connector but do not have a VGA monitor here to check if it is the VGA to DVI converter or possibly a bad VGA port on the card.
Has anybody done anything like this or have any insight into my problem here. I have a feeling that perhaps using the VGA to DVI is just sending it through too many conversions.
Any thoughts? And thanks in advance!

This is the device I am using.
    http://sewelldirect.com/dviaftovgam.asp
"This adapter will convert your classic VGA port to a
DVI port allowing you to connect a DVI monitor to a
    computer's VGA port."
This adapter only sends the analog signal to the analog pins of a DVI connector. It will not work with a LCD that needs digital signals.
"This adapter is NOT compatible with digital (DVI-D) signals, but only for DVI-I monitors and DVI-I graphics cards that emit and accept DVI-A signals."
This will work with a CRT with a DVI connector, although I don't know why anyone would make such a CRT. To run two digital displays you need:
    1) A different video card with two digital connectors.
    2) An additional PCI video card with a digital connector. (Will not be as fast because it will not use the AGP)
    or
    3) a more expensive VGA to DVI adapter such as the Genfen VGA to DVI Adapter. <http://sewelldirect.com/gefenvgatodviadapterwoscaling.asp>
This will not slow down the graphics, but the picture may not be as sharp as with a DVI video card port.

  • Power Mac G5 dual 2.0ghz (late june 2004) - trouble upgrading video card

Hi, I'd really appreciate any help. I have a PowerPC G5 Tower, dual 2.0 GHz, DVI/AGP version (June 2004 model) with 8gb ram. I recently got the Apple 30" monitor and wanted to run it along side my 20" apple monitor, so I bought the ATI Radeon 9650 dual dvi video card (ATI-G5-9650 Power Mac G5 ATI Radeon 9650 Supports 30" Display 256MB (DVI/DVI) (8X AGP) Video Card). I pulled out my previous video card from the AGP slot and inserted this one into the same slot. I turned on the machine and plugged in both monitors to the dvi ports and both screens were blank when I booted. I tried plugging in only one of the monitors, but again, just blank. Does this mean the card is bad? Did I put it in the right slot?
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

I'm installed an update, not 100% if it was the correc thing to update, but it was all I could find. I went to the ATI site and downloaded the ATI Displays 4.5.7.dmg and installed that as well as the ATI 10.3.6 SW Update.dmg. This was from the ATI site at: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.HTML
Is there another place or something specific for the 9650 that I need to download?
    thanks

  • DVI & ADC video card upgrade???

What can I get to replace the stock 64mb AGP card (at least I think it is) in my MDD Dual 1.42 machine. I currently run two Acrylic Cinema Displays, a 20" via DVI and a 17" via ADC...
Is ADC going to limit my options? If so, I can use a second ADC-DVI for the 17" monitor.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanx

Okay, so it sounds like I should "dump" the ADC idea.
    Then an I looking for a card with 2-DVI or 1-DVI and 1-VGA ???
I've followed several of your discussions, but still need a little help with the Video Card upgrade education. Flashed cards kind of scare me, but are they okay to use? I don't know if I could tell the difference anyway. Asking a seller on eBay if it is in most cases won't get you anywhere either.
You've talked about the 7800gs card. Any others I could consider? I've read that some cards don't work in a FW800 MDD machine.

I'm having to replace my video card on my g5, the new one I'm getting does not have an ADC connection; I think its just dvi/vga.
Is there any lower cost options other then the $99 apple adapter?

No. It is more than just an adapter. It includes a power supply for the display.

No.  That will work only with Mini DisplayPort displays, not Thunderbolt.  Also that particular model is single-link DVI, so is for the 24" display.
