ADC from vid card to a VGA 2nd display, out of stock?

We have an old quicksilver G4 800 mhz tower that a co-worker wants to have a 2nd display attached to. The card has 2 outputs, a VGA and an ADC. About a year ago, I went to our local Apple Reseller (not an apple store) and bought a ADC to VGA adaptor for 30 bucks (for another machine in use). It was by Dr. Bott. There is nothing on their website now. Dr. Bott service stated that Apple had something to do with the discontinued status? Locked down their technology?
Some site show any ADC to VGA adaptor discontinued.
What is up?
Alternatives? Should I just get a new cheap graphics card? or are there ther alternatives. Yes, this is old technology, and we will get new computers, but we will have this machine a few more years...
Thanks for any help
Mac Pro 2.66 Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Apple did not try to stop others from using ADC. They made it an open standard, but few other manufacturers used it. Formac did make a LCD display with ADC. Most display makers didn't want to make models that would only work with a Mac, even though it would be cheaper (no power supply needed). Other computer makers didn't use it because they would need bigger power supplies (Apple made a CRT with ADC that needed 113 watts), adapters would be needed for most displays, and they would need special graphics cards. Because of lack of demand from other computer makers, no graphics card maker made any ADC cards for non-Apple computers.
Apple dropped AC for several reasons:
Multiple displays were being used more, and there was only one ADC per computer. DVI to ADC adapters are expensive and messy.
They wanted to sell their displays to non-Mac users.
Bigger displays needed more power (30" needs 150 watts)
With their main customer gone, the connector maker dropped the connectors, so adapter makers have no more parts for the adapters. Adapters are now scarce and expensive, but it's not Apple's fault.
There are still a few ADC to VGA adapters for sale:

If the Quicksilver is the earlier (2001) model, such as the dual 800 Mhz, the adapter won't be useful with any of the graphic cards that originally came with it. It will work with 2002 Quicksilvers, such as the single 800MHz.

• Vid card for TV to HD Display yet?????/

Aloha All,
I am wondering where to find a vid card that allows cable hookup to see tv on my 30" HD display. I am not looking for a unit to record TV. I am looking for a card to fit into the pci express slot and be able to do both computer and TV functions on my 30" display and preferably in HD of course.
Ideally one card with a cable input and DVI out, and or one with a switch to go back and forth.
Does anyone know if anyone has make the like and if so where, ($$$$ not an issue), Maybe I should make one my self. What do you think?

• Help! Need a quick answer about motherboard + vid card

Hi everyone,
Okay I am pretty scared right now. I got a new vid card, the MSI n9008gt. I also got a 6pin PCI connector for my power supply to power the card. I have a 450watt power supply. And my motherboard is a GeForce7050M.
I put my card in, I attached the power supply to the card, and then plugged it in and pushed the power button.
I hear my motherboard fan, my HD, and the vid card fan. But no display, and nothing else... I think to myself, hmmm. So I unplug my card and take it out and use the intergrated card, and the fan starts up and my HD starts up, but still nothing happens. The motherboard doesn't even beep... Did I fry my motherboard....? :( This is what I fear the most.
(and no I'm not on that PC right now this is an older one.)

But I'm figuring that I don't even hear the bios beeps, so the motherboard is just fried.

• Dual ADC displays and a vid card w/ no ADC ?

Hi.
I've got a PowerMac G4 with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro vid. card. I bought it when I purchased my 17" Apple display not knowing that the Apple display had its own connector that required me to but a $99 adaptor that also requires a power cord!
Anyway, my old CRT (that acted as my 2nd display on the G4) finally died. I purchased a nice 15" Apple display, but apparently forgot to consider the ADC connection.
I need a cheap, fast solution.
I've got a G4 with the 9800 Radeon which has a DVI and VGA connection.
By the way, does having 128MB DDR of video ram help with rendering time??
Ok, back to the original question.
I also have the original video card that came with the PowerMac G4 1.2mhz Quicksilver. I believe it's an 9000 Radeon. It's got an ADC and VGA connection.
How can I setup a dual display on the G4 with the two Apple displays? Both are ADC and neither card has (2) ADC connections.
I've got two ADC to DVI convertors and I have the VGA to DVI convertor that came with my 17" apple display, but the DVI end doesnt match the DVI end on the 2nd ADC to DVI convertor.
Any suggestions? Is there a dual ADC video card?

Hi
As far as I'm aware, the Radeon 9000 that came as the stock graphics card in certain PowerMacs had an ADC connector and a DVI connector. It also came with a DVI to VGA adapter. If this is the case you should be able to attach one monitor directly to the ADC connector and the other to the DVI connector using the $99 DVI to ADC adapter. You'd be losing the benefit of the Radeon 9800 though.
Unfortunately there aren't any graphics cards with dual ADC connectors, as the card (and AGP slot) would have to provide enough juice to power two monitors. The options seem to be:
1. One AGP card with an ADC connector and DVI connector, which would require one DVI to ADC adapter, such as the Radeon 9000.
2. One AGP card with two DVI connectors, which would require two DVI to ADC adapters, such as the Radeon 9600 retail version. Mines worked perfectly, although there do seem to be problems with it in certain Quicksilvers and Digital Audio G4s.
3. One AGP card with a DVI connector, which would require a DVI to ADC adapter, such as your existing Radeon 9800 and one PCI card with a DVI connector, which would also require a DVI to ADC adapter, such as the Radeon 9200. An AGP card with an ADC connector would also work but seems pointless given you've already got the 9800 and adapter.
Unfortunately I'm not sure there is a really cheap solution. As already mentioned, there are VGA to DVI converter boxes on the market, but they're incredibly expensive and you'd be converting from digital to analogue and back to digital, with some loss of quality.

• SATA & new vid card. Do I need a new PS?

The question(s).
Does a SATA drive need more power? I have an Athlon XP 1500 on a KM4M-V board w/512 ram. the PS is a 300W Silent X bought from Newegg 6 months back.
Does a dual vid card need more power?
The background.
I have been trying to fix a serious to random blue screen prob. It all started at some point while I was doing these upgrades.
1st - Install new 80G Seagate SATA drive. Works fine with the 64 mg.NVidia card that I have had for a year or so.
2nd - My son orders two Asus V9400X (Gforce4 MX4000) dual monitor vid cards (128 mg.). I take one. Everything seems fine with the Viewsonic 17" crt monitor.
3rd - New Neovo 19" LCD - last part.
The BSOD was really bad last week (I formatted & re-loaded the OS five times). Now it is just random. I pulled/re-seated cards, re-pluged plugs - helped but still have occasional blue screen.
Thanks for any help or ideas.

Not really, but an additional device always requires more power, especially during startup. Adding more devices always adds an accumulative power requirement.
Dual RAMDAC's do require a slight bit more power when operating in dual monitor mode, but nothing to speak of really.
Without the data the BSOD is giving, your power supply's make/model/specs (See Suggestions on posting and getting better answers at the top of this page for clarification on info.) it's all going to be guessing from here. My inclination is you are experiencing several problems, perhaps the power supply is now being pushed to it's limitations (see Is your problem caused by your PSU? )
Perhaps it is just a driver or OS issue. You can be running along just fine for a year or two, but adding new hardware and drivers, can push OS registry health over the edge. You may have to use a driver cleaner utility to remove the previous drivers completely before installing the new drivers. See http://www.drivercleaner.net

• MacBook 2nd display (mini-DVI-DVI (D)- VGA)?

I am trying to hook up a second display to my MacBook. The problem is that I don't have a mini-DVI to VGA adapter, but I have a mini-DVI to DVI, and a DVI to VGA adapters. So I connected my Apple mini-DVI to DVI, to my DVI to VGA, and then to my 2nd display (NEC LCD1560NX). The notebook's image flips as i normally connect a second display, it auto-detects the 2nd screen and displays its correct name, but I do not get an image on my second display. It set to the right resolution and frequency.
Any suggestions?

go to system preferences -> display-> and mirror the displays, it should work on the second display, but the cons on the macbook is to work on the first display, the built in card may not support the second one, if thats the case i'm sorry i can't help it. you can also try to get a DVI/VGA splitter and see if that work, it works on standard integrated intel VGA models. good luck!

• ATI vid.card trouble shoot guide

True,
There seem to be some stabilty issues with ATI, all of which can be overcome.
First is the VPU recover option. That option makes it less stable and does nothing beneficial, best turn it off.
Also faste write (bios option), it doesn't enhance performance, only decreases stabalitity.
If it is still unstable, set AGP to 4x. This makes it slighly (less then 1pct. ) slower, but might make it more stable.
Other drivers occasionly might help. For older cards, older drivers are best suitable. E.g. a R9700 runs best on Cat 4.5. Do make sure the driver you use supports the DirectX version that you need !
Last resort is upping the AGP voltage (no more then 0,1v !). If it is still instable, RMA it !
Despite the issues, I still think ATI makes very good vid.cards. My next card wil probably be an ATI again

And I thougt you were my friend
Look here for the performance difference fast write and AGP4x make:
http://www.pctuning.cz/Default.aspx?CatID=75&LayId=2&ArtId=19189&ChapID=4944
These tests have been done with a 9700PRO the difference will probably be more significant with a faster card.
Furthermore, take into account that a 9600 draws from the 5v line, the 9700, 9800 and X800 draw from the 12v line as well.

• Vid card issues I think??

Good day, I'm having some major issues with my card "I think"
When playing MOH Pacific Assault, Battlefield Vietnam, and Doom3 my sys locks up and/or I get major video corruption. I have tried updating all of the drivers forward and backward and no luck . One error that I get says that the Vid card got stuck in a loop. I have gone to the Nvida and EA site and no help. The only thing that I found was that their is a known issue with MOB running with Nforce 3 chips and to uninstall the GART driver "No idea how???" Here is the post on that, some of it doesn't apply (ATI, Punk Buster,
"This combination of hardware has been reported to freeze gameplay, and is due to a combination of these hardware elements. Resolving this issue has become a stalemate between ATI, Nvidia and Evenbalance. Here is some information which may help you address this issue:
Problem does not occur on non-Punkbuster servers.
This problem seems specific to WinXP.
Removal of the Nvidia GART Driver clears this problem up.
Reverting to ATI's 3.9 seems to clear this up for some.
Reducing the AGP aperture size reduces the amount of delay.
Decreasing the PB scan frequency with pb_sleep decreases the frequency of the freezes.
Changing from an ATI to Nvidia card seems to have eliminated problems for many users."
Any idaes???? Thanks..

Hi,
I wouldn't remove the GART driver. I have a NF3/6800 Ultra OC setup and I disabled fastwrites in my system bios to resolve loops and freezes. The combo works wonders now!
Good Luck,
You want to try the easiest solutions first and turning off fast writes would be a good place to start as suggested. If it is not implemented properly it can cause instability.
There are also a few other settings that should be in there you can try messing with such as AGP Aperture, 4X or 8X...etc.
I also would use 3DMark 2001 as a stability test. It pretty much runs with every video card and drivers out there. Using a game might not be a good idea because a lot of games have problems with certain drivers or certain cards. At least if it passed 3DMark you would have some idea its not the drivers, card or even gart.
If it doesn't pass 3DMark then I would start looking at your motherboard drivers (GART). The chance of 3DMark not working with any version of Nvidia drivers is very slim unless they are corrupted.
To uninstall the GART you would go into device manager and right click it and uninstall. Windows will restart and try to install drivers on it's own. You can cancel it by clicking on the icon in the system tray if your quick enough. (WinXP)
Another way to do it, is just updating the drivers by again going into device manager, right clicking and this time picking update drivers.
You should have the drivers you want to use on the computer somewhere like maybe the desktop.
Another thing you can try is reinstaling DirectX, that is one of those easy things that doesn't hurt anything to try. Also make sure your video card is not overheating in the case. Open the case and have a house fan blowing on it while you try 3DMark or playing a game.
One last thing when you look in device manager the GART might not be listed as GART, at least on my NF7-S it is not listed that way. The GART would be anything related to AGP under "System Devices"

• Import from SD card hanging

New laptop (toshiba qosimo w/20gb ram, ssd and hd), new os (windows 8), new version of lightroom (5.2) new bloatware (toshiba), new problems.
I can usually get one import from sd cards to work per boot in lightroom. when lightroom ejects and a new card is put in (I run several cameras per shoot) it shows the pix thumbnails, correctly identifies the new images and then just hangs on import. the import bar jumps to about 2/3 and stops, even running over night does nothing. At this point trying to use the windows explorer browser to access the sd card also hangs explorer. I can click the close "x" on the import status bar and it does eventually close though I must physically eject the card before the "Import Results" error dialog pops up. I can then re-mount the sd card and manually copy the files into thir dated folders, making new ones as needed, and sync the parent folder in lightroom and continue working but that is very tedious.
I've made sure all bloatware is not indexing, importing, or any other bad behavior. I have tried killing of all apps and background bloatware item by item with no success. Rebooting allows me one additional import but hangs on the second sd card.
While it criples lightroom I doubt it's lightroom's fault. Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot? If it matters I'm using the built-in SDHC card reader which is a realtek pcie unit running the "RiconMan.exe" process. I've even tried killing that and letting it restart with no joy.
Thanks in advance,
Mark
UPDATE:
My third paragraph made me think it could be connected to the built-in reader so I searched around and eventually "borrowed" my wife's USB reader. I was able to do 2 imports on it after the 2nd import on the built in reader had failed. Looks like it's a conflict between realtek's reader and lightroom. I can copy files from several sd cards in explorer so this problem only seems to afflict lightroom.

• Can I use Restore From Memory Card to clone E72

Hi
I have two E72s, both have the exact same firmware 091.004. Can I use the "Back Up phone Memory" feature to transfer everything (apps + settings + data) from one E72 to another? I just want to switch to another E72 this way:
1. On the 1st E72, back up phone memory using File Manager.
2. Move the SIM card and memory card from the 1st E72 to the 2nd one.
3. On the 2nd E72, restore phone memory from the backup on the memory card using File Manager.
Will it allow me to clone everything (like an image) to another E72? Is it officially supported?
I tried once, some things were missing such as Opera Mini not found, Nokia Evolve theme not enabled, profile settings not applied etc.
Is there a way to clone everything to another E72?
Thanks heaps.

• Vid Card Recommendations

I'm ready to purchase a vid card.
Thanks for your help.

TDs/ TDRs/ VTDs/ VTDRs/ are the model of the card representing different make that they are for... TDs are the standard version without Video Decoder.
Since you said that framerates isn't a concern, the FX5200 Ultra for $115 USD isn't a bad choice, but like what I said, you can save around $20 USD for the normal non-Ultras, but I'm not indicating that the ultra isn't a good choice.
Anyway, the $$$ comes out from your pocket and I'm just giving a feedback on price vs performance for the cards.
P.S> The Ultras are still capable of coping games with normal fps, if you would want to start gaming in the future, the Ultra will be good. But I did not recommend it as you said that you aren't concern about fps...

• Wanting sound quality closer to HD caliber. Using gigaworks. Just bought a vid card with hdmi audio

I just got a GTX 560 TI, and my dilemma arose after installing this card and then trying out the HDMI audio, and being amazed at the sound quality I am NOT getting by simply using my sound card. Here are some of my specs which are relevant. I have the said video card, a Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer, a Samsung 40" LCD I use as a monitor, and an Asus P5N motherboard. Also, I am using Creative Gigaworks 7.1 750s speakers. I'm running a mini-hdmi to hdmi cable from my card to TV. Basically I am hearing sound quality from my TV that is absolutely superior to anything that has come out of my speakers and am now wanting to achieve better sound quality for my speakers, but how? Should I get a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty? New speakers is definitely not what I am looking for right now, and besides that, they are a very powerful set of 7.1's that you just can't find anymore. I know there are HDMI sound cards, but I doubt I would be able to plug my speakers into those. Is there better software I can download to go along with my sound card? I've updated PowerDVD on the off-chance that it would help (even though I knew it wouldn't). I'm really not sure how much help getting a fatal1ty sound card would be. Any suggestions on how to get my PC speakers running up to or NEAR to HD quality?

$200 at all? So no new sound card? Or 200 for receiver only? So following setups are possible using a receiver:
- Use SB, Receiver: so you connect from SB analog to Receiver and from their analog to Speakers, use HDMI/DVI for video seperately. IMHO Bad as it uses much analog points and would have bad sound quality. As long as you don't buy a quality SB, real good analog cables, good receiver. And so we speek over 1000$
- Use GPU and Receiver directly via HDMI. Then Analog to Speakers and HDMI/DVI to TV. No real extra SB needed, but be aware that if you got an nvidia card it may be you need to connect the sound via SPDIF - check: . But as SPDIF only provides 1,5Mbit/s (6Mbit/s in rare cases) and formats like Dolby True HD/Digital Plus, DTS HD Master need 18-25 Mbit/s you won't get highest quality possible as software downsamples quality. But i think anyway these formats are not supported by GPU, thats why 3rd solution exists
- As written above use GPU to SB via HDMI, SB to Receiver via HDMI, Receiver to Speakers via Analog. Most expensive as you need new SB and Receiver but thats the way they want high end sound being provided.
Keep in mind that on 2nd and 3rd solution the receiver must have HDMI I/O! Also check HDMI Version! 1.3/1.4? 7.1 is not nessacary (as your speakers can do 5.1 to 7.1 upmix ) but you buy a receiver normally just once and so i would recommend to get that too. If you want a good one LipSync, Deep Color, x.v.Color should be onboard too.
So on the second part - why do you think you have to buy new cables and sub? And did i get you right - you want to directly connect the speakers with receiver? No, you have to connect to a sub. Well, if you want the receiver to do the upmix you need the seperate available 4x Stereo or RCA cables as i don't think an receiver will provide 7.1 via the supplied 4x to 3x 7.1 Audio cable.

• G41M-P34 mobo Vid Card compatability

My VESA 9500 1G just fried ,k so time to Upgrade
Will the G41M-P34 take any Vid card? IE - PCI = yes ,, PCI-2 =??? ,, PCI-3 = ???
I am Extremely happy with the G41M-p43 and have been running it Since 2005 /6
Maybe Time to Upgrade MoBo to an i7 and pass this one off to the Kid
Any recommends for a 2gig Vid card for the G41M-P34
Recommends for a New i7 + moBo and 3gig or 4g Vid card

G41M-P34 is a totally outdated board using PCI-E Gen 1. As all Gen2 and above AMD cards are causing compatibility issues with old Gen 1 boards you can already forget about any Radeon card. With Nvidia cards chances are better but none the less It might still not work if the outdated bios refuses to work with a current generation vga. Compatibility issues when trying to combine ancient hardware with latest stuff are waiting to happen. To be pretty safe get any used GTX660(ti)/670/680 to upgrade the current machine. Also be aware that the size of the vram does not say anything about the performance of the card.
For a new machine if wanting an i7 and not considering oc get i7-4790 else get i7-4790K.
Good boards would be Z97 GAMING 7, Z97-GD65 GAMING or Z97 MPOWER. Everything below those doesn't offer a backup bios and everything above doesn't really add more useful features.
For a vga R9 280(x) GAMING are very cheap at the moment and can be a good deal, same goes for GeForce GTX 780 GAMING cards. 780 is the by far faster of course. The very latest generation would be the GTX 970.

Easy. Manually update the drivers.
Go:
My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager > VGA card > Right click > Properties > Driver tab > Update driver find the folder with the ForceWare driver > Click OK. Your done.
You'll have to extract the drivers out of the .exe that they come in firstly mind.
I want to keep my latest downloaded nvidia drivers and add official MSI OC tweaking in windows xp display panel, so ... you asked me to find the folder with the ForceWare driver : last (from nvidia) or previous (from MSI's CD driver) ?
And how can I extact the drivers out of the .exe without launching install procedure ?
Thanks ...
