Adc to dvi adapter

I just bought a new g-5 and my 20 inch flat screen has 10 pins the new mac takes 8 pins does anyone no if radio shack or frys carrys this connector or do I need to order this online or do mac stores carry this item!
thanks

I don't understand why they would change there connections on there cinema displays and their G5's.
Several reason:
ADC was offered as an open standard, but practically nobody else used it. Formac did make a LCD with ADC, but I think that was it. Computer makes did not want to add costs just to use Apple displays at a time when Apple displays were very expensive, and rarely used on non-Apple computers. Because no other computer makers offered ADC, display makers did not want to make displays that would only work on a small percentage of computers.
Multiple displays were becoming more common, but computers only had enough power for one ADC.
New, bigger, displays needed more power than ADC provided.

  • Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter with a VGA monitor?

    Hey everybody,
I have a quick question. I work on computers fr friends and family as a hobby. I have an ADC monitor and need ot be able to hook up computers with a VGA port on them to it. Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter along with an Apple DVI to VGA adapter to successfully connect VGA computers to my ADC display? I was assuming this would work and ordered both adapters but now I have made myself nervous about weather or not this will actually work. Has anybody out there successfully done this? Thanks for your help in advance everybody.

You can't run an ADC display with a VGA computer without a converter. Adapters won't do it.
a VGA to ADC converter will drive the ADC display directly

If you have the Apple DVI to ADC adapter
    <http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=18 72D402&nplm=M8661LL/B>
you could use it with a VGA to DVI converter
    <http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1310>
It might be cheaper to get DVI graphics boards for the computers and use the Apple DVI to ADC adapter.

Your title says "Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter with a VGA monitor?". If you want to connect a VGA monitor to a computer's ADC port you need the ADC to VGA adapter
<http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1299> You can't use an ADC to DVI adapter followed by a DVI to VGA adapter, because the ADC to DVI adapter doesn't pass the analog video signals needed for VGA.

  • Apple ADC to DVI Adapter -- Power Brick gets HOT

    Hello all,
I just purchased an Apple ADC to DVI adapter to connect my 23" Cinema Display to my new Mac Pro. It works perfectly, but I've noticed that the white, square power brick is generating quite a bit of heat. It feels sort of OK (within tolerance) at the edges but toward the middle it's noticeably hot. Not hot enough to burn my hands, or cook an egg, but definitely toasty warm. Is this normal? Or does it sound like I have a defective one?
    Alan

If by "on" you mean the adapter is connected to your display and plugged in to an AC outlet, and you have an image on your display coming from your computer, then it's not dead.

  • No video on Mac Pro 266 + 20" Apple Cinema Display + ADC to DVI Adapter

When I boot my Mac Pro, I don't get a video signal. I currently have a 20" Apple Cinema Display (clear case) connected via an ADC to DVI adapter. I have connected the monitor/adapter on a Powerbook G4 wihout any issues, which rules out the monitor. I've tried everything: resetting PRAM/NVRAM, motherboard reset button, unplugging everything...nothing works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you guys using the ADC to DVI adapter or the DVI to ADC adapter?
I have a clear 23" cinema display and I was thinking of getting a new Mac Pro... From what I can tell, you need the DVI to ADC adapter that sells for $100+. Is that correct?

  • ADC to DVI adapter for 30" compatability

My G5 has the Radeon 9600 Pro with a DVI and a ADC output. Can this card drive an Apple 30" display if I had a ADC to DVI dongle cable to get two DVI outputs? Does such a thing exsist?
    G5 dual 1.8GHZ (4 RAM slot model)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

OK, an update. The ATI RADEON 9800 Pro for Mac definitely does not do the trick. Ordered from Amazon, installed and no improvement in resolution. Out with the new and in with the old. The saga continues. No one and I mean NO ONE seems to be able to give a definitive answer to what card(s) will go into a G5 Dual to power a 30" monitor at full resolution. So far my Mac guru has been wrong twice. Sure you can "get" something like the X800 in oh, say 45 days. shannon

  • ADC to DVI adapter how ???

I have PowerMac Pro with Intel chips and ATI Radeon X1900 video graphics card and Apple Cinema Display but dont know how to connected them, Do you know how to convert the Apple ADC display output to DVI inexpensively? I see Apple wants $150 for theirs. Are there other vendors of this conversion? Where is a good place to buy it? I want to use an ADC display on my ATI Radeon X1900 XT it's a DVI video card output, please help
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Apple stopped making and selling this adapter last year. They were $99 from Apple, but now they are trading on the secondary market at inflated prices. I don't believe anyone makes an alternative. Dr. Bott used to make the DVIator, but I don't know if that's available anymore, either.

  • ADC to DVI and DVI to VGA on my G5

I have a G5 with an ATI 9600 video card that has both DVI and ADC outputs.  I cannot find am ADC to VGA adapter, but I was wondering if I could use and ADC to DVI adapter and then connect that to a DVI to VGA adapter and use a 2nd VGA monitor on my Mac.  Has anhyone tried this?
    Thanks!

ADC to DVI-D adapters pass digital, not analog. There is no way for DVI to VGA to receive analog from the ADC port.

  • DVI to ADC Adapter + Mini DVI to DVI Adapter = usb ports don't work?

I have a 23" Cinema with the ADC plug. I've been using it with the DVI to ADC adapter for many years, though I did not use any of the monitor's usb ports during this time. I recently bought a new Macbook, so now I have am combining a Mini DVI to DVI adapter with the DVI to ADC adapter. The display works fine, but now I find the usb ports on the monitor do not work. I've checked all the pins involved and they are all straight and look normal.
Does this have anything to do with the double adapter situation, or could it just be that the monitor's usb ports are aging and haven't been used in a long time? Or is it possible these ports do not support usb 2.0 devices?

    Thank you Malcolm.
It's true I cannot adjust the display's brightness using the buttons on the monitor. But I can put the Macbook to sleep, both when the adapter's usb cable is plugged in and when it's not.
So if the usb circuitry has gone bad, will this cause me any other problems, or can I just ignore it? Right now I am trying to choose an external hard drive to buy, so I'm taking stock of my available ports. I don't think I'd put a big hard drive on a usb 1.1 port anyways.

  • Does DVI-to-HDMI work with my Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter?

    Hi,
I have a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and was wondering if I get a DVI-to-HDMI, will I be able to get HDMI output?
If yes, should I get any specific DVI-to-HDMI adapter?
If yes, will it have sound with it?
    Thanks.

So which does the community prefer between Dr Bott DVIator and the Apple DVI to ADC?  I have the Apple but it is not working, as it is shutting the monitor down without even starting it (soft shut-down).   Is this a bad adapter or the result of "stacking" adapters?  I have read that it is more common to a bad adapter result.
    Thanks.

Can I use the Belkin ADC to DVI Connector Cable to
connect one of the DVI displays to the ADC output on
    the G5?
    Yes.
If so, am I right in assuming that I still use the
Cinema Display power connector in addition to using
    this adaptor cable?
Yes. The adapter just provides the digital video signals. You still need to plug in the power, USB, and FireWire (if needed) cables from the display
All the documentation seems to be restricted to G4s,
When the adapter came out the only ADC computers were G4s. They haven't updated the documentation, but it will work on a G5.

  • ADC to DVI connector

    Hi,
Apologies if this is frequently asked/answered, but I find it difficult to find a completely straight answer anywhere.
I have an older Power Mac G5 with an AGP 8X Pro graphics card (with one ADC and one DVI connector).
I have just bought 2 new Apple 20" DVI Cinema Displays.
Can I use the Belkin ADC to DVI Connector Cable to connect one of the DVI displays to the ADC output on the G5?
If so, am I right in assuming that I still use the Cinema Display power connector in addition to using this adaptor cable?
All the documentation seems to be restricted to G4s, and for some reason the cable doesn't seem to be carried by the online Apple Store here in the UK.
    Thanks,

  • Fromac ADC to DVI

    hi
i bought a formac ADC to DVI adaptor the other day so I can make use of my two displays.
I but my spare display has a VGA input so i bought a dvi to vga adaptor and connected this to the ADC to DVI one and thought this would be perfect
    But.........
everything on my monitor is green i can see the desktop and everything else but its a different shads of green,
I kno the DVI to VGA adaptor is in perfect working order and I kno my LCD is so Im guessing the ADC to DVI adaptor is faulty
or am I missing something and I shouldn't be using the DVI to VGA adaptor on the end of the ADC one and this is what is causing the problem??
    thanks
    ow

I shouldn't be using the DVI to VGA adaptor on the end of the ADC one and this is what is causing the problem??
Yes, that's most likely the problem.
Dr. Bott made an ADC to VGA adapter. Very rare.

needs power to drive the monitor and USB

    Go here: http://www.dviator.com/us/DVIator.html
I am using the Dr BOTT DVIator to run an old school 17" Apple Cinema Display on my brand new 2010 Mac Mini through the HDMI port with the included HDMI to DVI adapter that was included with the Mac Mini. Works great functions perfectly. I purchased the DVIator (Pronounced DEE-VEE-ATOR)a few years ago when I sold my G5 tower with ADC and purchased a 2006 MacPro which has an nVidia Geforce 7300 GT the card is DVI. Worked on my Mac Pro too. Only thing is I am not sure if the Australian Power Grid is 220-240V, but you can check out the site and email them. The sight has links for Dutch, German, Swedish ect.. might get lucky.
