ADC Trouble

Hi all. I seem to be having some trouble with the ADC connector on my Power Mac G5. I have the Dual 2.0 GHz PowerPC Processors, 2 Gb memory, and a ATI Radeon 9600 XT video card. I have a ADC and a DVI port on it. Is there a ADC to DVI adaptor that WILL WORK? Many thanks!!!

Hi-
You want to connect a DVI monitor to the ADC port?
This adapter works fine:

  • DVI to ADC adapter forcing powerbook to shut down on connection

    Hi there,
I have been using my powerbook 1.25GHz for about 8 months with my DVI to ADC adapter to connect to my 22" cinema display with no troubles whatsoever. Yesterday evening when I came home as soon as connected the adapter to my powerbook- it shut down my powerbook within a couple of seconds. Not only that I was blasted with a 3-5 second low tone from my powerbook as it attempted to restart. At the same time the sleep light (one that purrs softly in sleep mode on the powerbook) flashed in quick succession for the length of time that my powerbook made the the long beep noise.
Following this the computer then makes the usual start up noise but nothing happens on either my powerbook display or the 22" display. I am then required to take out the adapter connection from my powerbook and my computer restarts normally after holding down the start button again.
I have tried a few times now to connect the adapter with the same problem. Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what the sound being emitted is all about and the disco light display from my powerbook?
Would be grateful for some hints... Thanks!
    1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The exact same things (low tone, furiously flashing sleep light) has happened to me on several occasions, and it happened again today. I just googled up the symptoms and this is where I landed. The only thing I can correlate among our experiences is that the DVI connection on the powerbook is involved (the problem may or may not have anything to do with the ADC adapter).
For my problem, it's usually occurred after I've either just connected or disconnected a second display using an Apple dvi-->adc powered adapter or a small unpowered dongle (dvi -->vga) for an lcd projector. The restart after either one fails can take quite awhile.
Twice in the past six months, I've been at the "two minute warning" before a presentation, and the book has crapped out just as I connect it to the projector and then it's gone into the psycho light and sound mode you described. Today's failure occurred after unhooking from the powered Apple DVI-->ADC adapter at my desk to go down the hall for a meeting. The computer went into blue screen and stayed there after it was disconnected from the Studio Display and DVI-->ADC adapter. Attempting to hard reset/powerdown by holding down the power button initiated the tone/light flashing.
These few cases may seem pretty isolated, but perhaps a pattern will emerge if people keep adding their experiences.

  • Running two displays from one DVI port...time to put my ADC down

    Hi Guys,
I have a G5 dual with a GeForce FX 5200 which has 1 each of DVI+ADC ports. Until recently the 17" Apple display has been my only monitor. As I have a recording/mix studio I need to move the G5 base unit far away from any recording as it makes quite a lot of noise. I have been unable to do this as I have been having trouble finding either a Dr Bott or Griffin ADC extension. I have been searching off and on for over a year with no success.
Recently I purchased a cheap reconditioned NEC monitor which I am running from the DVI port and am thinking perhaps now is the time to get rid of my apple display due to the ADC connection troubles.
Is it possible to run two monitors from the one DVI port? I need to run a mirrored image so that I have one monitor to my side so that I can do close editing work and then one further away behind my analogue mixing desk, they need to show exactly the same thing.
Will splitting the DVI port degrade signal or is there a way around this. I also want to get some long cables 6m+ so that I can place the base unit outside of the control room, will this be a problem?
I would really appreciate some help on this matter.
    Thanks,
    Iwan

  • Error while configuring ADC (Additional Domain Controller)

    Hello Experts,
I am configuring ADC (Additional Domain controller) in a member server which is in workgroup. while configuring ADC on that server, I got a window saying "additional information for this domain controller", where there were three options, i.e.
DNS server, Global Catalog, RODC (Read only Domain controller) and bydefault first two options(DNS & Global Catalog) were checked. I kept that setting and clicked on next. Now this is showing I need to give a static IP to my adapter, but I have already
given a static IP. when I unchecked the DNS button from that window it was not giving such error. Now my question is if I continue without checking the DNS, will it give me trouble in future. Please suggest. I am using MS2008 R2.
    Swaprakash..

Ensure that you don't have another NIC in your server that is set to obtain IP address from DHCP. However, even if you proceed with this warning, you will probably not have any errors later, as long as you're sure that you have static IP assigned to your
    internal NIC.
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you. Thank you! Damir

  • Pink Screen with 17" ADC and DVI converter

This issue could be with the Apple ADC to DVI convertor box or cable, but I can't confirm if it is that or my monitor. I am using a 17" clear ACD with a mac mini, and I started to get intermittant bright pink screens, which has progressed into pink all the time, and a horizontally squashed screen that shows the desktop twice (one on top of the other, both squashed).
I am pretty sure that the cable coming out of the convertor box is the culprit, since I was able to get it working normally by jiggling the cable, and it started acting up when I was plugging and unplugging some USB devices. Now it won't work properly at all, and I do not have an old computer to plug the monitor in directly to check with. I did plug the monitor and convertor into a G5 PowerMac, and had the same result. When I plugged in a newer 20" Apple aluminum display into the Mini, it worked fine.
The trouble is that all of the cables on the monitor and convertors are built in and not easily replaced.
    Any suggestions?

I bought a new ADC/DVI converter ($99) and that fixed it. I am almost positive it was only the cable.
My question is: why can't Apple PLEASE make these convertor boxes AND their monitors with removable/replaceable cables?
I ended up spending 10 times what I should have to fix the issue. it should have never broken in the first place, since it rarely even ever got touched, and had never been disconnected.
Just for grins, after I bought the new converter, I tried to open the old one to see if I could remove the cable. I could not even get the box open without destroying it.
My 20" Cinema Display has a dead bug inside it, and it is also impossible to open up without destroying it, just to clean it.
I just have to express my displeasure at Apple making their products non-servicable. What a waste.

  • Connecting Superlogics ADC-1 I/O Module with third-party VI

I'm having trouble using the LabView driver for the ADC-1. It gives me the error "Resource not found" when I run the VI "ADC-1 Main.vi".

    Hi,
It sounds like you are giving the driver the wrong VISA resource string. Make sure that the string is correct and try again. You should be able to check this in MAX.
    Hope this helps out!

  • ADC displays, 10.4.11 and MDD

I've been running a dual 1.25 PowerMac G4 with a 23" Cinema display (ADC) for about 8 years now without a single hint of trouble. No room for the 23" ADC monitor on my desk anymore (making room for 30" w/MacPro), so I picked up a 17" ADC Studio display and wall-mounted it (actually, I have two of these).
Trouble is, my MDD G4 refuses to turn on with either 17" ADC Studio display connected. (LED only blinks once, machine never goes on.) The 23" Cinema works perfectly (as always) and a 15" ADC Studio display works, too. Both 17" ADC Studio displays work fine connected to an old G4 Cube, but both prevent my MDD from starting up. I always thought any Apple ADC display would work on the G4 MDD - no? What makes the 17" Studio displays different? Video card is the OEM ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (1 ADC, 1 DVI).
What am I missing? All four displays work, only the combination of MDD and 17" Studio display fails....?

Tried to startup from a great old SCSI drive running OS9, Monitors CDEV set to proper resolution, etc.
Computer's power button LED only lights when pressed, nothing else happens.
It's a hardware issue, simultaneous with two identical 17" ADC Studio Displays? I have an ADC to DVI converter, but what's the point of trying that? So..... why do they both work perfectly when plugged into a (10.3) G4 Cube?! What's the diff between G4 MDD (Radeon 9000 Pro) and G4 Cube's AGP cards (32MB VRAM 1280x1024 ATI RV200? - upgrade from OEM card)....?

  • Early (Jan.04) Cinema 20" display with ADC:

Need to replace video card in G5 (Jan 04). Need video card with ADC. Any suggestions as to where to purchase this. Tried DV Warehouse already. To expensive for refurbished card. Can I get around the ADC on new video card.

The Mac Pro features one DVI-I, to which you can attach your DVI-display-with-powerbrick-in-cable, and two Mini DisplayPort.
ATI has moved forward smartly into Mini DisplayPort, nearly shortchanging users of what they call "legacy" Interfaces such as DVI, HDMI, and VGA. In order to run Three legacy Interfaces, ACTIVE (read Powered) adapters are REQUIRED.
What appears to be happening is that "the simulation of DVI" provided is a little short on power. If you don't run the ACTIVE adapters that include an additional USB for still more power, you can't run three.
Some users have reported that passive adapters used for ANY DVI displays are having sporadic trouble. The low-cost ACTIVE Adapters contain signal Drivers that use an internal power lead. The pricey Dual-Link adapters need two sets of Driver circuits, and go to an external USB cord to pick up still more power to run them.
Executive summary: There may be sporadic problems with signal levels for certain displays. If an adapter is needed, an ACTIVE DVI adapter is recommended.
If running three DVI displays, ACTIVE Adapters that also include an extra USB cord are REQUIRED.

  • Trouble with nVidia output?

I am having trouble getting my desktop to show up through the nVidia GeForce FX5200. This is the card that came with the 2g g5. Slot one - VGA- has 20 inch cinema display. • Need ADC extension cable

I can't believe I am having so much trouble finding an extension cable!!! I have a 20" cinema display (2004) with permanently attached ADC cable and a G5 (2004) with an ADC input. It works great but I must move the CPU further from the monitor and the cord will not reach. I have found 2 cables; one from Dr. Bott and one from Griffin that would do the job but they are all discontinued! I've searched the web, my local reseller, and nobody has it. They must have made thousands of these things but the only place they seem to have them is Australia. I can't even find one on Ebay. Am I doomed to a life where my monitor must always be 4 feet from the CPU? What else can I do? Could I use ADC to DVI cables and adapters to somehow jury rig it? Apple- how can you invent and then abandon a connection system and leave thousands of people flapping in the breeze??? Thanks.

  • ADCS - ROOT CA domain member ?

    Hello,
I have installed a RootCA(Standalone) and SubCA(Enterprise) in my company and all its working well.
But, I just see that is not recommended to have ROOTCA as domain member. How can I do to fix that ?
(Is it a real problem ?)

First of all, it is kind of unfortunate that you went through this exercise
as it really wasn't necessary. Given the fact that you'd initially
installed your root as a Standalone root, you could have simply followed
one of the migration guides whereby you simply back up all of the AD CS
related stuff (database, logs, private key, registry templates published at
the CA), remove the AD CS role, remove the computer from the domain,
reinstall and configure the role using the same certificate and private,
restore the database and everything else.
But I was unable to do step 5 : part 3 and 4 and the command line *ldifde -r "cn=<var>CACommonName</var>"*(off course  I put my CACommonName and my AD configuration).
We can't help you with this unless you're more specific. What was the exact
command line you used? What error or errors were reported when you ran the
    commands?
And I have not done step 9, I was scared. Can "certutil -dcinfo deleteBad"cause trouble ? Do I need to do it on all my DC ?
No, it won't cause trouble and needs to be done. If you don't do this you
will have trouble as your DCs won't get certificates from your new PKI as
long as their existing certificates are still time valid. You do not need
to run it on all your DCs, in fact, it doesn't need to be run on a DC at
all, it just needs to be run on a domain joined computer.

  • Quickstart install of Remedy app from ADC - problems

I am having trouble with installing the Remedy application from the ADC.
First off I used the "Quick Start Installation Guide for the Enterprise Web Suite 5.0.2 for Tomcat on Windows" to install the Portal Server, Collaboration Server, etc to one machine that was very clean. In fact is it actually a VMWare virtual machine. All of that went fine and the tests in the Quick Start install guide all worked.
I then used the "Quick Start Single Machine Installation Guide for the Remedy Therapeutics Application" to install Remedy to this machine. The first step is to run installadc.bat. I had to modify it slightly because the service names listed were incorrect. When I ran it everything was fine until the call to deployToPortal.bat which is near the end. That failed. I made a bat file out of just that portion and tried to run it again and it failed with the same error. Of course no AndromedaNav class or jar file is anywhere to be found.
I went on and the rest (steps 2,3) of the Remedy install except that I didn't import any projects into Eclipse nor did I open any projects in Visual Studio. Then I rebooted. PTSpy is set to start up and came up with some warnings and errors. It has a fatal error because it can't find the AndromedaNav class or jar file (it doesn't exist because deployToPortal.bat failed) but it also seems like perhaps my CLASSPATH variable is not set right. I cannot get the portal login to even come up now.
Anyone who has been down this path and may be able to help me? I have copies of the installadc.bat and the run_deployToPortal.bat that I created to retry deployToPortal.bat, as well as the output that went to the DOS window when run_deployToPortal.bat is run. I also have a copy of the PTSpy log file.

What is the error when you run deployToPortal.bat? AndromedaNav.jar is built and deployed to the portal by this step (the jar file is put into the portal war file so there is no classpath to update).
To get your portal running edit CustomActivitySpaces.xml (ptportal\5.0\settings\config) and remove the line . The portal will fail to load if items in here are not present. Add this back once the AndromedaNav.jar is built and deployed.

  • Serial ADC Read

Greetings. I am endevouring to read from an Analog Devices serial ADC (AD7872) using LabView and a PCI 6534 card.
Data out of the ADC is valid on the falling edge of the SCLK output of the ADC. What I would like to do is trigger a single read of SDATA on the falling edge of SCLK. Unfortunately, I get an error stating something to the effect that the start trigger type is not supported due to requested timing type. I am having trouble finding examples that are similar to what I am trying to do, so any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hello Awar99,
From my understanding you are using LabVIEW, PCI 6534 to do a single digital read with a start trigger.  I am assuming that you are using DAQmx.
According to the page 3 of the 6534 Specifications guide, your device does support start triggers.  I checked the device routes in MAX (Measurement and Automation Explorer) and the only signals you can use as a start trigger on your device are RTSI 1 - RTSI 6.  You can find the device routes in MAX.  Open MAX and select "My System">>"Devices and Interfaces">>"NI-DAQmx Devices">>NI PCI-6534.  Next select the "Device Routes" tab.
A good DAQmx shipping example to start from is called Read Dig Chan-Int Clk-Dig Ref.vi.  You can find it in the DAQmx example finder.  In LabVIEW go to Help and select "Find Examples".  In the browse tab choose "Hardware Input and Output">>"DAQmx">>Digital Measurements>>Read Dig Chan-Int Clk-Dig Ref.vi.  You can modify this VI to do exactly what you want.  For example, you can change the reference trigger to be a start digital edge trigger.
If this was not helpful then please answer the following questions and post your code.
What is the error code/# and message you receive?
What version of LabVIEW are you using?
What version of DAQmx are you using?

  • [SOLVED] Trouble blacklisting on-board audio device

I'm aware that this topic has been well documented.  Unfortunately I'm still having trouble so hopefully someone can give me a hand.
I'm trying to completely blacklist the on-board sound card in my PC as I have a dedicated sound card for digital audio that works great.  The problem I'm encountering is that the system detects two audio devices and sometimes loads them in a different order.  This causes problems for most of the applications I use.
So far I have blacklisted the pcspkr module in /etc/rc.conf.
    MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
    #MOD_BLACKLIST=() #deprecated
    MODULES=(fuse !pcspkr !floppy)
Before I blacklisted pcspkr, my optical S/PDIF would not work at all.  It works great now but ALSA still detects two audio devices.  For example, in VLC audio settings under "device" my options are (default, HDANVidia:ALC1200 Analog (hw:0,0), HDANVidia...(hw:0,1), ...(hw:0,2), C-Media CMI8762: C-Media PCI DAC-ADC (hw:1,0), ...(hw:1,2).  Sometimes C-Media is hw:0 and sometimes it is hw:1.  I would like to remove Nvidia HD audio completely.
I will include some information that I think is pertinent although I'm not sure how to use it.

Can I test which modules I want to blacklist by using modprobe -r, or is that a permanent change?
    EDIT:
I added !snd_hda_intel to MODULES in /etc/rc.conf.  This fixed the problem.
    Thanks.

  • Mini-Dvi-to-Video trouble

I just bought a mini-dvi-to-video adapter so I could use my TV as a display. More specifically, so I could use my VCR to record what's on my Mac's display. I also bought a headphone-to-composite cable adapter. I'm using a double-headed (is that one male or female? It's male, isn't it?) composite cable from the video adapter to the VCR. The problem is, it doesn't show up. The sound plays (and records) fine, but the video neither shows up on the TV screen nor records onto the tape. What's the problem? Both adapters are Dynex, my computer's a Late 2006 iMac (I think), the cable is WireLogic, and both the VCR and TV are Sony. Please help, thanks.

So if you eliminate the double headed splitter and plug straight into the TV, does the video still not show up?
FYI, there have been reports in the past of trouble with the Dynex video adapter. You may need to purchase the Apple OEM one. The Dynex may lack having a ROM inside of it with a proper EDID in the ROM. This is crucial to the Mac.
