Add a 2 channel track to video file

I have a WD TV Lube Hub media center hooked up to my TV/surround system in the living room, and it's loaded with movies, all in mkv container, DTS or DD 5.1 sound.
I've been using iVI Pro/iFlicks/Road Movie to convert them for iPad, using pass-through video conversion settings so they just convert the audio to AAC 2 channel and leave the video as-is, and re-container it. Very quick, and works a treat.
Problem is, it means I end up with 2 copies of the same movie on the drive (1 with a DTS/DD 5.1 audio track, 1 with a 2 channel AAC audio track).
Is there any of simply inserting the 2 channel AAC track into the existing movie file so it'll play on iPad?
I don't want to simply use the AAC 2 channel version of the movie for everything and delete the other one, because if I decide to watch the movie on the TV in the living room I then won't have DTS/DD 5.1 surround sound.

I agree with Karsten.
What I would do in this case would be to create the first movie in iMovie. Then use FILE/DUPLICATE to create a duplicate of the project. I would then add the second audio track to this duplicate.
You could either mute the original audio track so you just hear the commentary, or you could use the ducking feature so that you can hear the original track at a softer volume while hearing the commentary track at full volume.
You would then need to share both projects to iTunes. You would have two distinct movies on your TV.

Disappearing Sound Track on Video Files Downloaded on CS4

Dear friends on the forum;
I have a Sony PD 150 camcorder. I took several videos on it which I subsequently downloaded to my PC (using Windows XP, Home Edition). I recall trying to increase the sound volumne on a couple of them, without a lot of success. Anyway, when I went to check these files today I found that the sound track was non-existent!
Can anyone shed light as to why this happened, how I can prevent it happening in future and if I can somehow retrieve the missing sound track?

I tried making the media off-line then re-linking it to the video file on my hard drive but no luck, Hunt. My audio is indeed flatlline; no sound both in the source and on the timeline. Is there any hope, do you think or should I just chalk this one up to experience and be careful not to do any copy/pasting. I consider this a serious flaw in Adobe.

You should have gotten the Link Media dialog to fix your Audio.
Now, Copy/Paste has been known to "loose" the Audio. It does not always happen, and sometimes it seems to work for a bit, and then the Audio goes flatline. Re-Linking the Media usually works fine.
Is your Audio "flatline?" When you Dbl-click on it, does it open in the Source Monitor with a Waveform? Does it play OK in the Source Monitor and not the Timeline, or both?

How to add record voice over for a video file

I have a video file (wmv) already prepared, and all I would like to now do is record a voice over for this file using Soundbooth CS4. My hunch is that I need to import the video into a multi-track file, and then I expect I'll export the multitrack file back to the WMV when I'm done. The problem is that when I hit the record button, I'm expecting to see the video playing but I don't.
Is there a way to add a voice-over / narration to an exisiting video file (in this case a video file without an audio track at all)

When you are recording, you are creating a new audio track and not playing the video, so you won't see it advance.
Best bet is to open the video in WMP, and record your audio in SB while it plays, to get the timing right, then open the video in SB and past the recording into it.
I'm not sure, but I believe the reason you can't play the vid and record at the same time is in case someone is recording new audio for a clip that has audio in it already, the old audio would play at the same time the recording is taking place and would screw it all up, so it either records one or plays the other, but not both at once.

Premiere not showing all audio tracks in video file?

The short version of my issue is that I am not seeing all audio tracks in my imported AVI video. I know they are there, but only one track is showing.
Longer version:
I have an application called Action! that is used for recording games. There is a setting on this application that allows you to record your microphone as a separate audio track. I made a 15 minute video using this. If i play this video in Action!'s media player, i can switch between my game track and my microphone track. If I play the video file in Windows Media Player, it plays both tracks. When I import this video file into Premiere (or Soundbooth) it only shows the Game track and not the microphone track. I cannot find a way to get to the microphone track. It just seems like it doesnt exist. Any thoughts?

.VOB Editing S/w to add jpeg images to the .vob video file and run in a loop

I have 2 .vob files with me which i need to run in a loop seperately on the plazma screens. In addition to it, in one of the video (.vob) files I have to add some jpeg pictures at the end and make the video looping. I have tried a lot but could not find any relevant software to do so Any ideas??? I am kind of new to this video editing thing... i tried to convert it into avi or mpeg formats but in that case when i call it in other program like flash the dimension and resolution on full screen mode gets distorted.
Please let me know how can I edit this .vob file and integrate images to it and make it rum in a loop.

How to normalize the audio channel of a video file?

I have 100 quicktime movies.
All I want to do is to normalise the audio in them.
I understood that in the Volume correction I need to select - Equalize Volume Levels.
Is that it?

Also, How can I save the audio File into the quicktime without rendering the video again.
I don't want the video to be encoded again because the quality is really bad for some reason.
Even If I choose Animation codec which suppose to be good.
Isn't there a way of saving the new audio in the movie without encoding it all again?

Export multiple audio channel in same video file in premier pro

OK I have tried a lot and searched the net a lot a lot a lot, but unfortunately I didnt reach anywhere.
What I am trying to do here basically is that I have all my footage setup in premiere. In my Audio section I have included 4audio tracks (each for a specific language). How do I export this video so that 4 tracks are available, you know like tetra audio for a dvd.
I'm asked to do this in avi format, does the format matter or it has nothing to do with it.
Please save me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 different exports, one for each language.
AVI is a container, not a specific format.

Fix For Missing Multi-Channel Audio in Video Files

Download newest version of Handbrake, re-encode your files using the Preset settings for AppleTV 2. Once the file is done, it will play with the audio. I tested it on a movie earlier. Hope this works for all of you, I have been just as frustrated since the 4.3 update was released.

Quicktime Update No Longer Plays Any of My MP4 or M4V Video Files!?

Hi there everyone. I am absolutely desperate to find a solution to my problem now, so I was hoping someone on here might be able to help me out. I have a G4 that I use as a media center via frontrow to play my huge collection of MP4 and M4V video files that are local and streamed from the library on my main intel mac. This has been working fine for some time and I haven't had any problems playing files.
However, when iTunes 9 came out, I ran software update and updated iTunes and Quicktime to 7.6.4, as well as updating the OS to 10.5.8. As soon as I did this, all the MP4 and M4V files that had worked fine up until that point stopped being playable by frontrow/itunes/quicktime. A lot of these are movies that I bought from the iTunes store, and it will not even play those now. It is definitely not a video format problem. When I try to play them in quicktime, I get the error "file is not a video file". This applies to all old files, plus new ones I have attempted to add. Also, frontrow WILL play video files streamed from my main computer, but not local ones (same files). I did the exact same updates on my main mac, and all the files will play perfectly fine on that machine, it is only this one that won't play.
I have tried everything I can think of, I have reinstalled both apps several times. I have also checked the System/Library/Quicktime components and they are all intact, exactly the same as on my other machine. Now it looks as though my only option is to start again from scratch and reinstall the operating system - a time consuming option as I do not back up this secondary machine..
Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do to fix the Quicktime installation? Any help would be much appreciated.

Ok well if you want to go about it down and dirty you can try this. Take a file that does copy over correctly, for my purposes I had a Rocky and Bullwinkle episode that if I changed the file extension to .m4v it would add correctly through iTunes. From Terminal search /Volumes/youripodname/iPod_Control/Music/ for any file with the m4v extension and take note of them. Now add the "supported" file through iTunes then after it finishes do another search from Terminal and see which file with an m4v extension wasn't there before. Now from Terminal copy the "unsupported" file over to the same location with the same name. Here's what mine looked like cp /Volumes/harddrivename/Video/MUTEMATH.mp4 /Volumes/youripodname/iPod_Control/Music/F12/SJXB.m4v Now in iTunes change the Info for that file with the "Get Info" menu and your set. Mine now plays a video file that it wouldn't let me add through iTunes after the 9.0 update.
I'm sure there's a better way and when I figure out a quick script to do this by directly modifying the itunes database I'll try and repost a solution.

Add track info to video files

after installing the latest version of iTunes yesterday, I can no longer add track info to video files. The fix for the last version of iTunes was to hold shift and select "get info", but that option is now gone. Any help would be appreciated.

iTunes 12.1 has removed access to that older dialog box. Track numbers and disc numbers are available for TV Shows, but not for Podcasts for example. Text fields can usually be edited in the list views. For numeric fields either temporarily change the media kind to one that has access to the field you want or use/adapt my scripts mentioned in your other thread: Re: Adding track number to tv shows on the newest itunes.

Merging 2 sound tracks together for R and L channels. And linking to video file.

My sound is recorded separately and is imported as 2 separate tracks. One for R channel and one for L channel. What is the best way to merge them together and link to a video file corresponding to those tracks?

They are 2 separate mono tracks.
The way I went about it right now is I have put them both on 2 separate audio tracks in the sequence
and then panned the volume on one to R and on the other to L.
Not sure if its correct or if there is a better way to do that.

Can't add audio to video file in QT 7.1.5 on WinXP.

Quicktime Pro 7.1.5 on a PC running WinXP.
I have created a video file (.mov) and now wish to add an Audio track. Following the instructions in Help, however nothing seems to happen - click on the menu item to Edit->Add To Movie but nothing happens - in fact the menu doesn't even disappear as if the button is locked.
Any hints?

Open your audio only movie in QT Pro.
Select all and copy.
Switch to your video only file, position the playhead at the beginning and "add".
If your files have different "times" you'll need to reverse the copy (video), select all of audio track and add scaled.

Howto add adiuo track to video in Compressor

I exported video from Final Cut to Compressor for burning on DVD, after I deleted source files in FCP. Now I have 2 separate files with video and audio, how can I convert them to one file for iPod?
If I add both files to Compressor it creates two separate jobs, is there any option to add audio track to video?

If you've created a DVD (or VIDEO_TS) you can use an app like DVDxDV (www.dvdxdv.com) to create a QT movie from the source.
or
You can transcode the AC3 file to an AIFF 48k/16 pcm file in Compressor, and then transcode the MPEG-2 video stream to whatever I-Frame codec you want to work with (DV, ProRes, etc). Next, take those two files into FCP and sync, or use QT Pro's "Add to Movie" command and Save As a self-contained movie.

Creating (sharing) a video with a sound-track as .wmv file, no sound track. Any ideas?

I'm a new user, and I have imported a video file (created by PowerPoint, and a sound-track (created by Cubase software from Steinberg.
When I view the video within Premiere Elements it's all there - video and audio both. However, when I try to create an external .wmv file (Publish+Share), I don't get any audio.
Set up is Windows PC running Windows XP SP3, with 4 GB of RAM, and 500 GByte hard drive. Premiere Elements version is 11.0
What I'm doing:
I imported the input video file and dropped it on the main Video1 timeline. Then I dropped the finished sound-track on Audio 1. When I click Play, I hear the sound-track and see the video. To Publish+Share, I select Computer from the drop-down menu. Then, in the location and settings list I select Windows Media.I choose 720*480 pixels, 4:3 aspect ration and 29.97 frames per second. In the Advanced.. panel, I make certain that Export Video and Export Audio are both checked. Ther dialog box reports that it will create a 174 MByte file, with 440 kbps/ 96 kHz audio in a 2-channel configuration.
So I click Save, and the program hems and haws for about 34 minutes, and says it's done. All I get is the video - in a 16.414 MByte file (the original input file, also .wmv was only 9.1 MBytes), so something must have happened. However, all I get is video, and no sound-track.
I'm totally convinced that the problem lies between my ears, but I'd like to hear someone provide some guidance. I've missed the deadline for an important project, and I don't want to slip any further :-(

Let us back track through the details.
Premiere Elements 11 on Windows XP 32 bit.
What are the video compression and file extension of the file created in PowerPoint? What version PowerPoint? What is the frame size and frame rate?
What are the audio compression and file extension (mp3 or .wav) of the audio created with this Cubase software? Are you dealing with mono, stereo, or 5.1 channel?
From your description, it sounds like you are letting version 11 set the project preset for you. What is it setting? We can find that out from the reading under Edit Menu/Project Settings/General - Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, Pixel Aspect Ratio, even if the fields appear to be grayed out.
If you import your .wmv export back into the Premiere Elements project, do you see content in both the video and audio tracks? If so, do both play back when you press the play button of the Edit area monitor?
Have you checked Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware and ASIO and have you checked out your audio in the Edit area with the Audio Meter opened to verify sound level? See Window Menu/Audio Meters.
Is the problem confined to this PowerPoint video and Cubase audio? What happens if you try this with a video from your camera and soundtrack from one of the SmartSound soundtracks?
Please review the above and then let us know the answers to the questions.

How to add a video file into an html page

I would like to add a Quick Time video into a website that i am currently coding for a school project. I have the video file on my hard drive, so I'm not trying to embed it from YouTube. I have tried several ways of placing the video into my webpage, but all I can hear is the sound from it, there is no visual to go with it. Does anyone know how I would go about placing the file into my webpage, or what code I would need to use? I'm using Dreamweaver CS4 and, once again, the video is a Quick Time file.

QuickTime requires player and plugins that most people don't have. You'll reach a much wider audience if you use HTML5 <video> with mp4, webm and ogg files.
