Add a Apple display to 09 iMac 27"

Is it possible to use the Apple 27" Display as a second on an iMac 27" late 2009 model using the mini display port and the Apple adapter?

Is it possible to use the Apple 27" Display
Is this last year's Mid 2010 27" LCD Apple Display? If so, it is mini-DisplayPort display, just as the Late '09 iMac is DisplayPort. You should use a m-DP to m-DP cable and all should be well.
If this is the new ThunderBolt display, no, it only works with the new TB Macs. There is no adapter to make it work with another Mac.

  • Is there anyway to add a 3rd display to the quad core iMac 27?

Is there anyway to add a 3rd display to the quad core iMac 27? I know a 2nd can be added using the mini port.. but curious to see if there is a solution to add a 3rd if desired.
    Thanks!

As Sherman says, the only way to add a 3rd display to an iMac or MacBook is to use a USB to DVI adapter. I've been using the Gefen adapter for a year or so now with my MacBook Pro and it works great:

But USB does not have a lot of bandwidth, so you can't use it for video, games and other similar stuff. Works great for Mail, web browsing, iWork, etc.

  • Which imacs and apple displays connect to late 2008 aluminum macbook 13 inch for use as external display?

I have a late 2008 13 inch aluminum macbook and want to purchase an iMac computer or apple display to use as an external display for it while I'm at my desk.
I can afford up to $700 for sure, maybe up to $1000 and would like one that has built in camera and audio if possible.
I'd like to know what my options are as it seems not all are compatible.
I'll mostly be doing web browsing and photo editing in Aperture.
Also wondering if it's possible to sync 2 computers so that when you make changes on one it reflects the changes in the other. Like you can with certain apps like Evernote.
    Thank you for your help!

Yes he is right, Snow Leopard is your first step.  Once you have that you can upgrade directly to Mountain Lion if memory serves me correct.  Some people were saying that Lion was a little sluggish with the aluminum MacBook but that Mountain Lion was great.  Personally I had Lion on it also and didn't think it ran badly.  10.6 was still with Rosetta (the program that ran power pc apps) but this is dropped on 10.7 and up.  Up until just the other day I still had the stock 2 gb of ram.  The firmware update happens with Snow Leopard and up so it should come up as a software update.  If not, it can be done manually as well.  The ram I purchased was 60 bucks for the 8 gb.  For Lion and Mountain Lion I have to agree with the above reply, that it would run alot better with at least 4 gb.  If you run that many apps at once then you are going to want as much ram as you can get.  If you add a solid state drive you will be amazed at the difference it will make too.

  • Adding a non apple 1080p monitor as second display to 2011 iMac 27"

Looking to add a second display to my new iMac but cant afford another thunderbolt screen. What is the best port and then cable to use to connect a non Apple 1080p slave monitor? I assume DVI or HDMI on the slave monitor side but what port on the iMac side? only choices are USB, Firewire, & Thunderbolt. Advice much appreciated!

Thunderbolt is based on DisplayPort technology and a Mini DisplayPort adapter plugs right into the Thunderbolt port. So depending on your monitors connection, you most likely will need a Mini-DVI to HDMI or Mini-DVI to DVI adapter.

  • How to adjust the brightness of a second display connected to iMAC 2012  by Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter?

How to adjust the brightness of a second display (Dell 3007WFPHC 2560x1600 dpi) connected to 27 inch iMAC 2012 through thunderbolt port by an Apple Mini Display Port to Dual-Link DVI Adapter?

Macs control computer by USB.  With a non-Apple display, you will have to use the brightness control on the display.

  • Am I able to add a second display (LED TV) to my iMac via my network?

I have a 21.5 inch Late 2009 iMac (too old for Mirroring to Apple TV). I would like to be able to use my LED TV as a second display, so that effectively I can view non-iTunes media in my lounge room. I currently have the iMac connected to an Airport Extreme via Ethernet cable. I have an Airport Express also connected to the Extreme via Ethernet cable in Bridge Mode in the lounge room. I am wondering if it is possible to connect the TV via Ethernet cable to the Express (the TV has a network connection input), and then be able to use the TV as a second display for the iMac. I know I can do this if I connect the TV directly to the iMac via Ethernet, just am unable to determine if I can do it via the two Airport devices - I guess I am wanting to make the TV a "Network Display". I do also have an Apple TV connected via HDMI cable to that TV. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The easiest way would be to set up a seperate user account. That user would have their own iTunes with their own Library.

First format the drive to OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored:
Next drag your iPhoto library from your Pictures folder to the EHD.  When the copying is complete launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and in the window that comes up select the library on the EHD:
Check the file path under the window to make sure the correct library has been selected.
Once you've confirmed that the EHD library is working properly and has all of your photos you can delete the library in your Pictures folder.

  • Will a Macbook Pro + 24" Apple display be as good as a 24" iMac for video?

I need to buy my new Mac set up soon and am debating whether to get a 24" iMac ( either the 2.93 ghz or 3.06ghz) , or a 15" macbook Pro 2.8Ghz with a 24" Apple display. I want a 24" screen.
Aside from the obvious considerations of cost and portability, at this stage I simply want to know whether the Macbook Pro plus display combination would perform as well as the iMac? I will be using it to edit video using iMovie and FCE.
(I will also use it for photo work with maybe Aperture, music production with Logic Express but I appreciate that this is a video discussion board as this is my primary concern for now.)
Would there be any issues of heat or fan noise? (There was with my old Macbook core duo.) I have also noticed that the 24" Apple displays get a lot hotter than the iMacs. Should this be a cause for concern.
Any other reasons to favour one over the other apart from cost and portability which I will factor in once I can rate them for performance?
    thanks

Either will be fine. I use a 17" MBP (mid-2008) and have no fan noise issues. I also use a 24" iMac (2.16GHz. mid-2007). They're both fine.

  • 24" iMac... Mac Pro with Viewsonic Monitor or Apple Display.

I'm tossing between the options of getting just a 24" iMac... or getting a Mac Pro and getting an Apple Monitor or Getting a Viewsonic Monitor... Are the Apple displays really worth their price? If ONLY talking displays not specs would I really enjoy the 24" iMac due to it being 24" but at the same time (quick mention of specs) it's not upgradable as much as a Mac Pro... is spending $1,000 on a 23" Apple display worth it? I want at least a 22" display. I can get a Viewsonic 22" for less then $400. What is so great about the Apple 23" display that I would want to buy that instead and spend the extra money?

    figured out what I wanted

  • IMac vs MacBook Pro + Apple Display

First off, my apologies if this is not considered appropriate for the board.
I have an 2009 MacBook Pro and love it. My iPad is increasingly taking care of my mobile computer needs. I tend to use the MBP at a desk and portability comes in handy for trips.
With the new iMacs coming out and with the new MBPs I am wondering:
    1) Have you made the switch from a MBP to an iMac? Any regrets?
    2) Any of you using a MBP and Apple display? (another option I'm considering)
    3) If you have used both an iMac and MBP, have you noticed any major differences in performance?
    Thanks in advance!!

I've done that, the display on a MBP on a display and ultimately I opted for an Imac. It was not performance per say, through the IMAC has a better card if you need it and get a good config, for me it was working in an uncluttered space.
I love my MBP but the Imac feels more open to me for a long wrok environment, I prefer the magic mouse to the trackpad and love the larger HD space. I use both, sometimes at once as I do alot of 3d artwork and the rendering times can sometimes take a while so I need the second system for doing other things.
I think really it just comes down to personal feeling and if you think the MBP does that for you that's great. Possibly head down to the apple store and muck about with an Imac for a little and see how you feel it .

  • Imac connecting to 30" apple display

My question is if an early 2007 imac model, <Edited by Host> can be connected to either the new 24" apple display or the 30"one and if so what do i need to connect it? Also are there any performance issues with doing any of this?

Your iMac's mini-DVI connector is limited to single link DVI (1920x1200) such as found in the 24" monitor; the 30" monitor requires dual link DVI (2560x1500). As answered previously, you need a mini-DVI to DVI connector to connect to Apple's 24" monitor.

  • Matching Displays For New iMacs

Just wondering if Apple is considering making a MATCHING display for the new iMac line? It's great to be able to attach a second display to an iMac, but it would be even more kicking if it matched the look of the iMac with aluminum and glass. Any rumblings from Apple about this. I'm ready to buy!

    Hi Priti,
I tried restricting records using Named Searhes and Masks but it includes all the records with Match step property Records Vs All. You have to perform some maunal step either by selecting records using some search criteria or you can use Named Searches i.e.
    1. Create one field say New of type boolean and by default set it to NO.
    2. Create one named search for this field value to YES.
    3. Create one assignment which sets the value for this field to YES and add this assignment in the workflow as the first step.
    4. When ever you import records, assignment will set New=YES for all the records imported. Now, when you add more records, search the previous records using Restore Named Search function which will give the list of records imported now. You can perform Matching and Merging operation.
    5. Add one more assignment to the workflow as the last step which should set New=NO so that records should not appear next time for Matching

  • Using an external non-Apple display on a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion

On Friday I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard and now I am not able to use my 23" Samsung monitor exclusively as my display. I can mirror the MacBook Pro's display, but then my HD monitor's resolution is downgraded.
I used to start-up my MacBook Pro pushing the "On" button and then quickly closing the notebook. When it has started and the display was shown on my Samsung monitor, I opened the MacBook and all would be well. I had the benefit of the full HD resolution of my Samsung monitor, with all the menus and the MacBook's screen would be blank. If I follow the same steps now, the moment I open my MacBook, everything shifts back to the MacBook and the external screen only shows the background picture, with no menus.
I am a photographer and use the large HD-quality screen to see fine detail when I am doing editing. I do not like to work on two screens at the same time, and would prefer it to just keep on working in the same way as previuosly.
Can someone please give me advice on my problem?

This may help but then it may not. I tested it with my iMac and non-Apple second display so results may vary.
With both the MacBook and the second display powered on go to the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement
Drag the Menu Bar to the second display and then drag the display itself to the other side of the second display. This should allow acces to the dock and Menubar on the non-Apple display and achive your desired results.
Note: If I sleep my iMac the second display stops so you may need to keep your MacBook open to use these settings
    Hope that helps
