Add a background color in Illustrator 10

I have a .ai file I want to use for printed business cards. I want to add a simple one color background. How do I do this. (I am a beginner, so please explain in detail.)
Thanks

No matter what version of ILlustrator, I prefer using layers. If you open the Layers paletter and make a new layer. Drag it to the bottom of the layers palette. Select the layer and draw a rectangle filled with color on that layer. You can then lock the layer and draw on the other layers without touching the background.
Conversely, you can lock the other layers and unlock the background and change the background color to whatever you choose. Experiment.
The HELP file will tell you more about layers.

    Hi Nina,
    Take a look at the example at http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=50942:91. It is using the static ID attribute "MYTABLE" and conditionally applying background color to the cell which contains the text "Report Summary".
    <script>
    //Report Summary
    $("#MYTABLE tbody tr td table tbody tr td:contains('Report Summary')").each(function(){
      $(this).parent('tr').children().css("background-color","#FFFF33"); ;

    Hello, I am using Pages on my iPhone and am wondering how to set a background color. I know there are easy to do It on the Mac version, but I am not usually on my Mac editing documents (I have iCloud Drive). I have iOS 8.0.2 and the latest version of pages.

    Specifically to add a background color, no. The only workaround I am aware of is to add a text box to the document format and expand it to cover the entire page. Available colors will be limited, and you may need to experiment with the opacity.

    when I installed/downloaded Mozilla/Firefox originally, I "set" an option that changed the "background" color for certain pages that I download. When I try to print some pages, the entire background (or some blank spaces) is printed in a purple color. (It uses too much ink to print a page.)
    Can't find where I can change the original settings I used and make the background white, or no color at all.

  • Background color code is not working. Please help

    I am trying to add a background color to a page.
    But the background color is not showing.
    What I am doing is adding, using just as an example pink:
    bgcolor: pink;
    to the style section.
    Here is a simplified version of the code. It just uses the
    letter "a repeated for where there is much more text:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0
    Transitional//EN" "

    style="font-family:'Arial Black'; font-size:14.0pt; ">aaaaaaaa
    aaaaaaaaa aaaaa aaaaaa</span></p>
    </body>
    </html>
    What am I doing wrong?

    >> What am I doing wrong?
    1. Using improper CSS syntax as Ken pointed out.
    2. Using code from MS Word (p.MsoNormal).
    3. Using physical units of measure in your CSS for an
    on-screen document
    (pt, cm)
    4. Using an invalid CSS property (text-autospace)

  • Why is the background color not applied in one case?

    Hi,
    I'm using RH 7 and WebHelp.
    I apply a TableHeading style to the first row of my tables. The TableHeading style is supposed to fill the cells of the first row with a background color of blue, and the text is in white. It works fine except for one table. I think TableHeading style was not applied in the Word document when I imported this topic. I tried to apply the TableHeading style to the first row, and it says it is applied in the HTML. But, the background blue does not fill the cells.
    Here is what I am trying to achieve:
    Here is my problem table:
    I can see in the HTML that the background color is not present in the code. Here is the code for the example that is correct:
    <p class=TableHeading>Chapter</td>
    <td style="border-left: none; border-right: solid #000000 1.0px; border-top: solid #000000 1.0px; border-bottom: solid #000000 1.0px;
              width: 279.4pt; padding: 0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; background-color: #003399;"
    bgcolor=#003399 width=279.4pt>
    <p class=TableHeading>Description</td></tr>
    <tr><td style="x-cell-content-align: top; border-left: solid #000000 1.0px; border-right: solid #000000 1.0px; border-top: none;
                       border-bottom: solid #000000 1.0px; width: 182.85pt; padding: 0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt;
                       padding-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px;
                       padding-bottom: 0px;" valign=top width=182.9pt>
    Here is the code for my problem table:
    <p class=TableHeading>Activity</td>
    <td style="border-left: none; border-right: solid #000000 1.0px; border-top: solid #000000 1.0px; border-bottom: solid #000000 1.0px;
              width: 168.0pt; padding: 0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt;" width=168pt>
    <p class=TableHeading>Keyboard Shortcut</td></tr>
    <tr style="x-cell-content-align: center;" valign=middle>
    <td style="width: 374px; x-cell-content-align: top; border-left: solid #000000 1.0px; border-right: solid #000000 1.0px;
              border-top: none; border-bottom: solid #000000 1.0px; padding: 0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt;
              padding-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px;
              padding-bottom: 0px;" valign=top width=374px>
    Here is the code from the CSS:
    p.TableHeading {
    background-color: #003399;
    punctuation-wrap: simple;
    text-autospace: none;
    font-size: 10.0pt;
    font-weight: bold;
    color: #ffffff;
    font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;
    margin-left: 3pt;
    margin-right: 3.0pt;
    line-height: 120%;
    margin-top: 0pt;
    margin-bottom: 0pt;
    LI.p-TableHeading {
    punctuation-wrap: simple;
    text-autospace: none;
    font-size: 10.0pt;
    font-weight: bold;
    color: #ffffff;
    font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;
    line-height: 120%;
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Julie
     I don't understand why the TableHeading style is not applying the background color for the one table. I'm guessing I could just add it to the code using the HTML editor. However, I wasn't sure if that was the best way to fix this problem or if I would create another problem.

    Hi Willam,
    Thanks for your answer, and I will go ahead and add the background color to the problem table.
    However, I am still puzzled as to why the background color is applied to the cells in the other tables and not the problem table. I'm not sure what I did to cause the problem - how I applied the TableHeading to the table cell in one case and not the other. Any ideas how I can avoid this problem?
    I will not use the Word documents going forward and will only make changes with the RH editor.
    Thanks again,
    Julie

  • Chnage background color of a region

    Hi,
    How can we change or add a background color to a region in apex.
    thanks,
    tj

    Hi TJ,
    For things like styling, the easiest thing to do is to run your page and then do a View Source on it. Find your region's title and check what class name has been used - probably something like "t1RegionHeader". This gives you something that you can target in a STYLE tag.
    In your region's Region Header setting, add in something like:
    .t1RegionHeader {font-size:16px; color:red; font-weight:bold;}What sort of shape do you want your region? If you are refering to rounded corners, for example, that would require rewriting the region's template. The link that you got in your other thread ([http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=27123:1]) shows loads of different themes and how each part looks - if your current theme doesn't include a template that you want, you could create an application using a theme that does contain the look and then manually copy a template from there into your existing application. The only thing you may have to do is to change the colours used - the above gives you an example of doing that.

  • How to add background color in JFrame

    I have three classes, Car, CarComponent, and CarViewer. I don't know how to code background color. Do I add it to CarViewer where the JFrame is or CarComponent?
    CarViewer:
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    public class CarViewer
       public static void main(String[] args)
          JFrame frame = new JFrame();
          frame.setSize(300, 400);
          frame.setTitle("Two cars");
          frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
          CarComponent component = new CarComponent();
          frame.add(component);
          frame.setVisible(true);
    }CarComponent
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.awt.Graphics2D;
    import javax.swing.JComponent;
       This component draws two car shapes.
    public class CarComponent extends JComponent
       public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
          Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
          Car car1 = new Car(0, 0);
          int x = getWidth() - 60;
          int y = getHeight() - 30;
          Car car2 = new Car(x, y);
          car1.draw(g2);
          car2.draw(g2);
    }

    What JSG said, plus I really don't think it's a good idea to instantiate new Car objects in a paintComponent override. Painting methods should be restricted to painting activities, as a matter of principle.
    One alternative is to construct your Car instances in a separate method and call repaint() when done; another is to provide a Car method say moveTo(int x, int y) OR refactor the draw(Graphics g) method of Car to draw(Graphics g, int x, int y). Both these suggest that you maintain the Car references as instance fields of CarViewer.
    In future (not this time), Swing related questions should be posted in the [Swing forum|http://forums.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=57]

  • How to add the text box with background color in Acrobat 9 Pro ? (Urgent)

    I have previously used the Callout tool to add the comments in a PDF file, but the comments were difficult to read as some of them were mixed with the pictures just shown below. Therefore , I hope that there's a tool that can create the box with background color, but I cannot find such tool. What should I do ? Hope to get the answer ASAP, as it's very urgent !
    P.S. The picture below is represent the problem: the comment are difficult to read.

    In the properties of the callout comment you can change the fill color.

    If the grayscale looks ok on screen, you are probably not setting up your print correctly. What OS? What printer?

  • Can you no longer have a background color for the text box in the new version of hp photo creations

    just updated to the new version of HP Photo Creations, used to be able to have a colored background for the text box - is that no longer possible in this new (not better) version????!!!!! Uuuuuuuuuugh

    Hi Lainey.
    Thanks for asking. We're working on bringing back that feature. In the meantime, here's another way to add text backgrounds: Add a placeable graphic and then click the Arrange button to send it to the back, behind the text.
    That approach also gives you more interesting shapes. The new alignment guides make it a snap to align a graphic with a text box. In the example below (it may take a day for the image to show up here), I also used the new Premium Editing Features to change the color of the graphic.
    P.S. — Applying a thick border to an empty text box (also using the Premium Editing Features) is another way to create a background shape. That has the advantage of letting you pick any color for the box. You'll also find several new text styles at the bottom of the new text menu.
