Add a dimension to Phased Submission!?

Hi,
we have only accounts in the phased submission in process control.
Now we need to expand to C4.
So I activated the option "SupportSubmissionPhaseForCustom4" and load the metadata to the application.
And what happened!?
In process control the closed periods show "Published" - thats fine!
In a grid under "Process Level" in properties of a cell it shows "Not supported" and a user with review level 3 can change the data!!! - thats crazy!!
My question: Is it not possible to expand the phased submission to an additional dimension or ist it a bug (with an existing patch)?

Hi StLanger,
I have just noticed that you mentioned that the person has changed data in previous "published" periods.
I think that since you have changed the process management of the metadata you should "re-promote" phase 1 to phase 4 of all the previous periods to "Published". The system has already published all the POVs with submission group: 0 but not with the new submission groups.

We are trying to figure out which can give us better performance in terms of calculations and retrieving reports - to add another dimension (entity/country) or add about 500-800 more members in an existing location/division dimension?

If you have BSO cube i would recommend to add in the same dimension where as ASO you can add members in a new dimension. Adding a new dimension is like creating a new cube you have to change each and every single calc scripts,report scripts,FR reports,Webforms and your rule files .... all the dependencies has to be changed manually . I think 500 members in the exsting BSO dimension will not impact the calc or retrieval times that much .

you can use tools like ODI or DIM or HAL to load metadata & data into planning applications.
The data load can be done at the Essbase end using rules file. But metadata changes should flow from planning to essbase through any of above mentioned tools and also there are many other way to achieve the same.

Hi Experts,
I am new to BPC and was just wondering if there will be any adverse affects if we add a dimension to an application while the BPC system is in the production mode. Can it even be done? If not, I would like to know if there is a work around.
Also, I would like to know the consequences on the BPC system if we can (and do) add a dimension to the application.

According to my knowledge... you will not have development rights in production. It is not advisable to do it directly on production system, which can lead to unnecessary situation which will be difficult to handle. its advisable to do the development in dev system and transport to the prod.
coming to your specific question.......
you can add dimension to the application by using modify application feature.

Programmatically add a dimension condition in my BI JSP crosstab page

How can I programmatically add a dimension condition on a existing measure in my BI JSP page?? My case is that I have a fact table which stores all department cost. I want my BI JSP crosstab can only display one department cost total "not" all department total. But, the department condition is base on which user logined. For example, "A" user should display "aa" department and "B" user should display "bb" department. Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks very much!!!!!

I would recommend using the built-in security feature of the analytic workspace. There is a command called PERMIT that can be applied to both dimensions and cubes and controls user access to dimension members.
There is a document on the OLAP home page that explains how to secure and AW using the permit command

Can we improve perfromence if we add the dimensions in LTS

hi all
i have one small doubt ,
i heard that if we add dimensions in to the fact in LTS(once u double clikc on the LTS in General tab you can find add button from there u can select all the other dimensions which are connected to the fact table , if we add few dimension to the fact table will it increase the performance??
other wise can any one tel me why we have to add the dimensions ,
if we will not add the dimensions to the fact performance problem will come or not?

Sreedhar,
No the performance will not bump up merely adding a dimension as a new source to logical fact table.
Adding sources will not effect performances.
Adding Summary/Aggregate/Materialized Views(Oracle terminology for summary tables) will bump up performance and specifying exact content information is vital.
Google for Aggregate tables in OBIEE. You will find tons of posts.

Is it possible to add multiples dimension objects in Webi Ranking ?

As per the project requirement we need to convert custom sqls to reporting sql in webi 3.1 sp5 .
Is it possible to add multiple dimension objects while applying ranking (Webi query panel ).
Or is there any other way to achieve this feature in BO ?

Hi ,
There is a way if you want to apply ranking within a ranking . Below are the steps:
First on the outer side we can use the Rank feature which is available directly
Then use the Rank Function (=rank ()) and reset your dimension accordingly .
This kind of Ranking is possible.

I want to use the phases submission in process control and I have a problem regarding the submission group and the order in phased submission ...
In application settings is submission phase activated for accounts, custom1 and custom 4.
The follwoing issue ...
Phase 1:
Accounts: Gross Margin (from P&L) --> Group 10
Custom1: [None] --> Group 15
Custom4: Input1 --> Group 50
Phase 2:
Accounts: Rest of P&L --> Group 20
Custom1: [None] --> Group 15
Custom4: Input1 --> Group 50
Accounts: Balance Sheet --> Group 30
Custom1: Movements --> Group 30
Custom4: Input1 --> Group 50
Phase 3:
Accounts: P&L --> Group ??
Custom1: CostCenter --> Group 45

So I understand your problem, I'm just really confused as to how that happened. Can you share the Process History of the two phases(Feel free to remove names, the times are the important parts).
To go from Published in Phase 1 to RL3 means that you were somehow able to reject Phase 1 twice. Either that, or Submitted is not considered higher than RL 3.
Try seeing if you can reject phase 1 down another level and then reject Phase 2. I don't know if HFM considers Submitted to be the 2nd highest RL or not, but if it doesn't, then this might work.
Again, the process history for the entity would help greatly.

Easy way to add doc dimensions to slug area?

Does anyone know of an automated way to add the documents dimensions to the slug area? I've tried searching around but haven't found any results more recent than 2009. I'm using CS4.

Add a dimension in an ASO app. Loading problem

Hi guys.
I have an ASO application and I need to add a scenario dimension. this new dimension will have 2 members real, forecast. Currently I have 6 different dimensions, and i need to export all current database info and reload it with the intersenction with the member real of the new dimension.
The problem consists in that i cant get an export file with column format, since essbase doesn't alllow it for aggregate databases, so i can't just aggregate one column to a rule file for solving the problem. The ASO default database export puts continuously all dim member names intersections and the asssociated data, separated by comma, and so on, so i can't use a rule file to treat the essbase native export file, as far i know.
I thought that with a report script with all dimensions in rows will help me, since it's the way to get all intersections and data in columns, but the problem is after a while, the admin services stops the report generation stating that there isn't enough cache memory in the app, since the database is too big. I increased from 32k to even 2056k the cache size, and the problem still continues, so I really accept any suggestion in order to solve the problem.
I broke the report in just smaller reports, by years, and by accounts, letting the other dims in level 0, and with just one account member and 1 year, the report tooks about 3 hours to generate it, and there would be be about 60 reports similar with similar times, so it's not an economical and effective solition..
I wonder if there anyway that you know thaat can help us.

Thanks Glenn for you answer.... I got another idea using part of your solution. Did an export of the current cube, create another ASO cube with similar outine, but added the new dimension and memebers real and forecast, modified the export file adding on the first line the word "real" of the new member, and loaded the modified export in the new cube.... and worked!!

Add a dimension - Problems with journal

Hi,
We need to add to a dimension to an existing application that has journal defined.
We have done the following steps:
1) We add and assign the new dimension to the application succesfully.
2) We try to create within the journal wizard, the new journal template adding the new dimension and we receive the following error "The system cannot create journal template".
We wanted to know, if is posible to generate manually the template or what is the best practice to add a new dimension in an application that has journals.

Solution1:
This error will occur if the query files folder is missing from each of the
problem applications. To resolve, simply copy the query file folder or
create one under each application and run through the journal wizard again.
Solution 2:
Reason:That issue may arise if native Excel is configured to open less than three
sheets by default on the client machine used to build the template.
Solution:
You can modify the Excel settings:
- In Excel 2003, select Tools, Options and click General in the Options
dialog box. Then change the setting for "Sheets in new workbook".
- In Excel 2007, click on the Office button and then on the Excel Options
button. In the Popular tab, "When creating new workbooks", please change
the "Include this many sheets" setting.
If it is different than 3, please set it back to 3 and test to build your
journal template again.
Solution 3:
Reason:The journal template couldn`t be created if the application
have more than 7 dimensions which are set for secure.
Soln: recommend setting dimension for secure as less than 7.

Add Selection Dimension Members in package LoadInfoprovider

Hello,
I have a requirement where i have to add dimensions Entity and Time into standard package LoadInfoprovider.
I need to allow user to choose wich entity he wants to extract from Bw infocube into BPC infocube.
Using the transformation file to do this is not a option because my client has 200 entities and we don't have to maintan 200 files.
Any ideas?

This type of dynamic selection is not supported by the LoadInfoprovider process chain or the transformation file structure in the 7.0 version. The issue is that there is no delivered way to pass DM prompts through to the transformation file, so you have to preset the *SELECTION= option in the transformation file and then choose your selection based on your transformation file.
You have a few options:
1. Usually we try to create transformation files that correspond to the groups of entities our different user groups will be interested in. This cuts down on the multiple transformation file issue (200 entities down to the number of user groups).
2. Another option, which we have not had to use, is to use security or work status to protect entities that a particular user is not supposed to be able to write to. These records will then be rejected in the load. (You'll need to set your rejected record limit very high in the transformation file for this to work.)
3. A last option is to set up a load of all entities into the BPC application in a "load" datasource (or a staging application), then allow the user to bring entities over into the main reporting datasource using the Copy DM package, which allows a granular and dynamic selection.
Overall, I'd recommend attempting to design your application in such a way that users will not have to make the choice to load specific entities, so that you can avoid these workarounds.

Planning Unit add extra dimension

Hi,
In Planning unit along with Scenario, Version and Entity can we have one extra dimension? I have another custom dimension named Department with security and want to have workflow against both Entity and Department. I am using EPM 11.1.2. If possible where can I define that.

If you edit your planning unit hierarchy there should be an option to add a secondary dimension so you should be able to add department.

How to add a new dimension in ASO cube without losing all data

Hi,
I have an ASO cube with 18 dimensions and I want to add a new one (regular). When I add this new dimension it asked me that the all data has to cleared before the restructure can take place. If I click yes then I would lose all data regardless of the fact if I have a level0 export or not. Because when I tried to reload the export back into the cube it gave me an error cause all the dimensions were not present in the export. Does anyone know how would I be able to accomplish this task?

You can try this work around solution.
1) Export Lev0 data
2) Clear the cube
3) Add new dimension Regular.
4) Add a default member Reg00 in the new dimension and save.
5) Open the Lev0 data in a text editor, Insert "Reg00" in the begining of the file and Enter.
6) Lev0 file will have first record "Reg00" and the remaining export file will be from the second record.
7) Load the modified file with out rule file.
You can verify that all your history data will be loaded w.r.to the Reg00 of the New dimension Regular.
