Add a "Mixed Ink" swatch like in InDesign

The new separations palette in Illustrator CS4 is a strong move in the right direction for designers and print production, but having the ability to add a Multi-Ink to your swatches like you can in InDesign would be even better. As a printing company, we often do double hits of spot inks and CMYK mixes under spot inks for special effects. These are very easy to do using Mixed Inks in InDesign, but in Illustrator we have to duplicate objects and set them to overprint each other.
Also, an Ink Manager similar to InDesign would be great too.

I agree! It will also minimize the errors especially that there's a tendency to forget setting the overprint in the spot color.
There are lot of medical/scientific Journals that requires a lot of mixed ink swatches not only in the layout but also in individual artworks.
It opens the possibilities for creativity combining appearance palette, mixed ink swatches, and graphic styles.
I also noticed that novice users of Illustrators have apprehensions using the appearance palette. They'd rather duplicate the object and apply overprint which results to error-prone files.
Since this feature is already available in InDesign, I hope there should be little compatibility issue when linking the artwork in the layout even in lower versions of InDesign.
I hope that the Illustrator development team consider this small request...

  • Third Party Plug-in for Multiple Swatch Palettes in InDesign

    Hello,
Does anyone know if there is a third-party plug in to have multiple swatch palettes in InDesign? I would like to create different palettes for different sections of the long document --- scrolling through all of the swatches each time is cumbersome.
    Many thanks!
    Jessica W.

Here's a little trick that may not even require a third party plugin
    On the Master Page
Create a bunch of rectangles, colour them with all the swatch colours you need, make as many pallettes as you like.
    Then group them together
    Create a text frame
Insert the group as anchored objects
Alignment make it away from spine (so it's always way out to the right or left)
Then Move the text frame over so that it encroaches on the page.
duplicate the frame and put it on the other side too.
Now all your pages have palletes of colour beside them. And you can use the Eye Dropper to sample the colours.

  • Crash when trying to convert mixed ink to CMYK

I have a mixed ink color consisting of Process Cyan (79%) and a spot color that I created (53%).
I'm trying to convert it to CMYK using IColorSystemUtils::ColorTransform(), but that just causes a crash (in CS3, CS4, and CS5).
Here's a code snippet (sourceColorData is an IColorData InterfacePtr):
// This returns an array of 2 values: .79 and .53
        ColorArray sourceArray = sourceColorData->GetColorData();
        // This returns kPMCsDeviceN (9)
        int32 sourceSpace = sourceColorData->GetColorSpace();
// Note that nowhere is there any information about the cyan and spot color
// values that combine to form my mixed ink color! It seems like I'd need that.
// How do I get it?
// Trying to convert to CMYK causes a crash
        ColorArray destArray = Utils<IColorSystemUtils>()->ColorTransform(doc, sourceArray, sourceSpace, kPMCsCalCMYK);
Can anyone help? I recently inherited this code and I'd like to make it work. Thanks.
    Bob

You can try exporting selections as excel workbook and check
Export Selection As Excel Workbook (.*xlsx): To copy the whole or part of a PDF table to Excel with Adobe Acrobat, select the table you need > Right click to reveal the option "Export Selection As…" > Click Export Selection As… > Name the file and select Excel Workbook (.*xlsx) from the Save as type drop-down list.
Save as Microsoft Excel Workbook: To convert a whole PDF file to Microsoft Excel Workbook with Adobe Acrobat, click File > Save As… >Spreadsheet > Microsoft Excel Workbook.

  • Embedding Mixed Ink Image?

I am trying to find out how to embed a mixed ink image into Illustrator (multiple spot colors) and not get single images once it's placed. So far I've only been able to do it with DCS 2.0 files which can only be linked, not embedded. I have been successful with saving PSD files and deleting all of the layer artwork, just keeping the channels, however when I embed that file it converts it into single images of each spot channel and not a mixed ink image. Basically what I'm looking for is when you look up at the top left bar when you have the image selected it should say embedded: mix ink image PPI: 300 or something like that. Instead I've only been able to get single image to show up. Does anyone know what format is required to get that? Thank you.

    CS6 for both.
Instructions: Take a photoshop file and make a few spot color channels. Save the file as (I'm trying to figure out the correct format to use) and place (embed, not linked) into an Illustrator document. The only option I have found to work is a DCS 2.0 file, which cannot be embedded or a psd (cymk, rgb, or grayscale mode) with spot channels, but it places each channel as a separate image and not as one "mixed ink" image. The issue is I need it to be one image that I can relink if I need to after the artwork has been embedded. This is to confirm registration. The current system of using DCS files allows you to do this, but it requires sending two files instead of one and is a much larger file. Saving as a PSD file allows me to embed the file but unfortunately places it as separate images (in illustrator it will read as multiple images when you click it after embedding) that I can't easily re-link if I need to update the artwork.
I know this is possible as I have a file that does this exact same thing I'm talking about and lists the art as a mixed ink image, however I do not know how it was does done as it does not tell me what the format was or how it was created. I've tried numerous formats in photoshop to try and replicate it, but have come up short. That is why I posted here. If someone knows I would be very grateful.
Here is what I'm trying to recreate:
    http://img4.uploadhouse.com/fileuploads/17911/1791123643792235d8ef3ec0d0ec51b1be1f3151.jpg
but this is what I keep getting:
    http://img3.uploadhouse.com/fileuploads/17911/179112359b299d33a43698baebeaa7cb1342402a.jpg
The last image is then broken down into individual image for each spot channel I created. I want it to stay as one image, which the mixed ink image appears to do.
PS I tried to unembed the mixed ink image and it alters the artwork to no longer look correct.

  • Stroke types and object corners options like in Indesign.

    Hi!
In Illustrator CS3, is there stroke type options and object corner options like in Indesign?
    Thanks!
    Chris.

    No.
Some stroke types are easy to make, such as dashes. Dots can be achieved using a round cap and a dash measure that begins with 0 (zero).
Multiple strokes are trickier. Use the Appearance panel to add a new stroke. You can offset different strokes to achieve stoke/transparent/stroke patterns or stack a white or coloured stroke over another stroke to achieve black/white/black strokes.
More elaborate stroke options are possible in Illustrator using pattern brushes.
As for corner effects, this is one place where Illustrator falls flat on its face. The only corner effect you can apply is a rounded corner, and the effect applies to the entire path, not corner-by-corner as in InDesign. Illustrator’s rounded corners also such for anything other than 90° corners.

  • What software is used to develop complex programs like 'Adobe InDesign'?

    I want to find out:
What software is used to develop complex programs like 'Adobe InDesign'?
    Thanks.

Just to expand a bit for anyone who is interested:
Virtually all commercial software like InDesign, Photoshop, etc., is written these days in C or C++. That's not so much because C is such a vastly better language than anything else, it's more because in its advent it was vastly better than anything else at the time, and as a result, all software programmers know C by default. And once you have the beginnings of a codebase in C and a pool of software engineers who all know C, there is little reason to rewrite your code in some other language from scratch.
Your question about software pertains more to the IDE that is used to write the code. That will obviously vary from one company to another and could be as simple as a plain text editor coupled with a command-line C compiler, to any number of commercial IDEs that all basically accomplish the same thing. For a long time in the elder days, virtually all code development on the Mac was done with CodeWarrior, but these days practically everyone on the Mac just uses Apple's own Xcode environment. For Windows development, the two real biggies are either Microsoft's Visual Studio (probably 90% of all Windows development is done using this IDE) and to a lesser degree, C++Builder, formerly owned by Borland but now by Embarcadero.
When building the code into an executable package, the underlying compiler that most commercial software developers use is Intel's own compiler. The IDEs above all include their own free compilers; Intel's is a commercial product that is more finely tuned for Intel processors and produces cleaner machine code. On the Mac, Apple just uses GCC, a free open-source compiler that has been developed and used for many years by the Unix and Linux community.

see my problem is user ABC doesn't get any messages in his

User XYZ is having messages in his business
    worplace.
SO I WANT user abc should get messages same as xyz.
If you know the workitem id then you can use the FM SAP_WAPI_FORWARD_WORKITEM to send the workitem multiple  user.
In Fm SAP_WAPI_FORWARD_WORKITEM you need to pass the workitem id in field WORKITEM_ID and all the user id in the table USER_IDS.
If you need to know the responsible agents of a particular workitem then you have can use FM SAP_WAPI_GET_WI_AGENTS where you need to pass the workitem number.

  • Custom PMS ink swatch

My client uses a custom PMS ink mix. How can I make a spot color swatch in Illustrator that shows the color and client name?

Double click a swatch in the Swatches panel. Change its name. For Color Type choose Spot Color. For color mode choose a method that will be used for displaying the color on screen and when converted to Process color.

  • Add web colors as swatches

I'm working in Freehand 11 and I would like to add a web
color (#b0d3d7) to my swatches palette. When I add it as an RGB
color, it is slightly off. And if I go to the paint bucket color in
my tools palette, it won't allow me to type in the 6-digit web
color. Is there something I'm missing? It seems like it would be
    pretty simple.

Yes, and if it seems "off" it's not because it is wrong it's
    just
because you are looking at FH's color managed or non-color
    managed
interpretation/version of that color. Illustrator would show
    you yet
another version. Move to another computer and you might see
    even
another version. There is not such thing as a "Correct"
    onscreen color.

  • How do I add PMS colors to swatches pallette

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add PMS colors to the swatches pallette? I'm running Win2000. Illustrator 10.
    Thanks.

    Terri Jo,
First off, each document has its own Swatches palette (also its own Symbol, Brush and Styles palettes.) So when you say "the" Swatches palette, it is not clear whether you are asking how to add Pantone colors to the Swatches palette belonging to the current document, or whether you are asking how to add Pantone colors to the Swatches palette that gets installed in new blank documents.
To do the former, you just open one of the Pantone Swatch libraries (from the Window menu), have a document open, and click on any Pantone swatch that you want to add to the Swatches palette of the current top open document. To add multiple swatches you can also shift-click to select a range of them, then use the Add to Swatches command on the library's palette menu.
To do the latter, you open as a regular document the Adobe Illustrator Startup_CMYK or Startup_RGB documents located in the Plug-ins folder. Then you do the same steps as above to copy swatches from the Pantone libraries to the startup document's Swatches palette. Then you save the startup document, and restart Illustrator.
The contents of all the palettes in the startup documents are copied into any new blank document that you create for that color mode. Since palette contents take up room in each file, just like regular art does, as long as you have the startup document open for editing you may want to take the opportunity to make your new files smaller, by removing from your startup documents any brushes, symbols or patterns that you never expect to use.
And finally, if what you want to do is set up a swatch library palette that contains your favorite Pantone colors, and which is available for
all documents, whether new blank ones or existing documents that were created earlier by yourself or even sent to you by someone else, what you should do is make a new blank document, install your favorite Pantone colors into it, and save that document with a name of your choice (like "Favorite PMS colors") in the Presets/Swatches folder. Then quit Illustrator, restart, open that document from the Swatch Libraries menu, and check the Persistent option in the library's palette menu. The Persistent option means that the library gets automatically loaded when you startup Illustrator. (Any random .ai document saved anywhere can be loaded as a library palette using the Other Library... command, but only documents that were located in the appropriate Presets folder when Illustrator was started will appear on the pullout menu and have a Persistent checkbox.)

Hi everybody, I wanna add a new submitbutton to page(xxxxPG.xml). There are some oracle buttons in the page. But, when I add a new submitbutton to page, it is looking like a windows button. What should I do? Thanks...

    Hi there,
Generally the attribute sets should work but not sure how you are attaching it dynamically. Please check the OA Fwk Guide page 134,135 and 171 to 175.
It might be some precedence over writing your settings, just create a submit button and assign the attribute set don't set anything else. See if it is rendered
properly as you want and then try to play around with it. Hope this helps.
