  • How do I add a network printer to a terminal server for one user?

I have a 2003 terminal server.  I also have a network printer accessible by IP.  I want one of the users on the TS to print to this printer.
If I log in as the user, all print options are greyed (access denied).  There's no 'users' icon in control panel to give the user admin access like I might do on a workstation.  This printer is not installed on a print server so even if he did
have access, doing so doesn't appear to be an option.  If I log in as Administrator I can add printers but it wants me to specify \\servername\printername and it's not set up that way.  It's just a network printer on an IP.  Also I'm not trying
to get RDP to map the printer locally for the user, he needs to be able to print from the terminal server to the network printer.  Any articles I can find assume the printer is either local to the user or on a print server of some kind.
    Is this possible and how?
    Thanks!

  • Trying to add a network printer. I downloaded and installed driver from manufacturer, but mac still reporting error

I need to install a printer on my Macbook Pro. I downloaded and installed the driver from the manufacturer, Brother MFC 7820N. Then clicked the plus on add printer from System Preferences. I selected the printer I want to add as a nearby printer and the name and location populated.
The printer widget tells me it is looking for software to install. I already installed the software. Then I get an error saying it can't find software on the apple support server. When I try to select software to install, the dialog box is empty, so I can't select the software I downloaded.

  • 2008 R2: Want to use GP to add a network printer for certain Computers

Hi all.  This is a single-domain 2008 R2 AD.  It's very basic.  All usrs are in the Users container in ADUC and all computrs are in the Computers container. However there are two classes of users which I'll indicate here as Level 1 and
Level 2 staff.  Level 1 staff are about 80% of all users, and these people share about 10 computers in a sort of shared computer room area.
I recently discovered that whne I log in as a user, and set their default printer, the next time I log in it just gets set back to the Microsoft XPS thingy.
either way, my goal here is to do two things:
    - set teh default printer on a per-computer basis if possible and not per user
    - set this printer to always use two-sided printing (a setting normally found under the printer's Printing Preferences > Finishing tab.
The printer in question is an HP with an embedded Jetdirect so it is an IP printer, not shared from someone's computer or anything like that.
So first, do I need to manipulate the Users or Computers in AD Users & Computers somehow so the settings only apply to certain items?  Or would I use that Filtering option for GPO editing?
Oh and also, I really do not want to get into login scripts, or any scripting at all.  I would much prefer Group Policy.
The server is 2008 R2 and the clients are Win 7 Professional (32 & 64bit mixed)
    Thank you.

    Hi,
If you are looking for ways to deploy printer per-computer, please read below link:
    http://the.geekorium.com.au/deploy-printers-with-group-policy-without-using-local-loopback/
And in addition, I think you can try to use loopback policy and GPP to deploy printer under user settings.

Yes, the name is valid. If I run just a direct PowerShell on my workstation it adds the printer with no issue but when I run the script on a remote computer that's when I get the error.

  • Add network printer?

i just got a linksys print server (wireless) and it configured without a hitch on my macbook pro, ibook and pc but how do you add a network printer in os 10.2.8?
    xelapond

10.2.8 has all the same options in Print Center - just arranged differently (some names are slightly different too). You're going to need to experiment a little - I don't have 10.2.8 handy to refer to.
To get more of the options to show at once, hold the Option key while clicking ADD, then select Advanced from the bottom of the menu.

  • Can't connect to Network Printer

I just bought a laptop with Vista.  I have  wireless router connected to a wired router.  My two desktops are conneted to the wired router and the laptop is wireless to the wireless router.
My printer does not have a wireless card, so I have it plugged to one desktop, and I have the other desktop using it as a network printer.
I can't seem to get the wireless to see the printer.  I have enabled file & print sharing on all computers, and the print spooler service is started on all computers.  When I do "Add a printer" it doesn't see the printer.  I tried doing "Add a network printer" and entering the name as \\computername\printername (where computername is the computer the printer is attached to), but I alternately get these two errors:
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. The server print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler on the server or restart the server machine" or
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Makes ure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to network."
I have not been able to see the desktop computer at all in the network options, but I do see the wired router listed, but no computers connected to the router.
Can anyone help with this?  I am at my wit's end.                     Dan

    Hello,
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2388142
    Might be the right hotfix!
I will be trying this hotfix this week. I have this problem SO bad right now. The only slight difference is that my print server is running Microsoft Storage Server
2003, and all my clients are now windows 7. The problem hits users at seemingly random times, random 5% of the company per day, and all printer pools...it made no sense at all!
I'll keep you posted as to whether the asyncronous RPC reg key helps, or if your hotfix does.
There is also something i found that works (for 48 hours straight anyways):
On vista/7 client, go to Devices and Printers and click Add Printer
Then choose Local Printer. I know your printer is shared on a print server, just stick with me here!!
Choose Create New Port and select Local Port...
When it asks you for a port name, type in the UNC ADDRESS of the printer (ie \\printserver1\HPLaser5000n).
When it asks you for a driver, point it to the right location where you downloaded a clean set of drivers matching your client OS and printer. Or press the Windows Update button.
finish adding the printer. You will notice the name of the printer doesn't have a "...on [printserver1"
anymore, BUT it will still print!!
I have done this for 4 printer pools and for the last 2 days the 1 user i set it up for has had no printing problems. May be total coincidence, but at this point i was willing to try anything. I'm not sure if this constitutes fooling windows 7 into setting
up a remote printer as a local printer, and i'm also doubting this will be deployable via GPO or script...but still, i hope it helps.

  • How to configure network printer on solaris 10 intel based

how to configure the network printer in solaris 10
    like hp laserjet printer/printers,

    Very very easy.
Go to the print manager . (printmgr I believe or in the launch menu under preferences)
    select add a network printer
Fill out the info. I find that the hpijs printer driver works better then the suggested foomatic on my hp 4000s. I could not print pdfs otherwise.
Other things to know is the protocol should be BSD (at least it works for me). And add the port to the destination so 192.168.0.1:9600 for example (for hp).
thats about it. To have it show up correctly in JDS you should probably add it to the printer list under the launch->preferences->printer preferences.

  • Installation error 0x00004005 when installing aHP 1220c network printer on a win 7 - 64 bit

I am attempting to install an HP 1220c printer on my new Win 7-64 laptop. The laptop finds the printer connected to a desktop XP computer automatically when I click "Add New Network Printer" but the installation fails with error 0x00004005. If I connect the printer via a USB cable directly to the new laptop, it installs OK.
After the USB install went OK, I replugged the printer into the XP desktop and tried again. I got the same error message even though the laptop found the printer on the desktop automatically.

    Hi Bob,
    Thank you for your reply.
Yes I have tried the CS5 Cleanup Tool - multiple times.  Doesn't help.
I am surprised to hear that you installed with no problems in light of Tech Support being adament that it won't work on Windows 7 and is not supported.
I told Tech that I didn't accept that as there are probably hundreds of thousands of users with CS3 who have installed or tried to install on a Win7 machine and not everyone has hundreds of dollars spare to upgrade.
I only really use DW, PS and Acrobat in the Suite so I'm going to have to save to buy those products but it won't be anytime soon.
    Thanks.

  • Problem with printing over the shared network printer

I have a very irritating problem.
To describe the situation. I have 2 computers and non of them is mine. First one have Windows Vista, and second one have Windows 8.1. There is also a printer which is connected with usb to the computer with Windows 8.1. I managed to share that printer on
the network, and when I connect to that printer and enter username and password (from Windows 8.1) on the pc that have Windows Vista, I can print without any problem.
The problem start when I restart the computer with Windows Vista. I can't print unless I connect to that printer again and again enter the username and password. Like Windows Vista for some reason is not storing those credentials. It is very irritating to
do that all the time, becase everything worked before like a charm.
Is there something I didn't do about those credentials, or is there some batch script that I could run in startup that will connect Windows Vista PC with that printer without any user input?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
When you restart the Vista, have you checked the credential in credential manager (Control Panel\Credential Manager)? Does it exist? You can clear cached unused credential and manually add the printer Windows Credential in the manager and check if it
    helps.
You can also use a logon script to add the printer automatically every time you logon to the PC, you can refer to thsi example, some content need to be changed depends on your configuration.

  • Need Help Adding Network Printer

I am trying to add a network printer on a Solaris (Sun OS 5.6) system. I am doing this using lpadmin as outlined in volume 2 of the system admin guide.
The printer appears on the system, but when I try sending a print job, I get the message 'Segmentation error - core dumped' and nothing prints on the printer.
I have added the printer to the etc/hosts and can ping it o.k.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

There is info missing from your post that I like to have when considering these issues, so here is what I'm assuming:
    You used the command:
    lpadmin -p printername -v /dev/null -m netstandard -o dest=printerhostname -I contentype -T printertype
(note: I like -m netstandard instead of
-i /usr/lib/lp/model/netstandard because I'm lazy! they mean and do the same.)
You have the latest version of patch 106235 for lp, which I believe is -09
This is perhaps not the first printer or first attempt at adding a printer on this host.
Possibly this machine was upgraded from a previous version of Solaris?
If you can find the core file (it may be where you issue the lp command or in the /var/spool/lp/tmp directory), you can use the adb command to at least extract the name of the binary that is coring:
    adb core
This could be several things that could require anything from a spool clean to an remove and reinstall of the print packages. Any more details you can provide? Perhaps the output of lpstat -p printername -l? Does this happen with any printer you create?

  • Lion OS x network/printer connection problem.

I am trying to connect a Macbook Pro, Lion OS x to a Canon MP530 printer on a wireless network. I already have another Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard OS x) set up to this wireless printer/network, and it works just fine. When I try to connect the Macbook Lion OS x, I get error messages stating "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Unable to communicate with the printer at this time." I thought it was a printer driver problem, so I downloaded the correct updated driver for the Canon MP530 from both the Apple and Canon websites to the Macbook Lion OS x. When I try to setup the Macbook Lion OS x on the printer/network again, the Macbook Lion OS x acts like it doesn't see it the updated driver when it gives the message stated above about "an error occurred........"
On the bright side, I am able to connect the Macbook Lion OS x to the wireless printer network via the Snow Leopard OS x by print file sharing just fine. The problem with this is that the Snow Leopard OS x Macbook has to be on. If this computer is not on, than the Lion Macbook will not be able to print.
Connecting the Macbook Lion OS x directly to the printer also works.
The Macbook Lion OS x on the network does not appear to "see" the updated Canon MP530 drivers. For some reason, the Macbook Lion will not communicate with the network printer, without going through the other laptop.  Is the Canon MP530 compatible with the Lion OS x operating system on a wireless network at all?
Is there a way to connect the Macbook Lion OS x to my network directly without having to go through the Snow Leopard OS x Macbook?
Resetting the printing system doesn't work either.

Understood. But I meant are you still able to install this Canon driver. With you trashing the BJPrinters folder previously, there should have been no Canon driver files on this Mac. And given that you have had no luck installing the Gutenprint driver I was wondering if you also had the same problem with installing the Canon driver. I am guessing that you were at least able to install the Canon driver, even though it won't let you print.
So with you not able to install the Gutenprint driver suite I would say that you have the following options.
    1. Continue printing via the Snow Leopard share. Not ideal but the cheapest solution at this stage.
    2. Download and install PrintFab (www.printfab.net). This also supports Canon printers but it costs 49 euro. But there is a 30 day trial so you could see if this will install and let you add the networked printer.
    3. Replace the 3rd party print server with an Airport Express. The Airport USB port will allow you to use the Canon supplied driver.
    4. Replace the MP530 with a new printer that has built-in wireless.

  • Airport express and network printer setup problem

I could not find and add my network printer in my work place only when network is connected via my airport express. I can see the printer when the network is connected by ethernet cable. Note: the printer I mentioned is not connected to the USB of the AE, it is a separate network printer with a true IP.
Is this a firewall problem in the airport express unit? I have the same problem with my ThinkPad too.

Have you tried putting the printer's IP address into the "add a printer" dialog box IP view of the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences?
It sounds like your AirPort Express is creating another subnet that is making it hard to access the printers subnet. You might try putting the AirPort Express into "bridge" mode.

  • [Solved] Adding Network Printer Arch+Openbox

I've Arch with openbox installed. I need to add the network printer so I can print stuff at my university without switching to windows (hate windows :S). I went to IT guys at my school and they gave me printer queue information and they have no clue how to install network printers on Linux. This is the instruction file they gave me:
To add printer support, from the console type "printtool". You have to be in X-windows to use this application, it does not run in the console.
Click on "Remote Unix (lpd) Queue".
    Names = $$$$
    Spool Directory = /var/spool/lpd/lp0
    Remote Host = $$$$
    Remote Queue = $$$$
Above instructions are for Red Hat Linux and I do not have printtool. I was reading about cups, lpd, lpr and but I'm confused, I do not want to setup network printer I just need to print documents from the network printer that has been already setup in my uni network. Any help would be appreciated.

    1) Your printer already has a cups server. Edit your client.conf and be happy.
    2) Your printer allows remote lpd and you want to print without cups. Use LPRng instead (install from AUR). Since most applications are preconfigured for CUPS this will be more work and you'll have to know what you are doing.
    3) Your printer allows remote lpd and/or some other protocol. Install and start the cups server, add the network printer and start printing. I already mentioned this in my previous post.
By the way, the wiki mentions this (except for the unsupported LPRng)
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CU … g_workflow
There are two ways to setup a printer.
    *   If there's a CUPS server running in your network and sharing a printer you only need to install the client package.
    *   If the printer is connected directly to your system or you have access to an IPP network printer then setup a local CUPS server.
