Add a new 4tb hdd to msi p45 platinum ?
I'm planning to add a new 4TB western digital, caviar green HDD's for my msi p45 platinum motherboard ist work will or use 3 tb .
thank you
Just some notes regarding large drives on the older chipset boards.
The P45 Plat has
• SATAII controller integrated in ICH10R/JMicron® 363 chipset
- Up to 3Gb/s transfer speed.
- Supports six SATAII ports by ICH10R
- Supports two SATAII ports by JMicron 363, support SATA RAID 0/1/JBOD.
In principle the ICH10R allows amongst Raid capability also the ability(potentially) to handle up to 2TB in AHCI.
What other users with similar boards have however commented on is that they were able to use up to 3TB drives on the JMicron controller, obviously with the latest firmware for that controller and also AHCI. We all know that the JMicron ports are a bit slower than the Intel ports, but that is evident with Asmedia as well.
So when you do test, check both your Intel and JMicron ports and see what they report as the drive capacity in the BIOS.

Msi p45 platinum power up problems
Hey guys, i have got a fairly new system i think its about 2 months old
e8400 e0
msi p45 platinum bios 1.71beta
4g kit 1066 kingston hyperx
palit 1g 4870
huntkey 650w psu
Okay so heres the deal, the computer was running at 3.6ghz, stable for the past 2 months.
I have tried 4ghz with almost every possible combination of volts, but it passed prime 95 for about 36 hours 1 day, and the next have a random reboot
I also noticed that my psu was making this weird whining noise so i just ordered and installed a pc power and cooling 750w.
To my happyness comp booted up at 4ghz and seemd stable enough for 2 hours. (just searching net and stuff) then boom, comp turns off.
okay so i thought maybe it wasnt stable. tried to reboot but to no avail. all i get is about half a second when my fans try to spin up but then it just cuts off again.
i have tested the usual out of box, 1 stick of mem, clear cmos with power cord removed, removed battery for 10 minutes but nothing. Also did the same with the old psu which was working.
All that happends is it trys to start, eg leds everywhere flicker and i mean flicker there is no way i can see what order. Im refering to the 8 leds down the bottom. the flick on then off.
After trying to start it up once, i wont get another chance to start it. eg i have to remove the power and wait till the power is completly gone from the system b4 i can try again and only have the same thing happen.
Thanks for your help guysSomething may have been damaged during overclocking. What voltages did you work on when you overclocked the system to ~4GHZ? What where your temperatures?

Next, I see that you are using a Beta BIOS, what's the reason behind it?
I suppose the reason is this:

MSI P45 Platinum and RAID 0!
System specs below! First of all this system is basically a gaming rig. I am running Vista 64 on one single Western digital hard drive, and using an identical drive for storage. I was thinking about setting up a RAID 0 array with these two drives. Can this be easily done with this mobo? I am just wondering if there are any quirks associated with the MSI P45 Platinum mobo that would make this a pain to set up. Anyone else running a RAID 0 with this mobo and having good results? Would it even be worth it?
I was told my several different people in the gaming community, that RAID 0 really speeds up map loading, which would be great. I would be backing up the array to another internal drive using True Image.
Any advice would be great!!Quote from: Jack t.N. on 20-May-09, 03:16:19
Only, if you set the controller to AHCI Mode (which would not really be a problem either). You probably won't need any additional drivers when the controller is working in IDE Mode.
If you have to install drivers, use the latest ones from the JMicron FTP Download Server:
ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/Win2k_xp_Vista/
Ok, well I won't have my new storage drive until Thursday. I will run HD tune on the drive connected to both different controllers and see what is the fastest.
I know we talked about this just a little. Still wondering about the RAID drives, or any drives attached to the ICH10R's SATA connections when it is set to RAID in the bios. The drives, including my SATA CD/RW drive does not show under "Standard CMOS features". Just #7 and #8 of the JMicron's show since they are still set to IDE in the bios.
You commented with:
"They are now Controlled by the ICH10R Firmware. Look here":
--> Integrated Peripherals --> On-Chip ATA Devices --> AHCI Devices Group
--> Integrated Peripherals --> On-Chip ATA Devices -->
Those locations are just where you set the RAID mode. There's no actual drives listed there. I do see a screen popup when booting my system with the two RAID drives saying "ok" and bootable. Plus I see them in the Matrix storage console. Is this normal then? There really is no place when you search through the bios that you can see them listed?? I can hit the Ctrl and I keys and go into the actual RAID bios, but I don't see my RAID drives listed in the actual bios.
Am I explaining this right?? Just wanting to make sure everything is working right. It sure seems to work well with bench marks. Here's a shot of my array with HD tune. I'm thinking that burst rate can't be right. -
Problems Powering up MSI P45 Platinum board
I've currently started a new build using the following equipment:
Coolermaster COSMOS 1000
MSI P45 Platinum
Intel Quad Q9550 Processor
2 x 2gb OCZ Memory
Sapphire ATI 4790 HD 1gb Graphics Card
PC Cooling 750W Silencer PSU
Wired everything up, connected all the connectors. When I go to power up the system, I get a Red LED 3 but no fans or anything spins up. Switched out for a known good power supply and received the same problem. Not sure where to go from here?Hi,
take the board out of the case to test it on a non-conducting surface in barebone configuration (CPU, one memory stick, video card, Keyboard and power connectors, nothing else). Make sure every kind of connection (front panel etc. to the case is removed).
Then clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU and try to power-Up the board. Try both of the following methods to power-up the system:
1. use the little red onboard-power-on-button (make sure you don't confuse it with the reset button)
2. shorten the two pins of the board's pin header that are usually hooked up to the case's power-on button with a screwdriver -

i'm sure the hole for the cmos clear button in the i/o shield is the problem. the button is pressed by the i/o shield and your pc won't start.
a well known problem.
I remember reading about this issue before I built my P45 Platinum system. I made sure during the build that the button was not being pressed by the i/o shield. -
MSI P45 Platinum will not power up...
Hi ppl
I have just built a new PC with the following specs
Motheboard: MSI P45 Platinum
Processor: Intel Quad Core Q6600
Graphics: Asus ATi Radeon HD 3450 256MB PCI-E
Ram: OCZ 2GB DDR2
and
x1 DVD R/W
I have put all the component together - but coming to power it up it does not power up at all....
although LED 3 (Which I've read is Power) lights up red? should this be green?
I dont know
The power supply I am using is ...
PC Power & Cooling SILENCER 500 EPS12V
which has been tested with a asus p45 deluxe mb and it all workS!
all suggestions welcome ....
Thank you so muchit up it does not power up at all....
Take the board out of the case to test it on a non-conducting surface in barebone configuration:
- CPU (reseat CPU & heatsink)
- one memory stick in first memory slot (try each stick seperately)
- video card
- keyboard
- power connectors (24-Pin ATX, 4/8 Pin +12V CPU, 4-Pin PCIe MOLEX, 6/8-Pin +12V PCIe (video card)
Do not connect:
- hard drives
- optical drives
- case front panel connectors for reset, power-on, LED, USB, Firewire etc.
Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU after hardware changes and then try to start the system using one of the following methods (test each):
1) use the red onboard power-on button
2) short the two pins that the power-on button of your case usually connects to with a screwdriver -
Q6600 & MSI P45 Platinum...
hi guys,
my pc specs...
CPU - Quad 6600 @ 2.4Ghz G0 Stepping
MB - MSI P45 Platinum with Zalman Cooler BIOS V 1.5
RAM - 2x2GB Team Extreem Performance DDR2 1066Mhz 5-5-5-15
VGA - Gigabyte 9600GT 1GB DDR3 PCI-E
HDD - WD 640GB SATA
PSU - Silverstone 450W
DVD - Samsung Sata DVD-RW
OS - Vista SP1
** 5 Xigmatex Fans connected to MB sockets (SYS FANS) **
currently i'm running @ 266*9 = 2.4Ghz n my fsb/dram ratio is 1:2. the thing is wen i set my FSB to 400 , fsb/dram ratio is changed to get 1064Mhz for my rams thou, (CPU stil runs @ 400*6=2.4Ghz), i c my NBB Voltage is marked in RED color in d core center software.
the thing is i'm not sure wat is d safe voltage to set it in BIOS to as i'm afraid i might fry d board. PC parts over here are freakin expensive. All settings in BIOS is set to AUTO as i didn't OC my Q6600. Except my ram timings in BIOS is set to 5-5-5-15 (others all auto). so guys, please help me out here. i'm sorry if tis question is lame or a repeat post. i've been checkin around for months but just cant seem to get an asnwer. once again, thanks for all d help guys...If all voltages are set to auto and everything's running without an issue you don't need to change any voltage setting because the auto settings are safe. Forget about core center software as it is quite crappy. What does your HW monitor in bios report for nbb voltage?

Overclock an E8400 in a MSI P45 Platinum
Specs:
CPU: Core2Duo E8400 E0 @ 3.0Ghz
Memory: 2GB OCZ DDR2-1066 (Dual Channel) @ 5-5-5-18-2T
Motherboard: MSI P45 Platinum
PSU: 750w Antec TruePower (4)12v Rails @ 25Amps each, two rails dedicated to GPU and other two rails to HDD's/DVD Drives
CPU Heatsink: Zalman CNPS9500 w/ Arctic Silver
The reason for the post here is because I can't seem to overclock my CPU with very much grace without running into BSOD's/Lockups/Reboots and whatnot...I'm even having some issues right now where I have to run the RAM at 1:1 or 1:1.2 (667Mhz or 800Mhz depending)
I guess the other issue I'm having is I have no idea what half of these settings are even referring to and I really hate to admit that...:(
Anyway I was hoping there was someone here with a similar setup that might be able to shed some light as to what I might be doing wrong...tried tweaking the dozen voltage options and whatnot without much success and very poorly describe items such as "Drive Setting 1/2/3/ETC...What is your current BIOS Version?
Please post a list of the Cell Menu Settings that you have used to far when you attempted to overclock your system.
For a quick test:
-> remove the two OC Jumpers from there pin headers (this will force the FSB Clock Speed to 400 MHz), clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU after that and see if the system will start-up properly. -
Problem with MSI P45 Platinum DDR2 mainboard and Corsair Dominator PC8500C5D Ram
Hi, I have encountered with a problem.
First I had
MSI p45 platinum ddr2 bios ver. 1,4
Intel E8400
Corsair Dominator PC8500C5D 2x1Gb
2 Asus ATI EAH 3870 Crossfire
and it was running with windows XP without any problems.
Problems began when I decided to upgrade to 6Gb of ram and to install Vista 64. Ram modules witch I bought are the same Corsair Dominator PC8500C5D, but 2x2GB.
When i put them together adjust voltage 2.1v and timing 5-5-5-15 they fail mem test with huge amount of errors.
when I test only 2x2gb modules memtest sometimes doesn't open at all, sometimes just stops working on 8 minutes of test. couple of times they completed memtest without any errors.
Can someone advice what should I do and what could the problem?
Thank you for your answers.Quote from: obsessed on 15-October-08, 18:20:44

1) the modules are not the same (the DDR2 chips are different)
2) as general rule, mixing 2x1GB with 2x2GB is a bad idea.

Overclocking Q6600 with MSI P45 Platinum
Hi again!
I need some advice regarding my OC settings.
Unfortunately, im an unlucky owner of the infamous Q6600 L8XX batch which has a high VID (1.3250v)
Anyway, I was able to reach 3GHz stable with these settings:

My goal is set at 3GHz and to get a lower cpu voltage (lower than my current 1.3175v), but anything below 1.3175v restarts when i stress test using OCCT. I've run memtest and it's ok. Can anybody advise which voltage I can configure to lower my cpu voltage? Also, is 333 x 9 to achieve 3GHz better? Or should I go with 375 x 8? Thanks! Btw, I plan to maintain these settings for the remainder of my CPU's life.. :Dthanks for the tip. i'm currently logging all my OC settings in an excel file. i just finished played an hour of COD4 without any restarts or instability. currently my settings are just the same except CPU voltage is at 1.344v and i reduced my Dram voltage to 2.0v. running memtest for over an hour, 2 passes already with no errors. i'll stress test it over the weekend.
i have a question though. a lot of people are suggesting a 1:1 FSB/DRAM ratio. but using 333x9 settings @ 1:1, you get 667.. i'm using 2x 2GB GeiL PC6400 800, that's why i used the 1:1.2 FSB/DRAM ratio to get 800. is it ok to keep using the 1:1.2 FSB/DRAM ratio even though people say 1:1 is the ideal ratio? many thanks for the reply -
About TPM module MSI P45 platinum
Hello.
I need some information about this function, supported in MSI P45 Platinum - TPM module. Where can i buy such thing, and eventually prices for it.
Thanx in advance!TPM is nothing MSI Specific. Please read this article first:

I just got done reading the guide on tweaking VTT/GTL which helped me get a better grasp about the awesome settings the P45 have.
Anyway I have a bit of a dillema, I can't seem to get 4.0Ghz without cranking my settings up to this:
Vcore = 1.525v (This will fry it eventually)
CPU GTL REF0 = AUTO (For now)
CPU GTL REF1 = AUTO (For now)
DRAM Voltage = 2.100v (Manu specs)
DDR_VREF_A = AUTO (For now)
DDR_VREF_B = AUTO (For now)
MCH Voltage (Is this the Southbridge?) = 1.556v (I have no idea what to set this to, I just cranked it up as high as it would go)
MCH GTL REF = AUTO
VTT FSB Voltage = 1.60v (What the hell is VTT?)
ICH Voltage (Is this the Northbridge??) = 2.12v
The problem with this is I'm going to cook my system...the funny thing is I can remove the jumpers and run my CPU at 3.6Ghz and all stock voltages without a single problem - however going even 1Mhz above this requires me to crank the hell out of this system.
Anyone here have any settings they use for this board w/ an E8400? I'm kind of out of ideas at this point.
Specs:
MSI P45 Platinum
Intel E8400 Core2Duo @ 3.0Ghz
OCZ OC RAM DDR2-1066 @ 5-5-5-15-2T and 2.1v

...the funny thing is I can remove the jumpers and run my CPU at 3.6Ghz and all stock voltages without a single problem
Thats a good starting point. Set BIOS to default and then ensure your memory is at DDR2-800 at ~1,9V.
From there start increasing your FSB. I think you will have a better chance at what you are trying to achieve with a lower memory frequency. See how far you can go that way without changing any other voltages, but always check your V Core under load as you increase the frequency.
I have had my proc at up to 3,7GHZ (board jumpers removed) all other BIOS settings being stock/auto, but I manually kept my DDR at 800.
My core Voltage will rise to 1,296 under full load at that freq, which is still below the Intel spec max of 1,3625 "Table 2-3. Voltage and Current Specifications in the Intel spec sheet". So I know there is room for more. My CPU core temps will be between 55 and 60C depending on the auto speed-up of the cooler, which I must say is very effective.
Running some real world tests though, i.e. 3D gaming, I found that the increase above the 3,4GHz I am running now, is hardly worth the additional heat and obvious associated higher voltages. My chipset especially heats up to about 55C and I need to take the passive cooling off at some stage to check the MSI factory paste. -
Msi p45 platinum - freezes after power save turns off displays
Just put this computer together, everything is stock, no overclocking. Seems to run fine, played a few hours of modern warfare 2 with no issues.
I noticed It seems to freeze after the monitor gets turned off by the power save mode. I just tested this by setting it to turn off displays after 1 minute of inactivity, waited watched the monitor turn off, then I went to the move the mouse and the screen came back on but the cursor would not move. sometimes the screen will not even come back on.
I have turned the computer on, left the room while it was booting to eat breakfast or take a shower, came back the screen was still on but the computer was frozen. Window 7 login screen was up, but there were some graphic glitches. this has happened a couple of times.
If I manually put the computer to sleep it seems to come back properly.

MSI P45 Platinum and Scythe Ninja 2
Hi all,
I'm a rookie here and sorry if this question has already been asked but search didn't give solution. I'm planning to buy an MSI P45 Platinum and found Circu-Pipe 2 interesting. They said it leaves enough space for "giant CPU heatsinks". Scythe's Ninja 2 seems to be a giant one... Cause I will purchase them via net, I cannot try them manually in a shop. Does anyone (or friend...) have the same or similar Circu-Pipe-d mainboard with a Ninja 2? Will them work together?
Thanks in advance!
