Add a second mailbox server

Hi,
Management has asked us to look into the possibility of separating all executive mailboxes from the current Exchange server for some unknown reason. We are currently running Exchange 2010 Standard with latest service packs and roll-ups on a 2008 R2 server
and are currently utilizing all the mail stores available to us.
We are looking at maybe separating out the the mailboxes and building a second mailbox store server to do this. Question one, can this be done. In theory, all email would still be router through our transport server and we would still have access to it.
Does anyone have another alternative solution?
Thanks,

Hi,
To separate mailboxes, we can create multiple databases and move special mailboxes into the new databases.
For more information about database creation, you can refer to the following article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd335229(v=exchg.141).aspx
Here is a reference about move mailboxes:

If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks,

  • How to add a second DNS server entry

Our primary DNS server is having problems (internal system) - we want to keep its listing on our mac server however. We need to add a second DNS server - we don't care what it is, we might want to add 2 additional servers - one internal and one external (google dns for example).
How do we do this through server admin? Thank you.

Solved. Added entreis in DNS section of Server Admin. Adjusted DNS entry in network section of system prefs to reflect loopback address. Stopped and restarted DNS. Thanks.

  • Need to add a second weblogic server for high availability

I have a weblogic 10.3.3 server with forms and reports 11.1.1.3.
I have an adminServer, WLS_FORMS and WLS_REPORTS managed servers setup.
This was setup with the wizard, so the WLS_FORMS is in the cluster_forms cluster group and WLS_REPORTS in the cluster_reports group.
I now need to add a second server with forms and reports also to act as one big server and provide high availability and load balancing.
How do I achieve thsi, is there a wizard that will do this?
The two servers are setup in exactly the same way, with the same versions of Weblogic and Forms and Reports.
    Thanks in advance.

I do not know "reports 11.1.1.3" application, but from your description this application is already targeted on a clustered configuration.
So it should be sufficient to add 2 new instances in the WebLogic domain "WLS_FORMS_2", "WLS_REPORTS_2", include them into the existing clusters and add a load balancer (like apache + wleblogic-plugin) that will balance requests on instances.
I never heard of wizards to create such clustered environments. However it is not hard to do:
1- Install binaries on the new machine
2- Create the domain configuration directory on the new machine using config.sh wizard in the same way you have aleady done with the first machine.
In this step you can create a clone of the existing domain, but it is enough to create a domain with the same name and the same admin instance.
Instead of using config.sh, you can also copy the domain directory from the existing machine and change diretories in scripts if needed.
The domain configuration is needed only to find the binaries, the basic domain files common to all installations, and to allow startup scripts (see point 4-) to connect to the admin and download the domain/instance configuration.
3- Configure the new instances on the existing WebLogic console
4- Create startup scripts for "WLS_FORMS_2", "WLS_REPORTS_2" on the second machine

  • How to Remove a bad mailbox server and add new mailbox server to DAG and copy mailboxes over

    DAG
    2- cas - VM
    2- mbx- physical blade  (mbx1, mbx2)
    5- mailbox databases
    OS: Win 2008 SP2
    Exchange 2010SP3
    Storage: Tegile Disk jbod  Luns
We have bad disks on mbx1.  our plan is to get a new blade to replace the bad one named mbx3. we need to do this asap since we are running on 1 server without failover capability
    How can I safely:
    1. Add a new mailbox server to the DAG
    2. Copy\Move the databases from the old (passive) server to the new server
    3. Remove the bad mailbox server from DAG

You'll want to make sure that the new server is on all the same networks that the server you are removing is on, specifically networks that are DAG networks. Also, you'll want to avoid using Windows Network Load Balancing on the new mailbox server
since it will be part of the DAG. Also, just as you did with the current DAG members, ensure that the disk drive letters match the existing disks that hold databases & logs. Other than that, it's as simple as you have stated.
1.) Once you have the new mbx server built & configured with the mailbox role, you can use:
Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup "Name of DAG" | Add-DatabaseAvailabilityGroupServer "Name of New MBX Server"
2.) Add the databases to the new DAG member:
Add-MailboxDatabaseCopy "name of database" -MailboxServer "name of new DAG member" -ActivationPreference "[you decide based on the server replacing mbx1]"
3.) Once your databases are Mounted and/or Healthy on the new DAG member, you'll want to remove the databases from the "bad" server (make sure they are all passive on the server first):
    Get-MailboxDatabaseCopy "SERVER\Database" | Remove-MailboxDatabaseCopy
4.) Once all of the databases are removed from the "bad" DAG member, remove him from the DAG:
Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup "Name of DAG" | Remove-DatabaseAvailabilityGroupServer "Name of old MBX Server"
Before you pull the blade, uninstall Exchange Server gracefully, as this will save you AD & Exchange headaches later on.

  • E2010 - steps to replace physical mailbox server role

We have two virtual CAS, two virtual Hub and one physical MBX role, no DAGs, CAS & Hub are on a hardware load balancer, all are in the same site. The MBX server is coming off lease soon and I'm wondering what the best procedure is to setup the replacement
server, import any customizations which may be on the current MBX role, etc and decomission the old server. Prefer to keep the same IP & name if feasible.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Do you mean you want to create a virtual Mailbox server which replace the physical mailbox server role? If so, you can add a virtual Mailbox server in a existing domain, and then move mailbox to new mailbox server. Besides, you also change the RPCClientAccessServer
Attribute (CAS array FQDN) on new Mailbox Databases.
Because you deploy CAS NLB, the outlook client still connect to CAS NLB.
Besides, you need use difffernet IP address and name when you create a virtual Mailbox server.

  • Fail to add Mailbox server to DAG

    I'm Setting up Exchange Server 2013 Mailing system, the schema that i'm deploying includes two CAS servers : 3S-CAS1 and 3S-CAS2 for load balancing access authentication;
and two mailbox servers 3S-MBX1 and 3S-MBX2. A File share server 3S-FW is used as a witness for the DAG . the Exchange Trusted Subsystems AD Group is added as member ofthe File witness  local administrators. A computer account EDAG is created on AD and
    then disabled as recommended.
my Network configuration is the following :
    3S-CAS1 : 172.16.192.7
    3S-CAS2 : 172.16.192.8
    3S-MBX1: 172.16.192.9 (prod trafic)
                        10.0.0.1 (replication interface)
    3S-MBX2: 172.16.192.10 (prod interface)
                        10.0.0.2 (replication interface)
    EGAG : 172.16.192.20
the issue is when i try to create a DAG (Database Availability Group) i'm getting the following error message
    <small>[PS] C:\Windows\system32>New-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup -Name EDAG -WitnessServer 3S-FW -WitnessDirectory c:\shares\fws_dag -DatabaseAvailabilityGroupIpAddresses 172.16.192.20

After that i'm giving up using witness server since creating a DAG without specifying a witness server would elect one from CAS servers that do not contain the mailbox role.

    Hi,
Please check if cluster name object (CNO) setting is correct. Make sure you have pre-staged the CNO object if you are running Windows Server 2012 for the DAG members. When you add the first node to DAG, you should assign Full Control permissions to the CNO.
For more details about this, you can refer to the following article.
Pre-Stage the Cluster Name Object for a Database Availability Group

  • Mailbox Server Crashed, can I use ActiveSync mail on Ipad to "recover" email

I had an Exchange 2010 server (only one), running all services have a hard crash with no backup. I was lucky that 2 days earlier setup a second AD controller, and second Exchange server in the environment.  There were no backups of the original server
(I DON'T HAVE ANY MDB FILES). I was able to get most users email back, by exporting OST to PST, then re-importing the PST file. I have 4 users who never used Outlook, only OWA. They have all their email on Ipad's. I have changed their passwords so the IPad
are not connecting to the new mail server. I need to find a way to get the email on the IPads back to the new mail server. I am afraid that if I just let ActiveSync connect, it will delete all the email on the IPad, since it is no longer on the mail server.
No mailboxes were actually deleted from the crash.  I was able to re-home them to the new Exchange server, I don't know if that make any difference.
    Thanks.

There are no official MS Office apps for the iPad.
Luckily, Apple has built a lot of the functionality into iOS5.
Go to Settings >> Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Near the top, hit Add Account.
    Select Exchange.
Fill in the details. You may need to ask your IT guys for the details if you don't know all of them.
You can use the standard Mail, Contacts and Calendar apps for those items. Tasks is handles by the Reminders app.
As James said, the functionality is more limited than the full desktop apps, but you can perform probably 80-90% of common tasks fairly easily.

  • Proper way to install windows update on Exchange 2010 DAG with one mailbox server in Head Office and 1 mailbox server in DR site both are members of 1 DAG

    Hi Guyz,
I have this setup in my exchange environment.
    1 DAG with 2 members
    - One member is located in Head Office and the other member is located in DR site. All of the mailbox databases are located only in HO (Plan to add additional second member in HO soon). Now what is the proper way to install windows patches on the
member in HO? I don't want to move the databases to DR site as much as possible.
Appreciate your feedback and Many thanks in advance guyz..
    More power to all!
    Regards,

    Hi,
To update the DAG members with new patches, the update process should be managed to prevent all of the DAG members from being offline at the same time.
To do this, I recommend you move the active mailbox databases off a particular server so that it can be patched, and if necessary rebooted, without causing any downtime for mailbox users on that database.
For detailed steps, here is an article for your reference.

  • What is an exchange and how do I find the password in order to add a second iPad to my accunt by restoring from the icloud??

What is an exchange?  I am trying to add a second iPad to my account by restoring/synching from the icloud.  It asks for my exchange password but we do not know what that is.

If you are referring to the service listed in the Mail, Calendars and Contacts area, that refers to Microsoft Exchange, a server system they sell for email, calendaring and address book. If you have such a service, your company will tell you.
Exchange has nothing to do with iCloud, though, so you should not be attempting to set up an Exchange account in your iPad to get synchronization with iCloud. Here's how you set up iCloud on your iPad:

  • I have another issue. Everytime I add a new mailbox , I get an error message in owa 2010 that it cannot access the mailbox

I go into the 2008 r2 dc and add a user. The 2003 dc has all of the fsmo roles. Then I go into the exchange server and add the new mailbox through the GUI. It runs the cmdlet and creates the new mailbox without any errors. Then I go in and try to access
the mailbox through owa and cannot access the mailbox. It says the mailbox does not exist. Both my 2003 dc(which I want to decommission) and 2008 servers are replicating. I see the user object on both servers. I have the email server pointed to the 2003 dns
server as my preferred dns. This just started happenning a couple of days ago. I dont know if a windows update caused this but everything was fine before Wednesday. All of the other users can access their mailboxes through owa just any new ones I created cannot.
In fact when I send a test email to the new account, I immediately get a bounce back so I dont think I would be able to access the new mailbox through outlook.
    visualbasicfrustrated

    Hello,
I recommend you check your exchange server using windows server 2003 DC or windows server 2008 DC.
Please use repadmin /showrepl command to check DC replication status.
Please check if there is related error in application log.

  • How to add a second hard drive

I want to add a second hard drive, mainly because my server hosts a photo gallery and I would like to store those photos on a separate drive.  What is entailed in adding this second drive?
    -Thanks

Firstly, find if you want SATA or IDE.  Then make sure you have a free hole on the mobo for the drive, and spare in the case for it.  Then make sure your PSU can power it.  Then decide how much space you want and how much you want to pay.  Then buy, screw it in, and connect the ribbon cable and power cable.  Then boot, and it should come up in /dev.  Then partition, and make a filesystem, then mount.  Easy

  • How do I add a second email address in my email account with Shaw cable

How do I add a second email address in my email account with Shaw cable. It is already set up with Shaw but how do I add it to my incoming email

If you are using Apple's Mail setup is: Mail>Preferences>Accounts tab, click the + sign to add an account. You'll need the email account name and password to input on the first screen. Mail should then attempt auto-setup but if it can't do it you'll need to manually add the mail server info, etc.

  • Decommission Exchange 2007 Mailbox Server from Cluster

Hi! I realize this is an Exchange 2013 forum, however as I do not see any forums for older flavors of Exchange I'm going to post this here. If a better forum exists please let me know and I'll happily move to that forum for my answers.
I am just finishing a migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  In the Exchange 2007 environment I have 2 CCR Mailbox Clusters.  While working to decommission the first of the two clusters I successfully evicted the passive node, however
I mistakenly evicted the active node rather than removing it by running the Exchange Setup Wizard as outlined in the TechNet article "How to Remove the Active Mailbox Role from a CCR Environment".
Now, when attempting to uninstall Exchange 2007 using the Setup Wizard in Add/Remove Program I get the following error during the prerequisite check for the 'Mailbox Role':
    Error:
Exchange server FQDN was not found. Please make sure you have typed it correctly."
    Setup then completes.
Is there a way to cleanly uninstall Exchange 2007 and clean-up Active Directory?
    Thanks!

    Hi Jesse,
    Thank you for your question.
We could run “ADsiedit.msc” in run, then navigate
    Configuration [<domainController>.contoso.com]> CN=Configuration,DC=contoso,DC=com> CN=Services> CN=Microsoft Exchange> CN=<OrganizationName> CN=Administrative Group> CN=Exchange Administrative Group>CN=Server
We could check if mailbox server is existed in this container, we could remove it.
Notice: Before we remove it, we could make a backup for AD database. We suggest you call MS engineer for help.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,

  • Exchange Server 2013 - AntiSpam Agents on Mailbox Server

I'm interested in blocking additional spam messages coming through by use of the antispamagents.ps1 on my mailbox servers. Our current setup is the following:
Internet> 3rd party email filter> Exchange Mailbox server
My question is, if I turn on the antispamagents.ps1 and add spamhaus as a blocklist provider, will it block based on blacklisted IPs?  My concern is that it won't do anything because it's not the next hop from the Internet.
Our current 3rd party email filter isn't really doing a good job.  I've analyzed the headers and the sending IP is confirmed as blacklisted according to SpamHaus Zen.
    Thanks in advance!

If you only have 1 Exchange server, then I assume you do not have a Edge transport server in your environment. The Edge role is the only role that has the Connection Filtering agent which is the agent that allows for RBL/DNSBL. So you might be out of luck
anyway. But to answer your question, Exchange will only see the IP of your 3rd party filter.
Or you can try a new 3rd party filter

  • Send As Permissions for Second Mailbox

We have a second mailbox set up which is our "Support" mailbox.
The problem is when we reply to an email in this mailbox it automatically populates the 'From' field with the 'Support' address and we have to manually change it to our own address.
I've tried setting deny Send As permissions on the support mailbox but for some reason we're still able to send? I thought an explicit deny overrules any other permissions set?
I don't want any of my users to be able to Send As, or Send on Behalf of the support mailbox.
We're operating off an Exchange 2007 server with a 2008 DC.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you,

First, of all if you dont want them to, remove those permission which seems like you have done.
Create a new OLK profile or repair and test again
    Test with an online profile.
Download the OAB if being used via OLK.
