Add an audio book to ipod

I have purchased some audio books.  I can play the discs that play the book in iTunes.  Can I then transfer them to an ipod?  I have never had an ipod and am quite computer illiterate.

Yes, you can.
Presumably, the tracks (for this book) are currently in the Music section of your iTunes Library. Select all the tracks on this audiobook and click on Menu icon at the top left of the window and select Get Info/Options>Media Kind or, if you have the Menu bar displayed, select File/Get Info/Options>Media Kind and change it to to Audiobook.
The tracks will now move into the Books section of the Library, so if you don't already have Books displayed (as in the first screenshot above), click on the Menu icon and choose Preferences (or Edit/Preferences) and on the General/Sources tab, turn on Books.
Your tracks should be under Books. Check each track to make sure the "track number of total tracks" information is included. If it isn't, type it in yourself. This will help keep the tracks in the correct order when being played on an iPod.
Now use your usual method of transferring media to your iPod (by far the best way is to use Sync). With your iPod connected to iTunes, look on the Device/Audiobooks pane and make sure Sync Audiobooks is on. (Ignore the fact that my screenshot shows 0 Audiobooks)
You may need to do one more Sync for the above setting change to take effect.
Finally, on your iPod Classic (which, since you have posted in the iPod Classic forum, I assume you are using), you may need to go into the Settings menu and turn on (put a tick) Audiobooks so that Audiobooks is listed in either the Main or Music menus (according to your choices).
That's it.

  • What do I do to download an audio book to ipod nano

What do I do to download an audio book to ipod nano?

If you are currently using automatic syncing for the other media types, such as songs, you need to go to iPod's Books tab.
First, if you are using the latest version of iTunes, it may hide the sidebar.  To show the sidebar, go up to the menu bar, and under View, select Show Sidebar.
Select the iPod in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, there is a row of "tabs" that starts with Summary.  One of those tabs is Books (if you currently have audiobooks in your iTunes library).  On the Books tab, set it to Sync Audiobooks, and choose to sync All audiobooks or Selected audiobooks.  If you choose the latter, checkmark the audiobooks you want to sync below.  Apply the change.
If you use the manual method (not automatic syncing) to load songs, by dragging songs from the iTunes library to the iPod in the sidebar, you can do the same with audiobooks.  Find them under Books in the iTunes library, and drag the ones you want to the iPod in the sidebar.

  • How do I add Audible audio books to my library

I am about to throw this Mac computer into the trash.  Can someone please tell me how to get this mac to add Audible audio books to the Itunes library, so that I can sync (another matter) to iphone and ipad?

I've found that iTunes no longer allows Audible files to be added to the iTunes library.
I'm on a Mac (OSx 10.9), and am running the latest version of iTunes (11.1.5).
First of all, there's no longer a "Books" category in iTunes, but there is an "Audiobooks" category.  My preferences are set to show that category.
When I first tried to add my Audible books to iTunes, I had no audiobooks in my library.  What showed when I was in the Audiobooks view was a sort of welcome, you have no audiobooks, page with a button to download audiobooks from the App Store.
I tried importing my Audible books via drap and drop and File-> Add to Library.  I was able to select the files, but the Audiobooks welcome view didn't change.
I thought perhaps iTunes had a bug (or design) to only show the list of files when there was an App Store-purchased audiobook.  So I bought an audiobook from iTunes.  I was now able to see this audiobook, and proceeded to add my Audible file to the iTunes library as well.  The Audible books again did not show up in my audiobook library.
Similarly, I've tried opening the .aa Audible file directly from Finder.  It launches iTunes, but nothing happens.
There was another post about iTunes Match causing an issue, but I'm not subscribed to iTunes Match. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3875987
So I'm out of ideas, and pretty fed up.  Does anyone have a new way to fix this?  Jimzgoldfinch method is not working.  Books are .aa files

  • Audio Books and ipods

    Hello All
Recently my wife has lost some vision in her eyes and can no longer find it easy to read books. My idea is to buy an ipod (no idea which) and download the cd audio book onto the ipod so she can listen.
    Q. Will whole cd audio books fit on an ipod ???????
Hope you can help me choose which model I need because I have no idea at all.
    Thanks
    Stuart
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Depending on the format and size of the book it should have no problems fitting on any of the iPods.
A lot of my audiobooks are less than 1 gb and are in apple m4b protected format.
I suggest you let her look at the screens of some of the available iPods and see which she is more comfortable with.
The nano screen is small but not hard to read and it will hold a few books depending on the size you get.
A shuffle works good because it is so simple. Problem is some of the books may need to be broken in two which is usual in a lot of cases any way. I normally load one book on it and that makes it very easy to use. You just have to add books when she finishes them.
One thing to remember is to join files when you import the cds into iTunes. I forgot to on Harry Potter and ended up with a jillion 1 minute tracks.

  • Can I play on audio book on iPod shuffle?

How do I download an audio book to my shuffle?  Can I?

    Hello there Tony,
Here is an article outlining how to add, and listen to Audio Books and Podcasts to the iPod Shuffle.
iPod shuffle: Playing audiobooks and podcasts
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1831
Adding Audiobooks and Podcasts to iPod shuffle
The Autofill feature of iTunes will not add audiobooks and podcasts to any iPod model. They can be manually added by dragging them to the iPod shuffle in iTunes.
For iPod shuffle (3rd generation), you must enable Manually manage music in the Summary tab to drag songs to iPod shuffle. Additionally, you can automatically sync audiobooks using the Music tab and sync podcasts using thePodcasts tab in iTunes.
    All the best,
    Sterling

Your best bet would be to contact OverDrive to see what they allow for conversion. Looking at their website, they state they provide products which are compatible with itunes.

  • When listening to an audio book the ipod nano (6th generation) keeps turning off?

Help!  I just purchased an ipod nano (6th generation) for the sole purpose of listening to audio books.  When I start a book about 20 seconds into it the screen goes dark and  the ipod stops...then I have to turn the on/off switch on to begin the book again.  I'm sure it has something to do with the settings, but I cannot locate the information I need in the ipod manual.  Any help anyone can give me would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I saw your other post, but thought I would reply here as well. It is all about getting that headset seated all the way. If you can see any silver of the plug, it is not in far enough. Push harder. If it just won't go in, look in there to see if it is blocked. The bottom of the headset port is white, so if it appears all dark at the bottom... something is in there.

  • When adding audio books to ipod either manually or by syncing, the tracks seem to be in the right order but they play back in a random order which means you can't listen to the book. How do you overcome this? (Bill)

I have tried adding audio books to my ipod classic, both by syncing and manually. The tracks come up in the right order in the menu but when listening they will often play (not always) in a random order. How do I overcome this, as it is making listening to books impossible.  (Tarraganda)

I have found the problem myself when I got into the Settings. Somehow it had been put onto shuffle all music files and once I turned that off it reverted to normal. I realised something basic was wrong when our other ipod that had been synced at the same time didn't have a problem. However, I had put all the books on manually, one album at a time as problems occurred when syncing the whole library, including multiple albums for the same piece of music.

  • Audio book on ipod out of order

I've borrowed audio books from the library and ripped them into itunes. If I burn them to a CD with Nero, they're all in the right order. If I import them to my Itunes library and then to a Playlist for my Ipod Touch, they're all out of order. I know how to arrange playlists, but we're talking 250 tracks for every book here.

Make a playlist, then hit the tab at the top to put them in order.

  • How to listen to audio books on ipod touch, how to listen to audio books on ipod touch

I have an ipod touch 32gb.  I just downloaded a sample of an audio book to listen to.
However, I can't for the life of me get the audio to work.
It just shows the book in print form.
It is an audio book, I verified that.
    Help would be appreciated!

Actually, this is my first time exploring books of any type via itunes.
I've been only a music girl...
The book in question: The Ultimate Happiness Prescription by Deepak Chopra. It is listed under Audio Books.
I clicked the sample and it sent to my ipod touch.
I see the book under the book APP, but it's in print form only.
Obviously, I am a dumb bell when it comes to books!  Maybe I'll stick with music!

  • TS1362 Audio book speed ipod

When an audio book downloads to my computer the sound levels and speed of narration is brilliant, however when I then download to my ipod, the speed of the narration goes double quick time.  How can I resolve this please?

    hello,
if you want to have your audio book shown in the audio book section of your ipod, firstly need to know what an audio book in itunes is. if you load down the audio book from the itms, it's automaticly in the right file type. this file type is either called .m4b (from itms) or .aa (from audible.com). all what you need to do is renaming the ends of the file names from m4a to m4b. if you'll copy it now on the ipod it will be shown in the audiobook folder. but there will be ALL the titles of the audiobook. if you load down an audiobook from the itms, it's just one long title. so you need to kit all the titles together. myself i'm making that with the lil program MediaJoin, which you just can look for in google.com. there you can kit all the audio files to one big file. the ipod supports the bookmark function, what means, if you hear your audio book, then you hear music and you later wanna hear the audiobook at the self part of it, the ipod goes automaticly to this part.
I'm sorry for my bad english, I am a german pupil... but i hope i could help you

  • Audio books on iPod g6

I have set up two of my audio books which I down loaded from cd's. In iTunes I converted them to audio books and set it up to remember where I left.
My question is when I turn the iPod off how do I go back to the same spot I was listening to when I shut off the iPod
I thank you in advance for your advice.

You may want to consider re-ripping the audiobook CDs. However, this time join the CD tracks into a single file per CD. Do the following:
    1) Insert CD.
    2) Select all the tracks of the CD.
    3) Select Advanced -> Join CD Tracks
    4) Right click -> Get Info and rename the Album to "Name of Book, Part X" where X is the CD number.
    5) Import CD.
If there are 10 or more CDs in the audiobook use the number scheme: 01, 02, ..., 09, 10, 11, ...
This way, you don't have as many files and it is easer to get to the book you want to read.
    Hope this helps,
    Steven
