Add blobs into a database table
How do I add blobs (images) into a table using portal forms? For example, in the table:
CREATE TABLE DEPT(
ID NUMBER,
NAME VARCHAR2(45),
LOGO BLOB
I need to add the logo for each company via portal forms. I also need the user to see it.
Thanks,
Marcelo
Try the following:
Create a table to store images:
CREATE TABLE mySchema.myImages (
id NUMBER,
name VARCHAR2(50),
image BLOB
Create a Portal Form component based on the table above. This Form will allow uploading images via a GUI interface. Images may also be queried and displayed in the Form.
Create a Procedure as below to retrieve images at in PlSql:
Create or Replace Procedure mySchema.showImages
(v_id IN NUMBER DEFAULT 1) -- Default image (ID=1)
AS
v_img BLOB;
BEGIN
SELECT image INTO v_img
FROM mySchema.myImages
WHERE id = v_id; wpg_docload.download_file(v_img);
END showImages;
Ensure EXECUTE privileges are granted on "mySchema.showImages" to other schemas (or PUBLIC) as needed.
Execute Procedure in a PlSql Item, Dyanamic Page....
BEGIN
mySchema.showImages(2); -- Display image (ID=2)
END;

How to execute a Java method when row inserted into a database table?
I have the need to fire off a java method when a row is inserted into a database table. I am unfortunately working with MySQL which just recently supported triggers but these new triggers can not execute a Java application on any event.
What I am looking for is an event driven approach such that when a row is inserted into a specific table I can fire off a java method (sitting in a tomcat container) that will take the contents and send it to a web service.
It has been mentioned that JMS may have the ability to poll and monitor a database table. Just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.
thanks
JavaTekA service handler might be the right way to run some code at the end of a service call (another way would be to make use of filters).
First, make sure your static table is merged with ServiceHandlers.
Secondary, change your custom method name into one that is not already in the service definition of COLLECTION_COPY_LOT (preferably a unique method name like collectionCopyLotLastAction that describes its purpose) and remove the following line from your code:
m_service.doCodeEx("",this);Now create a service definition for COLLECTION_COPY_LOT in your custom component based on the original COLLECTION_COPY_LOT (copy paste from the original service definition) and add you own method collectionCopyLotLastAction as the last step in the service. Play with the load order to make sure CS is using your service definition of COLLECTION_COPY_LOT instead of the original.

How do i upload an image to a server and put the name into a database table
Ok, i found a php image upload script that im using for a cms
image gallery on my site. But for it to work the way i need to i
have to have certain information submited into a mysql table at the
same time. I could just make it so the user types the name of the
image in a second form, but i would rather not have to as it seems
a clumsy way to do things and opens things up to typos etc.
So, i can upload the image ok, and i can upload data to the
table, but i dont know what I have to do so that the name of the
uploaded file is automaticly inserted into the mysql table.
The first bit of code below is the form I am using to upload
the file to the server. The second bit of code is what I am using
to tell the server what the file name is.
How do I combine the 2 form into one? Please help. It is
driving me to dispair.

Hi Jeff:
Though this does not show you how to solve this issue via a
code
snippett, there are a couple of extensions at WebAssist.com
that enable
you to do this, they are Data Assist and Digital File Pro.
When you have
time, take a look at these Solution Recipes (tutorials) that
show how
DataAssist is used and then now Digital File Pro is used in
conjunction
with DataAssist:
http://www.webassist.com/professional/products/solutionrecipe/Media_139.asp
http://www.webassist.com/professional/products/solutionrecipe/Media_112.asp
DataAssist can be used to save time when you need to build
database
search and management applications quickly, and Digital File
Pro can be
used to include file upload functionality to your form fields
while
enabling you to insert your server file name into the
database, all on
the same page.

How to update small letters into a database table
Hi Guys,
Iam updating a database table. I want to update lower case letters into the table. But by default all the lower case gets converted to Uppercase. How to acheive this requriement.?
Regards.
Harish.hi
On the domain of the particular field , within the definition tab you have to select the lower case check box . Only if this is checked then alone the values with lower case will be saved else it will be converted to upper case by default.
Hope this will answer your need.
Please give 10 points

I'm new to VS. I have run the following code. It does not produce any error, and it does not add or update data to my Access database table.
dbUpdate("UPDATE prgSettings SET varValue='test' WHERE varSetting='test'")
Function dbUpdate(ByVal _SQLupdate As String) As String
Dim OleConn As New OleDbConnection(My.Settings.DatabaseConnectionString.ToString)
Dim oleComm As OleDbCommand
Dim returnValue As Object
Dim sqlstring As String = _SQLupdate.ToString
Try
OleConn.Open()
MsgBox(OleConn.State.ToString)
oleComm = New OleDbCommand(sqlstring, OleConn)
returnValue = oleComm.ExecuteNonQuery()
Catch ex As Exception
' Error occurred while trying to execute reader
' send error message to console (change below line to customize error handling)
Console.WriteLine(ex.Message)
Return 0
End Try
MsgBox(returnValue)
Return returnValue
End Function
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks.You code looks pretty good, at a quick glance. Maybe you can simplify things a bit.
For Insert, please see these samples.

For Update, please see these samples.

Knowledge is the only thing that I can give you, and still retain, and we are both better off for it.
Best to keep samples here to VB.NET

Saving files as BLOB into oracle database
I have files to insert into the oracle database as a BLOB field. Please give me some code to display and store the files into the database.
Cheers..,
aruni.Is your suggested approach limited by Oracle's 4k limit? No it isnt limited to 4k ...Somehow that 4k chunk is stuck in the back of my mind as a limit... Anyway, I recalled some one posted a question regarding Oracle's BLOB/CLOB and was having difficulty either reading or writing so I've decided to poke around a little and this is what I came up with:
1) Oracle's maximum size of a BLOB/CLOB is said to be 4gb -- but I failed to see how that can be accomplished thru Java since the setBinaryStream and setAsciiStream methods require a signed int as a length specification.
2) In reading a LOB, the input stream has an internal MAX_CHUNK_SIZE set to 32768, in order to read anything bigger, it must be done in multiple chunks.

Load XML data from UNIX Server Directly into Relational Database Tables
Is there a way I can load data from an XML File into Oracle Tables , without having the Input XML file in some Oracle Server Directory. My XML File resides on UNIX Application server. And I need to directly load the data into Database tables. Without loading them into the Database Directory.
Also I am looking for a solution that would not load my Database much and effect other running processes. Can it be done using SQL Loader ?
Oracle Database Version is : Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit ProductionThanks for your reply ,
Please would you quote an Example about : 'Load the file into that table using SQL*Loader' (From UNIX Server) Or instance of some existing thread that relates to my situation.
The Size of the File would be about 3 GB. For a similar requirement one of my peers Code which used XMLTABLE and XPATH Approach consumed a lot of resources while running and caused the other Database Applications to slow down. Thus those guys have come up with an approach to :
Parse XML using a C Code using some STRING Functions => For a CSV or Fixed width .dat file and then use SQL Loader to just load the file into Tables.
This approach is efficient in terms of Resources and Time(Takes 5 mins). But I am not confident about parsing XML based on String based C Functions.
Please comment about this approach . Also if possible Suggest the best efficient way of doing this.
