Add bookmarks bar folders in ios

How do I add bookmarks bar folders in safari iOS?

Thanks a lot.  Ive spent hours trying to find this.  Not very intuitive, and I've been using Macs for twenty years!  I tried redoing my bookmarks on my MacBook after I posed the question and that did it, but I'm glad to know how to do it on the iPad.  Several sites tell people that bookmark menu folders cannot be added in iOS.  Have a great day.  Rick

  • How do I remove "Bookmark Bar" folders in Safari Bookmarks?

My Bookmarks sync fine between my iPhone and iPad, except that iCloud keeps creating "Bookmark Bar" folders. They are driving me crazy because I cannot delete OR move them out of the way.
There are now SIX unused (empty) "Bookmark Bar" folders making it rediculously cumbersome when I try to scroll down to my actual Bookmarks.
PLEASE, oh PLEASE HELP! How can I remove all those "Bookmark Bar" folders?
I am on iPad2 and iPhone4 with the latest iOS. I tried turning iCloud "Sync Bookmarks" off, rebooting both devices, and turning Sync back on. That seems to be when iCloud wants to add even more empty "Bookmark Bar" folders.
    - Cody

Ok, so...ARGH!!! The solution was SO SIMPLE that I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out.
Long story short: I was able to delete the "Bookmarks Bar" folders (15 in all!) from my PC (Win7). AND, the process did NOT delete all my existing iDevice Bookmarks (YAY!).
So, in case anyone else stumbles upon this thread with the same issue:
    Open iCloud on your PC
Turn on option to sync bookmarks with IE
('yes' to merge bookmarks- This step does not delete your existing bookmarks on your iDevices)
Make sure your iDevices are set to sync bookmarks in iCloud.
Next, open your "Favorites" in IE on your PC and right-click/delete all "Bookmarks Bar" folders.
Voila! Done! No more Bookmarks BarS...although there will be ONE that will not go away. One is better than 15:)

  • Add folders to bookmark bar folders?

How do I create a subfolder within a folder on Bookmark bar?

Here's one way of doing it. Assuming here you've got your Menu bar up.
First go "Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks".
In the left-hand pane, select "Bookmarks Bar" as per the following screenshot:
Now over in the right-hand pane (below the cover flow of your history), Select and expand the folder in the bookmarks bar that you want to put the new folder in. For example:
Now go "Bookmarks > Add Bookmark Folder". That should drop an untitled folder inside the folder you had selected-and-open. For example:
Rename the folder as you please, and drag and drop bookmarks (or other folders containing bookmarks) within the new folder as you please.

  • TS4001 iCloud Syncs my Desktop Bookmark Bar items to my iOS Bookmark Menu, folders only

I have all of my bookmarks in Safari on my desktop (OS X 10.7.5) via the Bookmark BAR - I have them organized in folders for ease, and I like it that way.
When I use iCloud to sync Bookmarks to my iOS devices (iPad Retina and iPod Touch, latest iOS), the result is that I end up with a series of bookmark folders in the "Bookmark Menu (not the Bookmark Bar) that duplicates bookmarks and folders that I have on my iMac desktop in the Bookmark Bar.
Problem 1.  I don't want them in the Bookmark Menu on my iOS devices, I want them in the Bookmark Bar so I can use them from the bar.
Problem 2.  Even if I wanted to use what ends up on my iOS devices, I can't because none of the bookmarks in the folders are there, only a series of folders.  The only actual bookmarks that are on my iOS devices are those that are not in folders - and again, those few are in the Bookmark Menu, not the Bookmark Bar.
    Can anyone help with this?

    iPod Model PC544LL/A; version 6.1.3
    iPad Model MD515LL/A; version 6.1.3

So what you are saying is that if I save a url on my desktop Mac as a Boomark Bar item, it SHOULd sync to the Bookmark Bar on my iOS devices?  That was the issue I was complaining about.  It was not.  Please confirm that because I am only assuming that from your last paragraph above.
As for the whole duplicate thing, from my searching the forums today I realize that is a common "issue" people are complaining about - that their bookmark bar items are also showing in the bookmark menu.  I think that is what you were referring to.
So I did try your set of steps in your last paragraph above and they did not work.  In fact, nothing seemed to sync except the test Boomark Bar folder addition I made on my iPad which synced to my iPod touch.  Other than that, nothing else synced from my Desktop - neither in my Bookmark Bar or my Boomark Menu.
Posbily related - Unforntunately, becasue I was having this problem earlier and also had noticed the whole issue with the fact I had all of the same folders on my Desktop Bookmark Menu as I had in my Desktop Bar - I tried to solve that issue by deleting all of the items under my Bookmark Menu, and now I do not have anything in that folder except:
    Recent Tags
    Recently Bookmarked
    Get Bookmark Add-ons
Feeds (folder with items in it)
    Unsorted Bookmarks (folder empty)
Is that part of my problem now?
    Thanks,

  • Bookmarks bar not displaying

Since migrating from Mobile Me to iCloud I have lost the bookmarks bar in mobile Safari on my iPad. In the list of bookmarks I have two bookmarks bar folders, one is empty, the other contains the correct bookmarks bar links. The bookmarks bars on my two Macs are correctly populated. I suspect Mobile Safari is using the empty folder. I have tried to delete this folder but cannot. Any help would be welcome.

Did you go to Settings>Safari>Always Show Bookmarks Bar>On?
Have you tried quitting Safari and restaring the iPad?
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button.Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and holddown on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in theupper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Odd Bookmark Bar Behaviour with Parental Controls

I had this problem on my old iMac and hoped it would go away with my new one (iMac 27"), but it hasn't.  I have Parental Controls turned on for my 4 year old son, to limit him to just a few websites.  I am trying to have the bookmarks spread out across the Bookmarks Bar but Parental Contols keeps ceating a bookmarks folder called 'Bookmark Bar' and putting the bookmarks in this.  Sometimes it will nest several layers of 'Bookmark Bar' folders within themselves and put my bookmarks several layers down.  The changes in Safari are echoed in the Parental Controls Prefernece Pane.
    Any ideas?

See the link below for a discussion thread on this same problem. No solution from Apple yet. But this work-around solution is effective.

  • Bookmark BAR on different devices w/iCloud

Hey guys, this is probably very simple but I can' t figure it out. I want to be able to sync my specific BOOKMARK BAR on 4 different devices (MAC, PC, iPad and iPhone).
I'm able to sync my bookmarks, thats great. But the BAR seems to change on each or I see several BOOKMARK BAR folders in the bookmarks but some are empty and none of it makese sense which to use.
At the end of the day, I just want the same bar on all my devices.

You can choose to use iCloud for syncing iCal, contacts, etc and NOT for syncing  iTunes and other purchases if you prefer to do it that way... There is an option in the iCloud device settings  to continue syncing the old way, by connecting to your 'Mother Mac'.
Personally, I'm going to choose to do things this way, as much of the music that's on my Mac was not bought on iTunes, so won't sync thru icloud anyway.
If you choose to go this way, use your current MobileMe username if you have one ([email protected]) and password... NOT your Apple ID (if it's different, as it is for many folk) .

  • After IOS 8 update, bookmark bar won't go away

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my iPad 2, in landscape mode in Safari, the bookmarks bar, now combined with links and "Reading List", won't go away. I believe it is supposed to go away when you select one of the functions, such as bookmark, so that the tab turns blue, then hit it again. It doesn't. I can turn it to portrait mode to make it go away, but I'd like to use landscape mode without losing a third of the screen to bookmarks.

Apple knows what's good for you - how dare you criticizing their benevolent parental guidance?
Jokes aside, I'm also a little bit puzzled that there's no option to choose between the "toggle on-off" setting in landscape mode and the fade out one as in portrait In Safari's settings. But there's actually some kind of workaround I'm now using most of the time in landscape mode:
When tapping the URL address bar your bookmarks will also show above the virtual keyboard as they do when Safari doesn't have any websites opened. As soon as one taps into that bookmark window to scroll or directly click a bookmark the keyboard disappears again. It may not be a perfect method, especially when bookmarks aren't organized in folders, because the top level bookmarks are displayed as rather largish icons. But those contained in a folder will actually display as a drop-down list (can be scrolled when having a large number of entries) similar to the normal bookmarks list. Once a bookmark has been clicked everything fades out and you're taken to the selected site. As my bookmarks are almost exclusively in folders such as "News", "Sports", "Tech" etc. I've come to appreciate this kind of bookmark navigation much more than through the standard bookmarks menu with its annoying behavior in landscape mode.

  • Spring Loaded Folders in Bookmark Bar

My apologies if this has already been asked (I couldn't find anything).
Is it possible or is there a plugin that will allow folders in the bookmark bar to act like spring loaded finder folders?
For example I have an Apple folder in my bookmarks bar which contains a number of sub-folders like hardware, software etc. If I drag and drop an address onto the Apple folder it just ends up in that folder, I would like to be able to hover over Apple and the subfolders become visible.
At the moment I have to Show All Bookmarks and organise from there. This seems like a really obvious thing to me, am I just missing a preference checkbox somewhere?
    Many thanks
    Tom
    iMac 20" 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Tom, I've never thought about that before. However, when you wish to bookmark a page, if you click on the Add Bookmark button i.e. the "+" sign/button next to the url/address window, you get a drop-down menu which shows the geometry of all the nested folders in your bookmark collection. It's just a simple case of scrolling down to the appropriate folder.
Apologies if you know that already and it's not of any use.

  • Safari 3.2.1 5525.27.1) Problem adding bookmarks to folders on Menu Bar

When I book mark this website to the Folder called "TV Shows" that is on the menu bar, it does not appear in the drop-down menu when I select it. But then when I go to the "COLLECTIONS and BOOKMARKS" section and I look at the Folder called TV shows, it appears therein. But still, even when it appears in the folder in this view, and I go to select the drop-down menu again on the Menu Bar, it still does not appear at all. This is the website I was attempting to bookmark and to label as "HEROES". http://www.tv.com/heroes/show/17552/episode.html (I just updated to OSX 10.5.6 from OSX 10.5.5). I am running a Macbook Duo Core 2 gigahertz with 2 gigs of ram.
I closed Safari and reopened it hoping the problem would fix itself. But after doing that it still does not appear in the drop-down menu called TV Shows on the Menu Bar.
    Any suggestion is appreciated.

When I am in "COLLECTIONS AND BOOKMARKS" view, I changed the name of the folder that is listed under "bookmarks" (that is designed to be a drop-down menu on the Bookmark Bar), I changed the name to "TV 1" from "TV Shows". I also added another folder under the Bookmarks called "TV 2" and I dragged and dropped two bookmarks from the "Bookmarks Menu" listing to the "TV 2" folder, and yet Safari would not update in real-time the Bookmark Bar to recognize that I created a "TV 2" folder/drop-down menu, nor did it update the contents of "TV Shows" to become "TV 1".
The only way I was able to update the drop-down menu bookmark folders on the Bookmark Bar was to drag-and-drop them one at a time from the "COLLECTIONS and BOOKMARKS" view.
Is it just me or is this a ******** way of updating bookmarks?
I think it is perfectly fine as being ONE WAY of updating bookmarks, but there really should be "real-time" updating of bookmarks. That is to say, I should be able to choose "bookmark this page" and add it to the folder named "TV Shows" and automatically see Safari update it without having to make two steps: 1) choosing the bookmark, and 2) going into the list of bookmarks to manually drag and drop the bookmark into the Bookmark Bar that contains the folder/drop-down menu.

  • How do you add a web site to a folder in the iMac Bookmarks Bar?

Safari 6.0.5 does not have a "+" left of the URL. According to the Apple Safari video, that is how you add a web site to a folder in the Bookmarks bar.

Drag the website "icon" from the URL bar into the folder in the Bookmarks Bar.
When you start draging, a green + will appear.
    Best.

  • In Firefox4, can I lose the folder icons from the Bookmarks Bar while keeping icons everywhere else (because the folder icons are superfluous and extend the horizontal list of bookmark folders beyond the width of the window)?

I've just installed Firefox4 for Mac (OS 10.6.7) and can no longer see all my bookmark folders at once across the top -- because the folder icons make the Bookmarks Bar too wide. Yet, I like the icons on the other bars, so I don't want to turn them off globally. Is there a way to just lose the folder icons -- which don't appear to serve a purpose anyway?

Small correction to original post. Machine is an iMac 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. (I was at home when I made the first post.) But the bookmarks menu behavior still exists today and FF 5 is essentially unusable.
System details next to the post are not for machine with the bug in question.
Found a copy of FF4 to use until a solution is found. Turned off automatic updates to preserve this version.

  • I have reinstalled Firefox 26 as well as reset it to default. Besides losing the bookmarks, my tool bar does not function- particularly add bookmarks.

Not sure if either Windows or Firefox update caused my bookmarks to be lost. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox (26) as well as made multiple attempts to reset to default. Any attempts to restore only show the current date and NOT the date when last had the bookmarks. I have researched (ad nauseum) and have found multiple profiles- a couple of which show bookmarks backups from an earlier time, although earlier than I wanted (gap of 2+ weeks from other profiles up until loss of the bookmarks). I have attempted to copy the older bookmarks backup folder(s) and place them on to the desktop. When I tried to restore from a file, it was not recognized so I'm not sure if the file format is different I'm also not sure if I'm doing all of this correctly because within those backup folders (after clicking on the folder) it shows the Json files. Needless to say, I'm pulling my hair out and said lost bookmarks are important for school research. This has happened before and "somehow" (after reading different sources) I was able to get the lost bookmarks back. Now, nothing is working and can not add bookmarks. I'm "somewhat" knowledgeable of computer glitches and usually have corrected them within a reasonable amount of time. I haven't been this lost (and frustrated) in a good while. Sorry for the length here, but this has become quite cumbersome. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

<u>Initially back up all the profiles,</u> you have they will hopefully contain useful bookmarks files.
*[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
It may even be possible to repair some files or add bookmarks from other profiles so it is important to backup whatever is available.
<u>Take CARE with any restore attempts</u> .json files overwrite existing bookmarks so you should always manually backup existing bookmarks before any restore attempt.

    <u>Multiple Profiles?</u><br />
The actual full working database is ''places.sqlite'' although other files may be useful. In your case there will be multiple copies of this database, one in each profile.
    * Why the multiple profiles ?
** Do you normally deliberately run and use multiple profiles ?
** Are these all within the same OS user account ?
    <u>Standard procedures </u>
If bookmarks have stopped working unexpectedly the database file '''places.sqlite'' may have been corrupted. Finding the profile and deleting, or better still renaming the database will force creation of a new file. You may lose an bookmarks created in the last day that Firefox was open. See
*[[Can't add, change or save bookmarks - How to fix#w_create-a-new-bookmarks-file]]'''_create-a-new-bookmarks-file'''
    * To find the profile easily <br> Use '''Firefox Button → Help → Troubleshooting Information [open folder](or similar options)''' <br />See [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data#w_how-do-i-find-my-profile]]'''_how-do-i-find-my-profile'''
    * Also note [[Recover lost or missing Bookmarks]]
I presume that you are talking about the one computer and not upgrading the Windows Operating System, just uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox.
Ordinarily the bookmarks are not removed. Firefox attempts to retain the profile that includes bookmarks in case you decide to reinstall it again.
If you aggressively remove Firefox and all associated files that you will lose the bookmarks. You may be lucky and find that the bookmarks file has been tracked by Windows and possibly is restorable.
If you have any current bookmarks save them now as an HTML files by exporting them as HTML. This sort of backup has the advantage that it can be appended to current bookmarks.
*see [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]]
It is important to note the ordinary backups overwrite and destroy any existing bookmarks when you import them.
*Do a full backup of bookmarks before you attempt any restore. <br />See [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
The bookmarks themselves are stored within the Firefox profile and the file is called places.sqlite , that is the file you want. (There are also backup bookmarks within a backup folder inside the profile, they may also be useful files.)
*You can find the profile from<br />Firefox Button -> Help-> Troubleshooting Information -> [Open folder] <br />See [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data#w_how-do-i-find-my-profile]]_how-do-i-find-my-profile

  • Why can't I add a bookmark to subfolders in the bookmark bar by drag-n-drop?

Way back in the '90s, there used to be a Mac browser (IE?) that allowed you to drag a URL from the address bar, hover it over a bookmark folder in the bookmark bar, and it would spring open to expose all the subfolders, and allow you to drop the new URL into any of the exposed subfolders.
This remains, without a doubt, the most effective, straightforward, simple, and efficient way of filing bookmarks I've ever experienced.
Why doesn't Safari use this system?  Or does it, and I just don't know how to enable it?  If it doesn't, how can I suggest this to the Safari team?
    Cheers,
    Lloyd

Safari 7 looks likely to allow dragging from the address bar to folders in the  sidebar - although no mention of drag/drop onto sub-folders in the bookmarks (favorites) bar. But there is a + button just to the left, which may allow  '1-click' adding to sub-folders, Reading List etc (more here)

  • I've lost the option to add to bookmarks bar.  The items I had on bookmarks bar are there but I cannot add new ones. Suggestions please?

I have lost the option to add to bookmarks bar.  I tried going to safari settings and selecting show bookmarks bar but that is not an option any longer and it only gives show favourites bar.  I've only had my iPad for a few months and it's my first apple computer.  Likely user error and any guidance would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Well I feel silly. You were right. And didn't help that my titles for some were too long. Once I got rid of some the newer ones I'd tried to add popped up.  Thank you!
