Add Button to Play Audio

Rick and other experts, this should be an easy one but damn,
I can't get it to work.
Situation: 6 second Captivate slide (an imported, text only
from PPT). A back and next button control navigation appearing at
.5 and pausing at 5.5 No other objects or graphics on the slide.
Problem: I want to add a 'play' button that will allow the
student to hear an audio recap of the information. However, I want
the button to also appear at .5 seconds. I've tried different
variations but regardless of where the play button is put or where
the 'pause' is placed on the timeline, the audio still runs without
clicking. I don't want it to do that.
Any solution other than a jump to?

Hi there
There should be several ways to accomplish this.
* If the audio is at the slide level, stage it so it doesn't
"appear" until .5, .6 or .7 seconds in. Then configure the button
to pause at .5 seconds.
* Configure the button with a Success caption and attach the
audio to the success caption
* Insert the audio on the next slide and have the button
simply open the next slide
There are other ways as well. Just tossed out a few.
Cheers... Rick

  • Setting button to play audio track

    Hi,
    I have not been able to find a solution to this problem, I thought someone might know of the correct way to go about it.
    I have created a menu in DVD studio pro which lists 19 different options (in this case they are 19 different pieces of music). What I want is for the user to select a track, hit play, and have the track play whilst the menu stays onscreen. Is this possible?
    Thanks
    Jack

    But, every DVD needs to have at least one video track to play properly. Why not add the menu image to a track which has the audio set in it. From your normal menu, set the buttons to target a marker at the start of each different audio section and set an end jump on the marker to go back to the menu. You could set the menu call to a small script which checks SPRM7 and returns to the menu on the appropriate button as well.
    That way a user can see the screen and listen to the audio and have a DVD with a track...

  • Button Pointing to audio file in same directory

    I'm fairly new to Flash, but have gotten the hang of it for
    the most part.
    I'm trying to create audio buttons that will play vocabulary
    words when clicked on for a language learning website. I can create
    buttons that play audio when clicked, but as of now the only way I
    know how to do it is to add the audio directly to the swf file. The
    problem is this takes up about 24kb of space, and there will be
    about 20 copies of the button per page, each for a different
    vocabulary word.
    I was thinking it would be nice if I could use the exact same
    swf file to save on loading time, but have it point towards
    different audio files. Basically, I figure if the audio is built
    into the swf file, when the page loads it will take a long time,
    because it will load all of the audio along with the files. if it
    points separately, it will only load the audio when the button is
    clicked.
    Is it possible to do this? I've heard that you can use the
    object tag to point towards separate audio files, but am not too
    sure on how to pull that off. I'm just looking for a way to use the
    button I've created and keep speeds reasonable when loading the
    webpage. Loading 30 audio files at the beginning can slow it down,
    especially if they only plan on playing a couple of them. Each mp3
    is only a few kb larger than a swf file with the audio already in
    it, so the compression of mp3 in a swf (at least from what I know)
    didn't do too much for my case.
    I figure I can put all the audio files in a folder along with
    the swf file.

  • How to add a button to play 1 minute audio?

    I would like to add a button to a web page. Clicking the button would play about one minute of audio. I will appreciate very much if someone could help me accomplish this. Thanks greatly in advance. Tom

    As a caution,
    1 of the absolute WORST things you can do in web design is to have an audio file autoload and play as soon as a website loads. This is incredibly annoying to most web users.
    I am not saying you are planning this, but consider the following situations:
    1) A user is listening to an audio broadcast of the local news while surfing the web, or his favorite cd. All of a sudden, what they are trying to listen to is unexpectedly overridden by sounds from a web page, that they didn't ask to hear.
    2) A user is planning her wedding, while at work. She logs onto a photography website quickly to view some pictures that a co-worker had said were great, and all of a sudden the people in the next 20 cubicles are distracted by music blaring out.
    3) Your aunt finally gets her young, collicky child to sleep. To unwind, she surfs the web for a bit. She decides to pop over and read your blog, and all of a sudden the music breaks the silence, waking up the child.
    Audio and video on a webpage is great, but should ALWAYS be at the control of the end user.
    Cheers!

  • Button Transition only plays audio

    Hi,
    In Encore, I have configured the MAIN MENU to continous loop Video and Audio (via the Motion tab)  I then configured each button to play a "transition" movie (1 second clip) so that it will play the transition first, then the actual movie set in the "link" section.  Everything is set properly (at least to my knowledge), however, when I preview and click on the button, only the transition's audio is playing, the video of the MAIN MENU remains to be playing. When the transition (that 1 second clip) is done playing its audio, then it altogether went to the actual movie.
    Any ideas what I did wrong? Any help appreciated.

    I first learned about the pickwhip from some online video training for AE, I really thought the trainer said  "pigwhip". And since "whip" sounded so negative (like why would I ever want to use a pig whip and whip my precious MOV, Cameras, null layers, etc.), I then just call the "pickwhip" a "pigtail" since it does look like a pigtail...and then I just gotten used to it. Glad you understood what I meant!
    How I add the transition? I pickwhip the transition to an MOV (which I import as asset)
    How to add the Motion Menu? I pickwhip the Video/Audio to an MOV (which I imported as asset)
    Motion menu rendered? Yes, the motion menu was rendered
    OK, back to business. Here is what I've tried:
    1) I created a new, simple blank menu and simple buttons with NO motion menu: Transition worked perfectly
    2) Using the SAME blank menu (from 1), I added a MUXed MOV, it didn't work.
    3) I deMUXed the MOV to a video-only MOV and separate audio (in AIF), problem persists!
    In Summary: Appears that transition didn't work (for me) ONLY when I do a motion menu
    btw, thx for the help with the troubleshooting.....Any additional insights appreciated.

  • Play Audio On Webpage With Button Click

    Hello everyone. I'm new to Flash, so please bear with me.
    I'm creating a language learning website, and wish to add
    audio to it for all vocabulary words. I want the audio to be
    compatible across browsers and simply play when a button is
    clicked, without any controls or media players opening up.
    From what I hear, it sounds like Flash is a good way to go
    and would do the trick. It's just a matter of converting all the
    mp3s to Flash. The mp3 file size is already relatively small (1-2
    seconds in length each and about 30kb in size I believe).
    How could I create a button that plays the mp3 when it is
    clicked? I was
    researching the topic and came across a few things.
    What I am looking for is almost identical to this:
    Site
    demonstrating audio buttons
    While I could jump right in and use her example, it doesn't
    quite work. With hers, everything needs to be in different folders,
    and I would need a different button - her's is a little big. I
    can't put everything in different folders, because I will have
    hundreds of audio files. It would be much easier to put them all in
    an audio folder with different filenames.
    I also was reading at another site that it deals with
    Javascript controlling the Flash - when you click the button it
    plays the swf file. Since I am very new to Flash, I'm not exactly
    sure of what all it can and cannot do. The site also mentioned not
    all browsers allow Javascript to control Flash files. Again,
    however, I'm unsure of how accurate the information still remains.
    The browsers were older versions, and they were talking about how
    to do it in Flash 5 and Dreamweaver 4. Furthermore, the example
    located at the above link does not use any Javascript.
    Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do this? While I am
    beginning to learn Flash, I doubt I will understand what to do all
    on my own for a while, and I need to get the site finished as soon
    as possible. The audio is practically all that is left before the
    site launch. Like I said, I'm looking for a way to add audio to a
    webpage, that is played (without media players opening up, etc)
    with the push of a button, and also will load quickly, since there
    were be about 20 audio files per page.

    Here is some info on sound linkage, not sure if this is what
    you want but its a start:

  • Play audio files with cool buttons

    I want to create an embedded audio file as a swf file. On the
    page, you would see a series of stop, start, and volume buttons. I
    want to be able to add my own buttons that I create in Photoshop as
    the player buttons. I have the buttons, I have the mp3 file as well
    as the swf file. How do I create one of those cool players that you
    see on websites with audio?

    Lloyd already mentioned mediaelement.
    There's also soundplayer which is wav only
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.media.soundplayer%28v=vs.110%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    You don't need storyboards at all.
    You could play sounds using triggers or code.

    I think I mentioned this previously.
    I recommend you use visual studio to develop routinely and blend only rarely.
    Hope that helps.

    I have garage band ver 10.0.2 and am trying to add effects to an audio track but i have no info button or track info under the track tab.  How do i get these things to show up on my program?

    In GarageBand 10.0.2 you can no longer add all kinds of effects freely; this GarageBand '11 feature has been discontinued. Pick one of the predefined patches that already has the effects you want.
    However, you can add effects from the predefined audio units.
    You'll see the predefined effects on the track, when you open the Smart Controls. To add audio units, click the button and enlarge the the smart controls pane by dragging the dividing line to the Track Area upwards.

  • Play audio more than once on a button

    I have a need to configure the audio placed on the success status of the button to play more than once.  My users may need to hear it again but when clicking it the second time the only thing you hear is the click sound, not the audio.  I am using Captivate CS5 and have it set to infinite.
    Thanks for any assistance!

    Hi there
    I seem to make it work as follows:
    Configure a Success caption for the button that is transparent and has no text. Then assign the desired audio clip to the caption.
    Now configure a simple Advanced Action that is a Standard action of Assign. Assign the variable rdcmndGotoFrame with rdinfoCurrentFrame. Assign this action to the Button. This keeps the slide from progressing when the button is clicked.
    In my test, the audio played over and over without fail. The only down-side is if you repeatedly click the button too soon. Sometimes you would get just a click. But if you paused briefly between clicks, things sort of "reset" and the audio consistently played.

  • Play audio from hovering over button?

    I don't think Encore can do this but I wanted to make sure.
    This would be a menu for blind people where the first menu item would be a "play all" and the other 6 buttons would be "go to chapters" but when the cursor moves down to the next button a short audio clip would play that would "speak" what the button is. Like a subpicture only it's audio. I'm thinking this is more of a "director" type move or other multimedia flash type program and not the DVD spec. If I'm wrong and Encore can do this, please tell me how?
    Thanks,
    [email protected]

    That's not something that menus support in DVD-Video, but you can fake it by using multiple menus, with each menu having the unique audio clip for a background, and then link each menu to a button on each menu. Complete the illusion by setting each button to auto-activate.
    This would be a lot of work if you have lots of buttons.

  • Button to stop audio

    I have a PDF with an audio file that automatically starts playing as soon as the PDF opens. I would like to add a button that users can click to stop playing the audio. However, the only action I see that is related to audio is to PLAY audio.
    Can anyone help to explain how to create a button that STOPS the audio from playing?

    Make a movie clip, frame 1 with sound set to EVENT and number
    of loops you want
    and a stop(); action.
    Frame 2 of that movie clip the very same sound set to STOP
    and loop to 0 (zero)
    Now all you need is a button in frame 1 OFF The Sound with
    action nextFrame();
    and on second frame button with an action to ON the button
    using prevFrame();

  • How do I include an entire hour-long performance on a DVD and also have menu buttons for playing isolated sections of the performance?

    How do I include an entire hour-long performance on a DVD and also have menu buttons for playing isolated sections of the performance?
    So far, I've already done the individual menu buttons for sections of the performance. How do I set up some kind of "play" button that will play the video of the entire performance straight through? Will this be too much material for the DVD to hold? Does the program recognize and not replicate material to save space? If so, will it interfere with that if  I add edits to individual sections that will not be in the video of the entire performance?

    Hi
    If You only need
    • Play movie in full
    • Start into the movie at specific places e.g. Chapters - then play to movie ends
    Then this is fairly simple - Just add Chapters in Your Video-editor (iMovie or FinalCut)
    (some quirks to keep in mind - No Chapter mark in any transition or within 2 sec from it - AND - only Lettera A to Z and 0 to 9 - no other letters/symbols at all)
    BUT
    If You want to
    • Play full movie (with or without Chapters)
    • Play an individual Chapter then return to Menu
    This function is not standard in iDVD - but has to be faked one way or another.
    Please read my notes on this and be aware of the 60 minutes / 12 minutes limit in iDVD (THIS is including the Menu and it can take 15 minutes or more from the movie time)
    Play all resp one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
    Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
    Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in hight. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
    give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !
    Cons: BUT - When tested with music videos - the same video on main Menu played nicely with OK Audio. The Play All version in SlideShow had a signifcant Distortion - as on telephone or worse.
    Mike Evangelist1
    You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go
    Yours Bengt W

  • Closed captions on advanced action (play audio)

    Been using CP8 for awhile now and have a question about closed captioning with advanced actions.
    I have a single slide with audio that plays when the slide starts. Also has 4 action buttons on the slide. I wanted to force the user to click all four buttons before the slide would continue. Each button press would also play an audio file.
    I created an advanced action for each button that sets it's own button variable to "1", enables the visibility on the highlight objects for that button area, and plays an associated audio file for that button area. The advanced action also tests to see if all four button variables are set to 1. If true, it enables a continue button to go to the next slide.
    My problem is that for the closed captioning, I only get CC on the intro audio. I can't seem to figure out how to get the CC for the audio played by the advanced action. It just shows the original CC for the main slide.
    Is there a way to change the CC contents from within the advanced actions so that when they click the button, it plays the audio and changes the CC? I cannot use other boxes to display the CC info. It has to be in the CC box.
    Otherwise, I'm looking at creating a separate slide for each button click (jump to slide X) which plays the audio and CC. I was trying to avoid having 5 slides instead of one.
    Any suggestions?

    Only slide audio appears in CC, not object audio. You will have to add text containers that you show if cpCmndCC is set to 1, and hide if it is set to 0.

  • Problem Playing Audio in Forms 6i On Web

    Hi there,
    I'm trying to get sound out of a form running over the web under Forms 6i using JDK 1.1.8 and after two solid days of reading documentation, scanning Oracle's support sites and searching the web I've been unable to figure out what I need to do to get sound to work in this environment. The maddening part is that I've been able to do it under Forms 9i and JDeveloper (using Java2) 9i so I know how easy this should be. Unfortunately, 9i is not our corporate standard yet so I am forced to go the 6i route instead for now.
    Based on my research I find it impossible to believe that I'm dealing with that complex a problem and that if any of you have managed to figure it out it won't require that much time to pass it on.
    Okay, if you are still reading then I thank you and hope that you'll be able to help. The specifics of my situation are as follows:
    -Using Oracle 8.1.7 as the database but that's pretty much irrelevant here as I do no database access in this simplified form I'm testing in.
    -Forms Server and Form Builder 6i (version 6.0.8.13.0) running on Solaris and being used to develop a simple form with just one button on it which implements my PJC. My real need is a bit more complex but this is fine for a start.
    -JDeveloper 3.2.3 used to develop the PJC, compiled with the 1.1.8 JDK and deployed to a standard JAR file.
    -Have tried signing my JAR file and resigning the f60all.jar using the same user. Have tried not signing either one. Have tried just signing one of the two. I believe I've tried every combination here with the one that gets me the furthest being the scenario where I don't sign mine and just use the standard one that came with the Forms install. This allows me to get my form up on the screen and at least try to play the sound.
    -The code for the PJC is as follows. This code was mostly auto-generated by JDev with the setproperty function and its debug code having been created by me using my successfull 9i experiment code as the base. Anyway, here is the PJC code.
    // Copyright (c) 1999 Oracle Corporation
    package soundpkg;
    import oracle.forms.ui.*;
    import oracle.forms.properties.ID;
    import java.net.URL;
    import java.applet.*;
    public class sound extends VButton {
    public final static ID PLAY = ID.registerProperty("PLAY");
    public String sou_loc = "http://rhqt-oracle.on.prv:6900/las/paul.wav";
    public sound() {
    super();
    try {
    jbInit();
    catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    private void jbInit() throws Exception {
    public boolean setProperty(ID property, Object value) {
    if (property == PLAY)
    try
    System.out.println("before soundplay");
    sou_loc = value.toString();
    System.out.println(sou_loc);
    URL sou = new URL(sou_loc);
    System.out.println("1");
    Applet testapp = new Applet();
    System.out.println("2");
    AudioClip clip = testapp.getAudioClip(sou);
    System.out.println("3");
    clip.play();
    System.out.println("after soundplay");
    return true;
    } catch(Exception ex)
    ex.printStackTrace();
    return super.setProperty(property, value);
    Pretty much the only change from my 9i code was to the function call for opening the audio file.
    Under Jdev 9i, using Java2 it was:
    AudioClip clip = Applet.newAudioClip(sou);
    Under Jdev 3.2.3 and using JDK 1.1.8 (have to in order to work with Forms 6i) I changed it to:
    AudioClip clip = testapp.getAudioClip(sou);
    From all of my reading, I thought this SHOULD have worked. But, of course, it doesn't. One possible problem is the fact that I was forced to create a new instance of Applet in order to be able to reference the getAudioClip function. My other two attempts to reference it without creating a new instance were:
    1)Just access it on its own:
    AudioClip clip = getAudioClip(sou);
    - This resulted in the expected, "method getAudioClip(java.net url) not found in class soundpkg.sound" error
    2)Access it by first referencing Applet
    AudioClip clip = Applet.getAudioClip(sou);
    - This resulted in a, "non-static method getAudioClip(java.net.URL) cannot be referenced from a static context", message
    Hence, how I wound up creating the new instance and using it to access the getAudioClip function. Maybe this was the wrong way to troubleshoot it but, being new to Java and about five years removed from my C++ experience, it was the best I could come up with and it at least allowed me to compile. However, once I click on my button to play the sound I get the following error output from the Java Console. I've left the beginning info on just in case version numbers are required or something. Seemingly, the more relevant stuff comes later, beginning with the line generated by my debug code saying "before soundplay". Though, I must admit I'm curious as to why I'm getting all of those other, "opening blah blah blah no proxy", messages as well but they don't seem to be stopping me from running the form so I've ignored them for now. Anyway, here are the errors thrown up by the Java Console:

    As you can see from the output and a quick glance at my code above, the program crashes out on the line where I attempt to call the getAudioClip function. And that's about it. This is where I'm stumped. So, again, any help anybody can provide is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Duane Colucci

    Duane,
    don't knowwhy you chose to extend VButton, but the following code works for me. Note that I extend the VBean class. Also I am using Jinitiator 1.3.1.9 (this is what I had available for testing). My first test chowed that there was a problem with the way you specify teh URL string, which is why I harcoded the URL string when building the URL.
    Another issue when running it is that you need to sign the file because it needs socket permission (at least this was the error shown on a remote client).
    Here's the code
    package mypackage3;
    import oracle.forms.ui.*;
    import oracle.forms.properties.ID;
    import java.net.URL;
    import java.applet.*;
    import javax.swing.JTextField;
    import oracle.forms.handler.IHandler;
    public class Class1 extends VBean {
    public final static ID PLAY = ID.registerProperty("PLAY");
    private IHandler mHandler = null;
    public Class1()
    super();
    public void init(IHandler handler)
    mHandler = handler;
    super.init(handler);
    public boolean setProperty(ID property, Object value) {
    if (property == PLAY)
    try
    System.out.println("before soundplay");
    URL sou = new URL("http://fnimphiu-lap.de.oracle.com/forms60java/Drums.wav");
    System.out.println("1");
    //Applet testapp = new Applet();
    Applet testapp = mHandler.getApplet();
    System.out.println("2");
    AudioClip clip = testapp.getAudioClip(sou);
    System.out.println("3");
    clip.play();
    System.out.println("after soundplay");
    return true;
    catch(Exception ex)
    ex.printStackTrace();
    return super.setProperty(property, value);
