Add Computer (Device) Alias to Dock

I like to run without my drives (devices) on my desktop. I have a few key folders -- including my user root -- on my dock. I would like to add an alias of my Computer (Device) to the dock as well so I can go right to the root of the device directly from the dock icon rather than having to open a finder folder, go to "Devices" in the side bar and click on it from there. I don't see wany way to do this. Anyone got an idea? Maybe a terminal command?

The Computer item itself is generated by the Finder as a convenience and doesn't correspond to an actual filesystem item the way files, folders, and drives do. As it doesn't actually exist in the filesystem, an alias can't be created to it.

Nuts!!
Oh, by the way...you do know that in olden days the bearer of bad news would get his head lopped off, don't you??

  • Trying to sync 2nd computer, but "Add a device" seems to take me to directions, not to the screens where I enter data. Help?

My main computer is a MacBook, using OS X, and I've had Sync for some time. My office system is a PC, which also worked fine with Sync. IT installed a new PC and I'd like to have it Sync with my data, but when I click on "Add a device" I'm taken to a screen with directions (which in fact don't completely match the screens I pull up going through preferences), but not to anywhere that I actually can add data to link with the Sync files. I'm going in circles trying to do this -- very frustrating. It also appears that I need a password (I have the sync code), but I don't know what it is -- and I've been unable to recover it. Help!

What you need is described in this article: [[https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20sync%20Firefox%20settings%20between%20computers]]
Let me know if you have any additional issue.

  • I don't have the option to add a device on either the iphone or the computer. Both devices tell me to go to "add a device" and neither device give me that option.

I set up sync and downloaded firefox home which I opened. I clicked I already had a sync account and it asked me to add the passcode to my computer under add a device, which is not an option that comes up. Only thing that comes up on my vista computer is set up sync which tells me to go to add a device on my iphone which also does not come up. It is a never ending loop. I tried entiring the passcodes that come up on both devices in both devices alternating codes but none work and they also keep changing.

This happens when you PC disconnects from the sync server. If you go to Tools > Options and then the Sync tab in Firefox 4 and it's not showing your email address with options to manage your sync account, then you've been logged out.
From that window you need to press Connect and use the option "I don't have the device with me" which will allow you to reconnect to the sync server using your email address and sync key you first got when you created the account.
Once you've logged back in, the option to enter the phone's pass code will appear.

  • How can I enter the sync key from my phone? Clicking "add a device" in Firefox 4b11 does nothing.

I'm running Firefox 4b11 on Windows 7 and nothing I do allows me to add my phone to sync. Clicking on "add a device", "change password," or "My Sync Key" does nothing, so I can't even get my sync key to add the phone manually.

You should be able to add a device by opening the Firefox Mobile preferences and then scrolling to the Sync section. Press the connect button and you will get a 12 character pass phrase. On your desktop open the options window and then the Sync tab then use the add a device button to enter the 12 character code from your mobile.
If you are not near your computer you will need the Sync Key that was given to you when setting up Sync.

  • Is it possible to add a device in simulated NI DAQmx device or modular Instrument?

    Hi,
I want to simulate PXIe 8115 module without hardware. Is it possible? If Yes Can I add the device in simulated NI DAQmx device or modular Instrument?
Please Mark the solution as accepted if your problem is solved and donate kudoes
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hm, these are several very basic questions.....
The controller (8115) is a "complete" computer excluding a housing, power supply and external cooling. The later three components are the chassis, in your case the PXIe-1062Q.
The controller can be run by a Windows based OS (e.g. Windows 7) or Real Time ("RT"). So what do you have installed on the 8115?
In either case, communication with that controller by an external, additional PC or laptop is best done by Ethernet. You can use different protocols on Ethernet like a customized TCP/IP based protocol or by using NI Shared Variables.
NI DAQmx is a hardware device driver. The purpose of this is to use a National Instrument based measurement device in a computer. If you want to use an NI device in your PXIe system, it is very likely that you require to have DAQmx installed on the 8115 controller. DAQmx is available for Windows as well as for RT.
DAQmx in this use-case does normally not provide you a direct access to the devices in the PXIe chassis over Ethernet by *any* external computer. You have to write an application which will be run on the 8115 controller to interface (or "relay) the data to your external computer.
    hope this clears things up,
    Norbert
PS: You should ask your local NI branch to send someone to you.... i think a direct discussion with an NI employee should be beneficial for you. Normally, a sales representative is sufficient as NI sales reps are quite technical.
CEO: What exactly is stopping us from doing this?
    Expert: Geometry
    Marketing Manager: Just ignore it.

  • Cannot configure firefox sync and do not have add a device option

I am very frustrated. I have spent a lot of time over the past two days trying to figure out how to ocnfigure Firefox sync. I am specifically trying to sync my iphone to my account. I have downloaded two apps from the Apple App store, both of which are designed to allow me to do so. When I open both of these apps they provide me with a pass code that is broken up into three sections each containing 4 letter and or number combinations, just as I see in all the articles designed to assist me with this issue. However, I open my sync dashboard and do not see ANY tab that states "Add a Device" as the articles also say. So I click on the "I am not near my computer" tab in the apps (both appear to work identically) and I am asked to enter my account, password, and sync key info. I cannot find an article anywhere that tells me what my sync key is or how to recover it if I have forgotten it~!!!@!!!!!!!! Please freaking help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apps in the Apple App Store are not from Mozilla and possibly no longer work with Firefox as Firefox has now moved from Sync to Firefox Accounts. Mozilla does not have any apps out there in the Apple app store however, 3rd parties may but they're not vetted by Mozilla.

  • I have no "add a device" section

I wentg to the sync tab so that I could sync my laptop with my desktop. They are boht use MAC OSX 10.6. There is no add a device tab on either computer once I click on sync--or any other tab

Do you have Sync set up on either device? Before you can connect two computers together, you need to have created an account on one of them.
On one machine, click the Sync tab and choose "Create an account". Once you're done creating an account, you can choose "Connect" on the other machine. "Add a Device" will now be available on the first computer.

  • Click to 'add a device' in synch brings me to website, not allowing me to add another device.

I am trying to add my old laptop to synch after re-imaging. following the directions I go to Synch/preferences/'Add a Device'
Clicking on that brings me to: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20up%20Firefox%20Home%20on%20your%20iPhone
It does not open the box to enter the code.

    Workaround:
I added my Mobilephone (HTC Desire Z, Android 2.2, FF 4.0b5) manually:
In the Firefox-Browser ON MY MOBILE:
    1) Swipe left, tap the '''settings '''icon and select the '''Preferences''' tab
    2) Under the Sync section, tap '''Connect '''
    3) From the Connect to Sync screen, tap '''I'm not near my computer.'''..
4)Next, enter your Account Name (email address), Password, Sync Key and tap 'Connect'
These instructions can also be found on the Helppage which opens instead of the 'Add a device' window ;-)
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/add-a-device-to-firefox-sync
Now sync works fine for me.
    Cheers!

I don't know how I did this, but I created a new sync account and now when I try to sync on either computer it wants me to go to the other computer and add a device. I've tried to start over without any success.

  • Cannot find "Add a Device" link under Sync tab

Hi! I'm trying to make Sync work between my two computers.
I signed up on one laptop and then am instructed to go to the other and "Add a device".
However, when I click on the Sync tab in Options there is no 'Add a device" button.... the window doesn't look the same as the one in Firefox Help. All that exists in my "Sync" window is a button called "Set up Firefox Sync".
If I click on that I get to a page where I can "Connect" to my Firefox sync account. Then I'm taken to a page that says I should go to the other computer and "Add a device"
The other computer also doesn't have any button called "Add a device".
We just updated both computers to the newest version of Firefox, so that can't be it. We are on Windows XP.
Please help! Thank you so much!!

If you see the "Set up Firefox Sync" button if you go the the Option > Sync tab then that means that Sync isn't installed on that computer.
You first need to create a Sync account on the first computer and then you can connect on the other computer to that sync account.

I have downloaded the Firefox Sync add on but when I select "add a device" it launces a help page which tells me to click "add a device" which is an endless circle!
    Any advice appreciated

Sorry about that. The help pages have been updated for the new "Add a device" process in Firefox 4, but the add-on for Firefox 3.6 is still using an older, different process.
You can download the Firefox 4 release candidate here and use the new "easy setup" process described in the help pages: http://firefox.com/rc
Or if you prefer to stick with Firefox 3.6, then instead of clicking "Add a device" on your computer, press the "Connect" button on your phone or other device, then click on "I am not near my computer..." and enter your email address, password, and sync key. (If you don't know your sync key, see [[Where can I find my Firefox Sync Key?]])
