Add country code to phone number automatically

Does iCloud Contacts have the ability to add the country code automatically in front of phone numbers:
e.g. if a phone number is stored as (212)555-3270; does iCloud have a batch update option where it can convert the number to +1(212)555-3270; The user may allow this automatically OR ask to be prompted.

Is there a way for me to automatically add the country
code before the phone number for all the contacts
that do not have it?
First, you must have stored somewhere what country each phone number is for. Without this, no automatic method will work.
The obvious place is in the "country" field of each Address Book entry, but keep in mind that you can have multiple addresses & multiple phone numbers for each contact, & it is possible one contact could have addresses and/or phone numbers in more than one country. This makes the problem much more difficult, particularly if there are different labels for different ones of each. (IOW, you could have an "office," a "direct," a "mobile," & a "home" phone, & a "work," a "home" & maybe even a "cabin" or "2nd home" address, not necessarily all in the same country or with an obvious address/phone relationship.)
You also would need to test each phone number to make sure it did not already have a country code entered (to avoid double codes), & some way to mark or otherwise handle entries without a country entry in any address field, with uncertain address/phone relationships, etc.
It is possible to do all this with Applescript, but frankly, even if you already knew a fair amount about scripting, it would probably take you longer to write, debug, & verify the results of applying the script than it would to go through 300 entries by hand, particularly if you use the search box or smart groups to go through the contacts one country at a time.
However, no matter what you try, you can guard against data loss by backing up the Address Book before you start (File -> Backup Address Book) & restoring from the backup if something goes wrong.

    Hi,
When editing new phones, the sistems suggest me the country code for united states, however i have my locale to spanish. How can i make the system to suggest a default country code for phone numbers (example uruguay)?

  • 1 + area code and phone number

All phone numbers are coming up 1 + area code and phone number. Is there a way to turn off the "1+" and just have area code and phone number?

In areas that have more than one area code for the same geographic area, 10 digit dialing with area code is mandatory. 1+ dialing is required from land lines, but the 1+ is optional from mobile phones.
"What is an Area Code Overlay?
An overlay is the addition of another area code to the same geographic region as an existing area code. An overlay does not require customers to change their existing area code.
What Will be the New Dialing Procedure?
To complete calls from a landline phone, the new dialing procedure requires callers to dial 1 + area code + telephone number. This means that all calls in the 310 area code that are currently dialed with seven digits will need to be dialed using 1+ area code + telephone number.
To complete calls from a cellular or mobile phone, callers may dial the area code + telephone number or 1 + area code and telephone number whenever placing a call from a phone number with an overlay area code."
Since it doesn't matter using a mobile phone, I guess the databases have included the 1+ for completeness and all users (mobile and land line) can be accommodated.

I've changed my account's country, address, and phone number because I've moved and my purchased apps (from previous country) does not appear anymore, how do I fix it?

That is the expected behavior. You will also no longer be alerted to any updates for that content.
If any of the content is sold in the new country's store and you find out through the grapevine about an update, you can update the content for free, but you will have to go through the steps for buying the update as a new purchase. Then the store will notice in the final steps that you own this content and update for free. It is the end of the road for any content from the previous country that is not sold in the current country's store. You will not be able to update the content in the new store.

  • Skype 7.0 adds country code to Mac contact phone n...

[Topic title updated by moderator to be more descriptive. Original topic title was: "Re: New Skype for Mac 7.0"]
I recently upgraded my Mac to version 7.0.
When I opened my contacts, I noticed that all of my contact numbers now had the country code +64 added to almost every phone number! I live in New Zealand (the code is +64) but most of my Skype contacts are all overseas in other countries.
Of course, there is no way for me to edit the numbers directly now in Skype. I am supposed to fix this in my Mac contacts but these are correct. It is Version 7.0 that completely goofed my contacts up!!!   Grrrrrrr......
How do I fix this problem? Otherwise, I will have to delete all of my contacts and re-enter them with the correct country codes.
Most irritating. I should be able to edit in Skype but this is impossible. Looking forward to a quick reply because this is a huge mess to fix.
    Thank you.

My contact numbers worked fine in the last version. This version 7.0 simply just added the default country code across my entire contact list containing many different country codes already.
This is really a monumental problem for those of us in international business with a wide-range of contacts across the globe.
I now have to go through my entire Mac contacts and delete or modify every single contact to ensure each one is correct.
I totally regret upgrading to Version 7.0.
One more thing: Who came up with the oscillating picture icon when connecting to a contact? It is really annoying. Its one of those weird visual things that will set off an epileptic seizure. We don't need such features...get rid of it. All I need is to see the word "Connecting."

  • Inbound texts automatically add country code, won't allow me to respond

I travel a great deal for work and spend most of my time overseas. Because of this, I have a local SIM I use in Europe (Vodafone). I have everything set up, texting, calling, data. However, everytime I receive an inbound text, the country code is automatically added, +39 in this instance. Everytime I try to respond to a text, it get the "Message Failed" notification. I AM, however, able to send texts while texting the respondents number manually, or using my contacts list, without country codes added. I've tried with Assisted Dialing off and on, with the current country configured properly. Any help with this is greatly appreciated, I've scoured Google for answers but nothing seems to work.

Yes, that worked with my son's ipod when we newly set it up.  But my daughter didn't set up her game center right away and I think that had something to do with it.
But I found the answer!!!  I kept searching the other discussions on this site and found the answer from BandomaM dated April 12, 2011.
He said to go into an existing game on the ipod that would allow multi players (we used fruit ninja).  It will then prompt you to sign in using an existing account or create a new one.  We used the existing and her Apple ID and confirmed the stuff and agreed.  Then (as BandomaM put it) "BAM!"  it worked!!!  We are thrilled.
smileyface646 - thanks so much for trying to help ~ we appreciate your time;)

  • Phone adds 011 code to a number

My phone keeps adding an international code (011) to my friend's number when I try to call her, then saying it's an international call when it's really not. However, she can call me with no issues. I deleted her contact and typed in the number on the dialer, and still it adds the code as soon as I press call. Any suggestions?

  • Add +8 before the phone number anytime I call back someone

I have a Pearl 9100 and I have the following pb:
    - let's say somebody calls me with the following number 123 456 7891
    - I hit the green button once and 123 456 7891 appears on my screen (so far so good)
    - then, when I hit the green button a second time, the call is placed and on my screen I can see the number +8 123 456 7891 and basically it never works !
Has anyone already encountered this type of pb?
thanks for any advice you could give me

    Hey Berkejulien,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
The +8 is the country code that is set in phone options , In the Phone application click Menu, Options, Smart Dialling, you can change this to the correct country code here.
    Thanks.

  • Phone doesn't accept SMS Code for phone number ver...

I've tried to get a Skype support rep. to solve my problem with no positive results. I'm now turning to the skype Community for help.
W want to have my phone number appear on the person's phone that I call. Skype says you can do this by setting up Called ID. They will send you a verrification code by SMS message. The problem is I have SMS messaging turned off on my phone, so it does not accept SMS messages, so I cannot receive the Verification Code.  Has anyone been able to get past this obsticle? Can they send me an email with the verification code?

    Sorry NMGuy,
I cannot help, as I am in the same situation as you are, and am joining my voice to yours.
I don't get SMS on my Iphone, so I cannot receive and enter the code for the caller ID option.
Skype assumes that everybody uses SMS?, and it is very difficult to get in touch with their customer support!
    Anybody has a workaround?

  • Skype wants a country code with Telephone number?  What is it

What is the country code for US.  Why does Skype need that?

Dunno why skype would want it unless it's making the contact like a phone call.

  • "add to contacts" from phone number link doesn't work, iOS 8.1

When you click on a phone number, e.g. in a Facebook messenger chat, you get the option to call the number or "add to contacts". If you click "add to contacts", the contact screen appears for a moment and closes again. I have tried a few times but it's not possible to use this feature. Seems to be a bug.
    iOS 8.1, iPhone 4S

Hey Kalii, I also have the same problem here. I'm in Hong-Kong with 3 network and iOs 8.1.1
Was working all fine when I bought the Iphone 6 about 2 weeks ago. Go to Thailand over the weekend and when I get back impossible to reconnect to the network.
Tried to force restart, tried to loose wifi and reconnect, tried to restore network and tried the airplane mode on-off..... nothing works!
Not sure if changing the sim will do anything, I'm sure it's the Iphone 6 antenna or software itself that got a problem!

  • How to add "1" in front of area code and phone number?

The phone numbers I imported into my iPhone from my Address Book don't have a "1" in front of them. So now, when I'm out of town and want to dial a number from Contacts, an automated message from my carrier tells me the number I'm dialing is long distance and requires a "1" at the beginning. On my old Treo, I could add a "1" in the "Dialing" set-up menu. The system knew enough to ignore it for local calls but enabled it for long distance calls. Is there no way to do this on iPhone? Many thanks.

This is one of the many lacking iPhone features that I've taken for granted in other basic cell phones for years. Ironically, the iPhone's weakest part is the phone.
Rogers will put through a call that has been dialed without the "1", but only after listening to a lengthy message that encourages you to program all of your phone numbers with the "1".
Sure, you can prepend a "1" before all phone numbers in your address book, however, that will cause problems if you share your address book with your computer and use an autodialer on your computer, because most land lines won't tolerate the "1" before a local number.
