Add desktop icon (+ sign) using Mission Control

Just discovered this little detail when arranging my desktop and dock.
The plus sign, add a desktop button / icon moves from right to left, when using mission control, depending on the location of your dock.  If the dock is at the center bottom or left, the icon appears to the right side of the screen.  If the dock is on the right side of the screen, the icon moves to the left.
It was driving me crazy when I could not add a desktop using mission control, when I scrolled to the left and it appeared.
Hope this tidbit helps someone out.
Cheers!

Thanks for the tip, but that's just STUPID! The "plus" sign should appear wherever your hot corner is. I could understand it working for those that strictly use F-keys, but the programmers obviously didn't think of anyone, but themselves. Who is the moron that came up with this system programming solution (or lack there of)?

  • How can one use Mission Control with two monitors?  Please bring Spaces back

How can one use Mission Control with two monitors.  With Spaces I could treat each space as a single desktop.
    SyBB

I use two monitors at work and have no issue. I have my mail set to use Desktop 1 and iTunes set to the second monitor of Desktop 1. I have browsers set to Desktop 2 and Fusion and RDC set to Desktop 3.
Two things that may help you. In System Preferences > Mission Control, disable the setting "Automatically rearrange spaces...". This screwed with assigning applications to certain spaces. And the other thing is don't use full screen on apps that support it. This just makes your second monitor superfluous.

  • HT4689 do i have to use mission control or can i set it to another method ?

I don't have a sensor mouse, i am using an old mouse and don't really feel like buying a whole new mouse.  Do I have to use mission control or can I get an app to customize the computer to my personal style?

Mission Control is just one way someone can navigate their mac.
    I personally never use it.
There are plenty of application for using your mac, but there are a lot of built in shortcuts you can make for it too.
If you did, sort of want to use mission control, but don't have a touch sensitive device to bring it up, you can do a couple of things that the mac already is capable of doing without having to purchase anything new or download a third party app.
    1. Hot Corners.
Hot corners are a way to access some of the most important tasks for your computer. you can set hot corners in System Preferences>Mission Control then click "Hot Corners" button on the bottom left of the window and the settings will slide down and look like this. Choose the pulldown menu for whichever corner you want mission control to be in and then move your mouse cursor to that corner. As you can see there are other options for hot corners to help you better control and customize your machine.
    2. Spotlight.
spotlight is a powerful tool and is often times overlooked by novices.
hit cmd and space bar at the same time (cmd+spacebar) and up pops a search box in the upper right corner of your screen. start typing an application or a file you want to be opened. spotlight automagically begins guessing what you're searcing for.
I use spotlight a lot and it keeps my desktop very clean of anything that I'm not working on or with.
if the first selection in the list is what you wanted you can hit enter. Sometimes all I need to do is type in a few letters and then "enter" and the application is loading up in no time. It also bring open apps to the front.
    3. Keyboard Shortcuts
there is a way to make your keyboard's Function keys act as "hotspots" as well.
go to system preferences>keyboard and you can set your own keyboard shortcuts or see the ones that are preset in OSX. These are here to help you navigate your mac faster.
Another keyboard shortcut I like is cmd+tab. if you hold down the command key, and you tap on the Tab key, a thing called "Application Switcher" appears. This lets you see what is open and also lets you select which one you want to come to the forefront. you can continue to hold the command key down after hitting tab to use your cursor to select the application or continually hit tab with the command key down until it is highlighting the app you want.
Not completely sure what you wanted or didn't want mission control for or what alternatives you wanted to know but here are a few that will make your workflow fast and you, one step closer to being a power user.

  • Using mission control/spaces on extended displays

Is there a way to assign spaces and use mission control on an extended display (i.e. LCD TV) on 10.7.1?  I have connected an LCD TV as an external display to my MBP. When switching spaces on my MBP (primary) display, the external monitor transitions as well.  I have been unsuccessful utilizing multiple spaces strictly on my external display or having a static dispaly when switching spaces.  I would like to be able to switch spaces independently on each display or make a static desktop on my extended display.  Thanks

When I'm working with any other apps on my system, I can take advantage of Mission Control, but have forego these advantages when using the Creative Suite. Isn't it really about time that Adobe put some effort into supporting these OS-level features. Whether you favour Mac OS or Windows, you should be able to take advantages of the system you prefer to work on.
Is there any word on whether CS6 will support these features? (I'm not exactly holding my breath).
There is no word on anything about InDesign CS6 yet. (Those who know can't say, and I'm not aware of any substantive leaked information.)
I think that Spaces/Mission Control support is probably predicated on the Carbon to Cocoa conversion. So until InDesign is a Cocoa app, this is unlikely to improve. Personally I manage to avoid using Spaces to any significant degree, so I don't really notice these things. Have you tried Photoshop, which is a Cocoa app? Does it behave better?
I don't know to what extent these issues are specific to the app, or all tied up in libraries that are common to all the Adobe apps.

  • Add change Icon in the Table Control tool bar.

    Hi Abapers,
I need to add "change" icon in the table control. I added it but when I click on it is not working.
My requirement is that when I run my custom report, all the fields should be shown is in display mode. Then when I click on the "change" icon, all fields should be enabled for change.
I have already referred to the standard progs BCALV_* but it does not have the "change" icon.
plz give me any reference prg or sample code.
    Thanks
    Nani.

    Hi Nani,
Track the function code of change icon in user command. if it is clicked then put a flag eq X.
check that flag in PBO, if it is eq X then screen-input = 1 or vice versa.
    try this code:
    in PBO:
    LOOP AT SCREEN
    IF WS_EDIT = 'X'
    SCREEN-INPUT = 1
    ELSE
    SCREEN-INPUT = 0
    ENDIF
    MODIFY SCREEN
    ENDLOOP
    Hope it will work fine

  • Indesign cs6 menu and tool bar disappear between windows using mission control in mountain lion

heres 2  screen grabs before and after. while navigating between 'spaces' using mission control in mountain lion. issue -  the menu and tools bars disappear - not all of them just parts of them. to get back i hit 'tab' button twice which hides and shows tools. very annoying - does anyone know of a fix or is this another bug which i have to live with. im using a macpro june 2012/running 10.8.4 and 2 screens - left for artboard - right for all tool windows.

thanks steve - yes that works as does using the tab key - all well....until i move to another 'space' and then come back again.
for example: my setup is like this - no2 space has indesign project. no3 space has photoshop. so im working on a page within indesign and i need to edit an image- i double click the pic and it opens in photoshop on the other 'space' save the file and go back to indesign to update pic and find menu/tools all over the place - so hit tab twice back to normal -  until i 'move' out of that space into another - photoshop/ mail/ whatever - as i toggle between spaces the indesign menu will always be 'corrupt' for a better word. hope that makes sense.

  • How are desktops (spaces) renamed in Mission Control?

How are desktops (spaces) renamed in Mission Control?

Naming in Spaces is a bit odd. If you create desktop spaces they are named Desktop 1 etc. If you put a program into fullscreen mode and go to Mission Control that program will appear under its name....as long as its just the one Window. But, if you have two different Safari windows - say one at Apple and one at Google - and put both of them into fullscreen mode when you go into Mission Control they now appear with the name of the document. Grrrr.

  • Moving Between Apps Using Mission Control

    Hello,
Does anyone know of way that I can quickly move between apps using the arrow keys and Mission Control?  For example, in Snow Leopard if I use Mission Control (F3) I could easily move between all of my apps and/or multiple instances of an app by using the arrow keys.
In Lion if use Mission Control the apps come up but I have to actually click on the one the app that I want to bring up.
    Thanks,
    Brian

I use the three finger swipe:
The three finger swipe works in Mission Control too. There are lots of ways to accomplish this.
⌘ Tab works for all open apps, including those that are "minimized".

  • Split Window using Mission Control

    Lion 10.7.2
    13" MacBook Pro
I would like to be able to work with two programs, each occupying half of the screen, TurboTax and a word processor or spread sheet. I will not be able to copy and paste.
Is there a way to do this using Mission Control, splitting the screen into two windows? If not, is there a way to accomplish this?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Can I permanently allocate programs to different Spaces using Mission Control?

ie. Will they re-open in previously allocated spaces after shut down or quitting the program?
I have created 4 desktop spaces, and know how to put different programs/windows into different spaces, but I haven't been able to work out how to have them re-open in those spaces each time, without having to manually move them there. You used to be able to do this in Expose and Spaces, but can you do it with Mission Control?

    Jose,
Click and hold the Application icon in the Dock, and you will be offered this contextual menu to make your choice:

  • Can't drag folders or files between apps using mission control

I've been using Lion without any incident so far, but now that I've downloaded the lastest update (10.7.2) I can't drag a file or folder using mouse click (or my wacom tablet) between apps or folders - gestures simply will not work.
Once I click on a file, the multi-touchpad stop responding - if this is for real, Mac just lost it's allure... the nimble feature of exposé and/or mission control was this sole ability to navigate through apps and draggin files.
What's the status, anyone got this issue already?

I've been encountering the exact same problem! that was my favourite multi-touch gesture of all, which improved the productivity greatly. The only workaround for me is to assign hot-corners to mission control and drag files i want to the corners, but I really hope there's an explanation for this because i would really like that feature to be back

  • How to use Mission Control - SOLVED!

I understood the basics on Mission Control, but I'm not the only person who has struggled with how to use its other features. Even blogs and major magazine articles have been foggy on the details.

Finally, we have a way to customize Mission Control so that it works with multiple applicaions and wallpapers. This brings the user much closer to the full functionality of the original Spaces.

  • Desktop icon fields description and control

    Hello,
the are several fields in the icon that are on my desktop.
I can click on the upper left corner what does that do ?
There is always a big blue arrow on the lower left cornerseems to be useless because all my icons have it, so it does not indicate any specific action or fact for the icon.
The image of the website comes as a tiny picture in the midle of a big white square, making the website's picture almost invisible.
All my imported from XP desktop icons are identical...Takes terrible time to open the website and then drag n drop the website's image.
How to have a descent and usable desktop ?
    Thanks and regards, J. Bouchard

    Hello,
still fighting with shotcuts on the desktop.
1-- browser.shell.shortcutFavicons is NOT documented in the fields descriptions of about:config
2--someshortcuts are showing the image but in a tiny size in the midle of a large white square (Windows 7)
3--I found a strange situation where the shortcut is FF while the delete shows the correct image (Window 7)
4-- XP shortcuts compare with W7 of item 1
Hope you can help me to stick to FireFox.

  • HT4689 Why I can't I see my file names when using Mission Control?

It's not uncommon for me to have multiple Word Documents open at once and it's extremely annoying that they are no longer labeled like they used to be when I used "Hot Corners" in Snow Leopard.  I missed out entirely on Lion but just bought an iPhone and figured I might as well upgrade to Moutain Lion on my computer while I was at it. Anyone else hate this particular feature of Mountain Lion or know how to solve it?  I have already unchecked "Group Windows by Application" so at least they're no longer in a stack (thanks, Support Community!), but I still want to be able to differentiate between them at a glance. Any help is appreciated!  I'm a longtime Mac user and not used to being so frustrated with my devices.

I was hoping that this would be fixed in the 10.8.2 upgrade but it has not.  Anyone have any luck?  Earlier today I was trying to write a paper and navigating between 10 pdfs was a nightmare without being able to hover my mouse for the titles like I used to.
