Apple Configurator and Mass Device Set-up
I’m having some issues with iPads using the Apple Configurator and a Bretford Cart. I submitted this to my lovely Apple account team, however they have not acknowledged or replied to me. I could really use some help with this one!! PLEASE
I have a deployment of about 1000 iPads. The initial deployment is over but we collect them and redeploy them.
Here is what I do with the cart.
Load iPads in to it.
Update to the latest iOS (if approved internally).
Restore a backup of an iPad configured with customized wallpaper.
Install a profile that contains a webclip to our MDM install.
The devices ARE not supervised, nor do I want to supervise them in any way. We have an MDM and do not need or want device supervision.
This used to work for me with minor issues.
Now I’m having some problems.
In particular:
On some devices, I no longer get the choice to select “Next” at choose a Network connection. Sometimes I get it and it allows me to go to choose “Continue without Wifi” and I’m good to go. Sometimes I don’t have this choice and that is an issue. Why is this happening? (Incidentally, when I erase all content and settings of a device that HAS allowed me to choose Next and Continue without Wifi, when it is restored, the option is no longer there.)
After the update and backup is restored, I have to go through the Hello and Welcome screens before I can install a profile. Why?
When I install profiles, it allows me to only install 1 profile at a time. This does not work for me. Why did this change in Apple Configurator?
What used to be a fairly simple process is now becoming kind of a pain. I’ve searched Apple forums and it seems others are having the same issues. Are you able to help or give advice on a better way to do this?
I have about 1000 iPads deployed and need to find the smoothest way to go about doing this.
Thank you for any help or advice.Yes, an MDM is your best bet. If you aren't currently using an MDM and want to try one out, there is a free MDM solution by Meraki called Systems Manager. http://www.meraki.com/products/systems-manager/ . They have a location feature that might help you. The MDM can also allow you to lock the screen or do a remote wipe to keep the thief from accessing the data on the iPad.
You can also have your users sign up with the Find My iPad app http://www.apple.com/ipad/find-my-ipad.html to help locate a stolen iPad.
As ryanm512 said, if you Supervise your iPads in Apple Configurator the iPads can only be unsupervised using the computer that Supervised them.
However, everything is out the window if the thief resets the iPad when its not connected to a network. Once wiped clean, the MDM and Find My iPad won't work.

Preparing an iOS device with Apple Configurator and Profiles
Hi,
I am using Apple configurator 1.5 to prepare iPods with an updated iOS, backup and profile. Up until recently, I was able to install the the updates and the backup but the profile is not being send to the device. I have to stop the "prepare" setup and manually add the profile to each device.I recommend posting in the iPhone or iPad for the Enterprise forums

can any Ipads forward video & music through your local network to a device(tv) like an android or surface tablet
Had the same issue here. Here is the best solution I have found so far:
Hotspot + Pepwave Max On-The-Go (w/ Load Balancing) + Airport Extreme
I have a VZW MiFi, but I believe this set-up will work with other hotspot devices. I actually have 2 MiFi Hotspots with a monthly allowance of 20G each. They are plugged directly into the Pepwave router (aka, tethered). (Note: you have to have the right cable to do this. The one that came with my Hotspot was only for charging.) If, for some reason, you cannot tether with your Hotspot device, you want a router that offers WiFi as WAN. The Pepwave will do this. The Pepwave is connected to my Airport Extreme via ethernet cable. I have the WiFi on the MiFis and the Pepwave turned off. So the only visible network is my Airport Extreme. The Pepwave is essentially just functioning as a modem.
I used to have a Cradlepoint, but I did not find it very user friendly--too complex for home use. The Pepwave Max OTG is awesome. I got the one with Load Balancing so it allows you to connect up to 4 cellular devices. If you only need the one Hotspot, you can just get the cheaper Pepwave Max OTG. The Pepwave allows me to run off one of the MiFis until I hit my 20G/month allowance, then it automatically switches to the other one. That way I never max-out on my monthly data allowance. Additionally, it gives you a real-time, hourly, daily and monthly running tally on data usage.
The guys at the 3Gstore are excellent and can help you figure out the best solution for your situation. -
Discovery Server - configuration and abap changes allowed?
Hello -
We are thinking about deploying a ESA Discovery Server, specifically for exploring ERP 2005. We may use this as a way to get one of our project teams busy doing proto-types, while we build out a true ERP 2005 Dev/Qual/Prod environment for them.
I anticipate that some of our project team members will want to create transports of config and/or ABAP code. And, would ultimately like us to export/import this into a DEV system, once it is built.
Is anyone aware of any restrictions for using the ESA Discovery Server, in a fashion like this? Or, any restrictions about importing transports into the ERP 2005 instance within Discovery Server (except the obvious version compatibility issues, etc.)
thank you,
SteveHi Steve,
As long as you ahve the appropriate ABAP development licenses you should be fine. The software which is installed is the exact same software which you will later download from service marketplace or obtain via DVD from SAP. Therefore, technically it should work fine. Of course, you will need to ensure the transport mechanism is configured properly for your environment. -
LMS 3.1 Device Discovery
Hi, Having had a fully operational version of Ciscoworks on a very old server we were advised to move it to a virtual server, with a new IP address. Unfortunately since then the device discovery is not collecting data on all devices on our network, and showing them as unreachable. Even though I have replaced the IP address in the configs on the network switches.
The odd thing is that it is finding 6 devices but not all of them. Just wondered if this is something anyone out there has seen before that may be able to shed some light for me.
Thanks
JoHi,
Kindly make sure all the device are snmp reachable with the new IP from the CiscoWorks Server. However more information will be found by enabling the debugging for Device Discovery and then try to run the Device Discovery again.
To enable the debug for Device Discovery , kindly to Common Services > Device & Credentials > Device Discovery > Discovery Logging Configuration > select the modules you are using for device discovery along with Data Collector, Discovery DeviceInfo , Discovery Framework, Discovery util and run the device discovery again and then send the ngdiscovery.log from CSCOpx\log location.
Also kindly make sure you have make the required changes on the Schedule discovery settings as well since Schedule discovery have its own settings for Device Discovery as compared with Ad hoc Discovery settings.
Here is the good doc link created by Sir Joseph Clarke to understand the Device Discovery and for troubleshooting purposes.
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9005
Note :- ngdiscovery.log contain information about the IP address of your device in the network.
Thanks,

How to check space on asm and raw device?
Hi All,
I want to know how to check the space on asm device.
we are using asm device which is on raw partition.
Our archive gets full.I need to check the space on asm archve partiotion.
how can i check the archive destination space?
we are using raw device partition for crs and voting device.
how can we check the space on raw device and how can we know which device is in use and which are not in use
Thanks in advance4 - 5 raw partitions...
What oracle version?
Install OCR + VOTE in raw device better than OCFS2. if you use 10g to 11gR1.
If use 11gR2,keep OCR + VOTE in ASM Disk Group.
you can check which raw device OCR:
$ ocrcheck
VOTEDISK:
$ crsctl query css votedisk
On 10g if use raw device for OCR + votedisk: recommend 1 file = 250M
11g recommend 1 file = 512M
Good Luck -
"waht you hear" (disabled and unplugged devices checked) not in recording devices
["waht you hear" (disabled and unplugged devices checked) not in recording devices? I have scoured the windows7 and creative forums and cannot find a solution.
PLEASE HELP!
I did a fresh re-install of windows7 32bit.
The previous install was running Creative Driver .04.0900 for an onboard Sound Blaster 24bit
chip(CA006-DAT), on a MSI/K8N/NEO4/SLI/Platinium mobo.
I open audio controls, then recording devices. Check disabled and disconnected devices.
"What you hear" appears and I am able to beat match Arkaos, R4, Gforce,...
The current install, same hardware, installed Creative Driver .04.0900 as well as Creative
Audio Control Panel and Creative software Autoupdate thru Windows Update.
I open audio controls, then recording devices. Disabled and disconnected devices were already
checked. "What you hear" not listed, only Microphone, CD Audio, & Line-In.
If I open properties for devices, Recording or Playback, there is now a Sound Blaster tab. Open SB
tab and select settings for Creative Audio Control Panel.
Hedphone Detec., Performance, Restore Defaults, Speakers, EAX Effects, CMSS-3D, SPDIF I/O tabs on
panel.
"What you hear" device shows up nowhere. If u have a Dell Branded X-FI sound card and are using vista there is no "what u hear" go to the Dell XPS forum and read the FAQ at the top of the forum. "Stereo Mix/What you hear/waveout mix"

How to add and configure a usb device driver in SRSS for Sunray?
Dear Sir,
If I want to use a usb device on Sunray 2 (the usb device is plugged into Sunray's usb port), and I have been developed a usb driver on Solaris 10. Can I install the same driver in SRSS host to active the usb device in Sunray? If it can, how do I configure SRSS and where is the location of SRSS drivers? Can I use add_drv similar command to add my driver to SRSS?
The second question is when I plug-in a usb device to Sunray, can I see device information (VID, PID, and so on) in any log file or by any command as "prtconf -v" on Solaris?
Thank you very much.
Best Regards,
StevenWhat sort of USB device do you want to use ?
The peripherals chapter in the SRSS admin guide tells you how to use supported USB devices.
http://docs.sun.com/source/819-2384/dev.html
Drivers written for Solaris devices will not work with Sun Ray devices. If you want to write a device driver for Sun Ray, it is recommended you use libusb for a userland driver. See libusb notes on same chapter mentioned above.
There is currently no SRSS utility to list Sun Ray device parameters like prtconf does.
You could write a libusb application to do this, or use the test program described here:

I originally posted this question to the community section and was advised to post it here. Please bear with me as this will be a long post. I'm including the scenarios involving this reoccurring issue, the trouble shooting steps I've already
taken and the results of several diagnostic tools and logs.
I have a Sony VAIOS VPCEBB33FM lap top since 2011. I have had this issue on an off for a long time. I'm at my wit's end. Any new insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Scenario Details
1) Some times it's on and off through out the day, sometimes it won't work all day, and once in a while it will work fine for the entire day.
2) I've had this issue across several wireless services, Clear Network accessed with WiMax, Library Wi-fi, Comcast cable internet using wireless router and Wi-fi, and Comcast Xfinity Wi-Fi, to name a few examples.
3) Other devices in the household or library will work with no problems such as my smart phone or my roommates' laptops or desktop computers.
4) Once in a while, the built-in wireless adapter is not found and I have to reinstall the driver. Also the diagnostic tool has had to reset my adapter on an increasing basis.
5) I had my hard drive replaced in December 2014 and my system restored from the System Restore disks that came with it when I bought the laptop. Even though I've been online on an infrequent basis it worked just fine for a while. Now that
I've been online a bit more I'm having the same issues again.
Below are my attempts at trouble shooting so far but I still have not been able to consistently resolve my DNS issues
1) Restarting my adapter
2) Turning off my laptop and removing the power supply for 5-10 minutes before turning it back on.
3) Using the IP Config in Command Prompt
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
4) Using the NetSh reset in Command Prompt and restarting my laptop
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /flushdns
[restart laptop]
5) Configuring the TCP/IP in several settings
Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties.
I have used the following settings:
a) Obtain an DNS server address automatically
b) OpenDNS
208 67 222 222
208 67 220 220
c) Google DNS
8 8 8 8
8 8 4 4
6) Updating the driver for my Intel Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6250 AGN and Intel Centrino(R) WIMAX 6250 from the Intel website previous having my laptop wiped clean in 2014. It still did not resolve the issue. My laptop
manufacturer as not come up with an driver update for my adapter since 2010. I haven't tried to update the adapter driver from Intel's website since having my laptop repaired due to the fact that Intel strongly recommending using the manufacturer's updates
instead and frankly it didn't make much of a difference when I did it the first time.
7) The last one I've tried as of today is going into Services and changing the start up type to automatic for the following:
Computer Browser [changed from manual to automatic]
DHCP Client [already set to automatic]
DNS Client [already set to automatic]
Network Connections [already set to automatic]
Network Location Awareness [changed from manual to automatic]
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [already set to automatic]
Server [already set to automatic]
TCP/IP Netbios helper [already set to automatic]
Workstation [already set to automatic]
...and I'm still having DNS issues.
My only guessing are that my laptop came with a lemon adapter that needs to be replaced, some advanced setting(s) that I'm not aware off, or my firewall/anti-virus is interfering. I've used Symmantic Anti-virus and Firewall in the past and currently
Avast Anti-Virus with Microsoft Network Firewall. I've had DNS issues with both anti-virus/firewall set ups.
Below are the results from the diagnostics and tests that I've ran.

I am trying to add music to my computer and then put it on a usb storage device
ok i havent used a computer in a very long time and the last time i did things seemed a whole lot easier. i got a new laptop for valentines day and i still aint figured this thing out. what i am trying to do is add all my music cds to my computer, make some playlists, then download the music to a usb storage device so i can have the music in my truck.
when i put a cd in my computer it pops up and it starts playing but i have no clue as what to do next. i have tried to make a playlist through the player that pops up and plays the music but aint having any luck. IM CLUELESS!!!! nothing ive tried has wroked, i need help please.
thank you in advanceHi,
The below link shows how to create playlist in Itunes. Once the playlist is created, if you are using apple Ipod or any other apple product. Then once you connect the device it will start the sync with the device and then you can start playing.
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12340
If you are using another device, then please do mention the device to which you want to sync the music and which player are using on the system.

I am unable to update devices with Apple Configurator because of this message - unable to send ClearPasscode command to device - I am running Configurator 1.5 and ios 7.1.1. I am unable to rename/number devices. How can I get rid of this error message.
I've just seen this message for the first time and it's showing on 10 devices.
What I really love about Apple Configurator is the copious amount of context driven help offered to you.

DMVPN/preshared key configured and device stolen
Hello,
I have a question on DMVPN solutions where device is already configured with a preshared key and expected to be a part of a network once the device is fired up.
Now what if this device (e.g. router) is stolen and plugged to the Internet? I believe it will establish a connection with a hub router because preshared keys, DMVPN config are matching and is there a solution to prevent this?
I know it is a physical security question however I need to consider this rare scenario.
Thanks,
Deepak AmbotkarThe solution for that problem is to use digital certificates which is a best-practice for DMVPN. For that you can also use an IOS-router as a CA-server.
If you decide against certificates, the you can at least use PSK-encryption. That doesn't help against stolen devices, but helps against rouge spokes when someone can get the client-config.
Don't stop after you've improved your network! Improve the world by lending money to the working poor:

I just down loaded itones to my computer, then bought a bunch of music. How do I add the songs to my mp3 player. When I go to "file" and then devices the button that says sync isn't availlible to push, so I cant put the music on my mp3??? Help
itunes will only sync with an ios device.
On the other hand, if you have a usb cord for your mp3 player, and you know what FOLDER your itunes music is located in (and for me its located at C:\Users\YOUR NAME HERE\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media )
you can just select that folder and copy it to your mp3 player.
typically when you first plug in something like an mp3 player you get a windows alert asking if you want to view the contents of the device- say yes. copy your itunes folder to the music folder on your mp3 player.
