Add display of CMYK values for skin tone balancing

Add a toggle to display CMYK values in lieu of RGB under the histogram, or some other method of displaying values. Checking that Y > M is one of the simplest and most reliable ways to verify that skintones appear typical and do not appear sunburned. Even with a calibrated monitor the numbers are worth a check. This is one of the more frequent reasons I fire up Photoshop on images that don't need actual editing.

1. Place PDF in InDesign
2. Make a new CMYK spot color, defined 100C 100M 100Y 100K
3. In Ink Manager, find spot color of the PDF in the list.
4. In the ink alias for this, pull down and select the spot color you created in step 2
5. Still in the Ink Manager - beside the spot color you created in step 2, click once on the spot icon on the left to change it to process
6. Output a new PDF from InDesign
Once you have the InDesign file set up, all the work is done for any future PDF files you place. InDesign simply takes the spot color in the original PDF (ie Pantone 293 C) and maps it to your 100 CMYK spot. The 100 CMYK spot is in turn forced to process by the ink manager (the ink manager can be accessed in the flyout in the swatches panel)

  • What color value is skin tone?

    If I want to push skin tone in the Colour Board (Apple's rectangular version of the "colour wheel") in a colour adjustment, should I be pushing at 30 degrees?
    The FCPX user manual says in "Vectorscope display options",
    "Show/Hide Skin Tone Indicator: Shows or hides the diagonal line that represents the human skin tone chroma phase, which is between the yellow and red color bar targets."
    It doesn't say if the skin tone indicator is exactly between yellow and red, i.e. pure orange, which would be 30 degrees, or just somewhere between red and yellow.
    I found this in a Larry Jordan article,
    "Regardless which race or ethnic group our actors are a part of, all of us have the same red blood under our skins. This line (skin tone indicator) represents the color of red blood under skin. In general, when you want to make skin tones look normal and believable, you want them within a couple of degrees of this line. Above the line leans ruddy, below the line leans sallow."
    So, is the red blood under our skin pure orange, i.e. 30 degrees in the Colour Board, i.e. exactly mid way between red (zero degrees) and yellow (60 degrees), or is it some other value?

    Many thanks for all your help.  I suppose I am trying to arrive at really nice cinematic looking skin tones, but with my Canon 550d and very limited knowledge of setting up shots and film making, pushing skin tone and playing with the colour board alone will not get me those appealing skin tones.  Attached are some interesting ones, but how to achieve them?  I need to keep learning, and perhaps have a good lot of cash for gear ..

  • Display only positive values for a particular Keyfigure

    Hi..
    (Sorry, I accidentally posted this also in Datawarehousing forum, actually it related to BeX forum).
    For a particular column(keyfigure) in my report, the user wants to display only positive values.
    I used the formula from the one of the forums
    (Keyfig > 0)* Keyfig.
    This displays only positive values in the column as required. But, the result for this column is also affected. As the result is negative, it shows, zero in the result for this column.
    Is there a way in which the result will not be affected by the formula?
    I went into the properties of the particular keyfigure and chose Calculate Result as -> Summation.
    It throws out the following error message
    'Calculating result as...' was not executed
    Message no. BRAIN141
    Diagnosis
    The function 'Calculate Results as ...' could not be used in all
    instances.
    The recalculation of a result cell always occurs based on the set of
    detailed cells subordinated to this cell. This is the most detailed
    level of the drilldown. Therefore it is not posible to recalculate in
    hierarchical lists. The calculation of a results cell is not performed
    if a cell or column with an expand symbol is assigned beneath it.
    Otherwise the newly calculated result is changed every time one of its
    lower-level nodes is expanded. This is not supported for technical
    reasons and would also only confuse users.
    Note, however, that calculating with "Suppress Results" is always
    executed because the restriction described above does not apply in this
    case.
    NOTE:
    The query shows the keyfigure values for a selected title, for profit center and territory hierarchies.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sai.

    Hi Deepu,
    Thanks for the reply. I tried with ur formula.
    LEAF(keyfig) gives all values "zero" for that particular column including the result.
    NOT LEAF(keyfig) gives all values "one" for that particular column including the result.
    So, ur formula gives the same values as of the present column values.

  • - How to Display Sales Qty & Value for This Year & Last Year in 2 Columns -

    Dear All,
    I'm having trouble in extracting the last year figures based date entered. I'm actually would like to create a query where I'm able to know the "TOP 10 item sold based item category". I've created a query, which show the top10 item sold (total quantity & value) for this year, but not able to display the last year figure (quantity). Please advise & thanks for your help and time.
    SET ROWCOUNT 10
    SELECT T1.ItemCode, T2.ItemName, T3.ItmsGrpNam, SUM(T1.Quantity) as "Total Qty Sold", SUM(T1.TotalSumSy) as "Total Amount"
    FROM ODLN T0  INNER JOIN DLN1 T1 ON T0.DocEntry = T1.DocEntry INNER JOIN OITM T2 ON T1.ItemCode = T2.ItemCode INNER JOIN OITB T3 ON T2.ItmsGrpCod = T3.ItmsGrpCod
    WHERE T0.DocDate >='[%0]' AND  T0.DocDate <='[%1]' AND  T3.ItmsGrpNam ='[%A]'
    GROUP BY T1.ItemCode, T2.ItemName, T3.ItmsGrpNam
    ORDER by SUM(T1.Quantity) DESC
    I wish to have the output as follow
    Item   Qty (2008)  Qty (2007)    Value(2008)   Value(2007)
    A       300             150               1000                      500

    Hi,
    if you want more flexible, you could try this modified Istvan's query:
    SELECT top 10 T1.ItemCode, T2.ItemName, T3.ItmsGrpNam,   SUM(T1.Quantity) as "Total Qty Sold",
      SUM(T1.TotalSumSy) as "Total Amount" ,
      (select sum (r.Quantity) from ODLN h
         inner join DLN1 r on h.DocEntry=r.DocEntry
         where h.DocDate>='[%4]' and h.DocDate<='[%5]'
             and r.ItemCode=T1.ItemCode) '2007 Sold',
      (select sum (r.TotalSumSy) from ODLN h
         inner join DLN1 r on h.DocEntry=r.DocEntry
         where h.DocDate>='[%6]' and h.DocDate<='[%7]'
             and r.ItemCode=T1.ItemCode) '2007 Amount'
    FROM ODLN T0 INNER JOIN DLN1 T1 ON T0.DocEntry = T1.DocEntry INNER JOIN OITM T2 ON T1.ItemCode = T2.ItemCode INNER JOIN OITB T3 ON T2.ItmsGrpCod = T3.ItmsGrpCod
    WHERE T0.DocDate >='[%0]' AND T0.DocDate <='[%1]' AND T3.ItmsGrpNam between '[%2]'  and '[%3]'

  • Display planned depreciation values for depre areas

    Hi,
    I have 2 depreciation areas, 01 for book and 04 for local depreciation.
    How do I display the periodic depre values for 04 in asset explorer posted values tab  if I don't want to maintain a derived depre area?
    Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi,
    if area 04 does not post, you will not get any info on the "posted" values tab. Simply because this area does NOT post to G/L then.
    Only parallel depreciation areas, or real depreciation areas which are part of the definition of a POSTING derived depreciation area get also period values stored, this is the exception.  But a standalone real depreciation area, which does not post and which is not parallel will not store period depreciation values.

  • CMYK values for black

    I know 100% K is not the blackest black, and I know that there are color values that will get me the blackest black, I just misplaced my cheat sheet, and can't remember what they were. I thought sure I could find them through some forum searches, but no luck for the cmyk values.
    thanks for your input

    Try opening a CMYK Photoshop file with the colour settings as you want them (gloss, newsprint, wotever). Click on the little squares at bottom left of the Foreground/Background sample at the bottom of the Toolbox so that they become black and white. With Info open, read off the CMYK values that Photoshop gives you for black. That way you'll get a pretty good dense black that suits the type of printing you're dealing with.
    It's all a question of total ink density and how much undercover removal you want. And that all depends on the sort of paper you're going to be printing on.
    Be careful though, if you want to put white lettering on a CMYK black area. If the lettering is small, you will probably need to make a non-overprinting 100%K trap so that the CMYK colours don't flood into the white letters.

  • Skin tone balance? (as opposed to white balance)

    much like there's a way of automating white balance (through the eye-dropper or auto-WB), i wonder if there's a way of matching skin tones. is there some sort of "match hue" option where you can make someone's forehead be the same hue in every photo (without doing it manually)?
    there's such an option in apple's final cut pro in the 3-way color corrector. it's a very handy and time-saving feature.
    thanks!

    This is only half the answer. Have you seriously tried to edit large numbers of files with this method? It's an exercise in frustration.
    I just started up Aperture to see how many Tabs it takes to go from White Balance to Exposure, 7 from memory as it highlights every sub-menu along the way. I say from Memory because it decides this time (a first) it's not going to move to the next field no matter how many times Tab is pressed. And when my workflow is Exposure, then White Balance, (don't get me started about bright sparks who tell you to do it the other way), then H&S, then Saturation, which is how many Tabs? Somewhere between 35 and 40. And you have to take your eyes of the screen to see where you are.
    I've said this quite a few times in these forums, and yes, I have posted a number of times in the feedback, that the best implementation of this is Capture 1 where (on PC) Control +/- controls exposure, Shift +/- White Balance etc. And it works perfectly on a network, unlike Bridge which just keeps crashing.
    As someone who edits anywhere between 1100 and 2000 CR2 files a week there is no way I could use Aperture in our Companies workflow. I use it for my personal work where time and volume are not crucial considerations but file management is.
    Even though Capture 1 is long in the tooth, ie no H&S, no Recovery yadda, yadda, yadda, to my knowledge no other Professional level RAW processor has this direct entry of important adjustment values and once used any other method is just tedious.
    While I love most of the other features, in my opinion, the Tab method of moving between adjustments as implemented in Aperture is half baked and very buggy.
    End of rant.
    Cheers,
    Terry

  • Displaying only one value for a key figure

    Hi guys,
    I am building a query in BEx Analyzer (v 3.5) where I am facing a difficult requirement.
    In the cube I have the following structure:
    Bank Account | Date | (.....) | KF: Amount | KF:Closing Balance
    A                   | 29.10.2008  | 300             |  5000
    A                   | 29.10.2008  | 100             |  5000
    A                   | 29.10.2008  | 600             |  5000
    As you can see there is one entry for every movement on the account for each day, while the closing balance is the same and entered for each record.
    It is not an option to change this logic in the source system.
    The problem is that I don't have any differentiating characteristics that is useful for the query and I only want to display the closing balance once (i.e. 5000). Now I am getting 15000.
    Is there any way to do this without adding new characteristics?
    Will appreciate all ideas!
    Br,
    TM

    Hi TM,
    Did you try with the aggregation: Set this to Maximum in stead of Sum.
    Success,
    Udo

  • Values for htmldb_item.text  field do not display in CSV output

    HTML DB experts,
    I have a report query with the following 2 items in the SELECT statement:
    wwv_flow_item.display_and_save(2, DOC_CD, 10) DOC_CD,
    htmldb_item.text(3, DOC_DESC, 50, 255) DOC_DESC
    I have enabled the CSV output for this report. The problem is, when I generate a csv file, only the DOC_CD (wwv_flow_item.display_and_save) displays. The values for the DOC_DESC (htmldb_item.text) do not display. What do I need to do to get the DOC_DESC to display?
    Thanks for your help.

    Items rendered using htmldb_item generate HTML tags on the form, not plain text. You are right, the CSV export excludes them.
    Your best best is to create another report region on some other page with the same query except replace all the htmldb_item() calls with regular columns i.e. make it a read-only report and use the "export: CSV" template and put up a link to this page at the bottom of your editable report (instead of the builtin CSV link). This way when you click on this link, it will generate your report and immediately offer to export it to CSV
    Hope this helps.

  • Grouping to display null values for all the missing dates

    Hi SAP,
    I am trying to display '0.00' value for all the missing dates in my crystal reports as follows:
    17-Jan-14     40.00
    18-Jan-14       0.00
    19-Jan-14       0.00
    20-Jan-14     80.00
    However, my crystal report is showing as follows:
    17-Jan-14     40.00
    18-Jan-14       0.00
    19-Jan-14
    20-Jan-14     80.00
    The missing dates with no data are group together and my '0.00' value is not. Kindly advise me the solution. The formula is shown as per attached.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    Fyi, I am using a formula field in crystal report to display "0.00" for days in between as follows:
    whileprintingrecords;
    if Days_Between({Command.DocDate},next({Command.DocDate}),'dd-MMM-yy') = "" then "" else "0.00"
    There is another formula field in crystal report to display the missing dates in between as follows:
    whileprintingrecords;
    Days_Between({Command.DocDate},next({Command.DocDate}),'dd-MMM-yy')
    Below is my report custom functions:
    Function Days_Between (datefield as datetime, nextdatefield as datetime, format as string)
    ' This function is only used to display what data is missing within a specified date range...output type is text
    dim thisdate as date
    dim nextdate as date
    dim output as string 'output is the text display
    dim daysbetween as number
    dim looptimes as number
    looptimes = 0
    daysbetween = 0
    output = ""
    thisdate = datevalue(datefield) + 1
    nextdate = datevalue(nextdatefield)
    if nextdate - thisdate > 1 then daysbetween = nextdate - thisdate else daysbetween = 1
    do
    if nextdate - thisdate > 1 _
    then output = output + totext(thisdate, format) + chr(10) _
    else _
    if nextdate - thisdate > 0 _
    then output = output + totext(thisdate, format)
    looptimes = looptimes + 1
    thisdate = thisdate + 1
    loop until looptimes = daysbetween
        Days_Between = output
    End Function
    The issue arise when when there is more than one missing dates in between but the null values ("0.00") displayed is only for the first missing dates and not for all the missing dates.

  • Presets sought for fine-tuning skin tones

    Are presets available to fine tune skin tones in Camera Raw, perhaps by tweaking colors and hue/saturation/luminance settings in the HSL/Grayscale menu?
    I like almost everything about ACR except how the default settings render skin tones on my 5D's CR2 files. I bought a copy of Margulis' 'Professional Photoshop' and now can consistently "fix" what I didn't like, but I suspect as much or more could be accomplished with knowledgeable tweaking in the HSL menu.
    I found one preset, after visiting this adobe forums thread:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbed80a/1
    ... but that's all. I think they'd be a snap for an expert retoucher to create -- e.g., warm_with_pink.xmp, warm_with_yellow.xmp, presets for skin tones of different ethnicities, etc.
    Of course, I've tried to do it myself, by nudging orange, red, yellow and magenta sliders, but ... with limited success, to put it mildly. I'd much rather start out with tweak-the-skin-tones presets from an expert, and then adjust to taste. If I can find 'em.

    Thanks for the links to chromoholics and creativepro. My last experience with creating a custom camera profile wasn't that successful, but that was a long time ago, and I probably shouldn't let that discourage me from trying again. If that's the ultimate solution, you've told me what I need to know.
    For whatever it's worth, though, I've shot with two 5Ds, and can't tell the CR2s they produce apart. ACR at default settings yields the same (to me) objectionable, pale apricot skin tone from the CR2s of both cameras.
    I would fix this in ACR, if I knew how. I don't; I'm not that good with the HSL sliders; I have to do it in Photoshop. But because the 5D is a popular and fairly high end camera, I guessed, or hoped, that professional wedding or fashion photographers who live and die by nuances of skin tone might have sub-directories full of presets to nudge 5D skin tones ... and, further, that they'd generously share said preset collection with the world.

  • Skin tones in LR

    Skin tones in LR often seem to look pasty and flat. I've been reading Lee Varis's book "Skin", and in it he says Caucasian skin tones should have a roughly equal amount of yellow and magenta (with yellow between 1 and 10 points higher) and about 1/4 to 1/3 the amount of cyan.
    Most of the pictures I take of Caucasians and import into LR actually have yellow as the lowest value, with magenta and cyan being roughly equal. These skin tones look pale and somewhat pasty:
    When I adjust this same image in Photoshop using Lee Varis's method, I get the following results:
    Even though the numbers are "correct" in the second version, I think it has gone too far in the other direction.
    In any event, I'd like to know 1) if others have the same problem with the way skin tones appear in LR, 2) if you have found a good way of color correcting for skin in LR without exporting to PS. I'd like to get the color as accurate as possible in LR so I don't have to edit every image in Photoshop.
    Thanks.

    I am a pro, I shoot primarily for magazines in my area, have been doing so for over 10 years now. I shoot A LOT of people. Here are my thoughts for you:
    1) The top photo was shot in an open shade area, this creates a color balance/temperature problem. It is too blue for a daylight setting, yet not blue enough for a cloudy setting.
    2)Using a whibal or other reference card for skin tones is very hit or miss. They will give you a very accurate balance of rgb values, but rarely if ever give the most pleasing skin tones. It is a good stating point however, especially for large groups with mixed ethnicity.
    3) BY the numbers is a good way to go, I have used it often, since learning it way back in the 90's. However I hardly ever work with in the cmyk color space. There for I have adopted the numbers for use in an RGB space.
    Here are my numbers for Caucasian skin tones. This was averaged off of 7 different samples in varying lighting conditions. This is also based on LR's rgb 0-100 scale:
    Green Should be 11% lower than Red
    and Blue should be 13% lower than green
    Example R-------------G ----------- B
    84.6---------78.1----------71.2
    60.3---------52.5----------40.8 measured in shadow
    78.8--------- 70.2---------60.3
    87.2--------- 80.5--------- 74.9
    78----------- 70.2 ---------64.7
    With the exception of the shadow reading above, each came from a slightly different Caucasian skin tone....
    Also skin tones are going to change wildly based on shooting conditions. You almost can not make a preset for skin tones unless you shoot in a controlled studio environment and shoot the exact same way each time.
    Other wise best advice I can give it to use the above number samples as a guide and learn to "see" skin tones. After you "See" them than you will not need the numbers any longer, because you will know what feels right.
    I also tend to back the vibrance slider down 1 or 2 notches if skin tone is very important to the image, but I am sure that is due to me shooting a D60
    Also...Every skin color under the sun can be balanced by the numbers once you know the percentages.....experiment with white balance and hsl until you find what looks right for THAT person.

  • BUG: Info panel displays incorrect Hue values

    Recently, I've been doing a lot of work with color in Fireworks and came across the following bug, which appears to be a longstanding issue within the application. Rather than keeping it to myself, I figured I'd post it here in addition to submitting a bug report with Adobe. So here it is...
    Hue values displayed within the Info panel (in HSB mode) do not consistently match the values displayed in the Color Mixer panel—including basic colors such as pure Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta. The values are 1 degree off—most often below the Color Mixer value, but sometimes above (as with Magenta). This holds true whether using with the Eyedropper tool or the Color Picker swatches eyedropper, and whether sampling from the canvas or from swatches.
    For example, the following inconsistencies were observed when sampling the centermost horizontal strip within CS6's default Color Cubes swatches picker. Note that over 50% of these colors are affected by the issue.
    The Color Mixer seems to display the correct values, while the Info panel's values appear to be incorrect. Note that this issue affects the HSB mode only; the RGB and Hex values are consistent between both panels.
    This bug has been observed in Fireworks CS6, Fireworks CS5.1 and Fireworks 8 on Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
    Here's the bug report submitted for this issue:
    Product name: Fireworks

    ******BUG******
    Concise problem statement: The Info panel displays incorrect Hue values for many colors—including pure Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta. The Hue values are usually 1 degree below the value displayed in the Color Mixer panel (e.g., 59 instead of 60 for Yellow) but sometimes 1 degree above (e.g., 301 instead of 300 for Magenta). This is true whether using the Eyedropper tool or the Color Picker swatches eyedropper, and whether sampling from the canvas or from swatches.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    In an open Fireworks document, open the Info, Color Mixer, and Swatches panels. Within the Color Mixer and Info panels, set the color mode to HSB.
    Draw a Rectangle and set its fill to Yellow (#FFFF00) using the Color Picker.
    Observe the Hue values displayed in the Color Mixer and Info panels.
    Select the Eyedropper (I) tool, and sample the rectangle's fill color. Again, observe the Hue values displayed in both the Color Mixer and Info panels.
    Results: In both steps 3 and 4, the Hue value for pure Yellow (#ffff00) appears as 60 degrees in the Color Mixer panel but 59 degrees in the Info panel.
    Expected results: The Hue for pure Yellow (#ffff00) should appear as 60 degrees in both panels.
    Note that this issue affects the Info panel's HSB mode only; the RGB and Hex values are consistent between panels. Also note that this bug affects over 50% of the "pure" hues within CS6's Color Cubes swatches palette. For more info, see the following forum post:

    This bug has been observed in Fireworks CS6, CS5.1 and FW8 on Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).

    I haven't done anything other than add my footage to the timeline. I have 2 layers (1 targa seq and 1 png seq). As I move my mouse from the Timeline to the Comp Panel, the color values flash for a split second and go away. If I press Opt+1 (2, 3, and 4) the Info Panel displays the color for that one pixel but the values go blank as soon as I move my mouse. This happens in the Comp Panel mostly. If I open a Footage or Layer Panel, sometimes the values show, sometimes not. Never had this issue in previous versions.

  • X values for y input on graph

    hello,
    can some one help me, i am trying to find the intercept points on a plotted graph so that if i input a y value i can get the corresponding x values of the plotted line which intersect at plotted line. please see attatched VI.
    to explain again what i am aiming to do is essentially (this may be another way to do it) is postion two cursors in the graph and get the x and y vaules although i would like to specify a y value.
    also in the attached file i have set a property node which displays the x value for a y input but i cant do the same for both cursors, could i also get some help on that

    here's a snippet showing you a possible solution:
    It has one problem, if the Y-values are not increasing it won't find a correct match.

  • How  to set default value for Zfeild using statusprofile

    hi experts,
    I need to set a default value for a zfeild using status profile.Although we can default the values,using getter and setter methods,but in my requirement,the feild will be defaulted when the page is locked,also in display mode,which will require me to write code to unlock then set the value and then write a commit,as there wont be any user action performed.
    I have created a zstatus profile and have set the required status to inital,but no luck
    please suggest if this canbe achived through status profile.
    Regards
    Anu.

    Hi,
    You can check in the getter if the Page is locked and then display the value to want to display. Note that this will be just Displaying the default value for the Zfield and it will not set the default value into  the Zfield in DB, because when the document is locked ( means locked for editing - mostly when system status is completed ) , setters are not called and so you can display the value but cant set it. This is fine if the value you want to display in Z field is just for user's informations and its not required to save this default value.
    The best approach would be to set the value in the Zfield before the page is locking. For example, If you wat to set the zfield value when status is set to "Completed" , then you can configure an action that is 1) triggered during saving of the document with 2) start condition "When status is completed"  ( both 1 and 2 you can mention in action defination ), then Implement this action badi in which you can set the Zfield to default value.
    This will ensure that default value is always set whenever the page is getting locked for editing ( i assumed that page lock means status completed ).
    Thanks & Regards
    Suchita
