Add equal exposure boost across whole shoot in Lightroom

This is a Lightroom 4 question.
It seems that even with a calibrated screen and across multiple print labs and colour profiles, my prints will always come out about a third stop darker than what looked good on the screen. I attribute this to the screen emitting light vs. the page only reflecting it. My question: is there an efficient way to give an equal exposure boost across an entire shoot? I don't want to sync a specific exposure setting. I want to make virtual copies for print and then add maybe 0.3 exposure to all files, on top of their current setting.
The only way I can think do to it now is to export 16-bit tiffs which will reset the exposure to 0.00 for those files, and then sync them all at +0.3 exposure. This is really inefficient for time and hard drive space.
Am I missing something obvious? Even a preset will only set a specific overall exposure setting. I want a preset that adds exposure to the existing number.
Thanks,
James

Quick Develop in Library can adjust images using a "relative" adjustment vs an absolute adjustment of a preset.

  • Add common keyword quickly across multiple images?

Is there a way to quickly add a common keyword across multiple selected images via simple text entry into the Metadata Panel or File Info dialogue - without loosing the existing multiple keywords?
I can use the keyword panel but this takes longer to add the keyword, and requires removing misc keywords that in most cases I don't want to keep and clutter up the panel.
For example, I have 3 images selected each with a single keyword "dog", "cat" and "horse" respectively.
I want to add a common keyword "animal", eg so that the first image now has two keywords  "dog" and "animal".
The problem with the two methods above is that:
Metadata panel will remove the existing multiple keywords, replacing them with only "animal" in each image
File Info will either do the same (if all existing keywords are highlighted), or if adding the new keyword, combine everything into each image so that each one has "dog", "cat", "horse", and "animal".
Maybe I'm missing something obvious but it doesn't seem intuitive for what I would expect to be a common requirement.
    Thanks

How about to use Metadata Template to append the keyword that you want to add to multiple selected images?
First create a Metadata Template with the common keyword input. And then select the all the images you want to add the keyword and then append the prepared Metadata Template.

Rob, my reading of your site is that this plug-in copies settings from raw to jpeg, does it work the other way around as well?

One of the great things about the new 0-based defaults and linear tone curve is:
You can develop the jpegs now, in Lightroom, and then sync the settings to the raws later (e.g. using RawPlusJpeg), and provided you select a matching camera profile, they will look almost the same (white balance won't translate over, but everything else will, more or less). Beware lens corrections applied to the raws might alter the registration of precision local adjustments.
Note: I recommend shooting with ADL off in order for this to work better, and consider turning sharpening off in camera as well, and noise reduction and everything else to whatever extent is possible.

  • Teathered Shooting with Lightroom 4

I've been tethered shooting with Canon for about 3+ years (EOS Utility & DPP, Breeze DSLRremotePro & BBpro), but never had sustained success with Lightroom  2 or 3 for tethered shooting.  Lightroom 4, so far, looks pretty good with respect to tethered shooting.  But I do have a few open issues with Lightroom and tethering and would like ask others if they have solutions.
    1.  I haven't found a keyboard shortcut to open the "Tethered Capture Settings" window.  Is there such a shortcut?  The only way I can see to get to that window is use Ctrl T to open the Tethered Capture Window and then use the mouse to click on the icon in the far right low corner of the Tethered Capture Window which then opens the "Tethered Capture Settings" window.
    2.  There doesn't appear to be a way to select the number of digits for the sequence counter for tethered shooting.  It's fixed at 3, which isn't always enough for some things I shoot.  I'd like it to default to 4, with an option to set it to 3 or 2.  Is there a way to do that?

If it's not supported in LR3.2RC, I think there is not be a big chance that it will be supported in LR 3.2 when it finally comes out. Maybe in some later 3.x release.

I have exactly the same question.  When I use the link provided, the price for LR6 is $149.  I've spent over an hour trying different links and researching on forums. This may be because I currently have a "Creative Cloud" subscription (which I plan to cancel).  Please advise as to how to access upgrade pricing.
<rant>This is insane.  I'm a long time customer and have licensed multiple Adobe products.  All I want to do is upgrade a product I've used for years.  Why Adobe seems to go out of its way to make it difficult to buy its products is totally baffling.</rant>
    Thanks for your help
If you click buy, it takes you to a sub munu, where you can select either "Full or Upgrade".  Select Upgrade, then select the version you already have.  The upgrade price will then be displayed.

  • PCR to equally distribute amount across WPBP splits

    Hi All
Is there a PCR operation I can use to equally distribute an amount across WPBP splits?
    For example:
WT currently processed as below (if a WPBP split occurs):

  • Add second Exposure Adjustment

    Hey there,
I was wondering if you could somehow add a second 'Exposure' Adjustment as you can add multiple times for example curves or so.
    Thanks.

    Hi Nikolas.
Nope  .  Exposure Brick adjustments, per Image, are global and singular.  Once you set them (I recommend setting them so that they give you not the _the exact_ final results you want, but rather the latitude to make other adjustments that give you the final result you want), you use other adjustments to further refine the "exposure".
See this page in the User Manual.  (Added:  Actually, that page isn't as helpful as I had expected.  Use "Exposure" to give you the broadest range of usable data.  Then use either Curves or Levels to re-map that data where you want it for the whole Image.  Then use Quick Brushes and/or additional brushed-on Curves or Levels adjustments to re-map local subsets of your global data.  At least, that what I do  .)

  • When I select Brush, changing the exposure changes the whole image exposure

When I select Brush, changing the exposure supposed to change only the selected part exposure.
In my LR-5 it changes the whole image exposure.  What am I doing wrong?

More than likely you have all the adjustment tool's sliders hidden, and you've thus moved the exposure slider from the Basic panel just below, which of course is a global adjustment. Check the dark arrow that I've highlighted in this screenshot, it's likely pointed left (everything hidden), so click on it and it will point down and all the adjustment brush sliders will be revealed.

  • I have a BT HomeHub 5 and internet on my Mac mini airport is slow. do I need a wireless add-on or booster?

I have BT Home Hub 5 but the wireless reception for my MacMini is slow. It is in a separate room. Is there an Apple wireless booster or should I have Airport Extreme?

First you need to determine what, if anything, is the problem. The Apple Apps store lists a number of Wifi network ananlyzer tools for little or no cost. WiFi Explorer provides a great deal of information including maximum data rate, band width, signal strength and signal to noise ratio. These four numbers provide the essential information about your WiFi network and the signal reaching your computer. You will also see if there are any other networks in your vicinity that are competing on the same network bands. Another factor is the speed of the internet reaching your location. There are any number of online services that will give you those numbers with a reasonable degree of accuracy. I generally use the speed test on WhatIsMyIP for no other reason than the URL is easy to remember. It is also important to check with your ISP to find out what network speed you are paying for.
So once you know what speed you are paying for and what speed you are receiving then you are becoming equipped to figure out what, if anything, is your speed problem. Get some data and report it back here and some user will be glad to help you maximize what you got. Hopefully without spending much, or hopefully any, money.
