Add Files To Itunes?

can i add avi files? im asking this because everytime i add a avi file it doesnt show up in the library. please help to add those files

iTunes is picky about what video types it plays, and the iPod seems to be even more picky.
Try converting with FLV2iTunes:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/flv2itunes.html
This program converts videos so it's 100% compatible with iTunes and iPods.
It could be a little better programmed, but hey it's free and usualy gets the job done.
Hope this helps.

  • Forgot to tick -  Add files to itunes media folder

Hi, im new to itunes and have recently downloaded my cd collection to itunes ( 7000 odd tracks worth)
Ive just realised that i never had the "add files to itunes media folder when adding to library" box ticked.
I would like to know if im am still able to add all my music to the itunes media folder now that they are already downloaded and in my library?
I would like to know this because i would like to use some songs in windows movie maker and when i search for the music using wmm,  i can find the itunes media folder but there is no music inside.
Can anyone help on this matter ,
    Thanks scott

In iTunes parlance a file is consolidated if it is located inside the iTunes Media folder, and by extension unconsolidated if outside the media folder. The option you refer to, if enabled, ensures that all tracks added to the library thereafter are consolidated, though it won't affect tracks that are already part of the library when you make the change.
Having the files consolidated means that iTunes can, if you wish, also update the file and folder names to reflect changes that you make to tags. A fully consolidated library where the media folder is a subfolder of the main iTunes library folder is also portable making it much easier to backup, restore, move or migrate.
You can consolidate your entire library with File > Library > Organise Library > Consoldiate files, or selected files by right-clicking on them and clicking Consolidate files.

  • Cannot add files to iTunes - iTunes won't add files

I have just purchased a new Macbook Pro. I then used an external hard drive to transfer music files from my desktop PC to the Macbook Pro. I copied the files directly to the iTunes Music folder on the Macbook, and then through the "Add to Library" option in iTunes added the entire "iTunes Music" folder to iTunes. I then noticed that certain files did not show up in the iTunes Music list. I verified that the files had been copied to the iTunes Music folder on the Macbook Pro, which they had, but they will not add to the Music list in iTunes. The problematic files will however open with the Quicktime player. I have also tried the following:
    - dragged and dropped files to iTunes (result was simply nothing. The files did not show up in iTunes).
    - Uninstalled and Reinstalled iTunes (didn't help)
    - Cleared the "Music" list in iTunes and then re-added all of the files again. (same files still would not show up in the iTunes Music list)
    - Tried moving the files from my desktop PC to the Macbook Pro with a different external hard drive. (still no luck).
I have found other posts with the same problem but have not found a solution. Please help!

  • Automatically add files to iTunes not processing mp4 files on Windows 8.1

I have iTunes 12.1.1.4 install on a Windows 8 (x64) system.  I have been using iTunes for quite some time and my library is located at c:\Music.  On earlier versions (version 10 of iTunes for example) I would drop an MP4 file into c:\Music\Automatically Add to iTunes" directory and iTunes would process this file and add to either the movies or TV Shows section.
I have not used this feature in some time but now have started to.  Currently, if I place the mp4 in that directory, iTunes does not do anything with the video.  I have gotten to using "Add Folder to Library" and iTunes will then process the directory.  I do have "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" checked.
How can I get iTunes to recognize that a file has been placed in this directory and process it?

    Two possibilities:
iTunes has processed the file but has categorized it as "Home Movies" rather than other video kinds - in this case you'll be able to find it under that heading in iTunes.  Note that there's a bug in iTunes 12 where even if you then change the media kind - for example, to "TV Show" or "Movie" - it will be shown in the new category in the iTunes UI but the files will still be in the "Home Movies" folder under iTunes Media
If iTunes has not been able to process the file, you should find within a Not Added folder under Automatically Add to iTunes - the most likely cause of this is that the MP4 files are using a codec that is not compatible with iTunes.

  • Cant add files via itunes

I am trying to add a file via iTunes.  I go to APPS and scroll towards the bottom.  Under File Sharing, I have Apps.  The Ringtones app has ringtones under the Ringtones Documents.  When I clikc on Add or Save to, a message comes up that iTunes has stopped working.  Then iTunes closes.  What can I do to fix this??  It also happens with the Kindle app.

Not acc. You want .aac. I use EZCDripper _http://www.8to32.com/_ full version. Its been a long time but I think I got a free 30 day trial version years ago at Tucows.com. This is a site I've used for years for trial and shareware software, never got a virus. Don't know what I would do without it. Let's you try before you by.
Got off topic. This software free version is restricted in that you can only do 5 songs each time, but you can do it as many times as you need. That is of course if the 30 day free trial is still available.
    Good luck.

  • Cant add files to itunes library

I downloaded some songs from a website and they showed/loaded up on windows media player. I tried to add them to itunes and nothing happened. I burned them to a cd and then tried to import the cd, but it never showed up. I looked at the files and it says they're itunes music player files (.wax). How do I get them into itunes? They won't add or show up.

  • How do i add files to itunes without it copying all of them over again

i just recently purchased a brand new G5... i have been a PC user my whole life and have just recently made the change. I am glad that I have but i am running into some basic problems. I put all of my old mp3s on DVD and just recopyed them into this HD... i am used to using winamp.. where i have files just how i like them and i add them to a playlist and play them.. how do i add these files to itunes without having the program copy all of the files again to the ...itunesmusic directory. PLEASE HELP ME

In iTunes go to Preferences > Advanced, there you can tell iTunes to NOT copy the music files to the iTunes Music folder while importing.
(I'd advise you, though, to consider changing your old habits and letting iTunes manage the music files on your hard drive, that's the way iTunes was designed to work. After all, iTunes is not Winamp ...)

  • Unable to add files to itunes

i had my mac air retored to factory settings and now my itunes is wiped out. and i am trying to add files to it the way i used to by drag and drop.  When i drag the file into itunes, the plus sign appears like it normally does. But once I drop, nothing happens, the file is not transferred.  What do I do? ever since trying to udate to IOS 7. it has just been mishap after mishap, i lost much of the sofwares, files, and apps that i was using and i cant even add new files. Please help.

Your profile says you are running OS X 10.6.8, which is now quite old.  Is this correct?  Are you also running a very old version of iTunes?  Have you considered updating both?

  • Cannot add files to itunes after 10.0.1 update

After downloading and installing itunes 10.0.1 update, I cannot add files to my library. Anybody else have this issue? I have tried dragging/dropping files and file->add new files to library. I'm using a PC with windows xp

Same issue, on an OS X machine.

  • Add Files To iTunes Library is not working

I unlocked several files put them on my desktop then added them to my iTunes library by going to File>Add to Library but after it clearly shows it's being imported and finished I then search the library for it but there's nothing there of that sort. I try searching for the folder name I imported and the names of the tracks but nothing. Any ideas? I'm using the latest Mac OS and ITunes.

The headers on the problem tracks may be corrupted or nonstandard. This can happen with some MP3 conversion or import utilities, and iTunes is very picky about header. Try running your MP3s through this utility:
    Mp3 Validator Mac version
It sometimes can fix the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't Add Files to iTunes - Different Situation

My wife and I both run iTunes on separate computers, but we use the same external harddrive to store the library. I added a bunch of CDs to our library from my computer, but when I try to add the content to the library on my wife's it doesn't get added. I use the 'Add folder to Library' option, but iTunes doesn't add the files.
The music is there on my library and on my iPod, but can't be added to the other library.

On the iTunes Task Bar, Click on Advanced (It may be something different in Windows, I can't remember.) and Click on Authorise computer.

  • Cant add Files to iTune

    anyone ?

I have similar problem. I just upgraded to iTunes 7 and now there are 15 songs that can't be moved to my iPod Shuffle Library because of error message that the computer is not authorized. But I am using the same computer I bought the songs with and there have been no changes to my hard drive.

  • Cannot add files to iTunes library on Windows 8

I've recently purchased a new Acer laptop with Windows 8.1 installed and have the most recent version of iTunes installed, but upon loading it, I am unable to add any files. This isn't just with mp3s, but with tones, apps and books.
At first, I thought it may have been because all my files are stored on a NAS drive, but iTunes doesn't even recognise the drive despite it being mapped. Even trying to drag-and-drop the files from my desktop doesn't add them to my library.
I've trawled the internet for a fix for this, but there are none, though I see a lot of Windows 8 users are experiencing the same problems. I have uninstalled and re-installed ALL Apple software and devices multiple times now, to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
Note the current version of iTunes has trouble syncing iOS devices if the applications are on a NAS UNC path. Accessing the library/media folder via a mapped drive letter works.

  • Add Files To iTunes Library

Is there a way of telling itunes only to add music files to its own library? I have about 120gb of music on my home server and about 1TB of movie/TV media and its trying to copy it all....i don't have the space for this on my local machine.

assuming you have +copy to ... when adding to library+ checked in preferences > advanced, option-drag the movies/tv shows from the home server into an open iTunes window.
iTunes will index the path to the location of the original files but not copy them physically.
