ADD GMail DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 for Mail offline and outgoing problems?

i have had outgoing mail issues and "offline" listed for SMTP servers problems since time immemorial and i am wondering if anyone knows for a fact if adding the above settings for GMail in System Preferences > Network > DNS tab is a good solution to this.
i am going to pay my technical help guy to come over and fix this for the fifth time in three years but i would like to see if i can get some hard facts on what may be causing it so i can fix it on my own first.

That's a Google DNS server. It can't hurt to try.
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
Click + and type:  8.8.8.8
Click+ again and type:
8.8.8.4
Click OK.
Quit and relaunch Mail.

    Hi there!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you may need to contact your carrier for formal support.

  • Dont uptade messages in Gmail app also in Viber. And have problems with Weather and App store. Can you help me?

    iOS is latest

I have been having this exact same problem on/off. Not ALL PC users though, just some. I DO select the Always Send Windows-friendly Attachement, but apparently it does not always work. I have to tell my PC friends that if they don't see the file attached, to right click on the embedded image and copy.
It would be great if this was cleared up.

Suddenly, people are having problems saving JPEGS
that I have attcahed to my email. On the PC end, it
looks as if the image is being imbedded in the email
rather than being sent as an attachment.
I am using the Mail app for the mac. When attaching
files, I simply drag and drop the JPEG file onto the
Mail app icon in my Doc. It opens an new email with
the file "attached", I compose my message annd send
    it.
I have never had problems with this before - it just
seems to have started all the sudden.
Does anybody know why this might be happening and/or
a good way to get around it?

  • DNS configuration behind a router for Mail Services

I am in the beginning stages of trying to set-up a test ground for a local mail server. I am playing with OS X servers DNS functions. I am new to DNS and am having slight trouble.
What I want to do is have OS X DNS point to another server that is on my nat for mail exchange (it is a suse linux box running kerio).
    My current set-up is:
internet --> Router for internal NAT --> OS X server is behind this nat on an IP of 10.100.251.10, the suse box is on 10.100.251.11
I have set-up a primary zone: ns1.domain_x.com with a server IP being that of my internet static IP (supplied by my ISP).
I have opened the necessary ports on my router (53) to point to the os x server box for DNS serving.
My problem is.. I need to setup a mail exchange (mail.domain_x.com) record that points to the 10.100.251.11 box.
When I do this and the global DNS servers update, a host lookup will point mail.domain_x.com to 10.100.251.11
    Which obviously is not right.
am i missing a concept here?
the dns server and the mail exchange I want to run are being running on the same Internet IP address, just behind a nat that the os x server is not controlling.
any suggestion would be appreciated.. TIA

The MX data/pointers is only needed for server to server mail exchange so that is no problem.
(If the DNS and the mailserver are supposed to use the same public IP but run on different NATed IPs/machines you forward the traffic to the different NATed IPs based on portnumbers in your Internet router/firewall.)
The problem I think is the mailserver finding itself on the right IP for the public IP domainname.
I guess the easiest way to do it would be to have two DNS machines: one for public and one for private IPs.
The private IP DNS would serve the mailserver and the internal NATed network, if you are using the same domainname internally.
Or (as the one with the public IP data is NATed), maybe BIND views can be used to serve different zonefiles for the same domainname depending on wether the DNS lookups comes from Internet and/or the NAT router gw LAN IP or if they come from any other NATed LAN IP.
Or maybe having only a hostfile with the private address for the same domainname would suffice on the mailserver and also using the ISP's DNSes for finding other public IP mailservers on it.
That wouldn't fix finding the mailserver (using the same domainname) from other machines on the NATed LAN though.

    Hi,
Just wanted to say I found out the answer. I should have looked first to see if anyone else was having the same problem but I didn't.

  • Can't add gmail to internet accounts

I'm running 10.10.3 and up until a few days ago everything was fine.
Suddenly my gmail accounts wouldn't load properly and after trying to fix the problem by deleting the accounts in the internet accounts tab, I can't add any google accounts anymore.
When I click on add account and thengoogle, adropdownwindow pops up, and then just loads. Nothing else happens.
I tried this on different networks, checked if I'm running a VPN or DNS service, nothing. The accounts work well and are synced with AirMail 2 and on my iPhone with the native mail app. It's only on my Mac that nothing comes up when trying to add a google account
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account and see if you can add them there.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • DNS pointing to both internal and external addresses

I am currently going through the very helpful lynda.com OS X Server 10.5 videos to set up an Advanced Server from the ground up.
DNS was set up first and for the most part everything has gone for me just like Sean shows in the movies.
Our company's domain name is automaticduck.com so I have been setting up DNS records for our internal network to some of the machines, for example the Xserve I'm configuring is called duckxserve.automaticduck.com and it points to the proper internal IP address. I set up my MacBook Pro OS X Client system to use the new DNS server on duckxserve and while it works for getting around the internal network now I'm having problems connecting to outside addresses on our domain such as www.automaticduck.com and support.automaticduck.com. If I remove the internal Xserve from my client's DNS servers list I am able to get out again.
I thought I would be smart and add A NAME records to my internal DNS server with the external IP addresses, however this didn't change anything, I still couldn't get out to them.
We are NOT hosting our own web site and email etc., we have DNS set up through our web host with A NAME, C NAME and MX records for various servers that are exposed to the outside world.
My intention based on my understanding was that with the setup of this internal Xserve running DNS it would simply serve DNS records to the internal network. How can my set up my internal DNS to it does not conflict with my ability to get out to our outside public addresses?

Add your ISP DNS Addresses to the forwarders section and that should be it.
Thank you for the reply, Tony.
If I set up the forwarders section* can I just not include information about our automaticduck.com servers that are not on our internal network? It seems to me (not that I know anything about this) that if our internal DNS server does not know about www.automaticduck.com or support.automaticduck.com then requests for those addresses should get passed on to our ISP's name servers*, right?
    *68.238.128.12, 68.238.64.12
This doesn't work like I thought it would.
I have my client set up to use my new internal DNS server's IP address for a DNS server and I am able to get to the local machines defined therein (like http://wesworkg5/ ), however I cannot get to my outside sites... www.automaticduck.com or support.automaticduck.com (I can't even get to discussions.apple.com for some reason).
I can get to other outside sites that I've never been to before (so I know they have to get looked up), like whitehouse.gov or harvard.edu or almondjoy.com
The DNS log doesn't show me anything, maybe it isn't supposed to in a case like this.
Whatcha think? Thank you so much.

My apple id is with gmail, I want to change it and create an @me email address. How can I do this?, My apple id is with gmail, I want to change it and create an @me email address. How can I do this?

You can't merge accounts, if you start using the gmail account for iCloud by logging out of the me ID in system preferences and back in using the gmail ID, you'll need to copy all your data in calendars etc to the gmail account. you also won't be able to use the me address for mail unless you add the me account as a secondary account at system preferences > mail, contacts and calendars.

OK, so what you want is the ability to specify the default mail app to use when sharing.  As you've discovered, iOS does not let you change the default mail app to use.
But if she's a GMail user, perhaps you should set up her iOS GMail account anyway since the GMail app really only provides mail support.  If she uses a GMail Calendar, or Notes to link to her GMail account, the GMail app won't do that.  Also, although she can use GMail contacts from within the GMail app when sending an e-mail, she won't have access to her GMail contacts for any other purposes.  In other words:
1- Set up an iOS GMail account.  That provides support for Mail, Calendars, and Notes.  You can still use the GMail app for mail, but any sharing via GMail would be done through the iOS Mail app.
2- Since the standard iOS account for GMail does not provide Contacts, set up a 2nd account just for her GMail contacts according to this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4872?viewlocale=en_US
Sounds complicated, but it's really not and is a one-time set up.

  • Add Gmail account with custom domain to mail

    Hi there,
I've added my standard Gmail account to the Mail app on my macbook air 2013 but i also have a school email from Google that I would like to add as well. This email uses a custom domain name so instead of [email protected] it would be [email protected] I've tried to add it in as a google account and as 'other' but i can't seem to make it work. Would be much appreciated if someone could walk me through the steps.
If you have any questions let me know!

I finally figured out my workaround (I'm using Mavericks).
Go into Mail and Add Account.  Then do what wubie317 says, select "Add other account" DO NOT select Google / Gmail.
You will then be asked to enter the mail server addresses for Gmail.  The info is below.  Good luck!
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    imap.gmail.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL:Yes
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - Requires SSL:

  • Cannot add Gmail to Apple Mail in Mavericks

I cannot add Gmail to Apple Mail in Mavericks.  I have tried adding it as a Google account AND as an "other" account.  I have tried manually filling in the settings, using the instructions from Gmail's website:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    imap.gmail.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL:Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires TLS
    smtp.gmail.com
    Port: 465 or 587
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Requires authentication: Yes
Use same settings as incoming mail server
I have tried with both part 465 and prt 587 for the outgoing mail server.  Still, it tells me, "There was a problem setting up the account."

Go to Mail->Preferences->Accounts and create an account
