Hi,
You probably need to format the new HDD - try the following.
If you're running Windows XP, see the guide on the following link.
http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/prepare_second_hdd/prepare_second_hdd1.shtml
For Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, continue as follows.
Hold down the Windows Key and press R.  Into the Run Box type compmgmt.msc and hit enter.  Click Disk Management in the left pane and let the drives load up.  Right click on your new HDD and select Format to start the Wizard.  Windows will assign a Volume Label so if you’re happy with this, just leave the default one.  File system is normally NTFS.  Allocation Unit Size should be left as the default value.  Select the option to perform a Quick Format if it is not already selected.  Leave any other settings as default and click Ok and Ok again to start the process.
When this has completed, your new HDD should now appear when you look under Computer.

  • Can I add hard drive memory to my MacBook Pro (13" with retina display)?

I know I can use an external hard drive, but is there some way to add hard drive memory (either myself or taking it to an Apple store)?

OWC does offer internal storage upgrades which, depending upon the vintage of your MBP, may or may not be applicable:

  • HT1473 External Hard Drive (windows media files)

Just bought a MAC and I want to "import" my Window Media Files from an external hard drive (western digital) into my iTunes.  I own and copied all of my
CDs onto this external drive and it works just fine with my Windows PC.  When I connect the external drive to the iMac everything appears as it should.  When I try to "import library" from itunes it doesn't do anything.  No attempt to convert to the Apple format at all.  I can play the music using "Flip4Mac" but this doesn't help in trying to add it to my iTunes.  Any help would be grateful.
    Bill in Wyoming.

iTunes for Mac doesn't play Windows Media Audio Files. Neither does iTunes for Windows, but it does include a feature that will convert WMA according to your current import settings. Convert your files on your old Windows box before moving them to the Mac.

  • Time capsule, external hard drive, iTunes media library

    Hi,
i want to setup my time capsule, at the same time I want to export my iTunes library to an external harddrive. following questions:
    - I setup my time capsule currently only as wifi, not yet as a backup medium
    - how do I set this whole thing up and in what sequence?
    - I want to use movies purchased on iTunes from the library and not from the store, possible? Not via Apple TV I assume but via iTunes?
    - I want to access movies located on the external hard drive from anywhere in my home network, possible?
I need to do this as I moved from usa to Europe and have To change my apple store. Before I change the store I need to download all movies to an external harddrive otherwise I cannot use them anymore due to license issues. Apple cannot help me here unfortunately.
the change is also necessary as staying in the US store causes more and more complications.
    ideas are welcome!
    thanks!

You can relocate your iTunes to an external hard disk .. plugged into the computer that is fine.. using it on a hard drive plugged into the TC is not so OK.. it can work but it will be slow.
    - I want to use movies purchased on iTunes from the library and not from the store, possible? Not via Apple TV I assume but via iTunes?
Yes, you can use the iTunes library to store and play the movie. it has to run from iTunes on the computer. I am not sure I understand the last bit about apple TV.. it is simply a streamer.. (unless you have Gen1 which can store movies on the hard disk). The Apple TV connects to your iTunes running on a computer. The TC has nothing to do with this, other than being part of the network.
Note the TC has no media extensions nor is it media aware.. it is a dumb wireless router.. that is all.
    - I want to access movies located on the external hard drive from anywhere in my home network, possible?
Access movies is fine.. read Apple prescribed method.
iTunes: How to share music and video
There is a lot of links to home sharing.
Again the TC is irrelevant to this, other than it ties the network.. but a switch or any other router could be doing that.. so the TC is of no particular use here.
For backups just setup TM in the computer to backup to the TC.. that is standard part of the setup.. and there is nothing particular in the TC required for that.. other than it plugs into the main router.. so exists as part of the network.

  • Mac won't access hard drive. Media is there.

All my media is located on an external hard drive. The location is G:/iTunes/iTunes music when accessed from my Dell PC. I now want to give my Mac Book (older one) access to my music and ditch the PC. When I connect the hard drive it comes up on the Mac labeled as "MyBook", which is what I named it. I open iTunes, hold down the option key till it says "Choose itunes library." So far, so good. I click Choose Library. However, when I navigate to the external drive under Devices, and locate the iTunes folder  I get an error message stating "The iTunes Libray.itl file is locked, on a locked disc, or you do not have write permission for this file."
Just for for the heck of it, I literally dragged all my music and movies to iTunes manually from the hard drive and dropped them into iTunes. They all reinstalled into iTunes and played fine but were placed onto the Mac's hard drive. Now my Mac's drive is basically entirely full. Also, none of the movies or media will let me make any changes to titles, sorting, etc. It's like the files are locked. Also, none of my PDFs, apps, or other stuff transferred.
I also tried doing the same thing from Preferences in iTunes. Went to preferences, Advanced and the "iTunes Media folder location" box says: /users/user/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media. I clicked "Change" and again navigated to My Book, iTunes.
Now in the location window it says: /Volumes/My Book/iTunes
I hit OK. It says updating iTunes library.
Then it comes up with "Would you like iTunes to move and rename the files....."
I've ve tried hitting both yes and no.
Nothing happens after this point. iTunes just stays blank with no media in it.
How do I get my Mac to access my media on the hard drive without having to load everything into the Macs internal drive the way it worked on my PC?
    Latest version of iTunes.
    2 TB hard drive.
    Mac OS X. V 10.7.5

Do you only have media on the external or is your whole iTunes library there?  A complete iTunes library is the  library files, supporting files and folders, and media files.  Media files are just media files.  Hint: Easiest is if it is the whole thing and portable.  It can be relocated when it is not together but it may involve a lot more steps with varying degrees of success.

  • Can't add hard drive to Airport Extreme

I wanted to add an external hard drive to Airport Extreme and I can't get it to show up in my net work. If I go to the configuration program for Airport Extreme, I can see that the base station has identified that hard drive (a Lacie 750 mb drive). Any suggestions?

  • LaCie hard drive "disappeared" media files - help???

I am hoping that someone can help guide me through this.  Posted already in the FCP forum, but think this one might be more appropriate.
System: I have a brand new 3TB LaCie D2 Quadra drive (format = Mac OS Extended (Journaled) that I am connecting via FW 800 to my iMac27 inch (2009) and my MacBook Pro.  The iMac is running on OSX Lion 10.7.4 and the MacBook Pro is running on OSX 10.6.7.
Problem: This morning I backed up about 120G of media files from another drive to LaCie.  I saw them transferred onto the LaCie and they were part of a folder named "2012 media files"  Then, without warning, the entire folder disappeared and I haven't been able to find it since.  The LaCie shows that only 1.37 TB is available which would suggest that the files are still on the drive.  But where?
I've read elsewhere on the forum that others have had this problem at times with LaCie (and probably other) drives and that it can be a problem with the catalog that can sometimes be repaired with some sort of disk utility or software like Diskwarrier for Mac.  I have not yet purchased DiskWarrior but am a little nervous about using it for fear of damaging files.  Can anyone advise what next steps I should take to trouble shoot and whether I need outside help at this point.  I am fairly new to resolving these kinds of problems.  Oddly, though, this is the second drive IN A WEEK to fail (the other one was a G-Tech Mini 1 TB).  So, I'm wondering if my iMac may have some virus causing the problem???
    Any help appreciated.

  • FCP 7 sequence not transfering to external hard drive with media manager

Ok so heres the problem. I started making a bunch of webisodes and after I got through editing and finishing the first two on my computer, I realized while I was working on the third one I would need to transfer my workflow to an external hard drive.
My goal was to transfer all the projects individualy with media manager to a 1.5tb external hard drive I just purchased and then delete all the projects and associated files off my computer. Then set the new scratch bin to the hard drive and continue working on the third episode from the hard drive.
However, thank god when I used media manager I said "copy" the files. I opened the project I had copied in the hard drive to see if it was all there and there was no sequence with all my editing! I'm not sure why it didn't import the sequence. All the clips are still I the project tab.
Can anybody help?      Am I doing this right?
    Thanks!

The information for the Sequence is contained in the .fcp project file that should be in the same folder as your Media Managed clips. Double click it to open the new version.

  • HP Pavilion 13-p120nr x2 PC - add hard drive

Have a new HP Pavilion 13-p120nr x2 PC - 4GB RAM ( 8GB DMM3 RAM chip already on the way), with 64GB solid state.
    Questions:
    - Can I add a HD if it didn't come with one initially? (slim model? or an SSD HD like with other split X2 models?)
    - IF true, what particulars for HP kit? (for HD or SSD HD? Estimated costs for HD, Kit or both?
     - Does the HP HDD kit include the hard drive, or is it simply some sort of bracket for the drive?
     - Is this simply a 'plug and play' addition (by simply taking the back off, installing the bracket and HD and plugging it in, and pressing power ON?) Not technically incompetent, but not a power unix/linux/.NET nerd either.
     - (Dumbest Q probably) Does an HD addition work in parallel with the already installed 64GB solid state memory? Or does it come up as a drive 'E:' or "X:" or whatever?
Regards all, thanks in advance for anyone reading and replies. Cheers! Bob W, Bristol RI, USA
Geez - Noone has any info on this X2 stuff? Or is it noone has anything on this particular model (13-p120nr x2 PC)? Anyone? Thoughts? (or at least suggestions on where to look further to find out more?)
    This question was solved.

    Hello BobW-Bristol-Rl
I understand you are attempting to upgrade your HP Pavilion 13-p120m x2 PC and are inquiring about the requirements for adding a HDD or SSD HD? I am quoting the User Guide for your Notebook here "For added capacity or functionality, connect an external drive (purchased separately), such as an optical drive or hard drive, or insert a memory card directly from your phone or camera.". This information was retrieved from page 50 of your User Manual.
So what the Manual says about your Notebook is that you cannot add a second internal hard drive but you can add externals ones. I myself have 2 external hard drives one I use as a back up storage device and the other as an alternate operating system on it.
Now if you are looking to replace your current SSD, I have found nothing that limits the size or that says you cannot upgrade the internal SSD. I am including the HP SSD Upgrade Kit Installation Guide for you to review and see if this is an option for you.
As a last note, if you are inexperienced in this kind of replacement I would not recommend you do it yourself. Local computer repair shops may charge  you for doing it, but you know it is done correctly, and it is not as expensive as replacing the entire Notebook.
I hope I have answered your questions and wish you the best of luck. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Scanning hard drive for media.

When I upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and reinstalled iTunes, it scanned my computer and found a bunch of old media files and placed them in iTunes. There were some I wanted to delete from my computer as I no longer needed them, I while I removed them from iTunes, I am not sure if I deleted them from my hard drive as well.
Is there any way to have iTunes scan my hard drive again and see if the files return? I tried uninstalling iTunes, moving the iTunes folder so it would not be immediately recognized, and reinstalling iTunes, but I was not prompted to run the scan again.

If the files were not in the iTunes Media folder then iTunes would not delete them, even if you deleted them from the iTunes Library.
You can use Windows search to look for music files, which is probably easier than trying to trick iTunes into searching for media again. It normally only does this on a first install of iTunes.

  • Imac G5 second hand shop. Need to add Hard drive Ram and OS.Any advice?

I've found the serial number and am interested in what the specs of this machine are. It is very clean inside but the hard drive (and heat sensor), and ram are missing. I've have a SATA hard drive and the latest version of OSX Leopard but I want to get the correct memory (the most possible) but I'm not sure what type memory to get. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to Discussions - here are the memory specs for the various models:
    Rev A -
    iMac G5
    2 GB PC3200 (400)
    unbuffered DDR,
    184-pin 64 MB
    DDR
    SDRAM 2
    iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor)
    2 GB PC3200 (400)
    unbuffered DDR,
    184-pin 128 MB
    DDR
    SDRAM 2
    iSight:
    1. PC2-4200
    2. unbuffered
    3. nonparity
    4. 240-pin
    5. 533 MHz
Once you determine which model you have, the above list will tell you what memory to get. Rev A and the Ambient Light models can take a maximum of 2GB, the iSight model can take 2.5GB.

  • Possible to add hard drives from a G5 to a new Mac Pro?

I am getting ready to retire a Power Mac G5 Quad and am wondering whether I can take its two serial-ata internal hard drives and install directly into two of the empty slots I have in a new Mac Pro? Any issues that I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Brymer

Hi Brymer, welcome to Apple Discussions!
You've posted in the Macbook Pro forum by mistake. Below is a link to the Mac Pro forum, where you'll be able to find better assistance than here.
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=194
If I had to guess though, I would say that you can definitely take your old drives and physically install them directly into the new Mac Pro, though you won't be able to run the copy of OS X that may be on those drives. You'll have to use the copy of OS X that is included with the Mac Pro, because the two (even if they are the same version) will likely be different. Do post in the other forum though, they will know better than anyone here.
    Good luck!
