Add'l grx card for second LCD display

I have the latest MacPro and will be running Final Cut Studio 2. I'd like to have two LCD displays, but only currently have one grx card (GeForce 8800). I've been told I need to install a second card for the second display, but am wondering what card I should get? I will be editing HD footage, primarily.
Thanks!

As Zeb notes, your card supports two monitors.
The only reason you might want a second card is if you are working with variants of HD and wish to view the output in real time on an HD monitor. In that case you'll be looking at a card from AJA or Blackmagic to do the conversion and produce a viable HD signal to feed the TV.

  • NEED HDCP-COMPLIANT ADD-ON GRAPHICS CARD FOR P6710F

I need referral to a compatible hdcp-compliant add-in graphics card for the p6710f desktop machine. This machine has a 250-watt power supply.

The first thing that you will need is a new power supply unit (PSU).  The newer mid-level dedicated video cards require at least 400W to operate properly.  I normally recommend at least 500W, but 600W is even better for possible future upgrades.  I like Corsair products.
Here is a video card that should do what you need.  The majority of video cards today are HDCP compatible.  I suggest that you call EVGA Tech Support to see if there is a VBIOS update for the card to assure that it will work with a Legacy BIOS before you buy it.  It requires at least a 400W PSU.

  • Can you add a SD card for extra memory?

    My question is super simple.
I use AT&T, if that makes a difference. I've heard mixed answers from people, so I'm looking for someone who really knows what they are talking about.

No, you cannot use an SD card for extra memory. Access the iPhone users manual and you will see there is no SD slot.

  • Is there any recall notices on MacBook Pro A1226 specifically for the LCD displays?

I have a MacBook Pro A1226 that the display has the color fades to b/w negative on 2/3rds of the screen but I can fix this by applying light pressure to the lower right of the screen. The last time I had a display problem it turned out the Video card had gone bad and I took it into the Genius Bar and found out the Video card had a recall on it and they fixed it for free.  I wanted to check this out before buying and installing a new display if I don't have to. I don't have time to take it to the Apple store and thought I would see if anyone knew here.  Any Ideas?

This is the only Repair Extenstion Program that affects the A1226:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
Seeing if you qualify for this one DOES mean a trip to an Apple Store or AASP as they have a specific hardware-based test they perfrom to see if the video chipset has failed.
There is one diagnostic check you can do at home to see if the chipset is toast. Open System Profiler in Applications > Utilities and, when it opens, select "Graphics/Displays" from the left-hand "Contents" pane. That should display this in the main pane )rom my A1226):
The fourth line, "PCIe Lane Width" should read "x16" as in the example. If it says anything else (usually "x1") your Nvidea 8600M GT has likely gone walkabout. Note that a proper reading does not necessarily mean your chipset is OK. The definitive test is still in the hands to the Apple techs.

  • Fast SD Card for second "write to" drive?

Hmmmmm...was wondering how this may work on Macbook Pro. Here's a new Kingston that has a write speed of 35mb a second. Anyone think this would be a good way to writ to a second drive? http://www.thinkdigit.com/Storage-Media/Kingston-introduces-the-fastest-SD-cards -in_5934.html

I think the MBP bus is capped at 240 Mbit/s. Which I believe is 30 MB/s.
And I've seen Toshiba 80MB/s SDHC UHS-I cards also...
I think the driving force is for capturing video...so maybe cams have faster transfer speeds and or will and perhaps Apple also. Dunno but....
Spec's on FW800 are 100MB/s. And eSata 300MB/s. SD still has a ways to go I think.

  • Video Card for Dual 30" Display

    Hi pple,
Just ordered a mac pro for work and wanted to know if three NVIDIA GeForce 7300 cards will run dual 30" apple cinema displays without any kernel panics or problems.
Is it better to have the ATI X1900 GT?

Unless the software you want to use specifically requires that an external webcam provide a Firewire input, any of the new USB webcams that support "UVC" will work with 10.4.10. Older USB cams that do not support UVC may be useable with addition of appropriate third-party driver software.

  • Multiple Video Cards for 3 Monitor Display

I'm in the process of creating a large multiscreen presentation (3 screens). I need an application (will probably be authored in Director or Flash) to span all three screens. Each screen will have a resolution of 1280 x 720. I am looking into what the best solution is for this.
    One Quad head card?
Two video cards, one dual head, one normal?
    Three video cards?
I've heard with PCs that if you have multiple video cards, you can't run a fullscreen application across video cards. Does the same hold true for Macs?
    Any suggestions?

I'm having a hard time figuring this out. It seems as though people on this forum have been playing games across all three monitors. However, I just went to the big glass Mac store in NYC and asked a few people at the "genius bar." The guy I talked to was very skeptical of running a fullscreen application across video cards. Another guy I talked to said it was application dependent. They had no MacPros with dual head cards, so I couldn't check its settings.
If anyone can out genius the genius bar and give me a solid answer, I'd be greatly indebted. I'd like to get an answer before spending 5 grand on a system.

  • Wall Mount For Studio LCD Display?

    Hello,
Anyone know a good (cheap) way of mounting the Apple 15" studio display to the wall? The issue is that the Studio Display does not have the standard VESA mount, so finding a product has been difficult. It doesn't need to be anything fancy like an arm. Just a simple way to put it on the wall.
    Thanks in advanced.

    Hello? Anyone? Yikes....

  • HT201303 How can I add another credit card for making payment?

My country of origin is India but I couldn't link my UAE credit card with AppStore.

The only way to use an iTunes/App store front is to use a method of payment native to the store's country, with a billing address in that same country.  Stores are country specific - always have been.
If you have suitable payment and billing information, then just change your store designation, and change it back when you get home - see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht6119

  • I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, 8 gb ram with a Dell 27" display and a 42" LG TV. I am thinking about upgrading the stock ATI Radeon 2600 graphics card for better resolution, preferring 2 dvi outputs. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best card?

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, 8 gb ram with a Dell 27” display and a 42” LG TV. I am thinking about upgrading the stock ATI Radeon 2600 graphics card for better resolution, preferring 2 dvi outputs or 1 dvi and 1 vga vs 1 dvi and a mini. I don't do a lot of Final Cut Pro, gaming, etc. I am interested in best value for the graphics card.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the best graphics card for these larger displays for the best value?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I recommend you install nothing older than the Apple-firware 5770, about US$250.
RE: Mac Pro Replacement Graphics cards
    1) Apple brand cards,
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards, and
    3) "Mac Edition" cards ...
... show all the screens, including Boot up screens, Safe Mode, Installer, Recovery, debug screens, and Alt/Option boot screens. At this writing, these choices include:
    1) Apple brand cards:
    • Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250** works near full speed in every model Mac Pro, Drivers in 10.6.5
    • Apple-firmware 5870, about US$450
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards
    • NVIDIA Quadro 4000, about US$1200
    • NVIDIA Quadro 5000, about US$2500
    3) "Mac Edition" cards -- REQUIRE 10.8.3 or later:
    • SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 MAC Edition, about US$480** Vendor recommends Mac Pro 4,1
    • EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, about US$600
The cards above require no more than the provided two 6-pin aux power connectors provided in the Mac Pro through 2012 model. Aux cables may not be provided for third-party cards, but are readily available.
If you are Meet ALL of these:
    • running 10.8.3 or later AND
    • don't care about "no boot screens" etc AND
    • can re-wire or otherwise "work out" the power cabling, THEN:
You can use many more cards, even most "PC-only cards"

  • Ipod LCD Display

    Hello,
does anyone know if it is possible to replace the broken lcd display of a mini second generation with the lcd display of a 1st generation mini?
I know it is not possible to exchange the clickwheels, but i'm not sure if this goes for the lcd displays also.

    Anybody?

  • Increase refresh rate of my LCD display

Hey hey hey. How can I increase the refresh rate available for my LCD display? Should I increase the refresh rate? I cannnot find where to change it.

There are different refresh rates that you can set, but I agree, 60 should be adquate. You can check this under Control Panel, Display, Settings, Then Click on Advanced, then Monitor. There you will see the refresh rate. Unclick the "Hide modes..." and you will see other rates which may not be able to be applied to your machine.

  • ATI Radeon Card with 2 DVI LCD Display

At last, I made a big step forward by purchasing the new MP. I already have a 23" Apple Display and intend to buy another DVI display (non Apple). How do I connect both LCD screen to the ATI Radeon card? Do I need to purchase any adaptor?

    Hi SamsonSimon;
    Here are the specs on the ATI Radeon card;
ATI Radeon HD 4870 includes two video ports: one Mini DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port. This allows you to connect both the 24-inch Apple LED Cinema Display or another Mini DisplayPort-based display, and a DVI-based display such as the 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display. Display adapters are available to connect VGA displays.
Since it says it has two ports, one Mini DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port, it would seem you are going to need an adapter for the second LCD screen.

  • Mac Pro 1,1 needs 2nd card for 3rd display

I have dual core (2.66 GHz) Mac Pro 1,1 with 8 GB ram,  120 Gig SSD boot drive, 1-500 internal HD and and external FW 120 Mg
Am sticking with SL 10.8.6 for another year or two, as I have too many Rosetta-dependent apps and too little money.
Am running two 23" Cinema displays with the original Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT card, both @ a 1920 x 1200 res, 32 bit color.
However, I need more 'desktop', as I do a lot of multi-window tasking (6-8-10 windows up and active at a time).
I want to add another used 23" Cinema dislay at 1920 x 1200, 32 bit color for a total of three monitors.
Next year, I may swap out one of my 23" displays for a 27" or a 30"
What is the cheapest graphics card to add for the third display?
I assume that  another Apple GeoForce 7300 GT MA567Z/A is my best bet?
Best price I have seen for a Apple GeoForce 7300 GT MA567Z/A is about $130-$140. Is that a good price?
I assume that the plain GeoForce 7300 GT, @ about $30, is not designated for, and will not work in a Mac. Correct?
    95% of what I do:
Lots of spreadsheets with simple charts.
    Thunderbird mail
    Web browsing,
Lots of research and writing in Word
Lots of text and photo 'cut and paste'.
A small amount of low end photo editing
    A small website
A few relatively small drawings with McDarft.
    I don't do:
    games
    video, movie, sound editing
any other high graphic demand stuff.
I am only using about 60 GB of disk memory
Thanks for any advice which would add to my previous homework.
    I love these forums!

Sorry, I forgot to add that small detail..
I can switch both connections and it'll work for the mac part of the deal but the windows end cant switch screens - making the apple display the primary display on windows..
now it sounds like a "windows" issue doesnt it!?heh
