Add Media to Library

I have a large  library of sound effects on my computer and I was wondering if there is a way to add them to the Final Cut Pro X library.
I mean the one that contains the standard media.

One option would be to simply move the files you want to add into iTunes into the *Automatically add to iTunes* folder. Alternatively disable the option *Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library* under *Edit > Preferences > Advanced*. You can then import the files leaving them where they currently are. A third option is to arrange the files the way you want them inside the iTunes Media folder before adding them to iTunes. Use this if you want the benefit of a portable library while maintaining your own file & folder name structure. (Turn off *Keep iTunes Media folder organised* if you want this)
If you've already used the second option above but want to consolidate the imports then I've written a script called ConsolidateByMoving which is designed to do pretty much what it says.

  • Add media to library by cutting it, not copying

    Hi everyone,
I wanna get back to my roots and use iTunes again to play music on my Windows 7 machine. My music collection is very large (~ 150GB) and because I don't have too much free space left, I don't want iTunes to add the music to its library by only copying it (because then it would take more than 300GB space on my hard drive which I don't have), but by cutting it, so it completely moves the files from one place to another.
I don't find an option for that. Can you help me?
    Regards,
    Jonathan

  • Cannot add media to music library

I am using Vista. I have properly loaded iTunes and registered. When I try and "add files to library" nothing happens. I have iTunes configured to manually manage music. I have tried dragging and dropping and that does not work either. I am stumped. This is the first iPod loaded to this computer.

Adding file to iTunes has nothing to t\do with the iPod.
When I try and "add files to library" nothing happens
You don’t get a box asking you which files you want to add?
Or when you select the files, nothing happens?

You mean you have the iPod configured to *Manually manage music*.

  • Add media files to iTunes library

Hi, I am new to iTunes and just bought an iPad. Tried to add some existing video files on my computer, including RMVB, WMV, AVI formats, using the 'Add File to Library' menu option, but nothing happened in the iTunes. No error messages, yet nothing added. Anyone has any clue? Those video clips can be played with other players without isssue.

They need to be in an iTunes supported format.

  • Help Can not add music to library

When i go to file- add file to library- and select the file(playlist) from windows media play it doesnt do anything no error message or anything. I am not good with computers so i need help. All the songs are mp3's. I dont know what to do.

When i go to file- add file to library- and select the file(playlist) from windows media play
Make sure that you are adding actual files - not a windows media player 'playlist'.
    1. Locate where you store the music files that you want (on your computer)
    2. Select the file(s) or album folder
    3. Move the file(s) to your iTunes library on your computer (usually: C: My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music)
    4. In iTunes: File > Add File to library ....Or Add Folder to library > locate the files, select them and add.
Note: It's best to chose a Media Player that you fancy the most to handle your media. If you use two media players to play the same files - then it may cause a conflict between them resulting in duplicate files, files that are not found and automatic renaming of files etc.
    Good luck

  • Can not add music to library.

I have tried adding music files (MP3)  to library and it opens fine and allows me to select it but then it does not appear in the library. I've tried dragging and dropping but nothing. I have also manually added files to the Itunes folder. They appear but not in Itunes. If I uninstall Itunes and reinstall how will this effect the Iphone, and Ipod information apps ect? Will I have to redo all the sign in junk associated? Because honestly with an Iphone and two separate Ipods all with different info and logins is a nightmare I dont want to revisit.

I loaded iTunes on a new laptop. I copied and pasted my albums to a 4G stick and down loaded them to the new laptop. Placing them in, Libraries – Music – iTunes and than in Itunes used File – add file to library. So far so good. For what ever reason one of the CDs would not load onto the stick. I got the orginal CD and loaded directly to Itunes. Now when I look in  Libraries – Music – iTunes it’s not there but it is in and plays in iTunes. What should I have done or should I be doing? Thanks.

It's not a unique situation - happens all the time, smaller hard drives getting filled up.
It's also easy to fix. I just moved my itunes content to a bigger hard drive.
First I made a backup of the itunes database file - iTunes Library.itl. Just in case anything went wrong.
Nothing did go wrong, but I'd have it in case anything DID go wrong. That file holds ratings, playcounts, Date Added, and other metadata.
Second, in itunes change the preferences > advanced tab to tell itunes to put everything on G:
Set the itunes folder location to something like G:Media or G:iTunes
This will affect all FUTURE additions to itunes and not do anything to the existing locations.
Make sure the checkbox for "Keep itunes organized" is NOT checked. I also left the "Copy files when adding" unchecked.
Third, to move all the files to G: without itunes losing the paths, run the File > Library > Organize > Consolidate command. This will need to run a while, so be patient as it copies all the files to the new G: location. This does NOT delete the originals. You will have to do that.
Fourth, make sure everything in itunes is OK and you can play stuff in your library. If you're really cautious you can run a script to check for missing/dead tracks.

From your statements above, it sounds like you never tried to burn a CD for at least the first year that you owned the laptop, as it had a one year warranty on it. While you might have used it frequently to install software,  play DVDs, Blu-Ray disks, etc, that's unclear from your statements. Nonetheless, it might just be dirty-dusty. So, before deleting-uninstalling any software, and given they're cheap, try a CD-DVD Cleaner Disk first and see if that resolves your problems.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • How to recreate list of media or Library in iTunes and link to Apple TV (1st gen)

    Here's the scenario:
I have the iTunes folder pointing to an external device (Time Capsule).  I have most, but not all of my media content on the Time Capsule, as my MacBook Pro only has a 122GB drive. (Yes, I have been warned that changing the iTunes folder has consequences, but I'm sure iTunes is still happy I'm buying content.)
I also have different content purchased on the Apple TV which is not on the Time Capsule, or on my MacBook Pro.
Upgraded iTunes to 10.4.1 & result -  list of media AKA 'Library' (TV shows & Movies) was reduced to nil.
(Thank you Apple - not what I expect, although iTunes is the most obscure piece of software I have ever used.)
I re-added all the Movie and TV content stored on the Time Capsule to the 'Library' in iTunes, called "MyLibrary".  I am unable to add the content on the Apple TV to that same library.
When on the Apple TV I can view all content stored on the Apple TV.  It currently is linked to an old library and it is greyed out on the Apple TV.  I am afraid to disconnect it in case the information in that library indicates that the content has been synced, in which case that content will be 'removed' from the Apple TV.
The 'Computer' link on the Apple TV points to a shared Library --- "MyLibrary".
If I add the shared library "My Library", I can view the content stored on the Time Capsule by accessing "Shared Movies"/"Shared TV Shows". That's good, however ...
I want to integrate the two libraries together and to copy the purchased content on the Apple TV (1st gen) to the Time Capsule.
(Just had a thought ... if I could arrange to download those purchases again, the problem would be solved.)
The reason I want to do that is I can not 'see' the content on the Apple TV through iTunes, nor do I have a duplicate copy of all that content on the Apple TV should the Apple TV storage fail. Also, I cannot connect to the Apple TV through iTunes except through the Shared Library "My Library", which now only contains content on the Time Capsule.
I know this is complex, but for those of you who understand the innerds, do you have any suggestions?
    Thx
    Moira

I'd strongly suggested posting this in the ATV forum if you haven't already.

  • ITunes 11 Won't Let Me Add Songs To Library

I made this a new question because the previous posts were pretty old. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4562384?start=0&tstart=0 Thats the previous with the most replies that I could find. The options they suggested were :
    1) file>add folder to library> navigated my way to the name of the folder> highlighted the one i wanted and pushed "select folder" and it brings in any song not already in the library.
    2) Have you enabled the menu bar? with the menu bar enabled you can add file or add a folder, also at the bottom left you se the + sign, click that and you have the same options.
    3) make sure ur genius is on.
    That did my job..
    4) I just selected "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library", it works! It was unselected before, and iTunes 11 keeps the old settings. If you are in the same case, don't miss this setting!
    5) solved the problem by right-clicking the songs and clicking "convert to AAC". they immediately appeared in my library. hope this helps.
    6) In store preferences, I deselected "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases" and everything was back to normal!
    7) I had this problem as well, what helped me was to rename the MP3 file you're trying to add and just try re-adding again. Hopefully it works.
    8) Mine seems to work once and awhile randomly. If you look hard enough you can see the import crash. White box flashes up and goes away.
Sometimes clearing itunes cash/restarting makes it happy?
9)Problem Solved - If using Windows 7 and for instance you want to add folder to itunes you must first transfer the music you want to upload to itunes in the Music Folder - Noted as "Public Music Folder" - This applies to either music on your system itself or from an External Hard Drive - There is no other option thanks to the annoying Windows 7 Operating System - I transferred a huge file and then added it the usual way onto itunes and it worked.
    10) Open iTunes.   Open Windows Explorer and locate the folder where your music resides.   Drag the folder of music into the iTunes window area where the albums are listed.   I just dragged it around in the iTunes window until the red circle with a slash turned into "+Copy".   Let go of the mouse.   The music is playing as I type!   Closed iTunes, reopened, it is still there!
So, now that thats out of the way, I went ot other sites and dont think any other options were given but if they were i tried them. Ive tried all of these things in different combinations too. Unlike some other people though, the songs never showed up in recently added and they wouldnt play when I clicked play using itunes. I've transfered music before for my parents from windows media player to Itunes when they got ipods and from one computers itunes to another. Can't figure out why I can't get this to work from this windows media player to new itunes. Its Not all the music though, only select songs, which seem to be the same as the songs in the SAME ALBUM that did work.

OK, I got the same problem, and tried all the solutions here, none of them works.
Then I tried everything by myself, and finally, I made it!
I just selected "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library", it works!
It was unselected before, and iTunes 11 keeps the old settings.
If you are in the same case, don't miss this setting!

  • HT1473 I click "add file to library" and then the song i want, but it doesn't come up

Im really POed at the new iTunes on so many levels. first, the iCloud makes all songs i bought when i was 11 and deleted when i was 13 again. me and my little sister share the same account, but we have different computers so we don't have each other's song. now, thanks to iCloud, we do. i do not want carrie underwood or justin bieber, abd she doesn't want david bowie and led zeppelin. right now, the icloud isn't working, which is fine right now, but it's not right.
ok, about "adding music and other content to iTunes." you used to be able to drag a file from your documents to your library and it would be copied onto it. i am under the impression that that isn't the case anymore. I've tried a billion times and it hasn't worked. even when im on the led zeppelin section of my library and i drag "over the hills and far away" it won't budge; there's still only 6 albums and 10 songs. so i clicked "add file to library" and then the song i want, but it doesn't come up. and i did this a zillion times with a bunch of different songs, and nothing.
another problem is that the files are screwy. "houses of the holy" is on the album physical graffiti, not houses of the holy. if i edit the song's info to physical graffiti, all the other songs that are supposed to be on houses of the holy go into physical grafitti. when i go to song info, they still say houses of the holy. i just tried changing it again, and now all my led zeppeling albums are labeled houses of the holy. WHAT IS THIS MADNESS!?!?!?!?!
    #NewiTunesSucks

    Go to edit-preferences-advanced-
uncheck 'keep itunes media folder organised'
Then  make changes and see if itunes keeps the new info...
But warning! if you allow iTunes to organise your files in the future  these change will be undone I believe.

  • Itunes will not add folder to library - no error messages

I have an archive of about 4 thousand albums and have decided to use Itunes to manage them. Windows Media Player is terrible for large archives - it's database is poorly designed. Anyway, when I tell Itunes to add a folder (containing 1000 artists each in its folder)to its library it stops at around seventy every time. Also within the 70 artists folders it ingested I have several albums that didn't ingest.
    what's going on?
on a related subject, Itunes does not seem to be smart enough to know that it already has a song in its library that you are trying to ingest.
    thanks for any help!

iTUnes for windows has a limit, not sure exactly what number that limit is yet but if you goto file>add folder to library it only catches so many til it reaches a limit then it stops.
Also iTUnes is designed to add whats called "Duplicates" because it takes for granted your the smarter one. If you had to songs that are somewhat the same, one is the original, one is a remix, the tags might not note this. You may have .... Britney SPears - hit me one more time then another one thats a remix BUT the tags say the same thing "Britney SPears - hit me one more time" So instead of stoping the second song from coming in, it lets it in so later you can edit the tags to denote its a remix.
Now since you have such a large swath of music all in there own lil folders, Id think the easy thing to do is let iTUnes auto search your system and add them all. Theres no feature like this built into iTUnes UI but theres a feature like this when you delete a hidden pref file. When this file is deleted and you open itunes again, you get a set up wizard, it in this wizard you get the option to have iTUnes search the whole system for music and media files.
Go here to B noirs post about deleting this pref file http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=531850&tstart=0

  • "File / Add File To Library" Not Working For Particular File

I believe I chose to delete a podcast. iTunes asked if I wanted to totally delete the file, or to leave it in a 'media file'. I didn't know what this meant so I chose to just leave it in a 'media file'. As expected, the podcast could no longer be seen in the iTunes Library / podcasts.
Later I performed: "File / Add File To Library" of that same podcast (ie. an .mp3 file). The file does not seem to be anywhere in the Library. I'm wondering if it is not added because it thinks it is in some "media file" which cannot be seen within iTunes? No error message was given saying the file was already there; however, when i attempt to add other podcasts from the same directory on my computer, iTunes has no problem adding other podcasts.
I've changed the directory to a different location on my harddrive, as well as changed the name of the podcast all to no avail. And spent 4 hours with this and am ready to pull my hair out.
I think iTunes will not add this file because it thinks it is already there, although from no where in iTunes can i find it (ie. not under 'music', not under 'podcast', etc.).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

"Won't add to library and doesn't give an error message" is usually a sign of minor corruption in the MP3 file. Treat it with a 3rd party tag cleanup program such as MP3val, and then it should be able to be added to your iTunes library.

  • Cant add folder to library

I just reset my computer and re installed itunes 11 and I cant add folder to library but can add files but have 5k songs and that will be a PAIN, and I looked on google and apple for 3hrs now and still cant find a solution. I been having a ipod and itunes for about 6 years now and never had a problem like this.

The main differences between iTunes 11 and earlier versions are the loss of coverflow and ability to have multiple windows open. Other familiar features have been hidden but can be revealed...
You can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
Use Edit > Preferences > Show list views for all media to do just that
From iTunes 11.0.3 you can enable artwork in the Songs view from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view
View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) also contains options to change the sorting of grid based views
