Add memory s10e will not boot

I just added a PNY 1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 667MHz/533MHz/400MHz to my s10e.  When i do the computer will not boot.  What is the issue with this memory?

Your memory card may not be seated properly or you have a bad memory stick.

  • Satellite A665-S6050 Windows 7 Home Premium Memory Upgrade will not boot

Hope there might be a clue to assist.
Checked Toshiba support for recommended memory to upgrade from 2X2GB to 2X4GB.  Ordered Kingston KTT-S3BS/4G x 2 as recommended.  BIOS recognizes the memory, but Windows will not boot.  Tried Safe Mode and hangs after a few seconds.  Tried Repair Computer, also hangs after a few seconds.  Put original memory back in and it boots fine.  There was a brief flash of a blue screen once, but no dump file to be found.
To me it seems as ifthe issue is Windows, but I do not know enough about this to say definitively.  Just based on the percieved behavior when Windows trys to boot (hanging).
Any ideas appreciated before I go through return and try something else.
    Thanks.

Yes he did. But he ordered the Kingston memory that Toshiba recommended as he said...

I'm suggesting that he try the Toshiba part number (PA3677U-1M4G) suggested in the spec, which is made by Axiom.

  • When i install a 2nd 1gb stick of memory in my pavilion dv6000t laptop, the laptop will not boot.

HP Pavilion dv6000t running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit version.  My system currently is running on a single 1GB stick of memory.  I have a 2nd matching 1GB stick of memory.  When I install the 2nd stick of memory the system will not boot.  All the lights come on, the hard drive spins up, but you can not even get into the BIOS setup screen, it just sits there with a blank screen.  What could be causing this.  Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

    Hi:
When I encounter issues like that, I switch the memory modules to see if one of the chips is bad.
So, I recommend you remove the one memory chip that is working, and put the other one in its place.
If the PC boots up, now install the second chip and see what happens.
If it doesn't boot up, then there is some undefined hardware issue.
If the PC doesn't boot up when you initially switch the memory with the one stick, then you know that the one memory module is bad.

  • Ibook G4 will not boot up

Help- My ibook G4 will not boot up. When I Turn the computer on the apple symbol shows up and the clock continues to spin. I tried to start it up from the disk and at first I could select my hard drive, but then the start up failed. When I tried to start it up again I was no longer able to select my hard drive.
From there I ran the hardware test function and when it tested the memory I got an error message MEM/104/.../BUILTIN. I can't remember the exact message but that is the part that I do remember.
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my computer?

    Hi rdconners
That sounds like your onboard RAM is defective. Unfortunately that RAM is not replaceable only the logic board it sits on.
If you add some RAM to the single expansion slot you will be able to get it going again.

  • PowerMac Will NOT Boot up

Last night my PowerMac G5 seemed like it was hung up. I had to shut it off to get it to do anything. It hasn't booted since. I went through all the diagnostic BS, verified the disk, checked the permissions, booted in verbose mode and it end up hanging when it gets to something that said something about CiscoVPN. I have Cisco VPN software loaded on the box. I have used it for months so I'm not sure why all of a sudden it is a problem. So, i brought the PC to the Apple store. Genius could not get it to boot or start in Safe mode either. TOld me to try the Archive and Install. I brought it home and did that. Now it boots but I get no icons or toolbar. I get part of the spotlight toolbar in the upper right. It is about 1/2" long. Nothing happens. Does the same thing if I start in safe mode.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I am getting a little upset with my Mac. Not sure why this machine will not boot. Don't want to lug it to the Apple store again.

Well, I can't say for sure what's wrong. What I would do if it were mine...
Swap out memory chips if you can. If you have four, take out two and see what happens. If it works, one (or maybe even both, but probably not both) of the chips you took out is bad. If it doesn't work, swap out the others. If you only have two, try them in different slots.
If you have an external firewire HD that can boot your Mac, install an OS on that and see what happens. If it works, you're probably looking and a bad HD.
Since there are a lot of other components that could also have failed, there's no telling what exactly it is, but memory and HD's are the most common causes of pain.
You mentioned doing the standard troubleshooting BS - if you haven't pressed the PMU reset button or booted into open firmware mode and doing a reset, make sure you add those to the standard troubleshooting BS bag-O-tricks.
If none of the above work, I'd try backing up my important data, erasing the HD and doing a fresh install.
    Good luck,
    Jeff

  • Sonnet Encore Zif G4 Installed but will not boot.

I am back and feel like the frustrated enator. I called tech support at sonnet and got the upgrade installed but B&W will not boot.
I checked Sonnet tech page and I have no PCI cards installed and the hard drive that was attached out. However I can not get the power plug that was attached to it off could this be the problem. If so how does one pull it off?
I also read some place may have been a post at site the some 256 ram may not be compatable with up-grade. I have 4 sticks of pc 133 non ecc in the B&W. Problem?
I replaced them with 4 sticks of 64 ram pc 100 but still would not boot. Old ram that is untested.<

After doing the firmware upgrade on the G3 some memory that worked before the upgrade will either not work or will not be fully seen. I had a couple of 128M sticks in my g3 that only showed up as 64M after the firmware upgrade, and one 256 pc133 that did not work at all.
I seems you are trying to do three things at once: firmware upgrade, cpu upgrade, and memory upgrade. Doing all at once without confirming the success of each install makes troubleshoting your problem difficult.
    Go back to ONE.
    - take out the G4 upgrade
    - put the original G3 cpu
    - remove all but one stick of memory
    - boot into OS9 with the one stick
-if no-boot then remove that stick, try another...
    - confirm that the G4 firmware patch has been properly installed (do it again)
(even if you can not disconnect the power supply line from the PCI card thats fine as long as the card is not in the slot)
-after booting with one stick, reboot and add ONE stick of memory , confirm memory in System Profile. Continue untill you have all your memory confirmed and working in OS9
-once you have all of your installed memory working in OS9 boot into OSX, confirm the memory in System Profiler.
-if no boot in OSX remove all but one stick, try that.
-if one stick works, take it out and set it aside, try another, test each individually.
-install all the working sticks you have
-recheck that all the memory appears in System Profiler
-Now reinstall the G4 upgrade with just one confirmed working memory stick in.
-If that works put in one stick at a time and reboot, checking for the memory in System profiler each time.
If this works you should have a happy mac. If not you will be able to report back with exactly where problem is.
I know this is a lot of rebooting but IF you have a bad memory stick it is the only way to find it, and you have to ensure that all the memory is osx compatible before trying to install a cpu upgrade.

Building new Z77A-GD65 with i3 3220 cpu 16G memory, 650w power supply and it will not boot. It starts to boot and lights all the LEDs green, FF appears in Multi BIOs it shuts off after a few seconds then tries to boot again and again repeating. MSI RMA replaced the mobo and installed Bios 10.7 and it still will not boot.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello,
    please do this:
    1) Take the board out of the case and test it on a non-conducting surface in barebone configuration.
    2) Barebone configuration means:
    - CPU (reseat CPU & heatsink, check socket for bent or broken pins)
    - video card
    - one stick of RAM (test both modules seperately in all memory slots)
    - Keyboard
    - power connections (Board: 4-Pin +12V CPU and 24-Pin ATX, Video Card: 6/8 Pin +12V PCIe)
[Remove all hard drives, optical drives, add-on Cards (X-FI), case wiring, additional USB Devices, Card Readers etc. from board and/or PSU]
    3) After Hardware changes clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.
Did all of that, even checked with my with coolermaster 600w PSU with 2 12 volt rails. No difference.

  • Pavilion g6 ID46 will not boot

    Product: Pavillion g6 ID46
    Serial # [edited by Moderator]
    Product # A6Z74UA#ABA
OP sys: Windows 7 Home Prem OA
My husband's Pavillion G6 will not boot. What happened: returned to the computer after being away for a while, shook the mouse to wake it up, and the screen "exploded into lots of colors and moving pixels." Screen went black, then a "would you like to start over in safe mode" screen popped up. He attempted a safe start, but it failed and gave him a Bios Application Error 501. He tried to restart the computer, but it hangs on the "Starting Windows" screen with the 4-color icon.
    I have:
Removed the battery and tried to restart. No good.
Took hard drive and and reseated it. Ditto.
Tried to start in Safe Mode, before and after what follows below. "Loading files" always get stuck on Windows\System32\drivers\CLASSPNP.SYS
Burned and ran a Repair disc. Took 4 hours and the program ran to the end when I was asked to restart. Computer hung on the "Starting Windows" screen. (I have let this screen run for over 5 hours without it changing.)
Ran the System Repair program twice, same results.
Ran Start Up Tests. Passed Primary Hard Disk Self Test, Hard Disk SMART Check, and System Memory Test (100% passed)
Tried restoring BIOS using Windows + B and power with several attempts. Power button LED stays on, about 20 seconds later a small LED on 'caps lock' button begins flashing white Twice. Black screen and nothing happens after 5 minutes. Looked this up and 2 blinks is supposed to be BIOS corruption.
Error Log lists these: Hard disk 1 Quick 303, Error 501, and Error 03F0.
I do not have a great deal of computer smarts, so appreciate any help you can give, especially if the help is in simple and easy to follow terms.
    Mahalo in advance!

  • Equium will not boot - how to access Recovery partition?

Hi, my sister has a 2008 Equium A200-1V0 with Vista 32-bit which will not boot (probably due to virus rootkit damage). It loads the BIOS but then goes straight to black screen with flashing cursor.
    F8 does not work.
F2 goes to Phoenix TrustedCore Setup utility. The Toshiba hard drive and CD-ROM drive are listed in Main and Boot in the correct order.
Using F12 I can get it to boot from a Win7 64-bit repair disc I burned using my laptop.
However, this does not recognise the OS nor any image or restore points (because it is 64-bit) but it will load Command Prompt.
In *Command Prompt*, I can start Notepad and when I click File/ Open and double click on Computer it shows 4 Hard drives as follows:
    Local Disk (C:)
Data (D:) 42 GB free of 54.5 GB
WinRE (E:) 1.11 GB free of 1.46 GB
Boot (X:) 29.0 MB free of 31.5 MB (which is used by the Repair disc)
So the C: drive is listed but without capacity.
    *CHKDSK*
chkdsk c: /r and press return
"The type of the file system is NTFS.
Unable to determine volume version and state. CHKDSK aborted.
Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50.
    *Running TESTDISK*
    Analysis:
Partition Start End Size in Sectors
    1 P Windows RE(store) 0 32 33 191 89 26 3072000
    2 * HPFS - NTFS 191 89 27 7477 118 1 117051392
    3 P HPFS - NTFS 7477 118 2 14592 190 62 114307072 (data)
    * = Primary bootable
When doing Quick Search and then P - list files, of the second partition it reports:
"Can't open filesystem. Filesystem seems damaged."
So what I would like to do is boot up from Windows Restore on the E drive.
My question is to any Toshiba experts: When F8 does not work how do I use the recovery partition???
    Laptop is:
    Part Number : PSAF5E-002005KS
    Key Features
    - Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T2310
    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
    - DVD Super Multi (Double Layer) drive
    - 2,048 (1,024 + 1,024) MB RAM (667 MHz)
    - 15.4 " WXGA TFT display 1,280 x 800

    *UPDATE*:
I have borrowed a genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit dvd and booted up with that.
    Clicked on "Repair your Computer"
Then it goes striaght to System recovery Options but no Operating System is shown. Click Next.
    Then:
    "Choose a Recovery Tool.
Operating system: Unknown on (Unknown) Local Disk"
    *Startup Repair*
    This takes 1 second.
    Root cause found
System volume on disk is corrupt.
    *System Restore*
"X - To Perform an offline System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation you would like to restore.
For example, if the installation located in "C:\Windows" should be restored enter the following command:
    rstrui.exe /OFFLINE:C:\Windows "
    *Windows Complete PC Restore*
" No valid backup locations could be found.
Windows cannot find a backup on the hard disks or DVDs on this computer. Attach the correct hard disks or insert the last backup DVD and then start the restore process again. "
    Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Windows cannot check for memory problems...[snip]
    *Command Prompt*
    This is working fine.
    CHKSDK C:
The type of file system is NTFS.
Unable to determine volume version and state. CHKDSK aborted.
The HDD is 120 GB and is split by Toshiba into 3 partitions.
C:\ drive (56GB) is bootable with Windows - this is corrupted.
D:\ drive (55 GB) has all Data - fully accessible
    E:\ drive is CDROM
F:\ drive (1.46 GB) is the WinRE recovery partition - this is fully accessible.
So my question still remains: can I recover my Toshiba laptop using this recovery partition?
PLEASE NOTE: as mentioned above, pressing F8 during boot has no effect and therefore Safe Mode cannot be accessed.

  • G4 that will not boot from any disc EXCEPT the Apple Hardware Test CD

We have a DP 1ghz Quicksilver PowerMac G4 that will not boot from any disc EXCEPT the Apple Hardware Test CD that came with the machine.
We were in the process of installing 10.4 Tiger before placing it for sale.
The Mac was originally OSX Server 10.1 that we later converted to a worksation running 10.3 Panther.
It has 1 GB of memory, 80GB hardrive, 250MB Zip Drive and a Radeon 7500 video card.
Since this machine only has a CD-R drive and not a DVD-R, we installed Tiger using another Mac via Target Disk Mode. The installation process went well, but when I tried to reboot I got a Kernel Panic right after startup screen with the grey Apple logo.
On some reboots we get to the blue startup screen, others it stops at the grey Apple logo, others a black box like the a Kernel Panic - but with no text. Twice it went directly into Open Firmware.
We have done the following during our troubleshooting:
    - Reseat RAM, Video Card, Hard Drive, Zip & CD-R connections
    - Remove RAM 1 stick at a time and reboot
    - Replace RAM with RAM from another working Quicksilver
    - Replace Video Card with one from another working Quicksilver
    - Zap PRAM
    - Reset CUDA switch
    - Unplug the MAC and remove everything (RAM, Battery, etc) for 30 minutes and try to reboot
    - Tried booting from the Macintosh Server G4 Software Restore CD
    - Tried booting from Mac OS X Server CD
    - Tried booting from AppleCare Protection Plan CD with TechTool
    - Tried booting from Diskwarrior CD
    - Tried booting from an external FireWire drive with a disk image of Tiger OS Install
    - Tried booting with the hard drive disconnected
The Mac WILL boot from the Apple Hardware Test CD and will pass ALL of the extended tests.

Conventional wisdom says that any Mac that will not boot up from a System/Install CD OS 9 or an Install CD Mac OS X, has a Hardware problem.
The diagnostic CD is a red herring because it uses a very primitive method of reading the CD, and so does not properly represent the machines general ability to read CDs.
I would look at the CD drive cables, etc, and see if another drive gives different results.
You have not mentioned using the Startup Manager (option key at Startup) to do any checking:

  • Sometimes iMac will not boot up

hey guys i have been having this on going problem for about a week now. Ok so here's what's happening, this usually happens at night. It seems that my iMac will not boot up, I have my computer put to sleep when I go to sleep and I can wake it up again in the morning. Now when I go out in the evening today for example, I just got home, woke my computer up and everything seemed fine. After a little bit my computer froze so, I restarted it and it will not boot up it would get stuck on the gray screen, sometimes the apple and the spinning thing under it (not the beach ball one) would show up and sometimes I would have just a grey screen. Over the past week I've tried the following:
    Reset the Pram
Booted up from the installation cd.
Removed all the cords waited for a couple min. then tried again
Eventually I can boot up, However I am very concerned to what the problem might be.
O yea I also ran a permission repair
One final thing if knows how to protect macs with an anti virus or something similar, it would really help me out.
    Thanks

    Hi Karim
The symptoms you describe could be caused by bad RAM.
Follow this link to learn about testing memory.
With your iMac you should have received an Apple Hardware Test CD, if not it's included on the Installation DVD (it would state that written somewhere on the DVD). There's also a RAM test included, but it isn't as dependable as memtest (mentioned in the link above) in my experience.
Follow this link to learn how to start the Apple Hardware Test.
    Kind regards

  • IMac will not boot from any mode except Target Disk

I have an Early 2008 Penryn iMac 24" MB398LL/A running OS X 10.7.4 (see specs below) that will not boot from ANY mode, It also has several strange vertical bars from top to bottom on the screen. They are about 10 px wide, with some pixels empty and looks a bit like a barcode if you squint at it.
I have tried Safe Boot, Force Boot, DVD Boot, FireWire/USB Boot,  and it always gets to the same point. It gets to the apple screen with the spinning gear and then after about 8 seconds it freezes. The only way it works at all is in Target Disk Mode. It pops right up on my Macbook Pro and I was able to grab all my info!
I have run Disc Utilities and Tech Tool on it many times from my MBP and it passes every test.
I reformatted the HD and installed 10.7 again, it still freezes up at the same point.
I have tried using Single User mode and every time have had to run /sbin/fsck -fy twice because it always says the disk is ok but it was modified on the first pass.
I thought maybe it had a bad video card or logic board but and I ran the Apple Hardware Test on many occasions and it always passes. Recently I was told about Loop Mode and just completed running the AHT for just over 30 hours without any errors at all.
    UPDATE...
Strange Part… I tried installing Mountain Lion in Target Disk Mode and everything went smoothly. When it restarted on its own the lines on the screen were gone for the moment, but the Mac still freezes up on the spinning gear and immediately restarts on its own.  I have run every thing listed above on it and still nothing. Sometimes the lines reappear then in two more starts they are gone.
I did manage to have it start one time got a copy of the  the error report (its at the bottom too) The Mac ran for at least 30 minutes with no problems, then the screen went crazy a few seconds and it became unresponsive. The mouse moved but that was all it could do. Now my iMac continually restarts itself, I don't have any more ideas, HELP!
    Specs...
The iMac "Core 2 Duo" 3.06 24-Inch Aluminum (Early 2008/Penryn) features a 3.06 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" processor (E8435), with two independent processor "cores" on a single silicon chip, a 6 MB shared level 2 cache, a 1066 MHz system bus, 2 GB of RAM (800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, PC2-6400), a 500 GB (7200 RPM) Serial ATA hard drive, a vertically-mounted slot-loading DVD±R DL "SuperDrive", NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS graphics acceleration with 512 MB of GDDR3 memory, a built-in iSight video camera, and built-in stereo speakers underneath the 24" glossy TFT Active Matrix LCD (1920x1200 native) display.

  • X79A-GD65 (8D) will not boot with 4930K or 3930K

    Short version:
My system will not boot but gets stuck at "09 Power on South Bridge Initialization"
    Detailed description:
I just bought this system and am when I tried to start it it got stuck at "09 Power on South Bridge Initialization". I have removed everything that is not necessary (gfx-card, HDDs, etc.) and only have the CPU and one memory stick inserted (in slot 1 as per the manual). I have also unplugged and put back all power cables from the PSU several times. I have also tried using BIOS A and B.
As I read on this forum that a BIOS update was needed for IVY-Bridge CPUs I bought a 3930K today to see if I could get the system up and running but it still gives me the same error code.
My board serial number is 601-7760-010B1312109204, assuming it is manufactured 1312 = December 2013.
I don't know the BIOS revision as I have never managed to get past the 09 status code.
Any ideas on what the problem could be?
Bought this monster PC as I have a delivery for a client in need of some RAM-heavy processing, so am really starting to feel stressed out about this by now.
    Thanks in advance!
    System details:
     - MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) X79 S-2011 ATX
     - INTEL CORE I7 4930K 3.4GHZ 12MB S-2011
     - INTEL 530 80GB SATA SSD MLC RESELLER KIT
     - INTEL 530 480GB SATA SSD MLC BULK (4 of these)
     - FRACTAL DESIGN INTEGRA R2 750W
     - ASUS GEFORCE GT 210 1GB DDR3 PCI-E VGA/DVI/HDMI SILENT
     - KINGSTON 64GB 1600MHZ DDR3 ECC REG CL11 DIMM (4X16GB) W/TS (two kits, 128GB in total, don't really need ECC but that's what I could find needing 16GB sticks)

even compared to just 10 years ago sales staff have became really dumb as there just hiring people who do not care about anything as long as they get there cut of a sale (usually all they know is basic Consumer parts they stock) and nearly non of them unless they specialize in that level of equipment will have 0 idea what they work with on a pro level part (ECC memory tends to be used on servers and Professional workstations so if they do not use that type of gear then they probably have no idea what ECC really is at all)!
also in that time some major things have happened especially with computer parts like the memory controller moved from the Chipset to the CPU same with the SATA controller , onboard GPU (thats now on the CPU and some have it some don't) and alot of other things and I guess that the people you dealed with had no idea the memory support has very little to do with the board (all the board can do is have BIOS Timing sets now and lists of parts it supports) and is now to do with the CPU alot more as it has the important stuff on it (there very close to a SOC (System On Chip) now)!
if you plan on building another computer remember to do some research yourself before you get a CPU as it is nearly the most important thing of all and they have different features tied to them and do not expect sales guys to have a idea unless there also a Technical support staff member too and work on computers that are of the same class your trying to make and have at least used the same level gear (usually if your doing something like that find a friend who is a computer nerd tell him what your trying to do and get him to help you choose all the parts)!
let me know how it goes when you get the Xeon and have it installed?

  • T61 will not boot with nvidia quadro 140m driver

    Hi all,
A couple of weeks ago, after allowing MS update to install some FTDI driver updates, my system will not boot up and hangs shortly after the initial vista loading screen. The screen goes black with some HD activity and eventually reboots. After trying a couple of restore points with no luck, I started to remove the latest driver updates and other software to my system again with no luck.
If I uninstall the nvidia driver and use the Standard VGA driver, it will boot and come up properly. I've done a bunch of web searches and searches on this site and can't find my exact circumstances. Its hard to believe that it could be a  hardware issue since it started after a software update, but since it hasn't been a problem for anyone else, I'm just not sure at this point.
I've tried earlier versions of the nvidia driver, removing other drivers and services trying to find a coincidence, but nothing seems to work. I'm kind of at a loss at this point. Does anyone have some suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    More info on my system:

    SMBIOS Version    2.4
Installed Physical Memory (RAM)    4.00 GB
Also, does anyone know if using the Standard VGA Display driver without problems on this system means that the video card hardware is working? In other words, I'm trying to rule out a hardware problem with my nvidia quadro 140m card, so if the system works fine with the standard vga driver, would that mean the hardware on the card is ok?
    Thanks,
    Dave
