Add Music without Syncing

Hey, I'm new to the apple realm and with my old mp3 player I could just continuously add music without worrying about keeping it on my computer. Now I can't find a way to do that with my iPhone. From all the information I've gone through, it looks like I have to keep my music on my computer. So here's probably the easiest question you'll come across. Can I add music to my iPhone without syncing? I don't like keeping music on my computer and would much rather delete it after having it on my device.

Music cannot be added to an iPod touch, iPhone, or iPod shuffle outside of a synchronization; the iPod shuffle supports being used as a storage drive, but music added this way is not playable on it.

  • Add photos without syncing?

Is there a way to add photos without syncng? Like from the internet?

how about some basic organisational systems?
the ability to have different folders for example? or to be able to import/sync/whatever from more then one folder on my (windows xp) computer? this is really annoying...
why also do the subfolders in my playlists on itunes dissapear on my 32 gig touch? i am really tired of waiding thru all my kids playlists (spoken aduio books for car trips etc) and my wifes xmass collections everytime i want to switch up some music! on itunes i just put them in subfolders for each person...
syncing is a pain, especially since i havent figured how to sync in what direction! (do i loose tunes when i save to ipod vrs computer when i alter both playlists independantly?)
    while im ranting....grin
why cant i use my touch hooked up to the computer with a cable similiar to a wifi? id love to get the weather etc... but i cant make it work because i dont have a wifi connection? thats nuts.
it doesnt want to support email that way either...
if anyone could lend some sanity to my life it would be hugly appreciated!
can we trick the computer/ipod interface cable into making it think its a wifi?
the ipod is locked in the glovebox of a 79fiat spyder 90% of the time, played thru a harmon kardon interface via fm unfortunatly so far to a eclipse deck thru a kicker amp into boston acoustic component speakers. a great way to cruise the summer away!

  • Playing iPod Music WITHOUT Syncing

I have a computer at work with iTunes, but it is a shared computer. Is there a way I can play my music from my iPod through iTunes without syncing?

You didn't read the whole post or you missed the bit that says "you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode .........You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes". You need to set the iPod to manual as I've already described.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
However once you are connected you still need to set it to manual to play the songs on it through iTunes on the computer.

  • Can I manually add music WITHOUT 'Erasing and Syncing'

I've always been able to import individual songs from my iMac to my iPhone - however, I recently got a MacBook, and now all I'm able to do is create a new playlist under the little "iPhone" badge that appears once you connect it to the computer. Like when you click and drag a song with your iPhone connected, a bar slides out from the right side that typically allowed me to then drop it onto "Ethan's iPhone" which would in turn sync the song.
I believe the solution to that is to check 'manually manage music and videos' under the iPhone settings page in iTunes - however, it then asks me to erase all of the music on my iPhone and sync it with my MacBook. But I would then lose a large majority of what I have since I imported a lot through CD's on my iMac.
Is there anyway around this? I really just want to import one or two individual songs - not erase everything.

Just add the songs you want to your iTunes library, go to 'iPhone', go to 'on this iPhone' and click 'autofill' at the bottom right

  • Add songs without syncing?

Here's the scoop: I am leaving for Europe soon and want to take my iPod, of course. My college computer is the one where I have all my music stored but that's disassembled and stored away for the summer.
I recently bought some new music that I want to put on my iPod. But when I put the new CDs in my parents' computer and it shows up in iTunes, I want to add it to my iPod without erasing my library (this would be disastrous). In other words, I want to selectively add songs but not sync the entire library.
The computer I would be using is authorized for my iPod, but it doesn't have my personal iTunes library on it, so I don't want the entire thing synced to my device. I just want to use it to add my new CDs so i can have the music with me when I leave.
If I change iTunes to manually manage songs, will it let me just add the songs to my device? Thank you!

If I change iTunes to manually manage songs, will it let me just add the songs to my device?
As long as it's not an iPod shuffle, yes. You'll just need to make sure it doesn't automatically synchronize when you connect the system to your parents' computer. Say "no" when it offers to synchronize, or while connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys in Windows (Command and Option keys on a Mac). This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
You'll then be able to set iTunes for manual management of that iPod and put your songs onto it without erasing what's already there.
Have a great time in Europe.
    Regards.

  • How to transfer music without syncing

The harddrive and video card on my Mac died recently and I didn't get a chance to back up my files, which means I've lost just about all of my music files, but it's still all on my ipod which has left me in absolute fear of syncing my ipod with itunes... I have music on the computer I'm now using that I need to have on my ipod but I don't know how to transfer it onto my ipod without losing what is already there, is there any way to get a drag and drop thing happening on my ipod so I don't have to sync it with itunes and lose everything that's already on my ipod?

    Hi amarama,
I would reccomend using alternitive software to iTunes to sync the music. Here is an article on about.com that may help: http://mp3.about.com/od/essentialsoftware/tp/Top-5-Alternatives-To-Itunes-Best-F ree-Software-For-Syncing-Music-To-Your-Ipod.htm

  • HT1296 add music without erasing and synicing exsisting music

i want to put my music from my phone on to itunes, but i don't wan to erase all my music that is currently on my iphone. i want to know how i can get it on itunes without clearing my playlists or clearing my music.

    Tip Via Wjosten
This is for those of you who have no backup of your current iTunes library, and are replacing the computer your phone normally syncs with or are just replacing the hard drive. Again, no backup.
By design, the iPhone will sync iTunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL iTunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you replaced your computer, or hard drive, your phone will see this as a "new" computer. The iTunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
If on a Mac, use this:
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/
If on a PC, use this:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under iTunes>Preferences>Devices(under Edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications on your computer(iCal & Address Book on a Mac, Windows Address Book or Outlook if using Windows). These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your iTunes library).
    6. Right click your phone in the left device pane & select "Reset warnings".
    7. Right click again and select "Backup".
    8. Right click again & select "Restore from Backup", select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your iTunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select "Merge".
Your phone should look just like it did when you started, with no data loss.
You should be good to go.

  • Quickly add music without iTunes Match

Ok. I have iTunes Match working perfectly and I love it, except for one thing.
I import a large music file... it's a 1-hour megamix (about 60mb) and I want to immediately get it on my iPhone and head out the door for a workout.
But I have to wait til iTunes uploads the file to iCloud which can take over 15minutes. Then I've got to download it on my iPhone from the cloud.
Is there way I can bypass this and simply drag and drop my music onto my iPhone?
    Thanks in advance.

Not at this time. With iTunes Match enabled direct syncing via USB or Wi Fi is disabled.

  • How do I put audio files in Music without syncing to iTunes?

I'm on the road with my laptop and iPhone.  I've created some audio files on the laptop and I need to put them on my iPhone.  I'd like to access them with the Music folder.  I haven't yet converted from MobileMe to iCloud and my desktop computer is the one I use to sync to my iPhone.  If I used my laptop to sync to my iPhone while on the road I believe that I'll lose all of my current music and podcasts on the iPhone.  Any suggestions as to how I could get these audio files from my laptop to my iPhone?
    Thanks,
    Landis

    Hmm.
Probably easier for me to put all my stuff on my wife's computer I suppose.
Rebuilding all those iTunes playlists is not very fun though.
And of course anything new that I want on my laptop I will have to duplicate on her laptop in the future.
Not sure how iCloud works just yet.
So you can't have two laptops and manually sync both people's stuff to one iPad?

  • Is there anyway to have the ability to edit and add contacts without syncing to the cloud?

My husband and I share an account.  He has a very large number of contacts that I do not need and don't want on my phone.  I turned off syncing my contacts to the cloud for this reason but now do not seem to have the ability to add contacts or edit my existing contacts.  Any suggestions?

It seems like you need to set up your own iCloud account.  Just set one up different from his.  Create a new one if you don't have another already.

  • How to add music without having to add a picture?

I want to add a song on n iWeb page so that someone can click it and it starts to play. However, when I drag and drop the MP3, it requires me to add a picture. I do not want a picture, I want to have the name of the song that can be clicked. How do I do this?

it requires me to add a picture
It does not reqiure a picture. It's optional. When you publish the page the image placeholder disappears.

Had 3G, moved to 3GS.  Backed up 3G and restored 3GS from backup with no problem on a Dell computer.  But now when I want to add songs, I get itunes message of death that the new iphone is synced to another computer and now wants to erase everything.  How can I add music without erasing everything on my new iphone?

Yes, I was aware of this but the phrase "Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library." is what worries me.  Will this eliminate my Notes, Calendar Events, etc or will it apply mostly just to the music?
