Add Ons,Internet Explorer and downloading PDF files

There is one website where I have an issue downloading some PDF files,I do not have problems on any other website, admin at problem website gets no other complaints.
I use Adobe Reader 11.0.08.
I discovered that if I DISABLE the ADD ON in Internet Explorer for Adobe Reader I can easily download all content from this problem website ,If I ENABLE ( my norml operation ) the ADD ON for Adobe Reader ,the PDF download problem appears again.
What exactly is the ADD ON doing ? I'm under the inmpression that it ties software to a website ,so when I ask for a PDF file on a website, the website looks for Adobe Reader and the PDF file opens  ,using Adobe Reader . . . if I disable the ADD ON . . . doesn't the website NOT know how to give me the PDF file . . .  yet with the ADD ON Disabled this problem website downloads the PDF file using Adobe ( it said it is using Adobe ) with no problem ?
Why ??
This issue happens on two differnt PC's ??

P.Willener,
Thanks for response.
The website is not public ,that I have PDF download issues using Adobe Reader 11.0.08. I have no PDF download issues on any other website with PDF files.
On this problem site I can download some files, others I can't.
The website admin gets no other complaints from other website users.
I discovered that on a friends new PC ,this website works good and I can download all files, no problems.
I have an older PC ( 2008 vintage )  ,it runs Windows 7 and IE 11 , with this PC I have PDF download issues on this website only , when the problem occurs the files stop and never complete downloading,  all recent website PDF  files download OK, older files do not ,on my PC   . . . but if I DISABLE the Adobe Reader ADD ON ,ALL files download with no problem, if I ENABLE the Adobe ADD ON ,I have problems.
My question is . . . why ?  When the ADD ON for Adobe Reader is ENABLED what is different then when the ADD ON is DISABLED ,for Adobe Reader ?
To me ,it seems that in the ENABLED mode ,the PDF file is opening within the IE browser ,using Adobe Reader , when the ADD ON is DISABLED the PDF file is opening in the External Reader mode , using Adobe Reader am I correct on this thinking ????
So again why would I have issues on this one website only ?  Yes there is a work around but my normal way of operating is what the Adobe Reader ADD ON ENABLED.
Any ideas what is going on ????  If you suspect the website any thoughts on what their problem could be ????   Again they get no other complaints ,I guess they all have new PC's.

  • Lion & Downloading .pdf Files

Since upgrading to Lion I can no longer see and download .pdf files from my bank and credit card company websites.  An empty window with a Quicktime symbol shows up.  A dialog box opens that says I need an add-on to "play" the file in Quicktime!  These are two different providers so it is not a problem with the companies.  I never had a problem with this with Snow Leopard.  Any ideas?

  • Firefox 5 is not able to download and open PDF files as Firefox 3.6 was able to. This looks like a bug to me. When will it be fixed?

There are many web sites that I visit to download statements that are in PDF format. In Firefox 3.6, when I selected a statement to download, Firefox opened a new window that indicated that the PDF is being downloaded. When the download is complete Firefox either opens the document or the document is opened outside of Firefox by Adobe Reader. In both Firefox 4 and 5, the PDF file download never occurs. This functionality has always worked in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. I currently use Adobe Reader X 10.1.0. I tried going back to Adobe Reader 9.4.5, but this did not make a difference. So I think the problem is in Firefox.

  • With the new update: I click on .pdf to download and multiple new tabs open w/o downloading .pdf file

Every time I click to download a .pdf file for a study on the following site
    http://www.regionschristiancenter.org/the-rabbis-son/rabbis-son-study-archives/archives-dvarim-deuteronomy/
Firefox opens multiple new tabs and does not stop doing so until I close the browser and even then it opens up on its own and continues to open multiple new tabs. If I do not get to it quickly enough, I may have to do this more than twice.
I have tried downloading a study on Internet Explorer and do not have this issue. There is also a Microsoft Word option that works on Firefox but it's the .pdf that is the problem.
I have not attempted to download any other .pdf files from other sites so I do not know if it is a problem with all .pdf files. But as stated above, it is not an issue with .pdf on IE.

Could you check your PDF viewer preference and try changing it to a different viewer to see whether that helps? This article describes how to access that setting: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]].
Unfortunately, the settings file that stores those application handling preferences sometimes contains crossed up settings or settings which Firefox cannot actually implement. In that case, you generally need to rename or remove that file and let Firefox rebuild it. The steps for that are in this article: [[Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link]] -- skip to the section "Reset actions for all content types".

  • I cannot download PDF files and have many other problems with updates since 3.6.18 are you guys going to fix or should I switch to IE?

    Hi Guys,
I have had heaps of trouble with plugins and add on's since using upgrades after 3.6.18. Now I cannot download PDF files!
Are you Guys going to fix what used to be a good browser or do I have to use IE?
    Please keep it simple.

-> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE any Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
    -> Update ALL your Firefox Plug-ins https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
-> go to View Menu -> Zoom -> click "Reset"
-> go to View Menu -> Page Style -> select "Basic Page Style"
-> go Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History -> '''''Time range to clear: select EVERYTHING''''' -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on ALL Options -> click "Clear Now"
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> General -> '''''When Firefox starts : select "Show My Home Page"''''' -> Type the address of the website which you want to be your HomePage e.g. http:www.google.com -> click OK
You can enable the Trustworthy Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working.

  • Help~how can I download and upload pdf file in simple solution

    I am new doing Portal.
I want to create a page which can provide download pdf file function and other page which can provide upload pfg file function.
I created a link to download file, and implemented uploading files by access the file directory.
Can this solution work in Portal?
I've tried, but I couldn't access file directory through web_dav.
Anyone can give me some suggestion?

You can only install apps (programs) via the App Store app on your iPad, or by downloading them via iTunes store on your computer and then syncing them to your  iPad - you can't download and install programs from the internet via a browser, they are not compatible with the iPad.

    Hi,
Which web browser are you using to view the PDF? Safari 5.1.8
When you open the PDF in Adobe Reader add-in you will either see a floating toolbar

    or a normal toolbar

both the toolbars have save button, use the button to save the file locally. I do not see these toolbars. I do, however see this
    and it works! Thanks
    Hope this will help you.

  • Firefox Hangs Downloading and Displaying PDF Files

I've had a problem with Firefox for several years where it hangs in the middle of the file when downloading and displaying a PDF file.  Typically it downloads a few hundred kilobytes and then stalls.
Recently I upgraded from Acrobat 8.1 to Acrobat 9.1.  The problem remains.  The problem may not occur on all PDF files.
I suspect the problem is related to the Plug-in, as I just installed the Foxit PDF Reader and Firefox now handles the PDF file without problem.
Any thoughts on how to solve this problem?
    Thanks,  Kent

Thanks for the replies. I don't think I was clear enough with my question.
What I want to be able to do is to click on a PDF file in my Firefox browser and be able to save it as an Adobe PDF file, not a Preview PDF file, in any folder on my computer, rather than just the specified default location for downloads. This way I can save, for example, phone bills in the phone bills folder and bank statements in the bank statements folder without having to save them to the desktop, "Get Info" on each, and change the "Open with:" box from Preview to Adobe Reader.
Fortunately, thanks to Michael's post, I found an add-on from Firefox that allows me to do just that: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/636
Thanks for your help. Now, within my Firefox browser, I can choose whether to view or download PDF files, always in Adobe rather than Preview, and when I save them I get the option to choose the location each and every time.

  • Cannot download PDF files from Internet with Safari.

What must I do (after resetting Safari) to be able to coherently download PDF files from the Internet

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

I am getting messages that I can't download and read .pdf files since I have the wrong Adobe reader. I know about their security disasters of course, but I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader from the Adobe web site and I have other ,pdf file readers as well, and for some reason they won't work either. I have 5 computers running top end processors and RAM. By this I mean I have one, this one which I am using that has an AMD Phenom Black 3.2 Quad-core with 8 GBs of Corsair top DDR2 RAM, my other two AMD have either an Athlon II triple core with 4 GBs of DDR2 Corsair RAM, one with the Phenom X4 965 3.4 GHz Quad-core with 8 GBs of their best DDR2 RAM, and two Intels with the i7 920 Processors using the triple channel 1366 socket processors and one with 8 GBs of low latency DDR3 RAM and the other with 4 GBs of the same RAM. I am getting the message on this one, which has a fresh install of XP Pro X64 operating system, as do the other 4 as well. I have run Avast Business Pro Anti-virus on this one, which I am getting the message on with a single result which I deleted, and also both Spybot Search and Destroy, which came back clean as well as Malwarebytes Antimalware, which got a lot of tracing cookies now removed, and SuperAntiSpware which also found a few cookies also now deleted. Can you tell me what I need to do to get these files to show as .pdf files rather than as a clean blank page. One other issue is that I wish to know how to turn off my downloads so they are saved and Mozilla will give me the option of returning them instead of me losing them all together as it does now. Thanks for your assistance. If there is another Adobe reader I should download and install, could you provide me with the link to it? I appreciate your assistance here
== When I download and try to read a .pdf file and when I am asked to turn off all Firefox files and if I do, I lose them since I need to know how to save them without rebooting my computer.

Brilliant! Problem solved! Thanks so much.

  • Mavericks 10.9.1. Freezes or trackpad becomes slow and unresponsive when viewing downloaded PDF files in Preview.Help!

The earlier post was my first attempt at posting and had some typos. Repeated with typos corrected.
I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late 2013 with preinstalled Mavericks.I now have the 10.9.1 update. Almost from the time of purchase in Nov '13, I have been experiencing freezes and slow & unresponsive trackpad. I have more or less narrowed this symptom as happening when viewing downloaded PDF files. The only option is to force eject, if available or shut down. I spoke to Support as I thought it was a RAM issue and they told me that in Mavericks RAM showing almost full was normal as it uses RAM differently. They took me through some resets and cleaning up which has helped a little but freezing stll happens. This never happened with my Macbook AIr running Lion. Any suggestions?

    Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late '13-Mavericks 10.9.1
    Macbook Air 13" Mid '11-Lion
Macbook Aluminium 13" Late '08-Snow Leopard

So a PDF file that you can view in Preview on your MBA causes your new MBP to lock up and/or slow down. Is this right? Also you say more or less narrowed down to PDFs with Preview but does the computer exhibit this behavior with other programs and if so under what conditions? And how much free hard drive space do you have?
Viewing memory use in Mavericks is different than with previous versions of the OS. Today it looks like we need to pay attention to what Apple calls Memory Pressure which is gauged by the bar graph in Activity Monitor and to the Virtual Memory being used. When the memory pressure graph bar gets too high it turns red and that's bad news. Looking at how much memory is being used doesn't help - I have a 16GB computer and with almost nothing running it still shows something like 15.79GB used but the memory pressure graph is just a think green line. So unless you see the memory pressure bar turning red lets not worry about memory usage at the moment.
If among the things AppleCare had you do was reinstall Mavericks then I recommend a trip to the Apple store - and take a problem PDF file with you to demonstrate.

    Question
I can no longer send or respond to email from my Firefox browser. I closed and sent from Internet explorer and it works fine. What changed? The only thing different this morning, I downloaded Adobe uprade?

I had this hotmail issue myself a while back. I Googled, scanned MS website, scanned MSN website, visited forums, couldn't figure it out. I tried Firefox and Opera and even changed the Opera mask setting from Opera to Internet Explorer. Nothing worked. My best guess was that I was signing on (with the new MSN Live as opposed to MSN Hotmail - the OLD interface) with the "Remember me on this computer?" box checked. I now make sure it is un-checked (which is not the default) and hotmail lets me in.
Not exactly sure if that is the real remedy, but thot I'd throw the story your way just in case...
