Add pdf file into NUMBERS?

How do I simply add a small pdf file into Numbers. I'm thinking so I'll see a 'pdf' icon in the cell - click it - and the pdf file opens.
I hope you can do this in NUMBERS! Can I?
Thanks,
Larry

From page 83 of the Numbers '09 User Guide (in chapter 4, _Working with Table Cells_):
Adding Images or Color to Table Cells
You can add graphics or color to individual table cells or to an entire table.
To add an image or color to a table cell:
1 Select the cell.
2 Click Inspector in the toolbar, and then click the Table inspector.
3 To add an image, choose Image Fill from the Cell Background pop-up menu.
See “Filling an Object with an Image” on page 225 for instructions.
4 To add background color, choose Color Fill or Gradient Fill from the Cell Background
pop-up menu. See “Filling an Object with a Solid Color” on page 223 and “Filling an
Object with Blended Colors (Gradients)” for more information.
Numbers '09 can link to an (outgoing) email message or to a URL on the web. No other links are supported.
If your pdf is a single page image, you'll be able to use it (not tested) or its contents saved as a jpeg file as the background fill in a cell as described above.

Barry

  • How to add PDF files into a slides? (Flash 8)

    I am new to flash and I am using Macromedia Flash 8. My task is simple enough: I need create a Presentation with Screens from PDF files: I have 10-12 PDF files which I want convert into flash presentation.
    I have read this tutorial:
    http://w3.id.tue.nl/fileadmin/id/objects/E-Atelier/Phidgets/Software/Flash/fl8_tutorials.p df
    Chapter 11: Basic Tasks: Create a Presentation with Screens.
    I'm having trouble how to add PDF files into a slides: I want insert a whole pdf file as separate slide, without splitting pdf file into separate elements: pictures, text, etc. I tried import pdf file into Flash, wheen import there is shown prompt how program should process this pdf file(add in stage, library, as keyframes, etc) , not clear which option is correct for my task. What I got is pdf file splitted into multiple images, text, - which is not what I want. I want keep PDF files without changes, preserve original design and formatting, just convert this pdf into flash, so presentation will consist of PDFs organized in correct order, then add navigation buttons and some effects. How to solve this task?

    Just to avoid potential confusion... PDF is an Adobe format, but Flash 8 is/was not.  Flash 8 came out before Adobe bought Macromedia.  Even today, I don't believe anything has been done to accomodate direct integration of PDF content in Flash.

    Open the PDF in preview or you favorite PDF reader, then drag pages from the page view to a Numbers sheet

    You can link to a webpage or an email in Numbers-- that's it.
    The best way I found to do this is to enable websharing on your machine (see this article if you are running 10.8: http://lowendmac.com/crews/12lc/web-sharing-mountain-lion.html)
    You can then place your pdf files in the folder /Users/<your user name>/Sites/<somefolder>
    Then link to this using the url  "<your machine name>.local/~<your user name>/<somefolder>/<pdf Name>
    My machines name is "Proton" (you can get this from the System Preferences > Sharing pane)
    My user name is "wayne"
    so I stored a pdf file (DM00027543.pdf) in the folder "/User/wayne/Sites/PDFTest"
    and stored the URL "http://proton.local/~wayne/PDFTest/DM00027543.pdf" in the "URL" field of the Hyperlink inspector

    There is absolutely no way to stop any file you put on the internet from being downloaded. That's how the internet works.
    Digital Rights Management can control who can OPEN a copy of a file and when. If you are a big company with 5-6 figure budget, this can be interesting.

  • How do I combine several PDF files into one?

    I have renewed Adobe subscription and would like to combie several PDF files into one. I was able to do this last year, but can no longer combine files. What am I doing wrong? Step-by-step answer, please. Thank you.

    As TSN has indicated we have no idea what program you are using, other than you posted in the Acrobat forum. In Acrobat you go to File > Create > Combine (varies with version of Acrobat). You can also open one and then use the pages>Insert to add the others.

  • How do i combine multiple pdf file into a single pdf file?

    how do i combine multiple pdf files into a single pdf file?

    The thread was started in early March and it's Mid-April, I know this very well. The OP of this thread posted a very common and simple question or maybe he/she would have resolved this. For an Adobe Acrobat user it's not at all difficult to combine multiple PDF files into one. But to combine PDF files full version of Adobe Acrobat is mainly required, otherwise PDF files can't be combined. For example, I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. These simple steps are mainly required to combine PDF files:
    Open Adobe Acrobat.
    Click on Combine and click on Merge files into a single PDF.
    A window will be appearing, click on Add Files and select the PDF files you want to combine.
    Arrange the selected files in any order with the help of Move Up and Move Down button.
    Now click on Combine File and the selected PDF files will be combined within a few seconds.
    A new PDF file will be created. Click on Save As and name this new PDF file. Then, click on Save.
    A new PDF file will be created and all the selected PDF files are combined in it. The steps shown above might be different in other versions of Adobe Acrobat. Other than this, some third-party PDF merge software are also available. Most of them are available with a demo version for free evaluation. I've heard much about SysInfoTools PDF Merge software on other forums and directories and it's demo version is freely available. One may check its demo version if Adobe Acrobat (full version) is not available.

  • How to merge the pdf files into single pdf?

    I need to merge the two (or) three pdf files into a single pdf via scripting. I used the below code for inserting(merging) the pages.
    this.insertPages({cPath: "Test.pdf"})
    But its merginging(inserting) successfully. But the links not working after inserting. kindly advise me the solution or any other ways.
    I am using Acrobat 8.0.
    Thanks in advance..

    http://gotofritz.net/blog/howto/joining-pdf-files-in-os-x-from-the-command-line/   <- this works but it strips OPI
    Here's what I did: (This is shell script)
    #!/bin/bash
    FROM="./"
    DESTINATION="./unCombined/"
    for i in $(ls *_F_ga.pdf)
              do
              BACK=`echo "$i" | sed "s/_F_/_B_/g"`
              if [ -f $BACK ] ; then
                        open "$i"
                        osascript selectMenuItem.scpt
                        sleep 3
                        mv -f "$FROM/$i" $DESTINATION
                        mv -f "$FROM/$BACK" $DESTINATION
              fi
    done
    This calls an applescript
    tell application "/Applications/Adobe Acrobat X Pro/Adobe Acrobat Pro.app"
    activate
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
              tell process "Acrobat"
                        click menu item "combine Front and Back" of menu "File" of menu bar 1
              end tell
    end tell
    Which activates a menu item (made with Java and saved into Macintosh\ HD/Users/*user*/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Acrobat/10.0/JavaScripts)
    app.addMenuItem({
        cName: "combineFB",
        cUser: "combine Front and Back",
        cParent: "File",
        cExec: "combineFrontAndBack()",
        nPos: 0
    Which activates this script (again saved into Macintosh\ HD/Users/*user*/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Acrobat/10.0/JavaScripts)
    combineFrontAndBack = app.trustedFunction(
    function(){
    // get the file name and extension
    var sFullFileName =  this.documentFileName
    // make into an arry
    var aFullFileName = sFullFileName.split('_F_');
    // build a file name array dropping the extension
    var aFileName = new Array(aFullFileName.length - 2);
    for (i = 0; i < aFullFileName.length - 1; i++) {
    aFileName[i] = aFullFileName[i];
    // recreate file name
    var sFileName = aFileName.join('.');
    var back = sFileName + "_B_ga.pdf";
    app.beginPriv(); // Explicitly raise privilege
    //add back page based on front page name
    this.insertPages ({
                        nPage: 0,
                        cPath: "/Macintosh HD/Users/jfox/test/" + back,
                        nStart: 0
    this.saveAs("/Macintosh HD/Users/jfox/test/" + sFileName + "_ga.pdf");
    this.closeDoc(true);
    app.endPriv();
    return true;
    It's convoluted and comparitively slow, but it works.
    EDIT: I just realized you probably meant document links and not OPI links. Ha ha. I have no Idea what this would do to document links.

  • Script for Place PDF file into a InDesign file

    Hi everyone, i need to import a PDF file into a InDesign document and in order to do this i used scripts found over  the net (e.g. Zanelli's script ecc.) but i tried this solution:
    function(){
        app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.interactWithAll;
        var myDocument, myPage;
        if(app.documents.length != 0){
            myDocument = app.activeDocument;
        else{
            alert("No document opened");
            exit();
         if (app.selection[0] == undefined) {
            alert("Select box");
            exit();
         } else {
                var myPDFFile = File.openDialog("Select PDF:");
                if((myPDFFile != "")&&(myPDFFile != null)){
                    myDocument.viewPreferences.rulerOrigin = RulerOrigin.PAGE_ORIGIN;
                    myDocument.viewPreferences.horizontalMeasurementUnits = MeasurementUnits.MILLIMETERS;
                    myDocument.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits = MeasurementUnits.MILLIMETERS;
                    var myData = new Array;
                    myData[0] = app.selection[0].parentPage;
                    myData[1] = app.selection[0].geometricBounds;
                    myData[2] = app.selection[0];
                    myPlacePDF(myDocument, myData, myPDFFile);
        //FUNCTIONS
        function myPlacePDF(myDocument, myData, myPDFFile){
            var myPDFPage;
            var myPage = myData[0];
            var myGeometricBounds = myData[1].toString().split(",");
            app.pdfPlacePreferences.pdfCrop = PDFCrop.cropMedia;
            var myCounter = 1;
            var myBreak = false;
            while(myBreak == false){
                if(myCounter > 1){
                    myPage = myDocument.pages.add(LocationOptions.after, myPage);
                 app.pdfPlacePreferences.pageNumber = myCounter;
                 myRectangle = myPage.rectangles.add(undefined, undefined, undefined, {geometricBounds:[myGeometricBounds[0],myGeometricBounds[1],myGeometricBounds[2],myGeometricBounds[3]]});
                 myRectangle.clearFrameFittingOptions();
                 myRectangle.frameFittingOptions.fittingOnEmptyFrame = EmptyFrameFittingOptions.PROPORTIONALLY;
                 myRectangle.frameFittingOptions.autoFit = true;
                 myRectangle.frameFittingOptions.fittingAlignment = AnchorPoint.CENTER_ANCHOR;
                 myPDFPage = myRectangle.place(File(myPDFFile), false)[0];
                 if(myCounter == 1){
                    var myFirstPage = myPDFPage.pdfAttributes.pageNumber;
                else{
                    if(myPDFPage.pdfAttributes.pageNumber == myFirstPage){
                        myPage.remove();
                        myBreak = true;
                myCounter = myCounter + 1;
             myData[2].remove();
    what i would is, before the script place every single page of PDF file in the document, determine if the same page of the Pdf file is vertical or horizontal, to make the right section for the page.
    Is it possible?
    Thank you

  • Urgent - How to add pdf files to template document in multiple sessions?

    Hi, forum!
    VERY new to using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, so I am reaching out for help.
    We have a "template" document with pre-assigned bookmarks.  I need to add multiple PDF files into it, either by inserting pages, adding the complete PDF, and/or extracting pages, then assigning the locations to each individual bookmark.
    The ending page count will be about 300 pages, and there is no way that I can create the complete document in one day or one session.
    A) What is the best way to add pages from multiple PDF files into this "template" document?
    B)  Is there a way to add pages in one session, save it out, then add additional pages to the same output document on a different day, etc., without having to "re-add" the previous pages and until I am done and ready to finalize the document?
    I would really appreciate a fast response, as my new job kind of depends upon me doing this well...
    Thanks and Merry Christmas!

    Thanks, George!
    I will try your suggestion.
    While waiting for a response, I ran into another problem:
    Some of the PDF documents I am to work from are "protected," meaning I can read them but not extract any pages or click to add them to a list of files to import...but I need to extract some or all pages from it.  Any suggestions on this?
    Thanks!

    program from SAP.
    Please let me know how this is possible.

    Yes, you can do it. You have to use an absolute path and add it not only to the folder but to the .manifest
    I wrote a blog post explaining how to do it:

  • How to add .pdf files to iBooks?

    Hi, I just want to know how I can place .PDF files into the cloud so that I can read .PDF files on my iPod Touch. I'm using a Mac, Windows 8 PC and an iPod Touch.
    I've got the .PDF files I want to read on my Mac and Windows8 PC.
    Could someone please help me?
    Thanks!

    You can follow this step by step:
    Launch iTunes>Go to File > Add to Library, or simply hit Command+O>Select your PDF>It will import to your “Books” section in iTunes>Connect your
    iPod touch. (Note that you must have iBooks installed on your device. If you don’t, you can download free it from iTunes)>Sync your device to
    import your PDFs to the iPod Touch>The PDF will show up on your bookshelf under a section designated for PDFs.

    if you create your doc files by the help of WORD, you could use a Microsoft add on (it depends of your WORD Version).

  • Acrobat XI PRO: Create a Table of Contents (TOC) automatically in top, after I have combined several pdf.files into a single pdf.file

    Hey
    I have now tried for hours, but now I give up!
    MY WISH -
    Create a Table of Contents (TOC) automatically after I have combined several pdf.files into a single pdf.file.
    I have already bookmarks, shown on the screen (see screenshot below) but I want those bookmark to be visualised in a separate TOC in the top of the combined files.
    This new TOC (which I have inserted) shall be printable and serve as a cover page in a binder.
    I have seen other cheap pdf.programs in the market (e.g. PDF Converter Professional 7.3) which are able to make the above things, easy, fast and nice.
