ADD RAM HP 2000 2D49WM

Ok, I have 4 GB Ram in my laptop, I want to add more, I guess either 2 or 4 GB. I did download the CPU Z, which has told me that I only have ONE slot used, which is good news, and that with a Kingston DDR3, looks like an 800MHZ card.
Do I have to buy another 800 MHZ card or can I buy (should I buy) a 1600 MHZ?  Is there anything else that's important, other than knowing DDR3 SDRAM?

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03763129.pdf
Memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1 on page 2.
The tool you are using is only reporting half the speed of the memory.
You need to double it, which gets you at the 1600 MHz.
To max out the memory in your PC and for best performance, you should get another 4 GB PC3-12800 chip (1600 MHz).

Is it okay if I added RAM to my MacBook? now my RAM is 6GB. this will make my macbook more heat or not because it need to process big RAM right?

Yes, it's perfectly OK to add RAM to your machine. It can use up to 16GB. There may be a minuscule increase in operating temperatures after going from 4GB to 6GB, but nothing significant.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can, but it's very difficult and you will void warranty, so it's better not to do that and buy the iMac with the amount of memory you think you will need

Can I add ram to this macbook to be able to make it more compatible and be able to open applications that I can't without upgrading my software?
Is It worth it? How much Ram would I have to add for Lion software? Is that possible?
I am not in the position for a new computer and this one is good, it is just frustrating that some application that friends send to me do not open.
Thanks for you help and support.

I'm possibly wrong here but I suspect opening a brand new MBP to add parts yourself will void the warranty.  It is probably in the small print.  I certainly would not risk it for an expensive Apple product.
Some (Windows) laptops have easy access to memory and disk slots that do not necessitate taking the complete back cover off.  However, Apple does not make life easy for you.
However, if you are going for a 'used' machine it is probably worth a try.
Not possibly, definitely wrong, Ram and Hard Drive are considered user replaceable and will not void the warranty if changed.

  • How do I add RAM ?

    hello,
i am a tech freak and have a simple question here:
any one has any clue on how I can go about "adding RAM" and what that means ? i got a printer, Brothers HL 2040 recently and it prints fine from my ibook G4 OS 10.3, but I was also advised to "add RAM" "to it" ? What does that mean and how do i go about doing that.
    xx

    Hey Mr,
How on earth am I supposed to know, as a novice, ( and I DID QUALIFY THAT) that there is adding of RAM to a :
    1. Printer
    2. Computer ???
The question was unprecise for exactly that reason !! I didn't know, and needed consultation on whether in the context of having bought a particular model of printer, should one add RAM ?? I didn't know there is such a thing called adding RAM to a printer and adding RAM to a computer !
If that phrase is self explanatory from your perspective, then perhaps you needn't have answered my question. I don't think the sarcastic reply was helpful or is warranted.
    xx

  • ADD RAM To Imac

    Hello,
I would like to add RAM to my Imac, could I buy it with Apple ?
    Thks for helping

You can usually ask the local Apple Store about this; they'll ask you a few questions and determine if they can upgrade it for you, and how much it'll cost.
If you are thinking of performing this upgrade yourself, then you'll want to identify which iMac you have, as some models are easy to open up and access available RAM slots, and some are not.  Recent 21.5" iMac systems don't have user-upgradable RAM, for instance.
Use  > About This Mac to see which model of Mac you have.

Why don't you start with the documentation: Coordinate Systems (Spatial Reference Systems)
Especially paragraph 6.9 (6.9 Creating a User-Defined Coordinate Reference System ) should be helpful for you.

from looking online it looks as though your model can take 8Gb maximum.
I have recently been using a site called Mr Memory, they have your model listed on their site - elitebook 2740p

  • Can you add RAM to 2GB MacBook Air after purchase?

I'm thinking of getting a Macbook Air. Money is tight and 2GB RAM is cheaper than 4GB. If you purchase a 2GB MacBook Air, can you later add more RAM?

Depending on what you are planning to use the system for, adding more RAM may not be an issue. The current 11" entry-level MBA is a capable system which would only really begin to bog down if you were intent on running a number of applications at the same time. While 2Gb RAM is really the minimum for running Lion efficiently, the use of an SSD rather than traditional hard drive actually helps keep performance levels up, even when the system has to use virtual memory.
To my mind, for the average user, the 60Gb drive is more of a limiting factor.

  • Add Ram toan Imac G5

    Hi,
I'm trying to add 2GB memory to my iMac. Found new one on eBay,
2GB DDR2 SDRAM PC2-4200 (533MHz) ECC, placed it in the only slot available,
which had a 512 MB in it. The iMac did not recognize the 2 GB RAM.
What could possibly be wrong? Beside the RAM being bad.
    Ed

    Hi Ed,
When I checked other vendors' site, the PC2-4200 is showing for your G5. Crucial knows faster RAM will clock back so that may be a way for them to limit inventory.
These are the two vendors from whom I've bought all our Mac RAM for over a decade:

  • I want to upgrade my Imac from Snow Leopard to Yosemite, but only have 1Gb RAM. Can I add RAM, then upgrade?

I want to upgrade from Snow Leopard to Yosemite, but can't because I only have 1Gb Memory.  Can I add more memory, then do the upgrade? What should I buy?

    gwd440 wrote:
Its older than I realised. Purchased in 2009, but is an early 2008 model.
So I'm possibly aiming a bit high by going for Yosemite?  Would an earlier o/s be a more realistic option?
On the RAM issue, I fully agree with what Etresoft has written. I have just visited various sites, including OWC, Mactracker and iFixit and your Mac seems to have the Penryn processor. It will address 6GB of RAM which is more than enough for your use.
Where I differ from him, is Lion. The last big cat which I liked was probably Snow Leopard, and thereafter now Yosemite. There has been a lot of successes with your generation migrating to Yosemite, but with 6GB of RAM. Admittedly there were also problems for some, but I have observed even more successes even after initial problems. Mostly these problems were caused by adware or crapware installations. (Thank you Etresoft for a wonderful utility!)
Your iMac also has a SATA interface for a 3GB SSD, which is good enough. We have a Mac here with the same interface, still with a normal conventional stock HD running Yosemite, but only 4GB of RAM and it is running fine.
Of course the newer technology processors, faster RAM, PCI SSD, greater bandwidth on the newer Macs perform much better. But as I am on the older side, (ha ha), some of the 'vintage' Macs are still my favourites to use for certain tasks. Like using 9.09 for doing certain things and then converting the results afterwards for completion!
But, once again, it is your decision and only you can decide as you yourself knows your own circumstances better. Weigh up the options, considering what Etresoft has pointed out vs what Yosemite offers ito continuous support, security and features. There are a lot of your type of iMacs out there, and some of the users spoke about feeling like having a new Mac. There were others, who were wailing though. You could of course, also follow the advice of a test installation on an external and testdrive it, or wait for the release of 10.10.2 which I read somewhere is eminently close?
    Have fun
    Leo
