Add/Remove programs after update?

I have just updated the firmware for my ipod 5G
Add/Remove programs has now got 3 versions of my ipod listed.
2005-10-12 67.8MB
2006-01-10 117.00MB
2006-03-23 168.00MB
Do I keep each of these or is the latest update cumulative of the others? I don't want to upset the ipod in anyway as I know updating firmware can cause issues but I would be grateful for advice re: uninstalling older firmware?
I would soon accumlate a lot of entries for my ipod if they all had to remain. I am not even sure what way I would re-install the ipod if I reinstalled XP as I now have the three version - hope this makes sense. Thanks

Thanks for your reply - any order for removal.
The first install was very small but the other one is much bigger so not too sure which to uninstall first or if I just remove the last firmware update but leave my orginal 'tiny' install file? I 'think' it may be the last firmware update only.

• Package status not appended in the Add Remove Programs in control panel after the installation.

Hi,
I have a strange problem with "Package status not appended in the Add Remove Programs after the installation.".
Like, onec the package is installed via SCCM, it should be listed in the Add Remove programs with the package name, version and the install date.
At times on random machine these details are not appended. Although the application works fine on the machine, but the correct details are not populated in Add/ Remove programs.
There is no issue with the package as it shows correct details on few other machine where it is installed.
This behaviour is random on random machines. Hence, very difficult to track the reason.

Hi Jason,
Yes, i have tried Jorgen's suggestion, ans as said earlier. It install the application smoothly on any other machine (any random machine) perfectly with correct details in Add Remove Programs.
As mentioned earlier, the same package, same environment, same set of machines with same OS, it installs correctly on few machines.. and on few its just misses to add correct details in Add Remove progs.
If it was related to package, how does it install corretly on other machines?? How does the same package installs correctly when done manually or by that means by PSEXEC.
To a matter of fact, we are checking our package for the multiple times now, just to make sure it is buldled correctly with correct install scripts. We are trying to search different multiple ways to see what makes the package to skip the
correct entry in the Add Remove.
To add, this is not with one package, it happens with random package with random machine. There is not typical behaviour that could be tracked.
All the installations done via SCCM 07, with admin account.
This looks more tricky and complex then as simple as saying, its the fault of packaging.
I hate to say this but this is NOT a CM07 problem, You will need to work with your packaging team, and use tools like process monitor, psexec and the msi log to determine why it is failing.
Your first step is to find a pc where you can consistent get the setup to fails. once you get that you can use process monitor and the msi log files to determine what is going on.

Please help! The Ipod updator nor iTunes is listed in the add/remove programs list. Can you help? Is it safe to delete the iTunes folder in program files and just reinstall?

hi Bryce!
when you find yourself in this situation, first download the Windows Installer Cleanup utility, and use it to remove installation registry entries for your Quicktime, iTunes and Ipod Updater:

• Firefox crashed 2 days ago and will now not open, and won't uninstall via Control panel add/remove programs; the files are still there on Windows Explorer. IE8 still works.

My PC is a fujitsuscaleo 600, last year I had a new hard drive and some extra RAM fitted and since then has been good - have used, and updated Firefox for over 6 years. in August I installed TrendMicro antivirus and for different reasons this has been uninstalled/re-installed twice. AFter letting it expire, I re-installed ParetoLogic PC health advisor (I think in August too)and allowed it to try updating some graphics drivers following a scan - this was unsuccessful so I marked them to ignore (something about my graphics card not supporting the drivers downoladed). I can see the mozilla files on WIndow Explorer but if I click 'remove' (control panel, add/remove programs) I get a very short 'hourglass' then nothing; if I click Firefox icon I get the same. Help!

• ITunes 10.5.2 failed on my Windows XP system.  Now my phone is not recognized.  I tried installing manually.  I tried to repair using Add/Remove programs.  Still get errors.

Attempted update to iTunes 10.5.2 failed on my Windows XP system.  Now my phone is not recognized.  I tried installing manually.  I tried to repair using Add/Remove programs.  Still get errors.

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
Good Luck!!.

• Want to delete then reload firefox, but in add/remove programs, i click remove and nothing happens.

Firefox will not work. I want to delete it, then reload it anew. But when I got to add/remove programs and click remove, nothing happens.

I would recommend to download the driver appropriate for your system from the Canon webiste or, after installing it, to run software update and it will detect it for you.
If you have the last driver appropriate for your system, you may wish to reset the printing system. To do this, go to Sys prefs/print and fax and, upon clicking minus button, also press Option/alt key. You will be asked to confirm, do it. Then, add the printer by pressing plus button, it should work now.
But, before doing this, download the last good driver, CDs usually contain outdated drivers.

• How do I remove an advertising program by the name of SmartSuggestor? I cant find it in the ad ons and I cant find it in my add remove programs on my pc.

I keep getting these stupid ads that are apparently from smartsuggestor but I cant find the program anywhere on my pc then I contacted the company and they tell me that it is a firefox issue yet i cant find it in the firefox settings either. I went into the Smart Suggestor site and the name of the extension/program came up as "No extension Found". I cant find anything that even resembles anything to do with the program at all not in the add remove program through control panel or through the extension plug ins area in firefox and was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.
I did not download this crap then all of a sudden I am plagued with pop up adds and other sorts of advertising all stemming from this bloody Smart Suggestor. I have got myself a good pc cleaner along with a few Malware removers and also upgraded my security programming but nothing will either find nor rid my pc of this problem. I have downloaded and reinstalled a fresh copy of Firefox and I am still having the same issue, has anyone else gone through this and how can I get rid of this problem?

• Acrobat 9.2.0 MSP doesn't display in add/remove programs

I installed the Acrobat 9.2 MSP and it shows successful installation but it doesn't show Acrobat 9.2.0 in add/remove programs.  It still shows Acrobat 9.0.0.  Any reason why this would do this?

Okay, found the solution--I think.  Fire up Acrobat, go to Help/Repair Acrobat Installation.  After a LONG bit of disk-bashing, the process ends and Acrobat then shows up in the add/remove programs list.
I may just keep the program around a bit longer now, now that I'm not quite as paranoid about it as I was.
Ugh.

• How  do I unstall elements 6 in XP it's not in Add/Remove Programs

I had elents 6 and when I installed 7 it said I didn't have to remove 6, so I didn't, just in case I didn't like 7 or needed 6.  Then I forgot about 6 being there and when I installed 8 it said I didn't have to uninstall 7, so I didn't uninstall it either.  Now I found 6 and want to uninstall it but it is not in Add/Remove Programs,  I searched the KB and it said when it couldn't be uninstalled with Add/remove you could do it manually.  then the directions for manual uninstall says Open Control Panel, go to Add/Remove programs, and uninstall Elements 6.  So it says essentially "if you can't do "This", then "Do This".
After listening to music for about 40 minutes on the telephone, the Tech Support guy said I would have to pay him $40, or go to the KB .  I told him that the information in the KB was wrong when you searched "Uninstall Elements 6" and he said the only thing I could do was pay him $40, non refundable, and that if something went wrong with one of the other Adobe programs I would have to pay them to fix that!
ANY SUGGESTIONS. . . PLEASE, otherwise I'll just leave 2,000+ files that take up half a gig, and hope it doesn't give me other problems in the future.  I was considering just deleting the Elements 6 folder and then use system mechanic to fix the registry.  or IF I can find the original CD, can I use it to uninstall it, or could I reinstall it, without it screwing up my 7 and 8, and see if it shows up in "Add/Remove Programs"?

Find the original CD and launch the Setup.  If it doesn't give you the option of removing the current installation, install PSE 6 again and then uninstall it from the Control Panel.
If that doesn't work, then you can follow the instructions in the tech note that you were reading:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408483.html
Just skip the first section, "Run the Photoshop Elements 6 Uninstaller".  The remaining sections will lead you through a manual removal.  (I agree that the instructions are confusing.)
But it's better to do reinstall and then uninstall if you can.

• Remove labview 2009 without using add/remove program

Hi all,
I have problem with removing LabVIEW 2009.
I have deleted some folders in C drive, NI folder.
Now I can't run my LabVIEW 2009 and it doesn't show up in my add/remove program list.
I tried to delete all folder and files in C drive under NI folder, but error message pop out shows that I do not have the authority to do so.
So, how can I remove it completely ?
I intended to reinstall LabVIEW 2009 after I have removed it completely.
Appreciate your help very much.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

That is why I say try to reinstall LabVIEW. It might just do a repair of your installation. Then you can use add/remove programs to completely uninstall it.
But when you completely uninstall it there will be NI folders remaining. These are things like user.lib.
Have you tried to reinstall the runtime engine?
One last thing. I don't know how you got your install so messed up but remember that if you build an installer you should not install that onto a system with the development environment. There are so many things that can go wrong.

• Old version of firefox in add remove programs

When I originally installed Firefox on my machines it was Firefox 11 I have updated to the most recent version Firefox 16 but in Add/Remove programs is still shows Version 11. When I do a scan on my network it still shows version 11 on all my machines. This is an issue because I need to know what the users are using. I have given the users the ability to update their FF and thought they were not doing it. Also there is only one install of FF showing in Add/remove programs..I know others have reported the old and the new versions in Add/remove programs

To confirm what Firefox version is currently installed, see
*Find what version of Firefox you are using
Alternately, go to Firefox Help -> Troubleshooting Information and look under Application Basics for the version number.
If the only problem is that your Windows Control Panel list of installed programs says that Firefox 11 is installed instead of the actual version, a simple solution might be to simply download the latest Firefox version from mozilla.org (currently 16.0.1) and reinstall Firefox (you can optionally uninstall Firefox first but make sure you do NOT select the "Remove my Firefox personal data" option ... if you do, all of your Firefox bookmarks, passwords, and other profile data and settings will be lost!).

• I recently downloade Firefox v6.0 but had to remove it via the Control Panel Add/Remove Program. When I tried to re-install it I keep getting an error messsage that said that I had to reboot to fully remove the previous copy of v6.0.

I recently downloade Firefox v6.0 but had to remove it via the Control Panel>Add/Remove Program. When I downloaded v6.0 again and tried to re-install it I keep getting an error messsage that said that I had to reboot to fully remove the previous copyof v6.0. However when I did reboot I get the same error message. I'm sort of stuck in a loop and can't figure out how I can re-install v6.0. I am running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop.

Please do the following.
Click Help | Check For Updates. The option to update should appear and version 3.6.17 should download and install.
However, sometimes things go pear-shaped and you get version 3.5.19. If that happens, repeat the same steps to update to 3.6.17.
Once you have 3.6.17 installed, you'll get the opportunity to update to the current version which is 4.0.1 Please don't do that for the moment because you first of all have to update your plugins. To do the latter, please do the following.
Go to http://www.java.com/en/ and install the latest version of Java.
Update Adobe Shockwave for Director via http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
Update Adobe Flash via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Update Adobe Reader via http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO
For security details regarding the Adobe updates, see: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa11-02.html
Once you've updated all those, go to Help | Check For Updates again to update to version 4.0.1

• CS4 No longer in Add/Remove Programs

I installed CS4 Master Collection on my computer and had a lot of problems with it, so I decided to wipe it from my system and start over. This wasn't happening for me as it said the software was damaged.
I did a bit of research online and found that I could install a file from Adobe called CleanUp, which seemed to work at first, so I checked into the Add/Remove Programs to see if it was still installed. It was in the list, so I thought Adobe CleanUp didn't work so I tried again to uninstall from Add/Remove programs - It just popped up a message saying the software may have been already uninstalled, would I like to remove it from the Add/Remove Programs list, so I selected Yes.
But after a final check to see if CS4 really had gone, I went into the directory I first installed CS4 to, the files were still there (note: I have a custom install folder other than C:\Program Files, I save software installations to D:\Programs as my HD is partitioned and I use Vista which takes up a lot of space and the C:\ drive hardly has any to begin with, I know I know, but it came like that from the manufacturer).
So now, I can't uninstall CS4, manually or through Add/Remove Programs. I even tried to install CS4 again to see if it would just write over the current installation, but that wasn't happening for me. If anyone has any ideas or advice what I can do, that'd be great. If there is absolutely no way I can remove it, would deleting the CS4 folder cause any problems, especially as I reverted back to CS2 (the only other CS version I have right now).
- DawnDesigner

It's a really mix to remove the CS4, in my personal opinion you probably have two options.
1. to try to install the suite again a remove it
2. to manually remove the folder where you install the software and through register remove from the list of add/remove software the unusable entrance for Adobe CS4
a) run the utility regedit.exe
b) if I'm not in a mistake it should be localized in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows\curren version\uninstall\
b.1) look arround the name that appear in the hives and just remove such which will be for the adobe CS4
Take a look also in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247501 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481
But first than all I recommend try to install again the suite a remove it.
by the way I hope your experience with Clean Script does not turn in a nightmare like in my case, which after running it, some links to re reference got damage as the help of MS office does not work anymore because xml files is not related to the right program or the starting of software like Windows Defender.
Good Luck

• I want to uninstall but it does not appear in Add/Remove Programs

I use Firefox 2.0.0.12. When I accessed today I was aked to install an update, now the thing won't even start up. Message is "firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. " I have been on your help site and am told to uninstall it, but it does not appear in Add/Remove Programs list. How can I uninstall it?

I found an uninstall file in the Mozilla firefox program files and successfully uninstalled the old version of firefox. I have now installed v3.6.13 and all seems OK. Does anyone anticipate any other problems?

• Windows 2000 prof. I noticed that I have both versions 3.6 and 6.02 installed when i checked the this in the add/remove program in the control panel. Can i remove the v3.6?

I have windows 2000 professional operating system version 5.0.2195 service pack 4 build 2195. I usually logged on as "user1". When i clicked on firefox it will try to install update but will return a message that update cannot be installed "please make sure that there are no other copies of firefox running on your computer". But there are no other copies of firefox running.
I checked the add/remove program in the control panel and found out that I have ver3.6.10 and ver6.0.2 installed.
Can i remove the ver3.6.10 using the uninstall button in the add/remove program?
Another problem is that I cannot logged in as "administrator".
When i logged in as "administrator" the computer just shut down and restart by itself while loading my desktop icons.

The normal method is simply
* Help -> Check for Updates
on Firefox (Window XP)
* see also Updating Firefox
You should be able to delete Firefox and remove it, from your Windows XP control panel although that may not be what you intend.
If you have doubts about compatibility stay with Firefox3.6 for now.
Some software extensions will currently have problems with firefox 4 (and that iircc may include some versions of silverlight )
Do NOT use any delete settings (or whatever it is worded) that will loose all your passwords and bookmarks.
BTW the safe mode in relation to Firefox is a totally different concept from Windows safe mode, but you probably have no need to use either of them.
* see also Safe Mode
On an ordinary upgrade Firefox will preserve your profile details which include bookmarks any passwords.
You should have no problems in installing Firefox 4. You should be able to install firefox 4, and retain any bookmarks etc that were used in firefox 3.6, but sometimes extensions may be incompatible.
