Add second HDD(SSD HDD). Which model?

I am going to buy HP Pavilion g7-2225sr (C0X05EA) Sparkling Black.
Is there place for second 2,5' HDD?
If no, what other modern model has the space for extra internal HDD?
Thanks.

Unfortunately this model doesn't have an extra HDD bay.
The HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 is the only one that I could find on HP's website in the Pavilion line that includes an extra hard drive bay.
Here is a link to that model:
http://shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-Pavilion/A3G47AV?HP-Pavilion-dv7t-700...
I hope that helps,
Kyle

  • Need to add a second hard drive. Which model?

    Hello,
I would like to add a second hard drive to my G3. My current 12 Gig ATA/133 hard drive is not sufficient anymore for my projects. I would like to choose a SATA hard drive and I need some help with the selection of a model. I am choosing SATA because I may eventually move it to a G5 computer later.
Could someone please suggest a hard drive model? I am looking for a fast drive and preferably one that is quiet too. I will be adding a SATA controller card (FirmTek SeriTek/1S2) available from www.firmtek.com/seritek in order to add this second drive.
My main programs I use are the Adobe Creative Suite Programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator and InDesign as well as Macromedia Dreamweaver. The average file size on my computer varies - I have many small files on my computer as well as some very large photoshop files. The OS, applications and data will all reside on this new drive and I will no longer use the 12 Gig drive at all.
I have read about some new hard drive features such as NCQ
Is NCQ a feature I should look for?
Most hard drives have a cache/buffer that is 8 MB or 16MB. Is 16 MB a good feature to look for or could 8MB be considered large enough for a buffer?
I will choose an RPM that is at least 7200. I think most hard drives today are 7200 anyways.
I am looking for a capacity of 160 GIGs or maybe 250 - depending on the cost.
Here are the ones I have considered already listed in order of my current preference:
    Maxtor MaXLine III
    DiamondMax 10
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.8
    Hitachi 7K250
    Deskstar T7K250
Does anyone have any recommendations for me either in this list or perhaps another model?
    Thank you,
    Mike
(I considered Maxtor DiamondMax 11 but it might me more than I need. It is the new line of Maxtors and I would rather pay less for a drive that is sufficient.)

    Hi Hatter:
OK here's my plan. I am sort of a chicken and like to do things in small and easy steps.
I have freed up 5 Gigs on the internal hard drive by moving some data off to an external drive, but leaving all my applications where they are.
That gets me out of trouble for now. Next I am buying the WD Caviar $70 640GB drive that you suggested and will put it in bay two.
When it's up and running I will clone the old drive over to my new drive, so that I can start the Mac from my new humungeous drive.
At this point I will install the dinky old drive in an FW case for safe keeping, I guess and buy another 650 gig drive for the now vacant bay.
Maybe some time down the line, I'll install the new bays, but I have a feeling that by that time APple will be offering a new Mac Gwhiz that I will be unable to refuse.
    Does this all sound feasible?
Thanks for all your help and I will keep you posted.

  • Qosmio G50-13R - Add second HDD

    Hello,
I want to upgrade my computer.
    Here are the numbers:
    Product Name: Qosmio G50-13R
    Product Version: PQG55E-05C04RFR
    Product Serial Number: 89063721H
I have the space for a second hard drive, but it is empty.
    No caddy, no connector.
But the Intel Rapid Storage detects an internal port 4 empty.
How to check what is is that port?
I did some research and I found a document on the material content of my computer. It is indicated that a connector on the motherboard exists for a second hard drive, here are some reference contained in the document:
    CN1920 2nd HDD SATA interface connector (20-pin)
Is the motherboard of my computer (see reference above) does have the CN1920 connector?
    How checked?
    Greetings.

There is a 2nd HDD bay because in the past the Qosmio G50 was released with different hardware parts and supported different hardware specifications and obviously the 2nd HDD bay does not contain the HDD connectors/cable.
The Intel ICH9M South Bridge supports 4 integrated serial ATA Host controllers, so the chipset should be able to handle 4 SATA devices (2x HDDs, 1x ODD, 1x eSATA).
I searched in the internet a little bit and found out that the motherboard supports two controllers/connectors.
The first HDD should be connected to the CN1900 (23pin) SATA connector and the 2nd HDD should be connected to CN1920 (20pin). The ODD is connected to CN1910 (13pin)
However, I think it will not be very easy to upgrade this unit with an 2nd HDD the whole unit must be disassembled and of course you would need compatible parts for such upgrade.

  • Adding second HDD to HP ENVY 17-j171sa Leap Motion TS SE Notebook PC

    Hi
Just recently upgraded to SSD as HDD1 in my notebook using ribbon cable etc from 'newmodeUS'
All stable and running well, so I installed a second HDD (which I know is working ok) but the notebook does not see it.
I even installed the original HDD as HDD2 but same problem
I can't find any relevant info on diagnosing this issue, but wondered if this model (leap motion) can actually have a second internal HDD
I can't see anything in the BIOS concerning this
One point to note is that I had to remove a maetal plate which was fitted in HDD2 drive bay - possible that it is not designe to accept?
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi Again
I received the new cable from NewmodeUS and they were just great - the new cable arrived within days to the UK.
I have now tried all possible permustations using both cables in either port and my findings are that:
The new cable from NewModeUS is definitely OK.
I have used both cables in both ports and HDD2 NEVER sees a disk
I currently have my new SSD connected to HDD1 with the new cable and the HP Original drive in HDD2 using the original cable
So there is nothing wrong with cables or disks.
I have looked in the BIOS Setup and can't find any way to configure to make HDD2 Sata port work
I have tried looking on WIndows 8.1 device Man etc and can't find anything that I can enable.
So I guess the question is - WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
I still wonder if the Leap Motion or some such thing causes any system level restriction?
    Thanks again
    Robert

  • SECOND hdd

    Hi,
is a possible to have two HDD in notebook HP350 g1 F7Y79EA#BCM. I want to add second hdd SSD  to make more faster my ntb.
    Thank you
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
I just bought a 350 g1 and opened the drive bay.
You cannot add a second notebook hard drive but you could add an mSata drive in the empty mSata slot and use it as storage or a cache.
You will not be able to boot from the mSata drive.
I would just remove the primary drive and replace it with a SSD.

  • Mac mini: OS can not "see" second HDD.

    Hello:
Through a series of unfortunate events I messed up the partition table of my Mac mini server. The OS can not "see" one of the 02 HDDs included in this mini server. Even trying to install the OS from the original DVD fails to see the second HDD, which used to have the boot partition and most of my data.
I boot up using the DVD into Disk Utilities, then I use the Terminal utility:
    diskutil list
    /dev/disk0 => 500 GB
    /dev/disk1 => 500 GB
    Please see screenshots here:
    http://www.nihpo.com/static/images/01.jpg
    http://www.nihpo.com/static/images/02.jpg
But here seems to be the problem:
    /dev/disk2 => 1.3 GB
And partition "2" in this disk has the label "Apple_HFS Mac OS X Base System"
Shouldn't partition disk0s2 have the label "Apple_HFS Mac OS X Base System" instead?
    Running OS X 10.8
Any suggestions on how to get the OS to "see" and boot from partition disk0s2 will be appreciated. Thanks.

And partition "2" in this disk has the label "Apple_HFS Mac OS X Base System"
Shouldn't partition disk0s2 have the label "Apple_HFS Mac OS X Base System" instead?
I'm not on 10.8 to be certain right now, but I don't think so...

  • Second HDD and HDAPM

Hi all. Help me please to solve the problem with HDAPM. Mac mini late 2011.
The first upgrade - replacing the hard drive. I`m installed WD 750Gb, 7200 rpm and HDAPM (http://mckinlay.net.nz/hdapm/)
utility has been installed. Everything was working correctly - the hard drive heads are not parked in idle time. No "marble drop" sound.
I was happy until the next upgrade.
The second upgrade - add second hdd WD 1Tb 5400 rpm. Now WD 750Gb is work place and WD 1Tb is store place.
But, hdapm utility working only with one HDD.
    Question:
How to correct edit hdapm.plist to work when system start for two internal HDD, and HDAPM do two drives for maximum apm performance?
Sory, but I do not know very well the syntax of XML.

    Hi
You should be able to do it with a second plist-file.

  • Dual Internal HDD in MacBook Pro? How? Which Models?

Alright well it's official; my logic board failed on my 2011 MBP, and now I need to replace it. I have been trying to research the mythical dual internal hard drive setup in the MacBook Pros but haven't found any specifics on which models can and which models can't.
The cheapest avenue which I can take is to simply adopt my older sister's laptop, but I wanted to figure out whether or not it's dual internal HDD capable.
Here are the specfications on that laptop:
And if this laptop is capable, can it handle 16GB RAM? I've heard conflicting anwers in regards to that, half stating that 16GB is possible but that Apple refuses to acknowledge the fact, and the other half stating to heed Apple's warning that 8GB is the max.
The second (much more expensive) route is that if laptop is indeed incapable, as I fear it might be, which models should I look at? Was this just a thing of the past that is no longer possible?
Thanks, and I appologize if this is a "dumb question"

    PocketFool wrote:
So the 2012 MBP is capable of supporting a 2nd internal HDD? Can you link to the OWC website that you mentioned?
    http://eshop.macsales.com/search/data+doubler
The MBP *can* accept the 16GB RAM but does this void any warranty since Apple technically says that you shouldn't/can't run that much?
Only on the RAM itself, not the rest of the MBP.  The RAM vendor guarantee will cover that.
However installing the data doubler will void the Apple  warranty.
    Ciao.
Re: RAM:  It is not that Apple prohibits the installation of 16 GB RAM, it is a case where they simply have not tested 16 GB of installed RAM.

  • Does Satellite P70-A-129 support the second HDD/SSD

I recently bought this model P70-A-129 from Greece, and i am wondering if it accepts a second HDD / SSD drive.
I opened the underneath cover and there is a second connector but i don't know if it is connected to the Main-board.
Can you assist me by telling me if this model can manage a second drive?
    Thanks

    Hi
    Its easy to test this
You can try to connect the HDD placed in the first HDD bay to the 2nd HDD controller in the 2nd HDD bay. In case the BIOS would recognize the HDD properly, the upgrade should be possible.
Please check also this Toshiba Satellite P70 / Qosmio X70 HDD replacement procedure.

It shows you step by step instruction how to remove the HDD

  • Itunes and all my movies have disappeared,i can no longer add to library from my external hdd which ive always used and can only add from the laptops own hard drive, any ideas what the issue could be?

ive recently updated, itunes and all my movies have disappeared,i can no longer add to library from my external hdd which ive always used and can only add from the laptops own hard drive, any ideas what the issue could be?if i transfer the movies from the external to the laptop they will add to the library without any problem so theres no issue with the laptop but when i go to add file in itunes i can path to the external but as soon as i select the file nothing happens, just goes back to itunes

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Satellite Pro A300 - Can I add a second HDD?

    Hi Forums,
I have a A300 PSAGDA-02000R and was wondering if is possible to add a second HDD to it. after I removed the panel to inspect where the second HDD goes I discovered that there was no connectors, so I was wondering if you can purchased or have Toshiba install a second set of connectors?
    any answer would be great
    thanks F1R3F1GHT

    > after I removed the panel to inspect where the second HDD goes I discovered that there was no connectors, so I was wondering if you can purchased or have Toshiba install a second set of connectors?
There are no connectors and this means that there is no second HDD controller on the motherboard and this means that second HDD is not possible.
This means also that its not possible to add any connectors or any controllers to the motherboard

    Hi
At the bottom of the unit you can find two HDD bays. Right?
But one of the bays does not contain any connectors? Right?
At the first look this might be a little bit strange but fact is that different Satellite P200/P200D models were available on the market with different motherboards.
Some would support a 2nd HDD but some units dont. But all models supports the same bottom covers and some people think that an 2nd HDD would be possible which is wrong.
