Add sender to address book no longer working

"Add sender to address book" no longer works. It flashes the menu bar as if it is working, however, when I go to the Address book, the new person is not there. This has been going on for a number of weeks.
Any ideas?

Keith,
Since you have confirmed that the maintenance scripts have been used, then you may benefit from the troubleshooting procedures listed in Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption.
I would also suspect .plist corruption with com.apple.mail.plist and/or com.apple.AddressBook.plist.

  • Hotmail address book no longer works

My hotmail address book no longer works. When I press "To" in the address bar, nothing comes up. If I press "reply" to respond to an email then again, nothing happens. I have to copy and paste the address. The only way I can find out an address is to go into the search box, bring up an old email and paste the address from it. This problem happened a while ago and seems to be after one of the automatic Firefox updates. Please can you advise? Thanks

  • TS3276 I cannot add contacts to the address book by clicking "add sender to address book."

In Apple Mail, OS 10.7.3, when I click on add sender to address book, nothing gets added. The address book doesn't change. When I try adding addresses via previous recipients, the button is active, but when I click, nothing is added to the address book. Any ideas for me?

Same thing happens to me. Running 10.9.2 on Macbook Air. Everything worked fine up until a few weeks ago then it stopped behaving.

  • Undo 'add sender to address book' ?

    Hi
I just accidentally added a whole load of people to my Address Book unintentionally
From Mail, I had a whole bunch of emails selected (100+) and chose 'Add sender to Address Book' by mistake (I intended just to add one of them).
So my question is this. How can I identify those contacts in my Address Book? 'Undo' was not available in Mail, and they don't appear to register in Address Book as 'last import'.
Is there a way of searching by date added?
    TIA
    James

There's no way to display contacts by date added. You could go to View > Last Import and this should display a new group called Last Import with details. not sure if 'Add to senders' are classed as an import tho.
If this doesn't work go to File > New Smart Group. In the pop up box for adding smart rules set the rule to Card has changed in 3 days and Ok this. You will now have a new group containing all the contacts that have been changed in the last 3 days which should include all the ones you are after. Just check there aren't any you need to keep before making any deletions.

  • The search feature in Address Book no longer works

I have over 2,400 contacts. For no apparent reason the search feature in my Apple Address Book no longer works. The  Address Book app has quit several times recently, again for no apparent reason. It is probably unrelated, but Preview has also been quitting. I have repaired permissions and used Disk Warrior 4.4 to rebuild the directory. Any thoughts?

That was a while back...after a little research to jog my memory, it had to do with iCloud. I found this on another page, and I think this is what I did to fix it:
"I had the same problem and fixed it a slightly different (and probably safer) way:
Backup your Address Book - File > Export > Address Book Archive
Go into preferences > iCloud - untick syncing for Contacts
When it asks you, tell it to delete the contacts from your local Mac (all your local address cards will be deleted but they will still be in iCloud)
All your cards should now be deleted from Address Book on your Mac
    Quit Address Book
Go into preferences > iCloud - tick syncing for Contacts (this will download your contacts into Address Book again)
Open Address Book and after a few secs you should see all your cards and the problem should be fixed"
The important part is to be sure to export your Address Book before doing anything. I think I ended up afater deleting all the cards and quitting address book, I reimported them from the backup I exported. Has been fine since. This is pretty safe as long as you have that exported file.

  • Add Sender to Address Book Category?

Does anyone know if you can set up a "rule" or something of that nature to the Add Sender to Address Book feature? I would like all of my contacts from my .me email to be saved in a preset category in my Address Book.

Take a look at Andreas Amann's Mailscripts. His add to address book script instructions:
"Select all messages you want to use for creating the mailing list (for creating a mailing list, you would choose all messages in a mailbox which contains all messages on a certain topic).
Run the script and you get a list with all addresses contained in the selected messages - mark all the addresses you want to add to the Address Book using the checkboxes.
From the popup menu, choose which group you want to update with the selected addresses or select "Create new Group..." and enter the name for the new group to be created.
The script checks whether an address is already present before adding it to the Address Book in order to avoid duplicate entries. If additional information is available for an entry already present in the Address Book (e.g., full name information for an entry which had prior been email-only), the entry will be updated."

  • Speech command "Add sender to address book"

    Hi,
This command 'add sender to address book' is recognized, but in the end, nothing new has been stored in my Address Book. What did I miss, or how could I fix it ?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Address Book no longer works

I have been using Lion for many months with few issues. But the Address Book application on my iMac started acting up two days ago and now will not open at all. Any ideas on the problem and more importantly, the solution.  BTW, I use iCloud extensively to sync the iMac, an iBook, an iPad and and iPhone. The Address Book app still works fine on the other three, just not the iMac.
    Thanks, Jim

Problem solved thanks to Shep's solution posted previously. (italics are my additions)
    Thanks Shep, wherever you are.
Are you using iCloud and syncing your Contacts? I had similar issue that sounds just like yours:
    search didn't work
selecting a contact on the left did not cause the right to update
double-click on a contact did pull up the correct information (but in a separate box)
and my contacts worked fine when navigated to iCloud in Safari (and on other devices)
If you are syncing with iCloud, try this.
Back up your Address Book. Close Address book.
Navigate to System Preferences > iCloud, and un-check Contacts.
You'll get a message about deleting/keeping contacts on your Mac. Select "Delete From Mac"
Check Contacts in the iCloud preference panel - which should then start the processing of downloading all you contacts from iCloud to your address book.
This worked for me -  hope it helps.
    Regards, Shep

  • Synch new contacts from Address Book no longer works.

My iphone will no longer synch new contacts in my Address Book on my Mac. It was working fine and then I loaded too much audio content and ran out of memory so I think it could not synch properly without memory available.  I've since deleted all my audio and have plenty of space yet new contacts in Address Book do not show up on my iPhone even though the synch process appears to complete. Any ideas?

I hope you are doing this over wifi, if you are not then you may have exceeded your monthly data limit, but I doubt that's the problem. All I can say is that Address Book will be getting refurbished soon, and according to Apple, it will be far more simple to transfer data between iOS and Macs.

  • How to set up 'add sender to address book'

I somehow lost all my contacts!! How can I add the sender of an email to my address book on a one-click basis. I think I have searched all avenues with no success. Have I missed something? Thanks

When you are viewing a message in a tab or message pane there is a star to the right of the sender. If the star is filled with color they are already in one of your address books. Clicking an empty star adds it to the address book. Clicking the filled star opens the contact edit dialog box to fill in more details.

  • Synching iphone/contacts & macbook/address book no longer works

I've had an iphone 3G and macbook pro for about 2 years and until now they've synched just fine. Today I cleaned up my address book on the mac (eliminated some duplicates, added, renamed, and deleted groups, updated individuals' information) and then synched my iphone with my mac using itunes. (I don't have a mobileme account.)
A few of the changes I made to address book (e.g., new contacts) were updated in contacts on the iphone, but most were not. It didn't update changes to existing contacts and the groups were not changed. Updates to ical and safari bookmarks were synched just fine.
Here are the things I've tried without success:
    1. In itunes info tab, under address book I selected "all contacts," deselected all other updates (ical, etc.) except address book, and then synched.
    2. Same as above, PLUS in the advanced section, under "replace information on this phone" I selected contacts. then I synched.
    3. Same as #1 above, except instead of "all contacts" I selected "selected groups" and checked all the groups listed, and then synched.
    4. I rebooted the macbook and repeated the steps above.
    5. I opened isync and selected "reset sync history." then I repeated steps 1 and 2 above.
I also tested making a change to a contact on the iphone to see if the change was made on the mac. It was not.
About 2 months ago I upgraded to snow leopard. It's possible this problem has been going on since then, and I just didn't notice until today when I made all the changes to address book.
I don't know what to try next. Please help.

status update -- I tried a lot of other things but finally solved the problem after I removed all the groups from mac address book. (thank-you to my son Ben)
FYI -- along the way I tried doing the reset sync history, which deleted all contacts from the iphone. I initially thought that was a good thing, until I discovered that nothing I tried after that would put the contacts back on the iphone. Next I restored factory settings on the iphone and set up as a new user, but that didn't work either. Or maybe it did; maybe deleting the groups wouldn't have solved the problem if I hadn't deleted all contacts and reset the iphone first.

  • Address Book no longer works after installing Lion on MAC Book Air.

Ive checked my updates and it is not one of them. I am new to MAC and I am clueless as to what to do. Any suggestions?

By when you write "click on the address book", I'll presume you mean you click on the Address Book icon in the Dock.  Did you ever move around things in the Applications folder?  In general, it's not a good idea to move Apple's applications from their normal locations.
To verify this, click-and-hold on the Address Book icon, then when the pop-up menu appears, roll to "Options", then to "Show in Finder".  I'll guess that the folder of the resulting window is not of the Applications folder.
To fix the problem in the short run, drag the Address Book icon out of the Dock.  Then open the Applications folder, find Address Book, and drag it to the Doc.  Eventually you'll want to delete the old applications, but in Lion that's harder to do than previously.

  • PlayBook local calendar and address book no longer works

I took delivery of a brand new BBC Bold 9900 today. The setup went very well and all seems to be working fine, including the bridge. I am registered with Gmail and have also used my Gmail address and password as a BB registration ID. My PlayBook calendar and contacts worked fine before as I had set it all up with my Torch 9800. Does anyone have any ideas?
     Cheers

  • Mail not adding Sender to Address Book

When I have a message from someone I want added to my address book, I hit the menu button to Add Sender to Address Book, yet nothing at all happens, and I end up having to enter all the info manually. Any ideas as to why this occurs, or how to get it working?

The shift, command, Y didn't work, and when I opened the Console app, and tried the menu command, it didn't work, and I didn't see anything showing up on the Console, relative to Mail.
What I did see on the Console was endless lines like this:
MacKeeper Helper.app/Contents/MacOS/MacKeeper Helper", ...): No such file or directory
    Nov 14 11:10:04 stevens-computer com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[106] (com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper[40111]): Exited with exit code: 1
    Nov 14 11:10:04 stevens-computer com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[106] (com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
Do you have any idea why it keeps doing this, despite my not having MacKeeper on my computer? Could there be a hidden file I can't find?  And do you know what "Throttling respawn" means?

  • Apple Mail: How do I add contacts to address book?

In the Apple Mail program, there is an option to add sender to address book. But when I do that, it just adds the sender to my address book, oftentimes without a name associated to the contact. So that contact could easily get lost.
I'd like to be able to add a sender from Apple Mail, then, at a later point, go to the address book and review who I've added, and edit their information.
Is there a way to add the sender to the address book, and have that contact added to a default folder within address book. That way I could later go back and review a bunch of contacts I've added at the same time. Thanks.

Adding an address to Address Book opens Address Book so that you can edit the card before saving it.  Is that not happening for you, or is that happening but you want to ignore it until you're ready to go add other information?
If the latter, you could always create a smart group in Address Book with the criteria "Name" "is not set".  Then just go in now and then and add names to everything in that group.  Of course, the problem with this technique is you may have to go back and find that address in Mail and refresh your memory as to who it belongs to.  It would probably be quicker, overall, to just add the name at the time you're adding the contact.
