Add Sequence Value to table

Hello, I have a table that uses a sequence as a primary key. My question is, how do you add the NEXTVAL to a row when you are in the data section of that table. I tried adding mysequence.nextval, but when I commit the row, it takes it as a literal string.
Thanks, sck10

As said in following threads, you can't:

Sequence: possible to use sequence in "Data" tab

  • Add numeric value to Table Column

    Hello,
    my problem:
    I have a VO with a numeric attribute (Sal). This VO is shows in a table in a JSF Page.
    I need to add to the column value a numeric value.
    I try with #{row.bindings.Sal.attributeValue*2} or #{row.Sal+2} or #{row.Sal.inputValue+2} But I get an error.
    Can someone help me ?
    Thank You
    JDev 11.1.3

    Hi,
    an option would be to use a transient attribute in the VO to compute the maths or to populate the column field from a managed bean. You can point the column field to a managed bean property (say sumSal). In this method getSumSal() you
    1. Use ELContext, ValueExpression, and ExpressionFactory to resolve the #{row} reference (you can cast it to oracle.jbo.domain.Row
    2. call row.get("attribute_name") to access the field value
    3. Perform the computation and return the value to display in the table
    Note that using a transient attribute may be easier to achieve and easier to reuse in other usages of the VO. However, you have to options

  • Add ComboBox Value to Table

    Hi,
    I have a problem. I created table, UDO and set form.objecttype with UDO. On the form I have some EditText items and ComboBox. After Add values from EditText items are insert into table, but ComboBox value not. I bind ComboBox with Column in a table. is there anything else what must be done with it?
    Regards,
    Hmg

    I solved the problem. Data didn't update because of matrix that was binded to same table. But anyone know why is it happenig? When there are edittext items and a matrix on the form and they are binded to same table and columns, why Update don't work?

    Hi Gyan,
    Below is the code I'm using in PFR.
    OAAdvancedTableBean tableBean = (OAAdvancedTableBean)webBean;
    OADBTransaction Tr=amobj.getOADBTransaction();
    if ( (tableBean.getName().equals(pageContext.getParameter(SOURCE_PARAM)))
    && ADD_ROWS_EVENT.equals(pageContext.getParameter(EVENT_PARAM)))
    System.out.println("in if clause");
    Number lineNumber = Tr.getSequenceValue("paymentLineSequence");
    testLineEOViewImpl vobj = amobj.gettestLineEOView1();
    vobj.getCurrentRow().setAttribute("SundryRequestLineNumber",lineNumber);
    When i click on Add Another Row button its throwing an exception as below.

  • Insert multiple rows in on table and retreive sequence values

    Hello,
    I'm searching a way to insert several rows in a table that needs a sequence and retreive its.
    For one row i use ExecuteScalar method with the following SQL is :
    INSERT INTO MY_TABLE(MY_PK)
    VALUES(SEQ_MY_TABLE.NEXTVAL) RETURNING MY_PK INTO :MY_PARAMETER
    The aim is to insert several rows at one time. Currently I execute this SQL :
    INSERT INTO MY_TABLE(MY_PK, MY_VALUE)
    SELECT SEQ_MY_TABLE.NEXTVAL, MY_VALUE
    FROM (
    SELECT 0 MY_VALUE FROM DUAL UNION ALL
    SELECT 1 MY_VALUE FROM DUAL
    This query works well but i'm wondering how to retreive all sequence values generated by this query.
    Is it possible and how ?
    Thank you.
    Sebastien

    I tried this :
    string sql = "INSERT INTO MY_TABLE(MY_PK, MY_VALUE) " +
    "SELECT SEQ_MY_TABLE.NEXTVAL MY_PK, MY_VALUE FROM ( " +
    "SELECT 0 MY_VALUE UNION ALL " +
    "SELECT 1 MY_VALUE) " +
    "RETURNING MY_PK BULL COLLECT INTO : RETURN_IDS";
    using(var manager = myFactory.CreateDbManager()) // Initializes the connection and encapsulates ADO objects
    manager.SetCommand(sql);
    var cmd = (OracleCommand)manager.Command;
    cmd.ArrayBindCount = 2;
    var p = new OracleParameter();
    p.DbType = DbType.Int64;
    p.ParameterName = "RETURN_IDS";
    p.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output;
    p.CollectionType = OracleCollectionType.PLSQLAssociativeArray;
    p.Size = 2*sizeof (long);
    cmd.Parameters.Add(p);
    cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
    var result = (Oracle.DataAccess.Types.OracleDecimal[])p.Value;
    But I have an error ORA-00933 that indicates that the query is wrong at "RETURNING MY_PK".

  • Add Sequence to an existing table

    How can I add a Sequence to an existing table in a new field called the User_Id? I'm using Oracle SQL Developer version 3.0.04, and it provides an option to create a sequence, which I did, called Log_Seq. So I need to put this sequence in the table Final_Log under a column named User_Id. I'm stuck at this part. I would appreciate any help I can get!

    You don't "add" a sequence to an existing table at least in existing Oracle versions. A database sequence is an database object that application code must manage with specific SQL data manipulation language (DML) statements. You need to modify application code to add or modify SQL statements.
    See example from Admin. Guide http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/views002.htm#ADMIN11796 .

  • How to add field value to the standard table

    Hi,
    How to add field value to the standard table?
    for example:
    when we go to TCODE SE16-> VBAK table -> on the selection screen if we press F4 against VBTYP we get all the available values for that field. How to add a new document Category value to this field so that it shows up in F4 help for that field.

    Hi Asif,
    I don't think it is possible and feasible for adding new field value to the field VBTYP because it is not possible through SPRO.
    If u see the domain of this field VBTYP we have fixed values provided by SAP. There is no value table for this. If u have value table then it will be updated through SPRO. But still if u really want to add some value u can do that by getting access key and add the value in the fixed values of the domain. But of no use other than simply displaying in F4. Because for what ever value u created here there will be no documents in VBAK or any table using this domain.
    Hope this is clear for u.
    Thanks,
    Vinod.

  • Unable to save Sequence value to Database

    Hi,
    I am trying to pupulate a sequence value so that I can use it as primary key along with the combination of other columns later. My problem is that the sequence value is getting populated on the page with the right value, But is not getting saved to the database. The Column is there in the VO. The column is blank on the table. When I print it(System.out.println("Seq=" + xSeq.getText(pageContext));), the value is null. Can anyone please advice what I am doing wrong OR if I am missing anything here.
    Thanks

    Hi Tapash,
    Thanks for all of you guys(Tapash/Sumit/user550094) help. The sequence is working and also populating the values in the table when I do not have any validation checks imposed on it.
    If I add any validations as mentioned in the exercise for create page where it checks if the sequence can be updated while null and so on... and throws appropriate exception. I get error. That is the code that I mentioned above.
    Here is the validation code for EOImpl:
    As mentioned below in order for the code to compile and work I had to comment the "throw new OAAttrvalException". If I uncomment the
    "throw new OAAttrvalException" part, it gives me the following error while compiling:
    "Error(796,13): method getPrimarykey not found in class lac.oracle.apps.lac.jobperf.schema.server.jobperfEOImpl"
    public void setSeq(Number value)
    // Because of the declaritive validation that you specified for this attribute,
    // BC4J validates that this can be updated only on a new line, and that this,
    // mandatory attribute cannot be null. This code adds the additional check
    // of only allowing an update if the value is null to prevent changes while

    // to use findByPrimaryKey() because you're unlikely to get a match, and
    // and are therefore unlikely to pull a bunch of large objects into memory.
    // Note that findByPrimaryKey() is guaranteed to check all employees.
    // First it checks the entity cache, then it checks the database.
    OADBTransaction transaction = getOADBTransaction();

    // Note that this is the point at which the value is actually set on the EO cache
    // (during the scope of setAttributeInternal processing). If you don't make this

    // Also, any declarative validation that you define for this attribute is executed
    // within this method.

    I am sorry if I have confused you. I really did not mean to do it.

  • How to add sequence to ddl suuport

    Hi Friends
    The goldengate is not replicating the sequences. I saw the reference guide and it says adding the sequence parameter with the sequence name in the extract and replicat parameter would work.
    It want to make sure whether i need to do something else on top of it or just adding sequence parameter would work?
    Thank you

    Hi
    Thanks for replying.
    We are doing a migration from oracle 10.2.0.4 to oracle 11.2.0.3 and we configured oracle goldengate setup (ogg v11.2.1.0.1). We were having duplication error and so the oracle support suggested us to disable the triggers and redo the initial load. We did that and the issue was solved. Now after doing the migration our application is now pointing to target database(11.2.0.3), but when are starting jobs on our new database we are getting constrain violation errors and later we figured out that it is due to the sequence.
    Every single “IMAGE” table in Oracle has an extra column called xxx_ID. This column is used to store a unique number that mimics an IMAGE record number. This is needed in IMAGE/Transport to allow for record manipulation and access using record numbers instead of key values or following chains, something that is done in the application.
    This xxxxxx_id is populated automatically by Oracle using an insert trigger that gets a unique value from a sequence. There is a sequence for each of the 1000 or so IMAGE tables in Oracle. When we tried to add a row in xxxx table, we got a unique constraint violation. The only column that has a unique constraint is xxxx_ID.
    We checked the sequence xxxxxxx_SEQ and its next number is 4828930. I checked the table looking for the maximum value for xxxxx_ID and it is 4831661. It appears that the sequence is about 5000 records short of where it should be.
    My understanding is that since the triggers where disabled and so the sequence values did not change and stayed at there original values. On top of it the sequence were not in the extract and replicat list.
    I think if I add sequence to ddl support then no matter whether the triggers are enabled or disabled the sequence should be in sync with the source database sequence.
    If not then we have to rebuild the sequences on target by taking script from source database before pointing the application to target database.
    Thank you

  • Using a single sequence value over multiple scripts (in a variable?)

    Hi all...
    I'm writing a number of scripts that insert rows into tables.
    To better explain my point, I'll paste a simple breakdown of the scripts here as that will be easier to understand...
    Script 1:
    INSERT INTO WORKGROUP_DEPARTMENTS(ID, DEPT_NAME, DEPT_TYPE)
    VALUES (SEQ_WGDPT.NEXTVAL, 'Staff', 3);
    Script 2:
    INSERT INTO WORKGROUP_SECTIONS(ID, SECT_NAME, WGDPT_ID)
    VALUES (SEQ_WGSEC.NEXTVAL, 'Staff 1',
    (SELECT ID FROM WORKGROUP_DEPARTMENTS
    WHERE DEPT_NAME = 'Staff'
    AND DEPT_TYPE = '3')
    Script 3:
    INSERT INTO WORKGROUPS(NAME, UNIT_TYPE, WGSEC_ID)
    VALUES ('Staff Room', 3,
    (SELECT ID FROM WORKGROUP_SECTIONS
    WHERE SECT_NAME = 'Staff 1')
    As you can see, in scripts 1 and 2 a new value is produced from a sequence (SEQ_WGDPT & SEQ_WGSEC respectively). Then, in scripts 2 & 3 (respectively) these values are inserted into another table.
    What I'm trying to figure out is: can I do the same thing here without having to include the horrible SELECT statements in scripts 2 & 3 in order to find the ID, which was produced by the sequence in the previous script?
    Unfortunately they do have to be separate scripts, and as such I can't call Sequence.CurrVal from a different script as other users may have used the sequence since it was used initially in the previous script. I could call it from the original calling script, and save it intop a variable, but I have no idea how to - even if it is the right idea!
    I tried to insert the sequence value into a variable a la PL/SQL so that I could call this variable from the next script, but failed miserably as I'm rubbish!
    Any help would be great. Thanks.

    You can use PL/SQL, for example:
    SQL> desc t
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    ID                                                 NUMBER
    NAME                                               VARCHAR2(10)
    SQL> desc t1
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    ID                                                 NUMBER
    NAME                                               VARCHAR2(10)
    ID1                                                NUMBER
    SQL> desc t2
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    ID                                                 NUMBER
    NAME                                               VARCHAR2(10)
    ID2                                                NUMBER
    SQL> create sequence seq_1;
    Sequence created.
    SQL> declare
      2   prev_id number;
      3  begin
      4   insert into t values(seq_1.nextval,'A')
      5   returning id into prev_id;
      6   insert into t1 values(seq_1.nextval,'B',prev_id)
      7   returning id into prev_id;
      8   insert into t2 values(seq_1.nextval,'C',prev_id);
      9  end;
    10  /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> select * from t;
            ID NAME
             1 A
    SQL> select * from t1;
            ID NAME              ID1
             2 B                   1
    SQL> select * from t2;
            ID NAME              ID2
             3 C                   2

  • Commit not allowed in Trigger  then how to store the values in table

    Hi,
    Database trigger not allowed to COMMIT in it (directly) or in procedure which is calling from the Trigger. it gives error.
    so my question is:-
    1)How Database internally store the INSERT AND UPDATE value in table which is written in procedure without COMMIT?
    2) Is it necessary to write COMMIT in procedure using PRAGAMA AUTONOMOUS TRANSACTION to store inserted or updated value in table?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    A trigger is designed to be a part of a transaction, not it's end.
    It is like following these steps (not really accurate, but should give an idea):
    1. programA issues INSERT statement on tableA
    2. 'control' goes over to the database
    3. constraint checks happen
    4. the associated triggers on tableA do their work (e.g. fetching a sequence value for a primary key)
    5. 'control' goes back to programA
    6. programA decides if a commit (no error occurred) or a rollback (error case) has to be issued.
    Did this help? Probably not, I'm not happy with what I wrote, but anyway... :)

  • How to add a value set in a custom form in query_find screen in R12 please

    Hello,I need to add a value set fileld found in the fnd_flex_value_set table in a query find screen . How do I proceed please ?
    Do I create a record group followed by a 'LOV' ?
    Thanks.

    Hi;
    For your issue i suggest close your thread here as changing thread status to answered and move it to Forum Home » Application Development in PL/SQL » Forms which you can get more quick response

    you must (ab)use EXECUTE IMMEDIATE
