Add Social Media or "Share" buttons to my blog

I would like to add share buttons (facebook, twtiter) to my blog, right under the title and date of each article. Where can I add this? Is there a tuturial available for this?

I use AddThis for social sharing on blog post. I insert their code in Layouts > Blog > Post. It depends on your code as to where you insert the code to show below the title.

  • Please add a "link" or "share" button to replies / answers for easier referencing and linking.

    Currently, the only ways to link to a specific reply or answer are:
    Hunt through the poster's activity page and look for the link to the post in question, or
    Inspect the post's HTML, extract the ID from the enclosing <li> tag, then manually construct the URL by adding it as an anchor to the top level URL.
    Example: https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/4fb9d481-741f-49ea-9059-ff1757ead511#b7e0c275-0645-4c3b-a314-480cb89ef04c was

    These both stink. A forum, especially one as full of information and as frequently cited as this one, really ought to have an easier way to link to specific replies.
    Please add a "link" or "share" button (or something similar) that generates a URL that links directly to the post. Perhaps it could go down next to the action links (reply, quote, etc) or over near the vote button.
    If one exists, I apologize but I have not been able to find it (and at least one moderator - the one who replied in the example link I just posted - is also unaware of it). This forum has been around long enough that I'm a bit surprised it does not have
    this yet.

    Sorry,  not possible.
    I want to correct myself. There is an old "hack" that still seems to work, which is to create a link to a file, but instead of pointing it to a file you point it to a folder. But Acrobat only lets you select a folder when you create such a link, so how to do it? Create a Word document with such a hyperlink and then use the PDFMaker plugin to convert the file to a PDF. This side-steps the Acrobat limitation and gives you a link to a folder, which when clicked will open it in Windows Explorer.
    As I said, it's a bit of a hack and it's possible it will stop working if Adobe ever decides to block it, so use it with care.

    If I wanted a signature with a logo, I'd create an HTML document containing text and an embedded image. Adding, for example, facebook and twitter icons would be done in just the same way, by embedding their icons into the same HTML signature document.
    What's stopping you just adding more graphics?

    It doesn't appear so simple Tobi. The image is pulled from Facebook's servers and the button in itself is an altogether different HTML page from Facebook shown on your site within an iFrame.

  • How can I add social media linked icons to my mac mail signature in osx mountain lion?

    I've added png files to my signature and then hit command k and added a website to "link" each, however when i send the message the icons are there, but they don't "link", as in I can click on them and the png file just bounces back up.
    I am sure that Apple Mail has a way to do this, as every other carrier seems to have figured this out!

    I need to add a simple Facebook share button in the row of social share buttons at the bottom of the page http://www.ottawapatentagency.com  I just need a simple button, I don't need any counts, nor any analytics. I tried to insert the code from the Facebook developers pages and follow the instructions, but I can't do it.
    I am neither a Facebook developer nor a programmer, for that matter, help!

    How to add the Social Network share buttons like Facebook and Twitter (that work!) to share INDIVIDUAL post on the same web address in Dreamweaver? I have searched on google and youtube tutorials, but most of them are "Blogger" and  "Wordpress" users.. The only Dreamweaver tutorial is the one that share THE WHOLE page (not individual post on a page). There is Facebook Integration on Dreamweaver (29 Dollar download from Adobe) but so far no review about it so  I don't want to spend money for something I don't know.  There is also Sharrre but they say there is a bug. It seems like everyone out there use these buttons but I start to get crazy since it seems easy but it's actually complicated to get the html or js script to paste on! Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

    Here is my test site. I have made at least 3 articles (Fashion, Sport, and Art) with thumbnail images on it.

    On each article I add the share buttons from "AddThis".
    However, if I want to ONLY share the "Sport article" on Facebook by clicking share-->Facebook, then the feed is scrambling my images on other articles too and it eventually just share the whole page instead of one particular article.
    It is now fine since I only build 3 articles, but as you see when the page is getting long with at least 20 articles it will not be ok.
    I don't want to make individual page for each article either, since they are just short article each, and I intend to use this page as a welcome page to update the latest activity every half year.
    I have seen many bloggers or pages where even if they have many article on ONE page, they are able to share one particular article to Facebook, and when we click (via Facebook) it will redirect us to exactly that particular article even if the article is on the bottom of the page, and not just bring me to the top of the page only and have to search by myself by scrolling to the bottom of the page to see the article.
    Infact, Bloggers and Wordpress seems to have the tool for that so that we can just click and add. I am not a Blogger or Wordpress users but I saw youtube tutorials on that.
    I have heard about Dreamweaver behavior, and does this will help to achieve what I want (sorry I'm a beginner)? I also heard about meta tags but I don't know how and where to get them to paste to my html source code.
    I have found several sites where the person show how to do this, but when I tried it didn't work, and in fact some other discussions about this are never solved.

    You can link to individual pages in the pdf, just not individual articles/sections. This would help you add a link to a specific page on a social media site and share that link, rather than doing it through the pdf itself.

  • Custom social media buttons

    I am working on a site that will have twitter and facebook buttons.
    I tried the buttons provided by twitter and facebook: For twitter the "tweet" button and for facebook the "like" and "send" button as you generate on their sites.
    There is a lot not to like about this: You don't control the looks (they are loaded through a script), the buttons facebook and twitter are different in size, they come with a ton of code that is loaded from the facebook servers and thus seem to slow down loadtimes.
    The facebook button is quite wide and does not go well with my fluid design.
    I would like to replace them with my own.
    The fb and twitter scripts also send info, like the page you come from, username etc, so that users can quickly send that page to their followers.
    The company that the site is for does not have a facebook page or twitteraccount.
    We don't want a counter with the buttons.
    So how can I have my own buttons and still have (some) of the functionality that the FB and Twitter buttons offer?

    don't understand why you are adding buttons to a web page whose company does not have social media accounts for those buttons to link to?
    Actually is not really a real "company" it is more like a collaboration of people with an idea that won a price with that.
    Visitors cab join in if they want.
    So it is a "social" thing, but all the info will be on the site.
    The people that will visit the site are typical users of twitter and facebook (and Linkedin) and will most likely use that to share the site.
    In any case, you can design any button you like and change the URL to link directly to the facebook or twitter page. It does not need to have the functionality but you mention you want to keep some of that functionality - what parts exactly?
    For instance that the URL of the page that you want to share is sent.
    And I set up the site with Open Graph, so you can "send" the page complte with a description, url and small picture.
    I must add that this whole social media thing is unknown territory for me, I am reading up on it right now.
    So perhaps I should rephrase my question:
    Do you or did you implement social media buttons in the website you built and if yes, how did you do that and why?

  • Social media button... i'm confused?

    This might be stupid question time but when you're building your site and you add a social widget from the Muse library that widget is linked to the temporary URL? When we do actually push our sites live to a proper domain, I assume that all these widgets we automatically switch over to the new page URL... right?
    The one I am most confused about is the Facebook comments widget... I have the 'current page' check box marks at the moment.

    It's not that I have issues with any of them at the moment. It's just not having ever actually taken a site 'live' I just wanted to know what will happen to the widgets when I do... if that makes sense?
    For example, I have several Twitter 'tweet' buttons set to 'current page'... will that current page URL change to its new page URL when I actually send the site 'live' in a few days or will I have to go back into each one and manually update the new URL?
    The Facebook comments widget... same question as above?
    All together I have over 100 social media widgets throughout the site (many on product pages and blog pages) so it's important I know now.

    Uh-oh, you might have installed an unofficial bundle containing the update. If your download history indicates the source, can you report it here?
    Your "More system details" shows the MySearchDial extension. I recommend removing that, either from the Add-ons page (if possible) or from the Windows Control Panel.
    Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then find MySearchDial and remove it (or at least disable it).
    If necessary, open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and click the "Installed on" column heading to bring recent infections, er, additions, to the top.
    Any luck cleaning it up?
