Hi,
These HP How-to articles will show you how to install hard drives.
Your PC is provisioned for two hard drives so you should be able to use the empty bay in the hard drive cage.
You will need a 3.5" to 2.5" hard drive adapter and a SATA data cable.
The Samsung EVO 250GB is a really fast performer. I am using three of them.
Be sure to create a set of the HP recovery disks.
Backup your data.
Temporarily disconnect the hard drive.
Install the SSD and cable the SSD to the SATA port that was used by the hard drive.
Now boot up the HP recovery media and reload the system to the SSD.
At some point after you have the SSD and system stable, then reconnect the hard drive to an empty SATA port. You can now use the old hard drive for an emergency boot drive and/or for bulk data storage.

What did you use to clone the disks? And to be clear, you now have the SSD in the primary slot and the hdd in the second slot? Try removing the HDD completely and see if it will boot just off the SSD. The HDD should not be in the boot order if it is in the second bay.
The SSD is a full sized 2.5 inch SATA form factor, not an mSATA mSSD, right?

HOW TO ADD SSD to MacBook

I read in numerous forums and never came up with a real answer if it is possible to add a SSD (solid state drive) drive to your MacBook.
My test model was a new aluminum MacBook 2.4 already updated to 4 gigs from OWC for $80 delivered. (which I might say has worked flawless for over 7 weeks now)
To start I had to determine what type of drive I had and what type I needed.
The various types in the macbook appear to be PSATA, SATA, and SATA II.
My macbook uses SATA, however SATA II is backward capable and works fine in 10.6.
I then shopped for a SSD and found a 120 gb drive which is actually a 128 with 120 usable for only $199 shipped from NewEgg.

I paid 199 shipped and the price rises and falls on demand.
After 3 days the drive arrived and I then called my local Mac Genius, who has worked for Apple for over 20 years on instructions on how to make everything work.
I connected the bare drive to my computer via a standard mini usb to usb cable.
This drive also has a mini built in usb connector on it.
The drive instantly showed up on the desktop.
Next I opened Apple Disk Utility and highlighted the drive (upper not lower ID)
I then under the partition set it for 1 partition and also set it for "Guid partition table"
This step is important as the PC environment need to see it under this
I set the type of formatting as "Mac os Journalied and let the drive format.
Once this was done I went to Bombich.com and downloaded carbon copy cloner
Once on the desktop I selected the Mac hd as my source and the SSd as my target drive
46 minutes later I had a perfect clone of my original with all serial numbers and programs.
I now turned off my machine flipped it over removed the rear battery cover and the battery from the macbook
With a small phillips screwdriver I removed the screw above the hard drive which permits a little rubber bar to be removed.
I then pulled on the plastic tab on the drive and the original pulled out and the connector simply pulls off.
I then with a small torx screwdriver removed the 4 torx screws from the side of the original drive and installed them on the SSD drive.
I attached the connector to the drive which was a perfect fit and installed the drive back into the computer.
Installed the rubber bar retaining unit with phillips screw, battery in once lever is in open position and replaced the lid.
Note-lever must be in open position for battery to go in and out. It appears lever also secures battery and not just battery cover.
Once everything finished and double checked I started the computer which worked flawless
Only thing I noted was that I had to re-enter my wireless extreme name and password in order for it to work otherwise all other passwords were there.
Less then 24 hours of use it is fast quiet and extremely cool.
Power consumption has gone down from .60 amps @ 5 volts to .35 amps @ 5 volts a power savings of .25 amps or 1.25 watts per hour.
Given that apple claims a 5 hour run time for this 4 amp battery at 12 volts or 48 total watts this means that the computer uses approximately 9.6 watts per hour.
With this drive saving 7.5 watts over the 5 hours (1.25 x 5 hours)or now using only 8.35 watts per hour with this hard drive you should now get about 45 minutes more run time.
Of course this is all speculative and does not take into account energy saved, by not running the fan more often as the hard drive barely registers any heat.
In comparison my hard drive temperature was 108-f, and base was about the same, with cpu running around 120-f.
Now with the new hard drive the temp is 32-f for the hard drive, with the base running about 86-f, and the cpu at around 108-f.
The temperature for the HD appears to be too low to either be measured or register as 32-f would be freezing which is impossible in my household which hovers around 72-f.
On a scale of 1-10 research was about a 10 formatting and cloning the drive about a 5 and for switching the drives about a 2, and only a 2 because you had to change from a phillips to a torx screwdriver.
I hope this helps anyone else who is considering this upgrade to a 128 gb for less then $200.

Your ssd does not have a temp sensor so the software sets it to the baseline which is 32.

Hi guys I'd want eventually add a new ssd to my mac mini late 2012 (base version) and can i ask apple to do that paying their service or i have to do it myself?
can i bring an ssd to an apple store (i was going to buy a samsung 840 evo 500 gb ssd)and ask them to install it into my mac mini?and eventually the cost for that?

Looking to add ssd to new dv7 7000

I recently ordered a dv7 7000 and i am wanting to make the 1tb hdd that comes with it the secondary hdd and add an ssd as the boot drive.
I have never had or installed an ssd drive and i am wondering what extra items i am going to need other than buying the ssd itself. I assume there is a specific wire/connector i am going to need but i have been unable to find anything in my searches.
Any suggestions or advice anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated .

If your GF is out of contract, I would just add a line to my account and select a family plan and get her a phone and port her number over. (If she still wants it).
If she is NOT out of contract and is with VZW, you can do an Assumption of Liabilty to bring her into your account and then you can choose a family plan and wait to get new phones. (This does not add time to either contract)

In addition to Mike's response, the iMac must have the memory added in matched pairs. That is, two side-by-side slots have to have the same size ram modules, The over-under slots do not have to match in size but you cannot leave a slot empty. You must have either two slots filled or four slots filled.
iMacs are even more picky than other Macs about their ram...you absolutely must use the correct speed ram in all four slots.

What you need is an HDD bracket for a 2.5 HDD as posted by Dr.Lamp
Such part can be purchased from different computer dealers also from an Toshiba authorized service partner available in your country.
Ask or search simple for 2.5 SATA HDD bracket
By the way: 2nd HDD is possible ONLY if the 2nd HDD slot would contain the HDD connector

Can we have your full model? There is a 15-J171nr and sa and they are not the same. It is important to know if you have the mSSD accelerator 24 gig drive. That will impact the instructions, but the best SSD drive to get is a Samsung 840 Evo. Your budget is going to determine the size but even a 512 gig is pretty affordable, compared to not too long ago. Here is the Manual:

Hi,
Yes, you can clone your current HDD to your new SSD, install new SSD on your machine and run from there. Please note:
(a) SSD normally smaller (2.5" vs 3.5") therefore you need a mouting kit for it, such as one of the following ones:

Adapter to add SSD to T420s ultrabay

I want to add a 128-180 GB SSD to my T420s ultrabay, but I'm having trouble confirming compatibility of the various options. Is 43N3412 the right SATA adapter? I'm planning on using it with 0A65630 "ThinkPad 180GB SATA 6.0Gb/s 7mm Solid State Drive" (unless someone has a suggestion for a better price/value option).

There are two versions of the Ultrabay adapter, one 9.5mm thick (43N3412) and the other 12.7mm thick (0A65623.)
I don't know for sure about the T420s but I suspect it has a 9.5mm opening like my T430s. I bought this clone adapter on eBay for about $10, shipping included. It fits perfectly and works just fine.
In my case I put the SSD into the standard HDD bay and put the HDD that originally came with the T430s into the adapter. That way when I'm travelling I can easily pull out the HDD in the adapter so that it's not vulnerable to physical shocks, etc.

Hello all,
tomorrow I'm going to replace my current MSI GX660R for a GT60 2PE 3K edition (:D). I was just wondering, the system has 1TB HDD + 128 GB SSD. I want to expand the SSD, but I was wondering which SSD cards I can put into the GT60? I'm a bit of a newbe on this subject. I thought i read somewhere that I can expand it to a maximum of 3x 128 GB. And that it has to be mSATA because of the Super RAID 2 module. Is that correct?
To summarize my questions;
* Can it only be 128 GB SSD's or can it also be larger ones?
* Does it have to be mSATA because of the Super RAID 2 module?
* Do all SSD's have to be the same size (since there is already a 128 GB one installed)?
* What brands are good options (I heard Samsung and Crucial are good)?
* Do I also have to check for certain read/write speeds?

I know some people are using three 256GB SSDs.
Super RAID 2 is designed for using mSATA SSDs.
It's recommended to have the same size SSDs in order to have better performance.
Plextor or Toshiba is also good options.
If you already have one 128 GB SSD inside, I would suggest you to add the same brand with the same model SSD to have a better perofrmance and avoid the compatibility issue on SSD.

Yes it is possible. The second drive bay is only for storage. You cannot boot from it. There is no need to put an SSD in there. A regular mechanical drive will be fine.
You will need a caddy for the second drive. On the dv7-1000 series the SATA drives plug straight into the connectors on the motherboard. There is no need for a cable in other words but you do need a caddy to hold the drive in securely.

I have had very good luck with the Samsung 840 SSD. Here is a 250 gig for $180...not a bad deal.

If all your data will fit easily on 250 gigs the best way to do the SSD install is to just clone the old drive to the new. I personally use Acronis True Image Home for this. You do not even need any extra hardware. Just put the two drives in and boot from the Acronis disk and it will see both drives in the computer. You can clone the old drive to the new then just switch positions and the computer will boot from the new drive. Stand back and enjoy the speed.

Add HD to HPE 150T

I would like to add a second hard drive to my 150T. It has a spare drives available but I don't know if I can add a SATA III which is 6Gbs or will I have to stick with a SATA II 3gbs since the existing drive is SATA II 3gbs?

Yes. You can add a SATA600 HDD. It is a downwardly compatible specification and will only run at the SATA300 spec.
