Add TextEdit in submenu "Open with"

Hello, I have *.cue files and by default they are opened with XLD.
I sometimes want to edit the cue files with TextEdit but when I go to "Open with", TextEdit doesn't appear in the submenu.
I was wondering if there is a way to add TextEdit to the submenu list like the others app.

Wayne,
I have just overcome exactly the problem you are describing. I wanted to add Capture NX2 to the list of programs displayed by Adobe Bridge CS2 when I clicked the "Open with" option. By the way, I'm using Windows XP.
As you have discovered, there seems no way to do it.
It seemed to nme that the list of programs displayed was the list of JPG capable programs at the time Adobe CS2 was installed - and the program I want added to the list wasn't installed at that time.
So I decided to re-install Adobe CS2. But when I went to uninstall before re-instaling, I was presented with the option of "repair" or remove. "Repair" sounded like a good option, so I tried it. It worked! It did something like a re-install, and it certainly found and added the program I wanted on the "Open with" list.
Hope it works for you.

  • Add a program to Open With

How would I go about adding a program to Bridge's Open With command.  I find that my workflow goes better with Photoshop 7 on the majority of my projects.  This has to do with what I do so please don't ask why I don't use PS CS4. <grin><br /><br />If I click on a thumbnail using the right mouse button one of the submenus is Open With and all of the choices are CS4 programs.  I want to add my Photoshop 7 to it.  I should be able to as Corel PhotoPaint is one of the choices as well.<br /><br />Thanks in Advance.

  • QuickTime 7 Adds a %1 to Open With Menu Windows 8.1

The %1 is on .png, .jpg, .bmp .psd photo file types so most photo file types in Windows 8.1 open with list with the exception of .gif file type that has a correct QuickTime photo viewer icon and label.
Uninstalling QuickTime 7 makes that %1 go away.

I also had this problem recently, the solution works but when you reinstall QuickTime, it still comes back.

  • How do we add apps to the 'Open With' contextual menu?

After I updated to Mavericks, all of the apps, except the Apple ones, were blown away (eg. Word and Excel in my VM).
How do I put them back?

'Open With > Other' would not show the apps in my VM.  I tried.
I tried something different.  I left Word open in my Parallels (Vista) VM and ignored it for a while to see if Maverics would pick it up eventually.
    It did.
It seems like that it takes some time for Maverics to find the apps in a VM before we can use it in the 'Open With' menu.

  • Ability to add multiple apps to Open With file associations

It would be extremely helpful if Bridge's "file association" dialog allowed one to associate multiple applications with a file type, so the Open With function worked like Lightroom's Edit In function which allows the use of multiple external editors.  As it is currently designed, only one new "default" association can be changed/added.   A current list of other available "editors" also appears in the Open With context menu, but it is unclear (at least to me) where that list comes from because there are some pretty strange entries in the list for any specific file type.
    Thanks

Agreed -- I've always been curious as to what random generator Bridge uses to assign programs with file types.

  • Can you add Programs to Open With Menu

Is there a way to add programs to the Open With Menu.  For example, when you right click on a file you can choose to open it with the default application by selecting Open, or choose other programs to open it with by selecting Open With.  Only a few of the programs that can open the files are listed.  Is there a way to add programs that I use to list in that list.  Right now, everytime I want to open something in a program that is not listed I have to go to Other... and find it in the Application folder.  Which is not too convenient.  Many programs that I use to open files are not listed for many types of file types, I open them frequently using the Open... window, and I was hoping that Mac would learn to add them, but it did not.
For example, I have VMWare with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 in it, my default application for WORD documents is Word for Mac 2011, but occasionally I need to open it in Word 2010 in Windows (Certain features that are missing in Mac Word), and I have to browse to fin the Word 2010 Application from the Application Folder.  Another example is a program (from the App Store) called ResizeIt (which resizes photos), I have to browse for it everytime even though it is an application just for images.
So, is there a way to edit the Open With Menu for specific file types to include these programs that I use, or do I have to keep browsing to the Application folder and finding it there?
    Thank you in advance!!

  • Add app to "Open with" in MAIL

    Hello all,
in my mail app, when I receive some attached file, I can right clic it and select the app I want to open it with. The problem is, Photoshop is not among that apps list and I want to add it. There is the option "other" (otros) and I can choose it there but, I have to do it every single time I want to open something in photoshop.
How can I add photoshop to the "open with" context menu being INSIDE the Mail app?
See attached image to clear what I need
    Thanks in advance.

You're welcome, sadly there's no fix by now. I will send some feedback directly to Apple, if you want, send it here (there's no direct link to Mail app) http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
The main problem is that mail handle attachments in it's own way, making everthing simple for the reader / viewer. You can add an image an resize it within the app, add an image without extension, etc.
Note: I don't know if your know this one, but if you click on the e-mail message and press Command + Y, it will show the Quick look of your e-mail attachments, once in the popup, right click on the Open Preview button and it will show directly the PS app to Open with, among others.
    Best!

  • Add "Open With" program

I want to be able to open a file type (.dspDisc) in two different programs (DVD Studio Pro, and Smultron), however, I don't know how to add Smultron to the "open with" pop up box (when I right click).
I can say "always open with Smultron," and then I can right click and choose DVD Studio Pro, but I want it to "always open with DVD Studio Pro" with the option to "open with Smultron."
Is there a way to add Smultron to the Open With options? Currently, DVD Studio Pro is the only option in the "open with."

When the system boots up one of the things it does is take a look at the installed applications and consult the info.plist inside the application to see what file types the application claims to open. This information is then cached and Finder consults this when constructing the "Open with" list. You can over-ride the default by selecting a file and then select the application you want to use to open that file, or even all files of that file type. Your over-ride selection is then stored in your home Library Preferences folder in this file:
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist"
Finder consults that list as well as the list generated by the system. You can add an application as the default to your personal list, and it will appear as the default to open the file, even though its own info.plist does not claim to be able to open the file type. It will then appear in the Open With list as the default application, and other applications will appear as alternatives.
It sounds like the source of your problem is that the info.plist inside Smultron does not claim to be able to open files of the type .dspDisc--so while you can assign it open those files and it will then appear as the default, by being added to your personal over-ride list, it won't appear at all if you choose the "normal" application as the default.
If you are good at hacking you could modify the Smultron info.plist to add the file type to its list of things it will open. Otherwise the best course is to just launch it and drag the occasional file you want it to open to the Smultron icon on the Dock.

  • Open with list

    Hello out there,
Lost all of my software due to a virus attack .
Today I  reinstalled adobe photo shop 7, on my wds XP pc.
After opening a picture and click the open with tab, my photo shop is not on the list
I have forgotten how to add it to the open with list, please help.
    Thank you
    George

With the more recent versions of Photoshop, Bridge provides a way to associate the Adobe applications with various file types.  In the Bridge app it's in Edit - Preferences - File Associations as I recall.  It's possible the very old versions of Photoshop didn't yet have this capability - I'm not sure when the various parts (Bridge, File Associations) appeared.

  • How can I open Elements 8 with "Open with dialog" in Windows XP?

When I try to open a photo from My Pictures using the Open with dialog (when I click on Register) I get a message"Specified file is missing! No changes were made"   Photoshop Elements 8 is installed and working. For some reason Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 no longer appears on the list of programs in the Windows Open With dialog. How can I add Adobe Elements 8 to the Open With dialog?  There are programs listed that I do not use. Is there a way to delete or add programs to the Open With dialog?

I couldn't get this to work for some reason. I solved the problem by
    downloading
OpenWithAdd_1.2.zip.   This adds the program to the "Open with dialog"
    The procedure is:
Download OpenWithAdd.zip and run it. Locate the application that you
want to add to the Open With dialog.
Type the command-line parameter (if the application requires one) in the
appropriate text field. And optionally, you can give a personalized name
for the application which you're trying to add to Open With. This text
will appear in the Open With dialog, describing the application.
    Once done, click Register.
Your application is now added to the list.

  • How do I put Lightroom.4.2 in "Open With"?

How do I enter Lightroom 4.2 in "Openwith"?

    ~cynthiak~ wrote:
Since upgrading to 4.2, Lightroom is not on the list and when I click on Other Programs and browse the lightroom.exe, nothing happens. I'm still at the Open With window.
When you click on Other Programs, do you see Lightroom in the list?
Or do you have to click Browse and point out the location of lightroom.exe?
If the latter, is Lightroom then added to other Programs, or is it still missing?
The problem can be that Lightroom is not correctly registered by Windows. I don't know the specifics, but apparently you can't add a program to Open With in Windows 7 if it doesn't have a certain key in the Windows Registry. In older versions of Windows, you just needed an .exe. No registry keys were required.
In one of the Lightroom 3.x versions I was also hit by this and had to add the key manually to the Windows registry.
To check if the key is missing, try this:
    Run regedit.exe
    Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\
There should be a key called lightroom.exe
This key has the subkeys shell -> open -> command
Under command there should be one entry like this (your path may be different):
    (default)  REG_SZ "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.2\lightroom.exe" "%1"
If this key is missing, you will probably not be able to add Lightroom to Open With.
I actually wonder if Adobe has stopped creating this key for Lightroom 4. When I checked my registry to find the exact key, it still pointed to Lightroom 3.6, even though I have had almost all Lightroom 4 versions installed. And when I tried an Open With, it started Lightroom 3. As soon as I changed the path so it pointed to Lightroom 4.3 RC, Open With started Lightroom 4.

To add meta tags, you open your published .html pages with TextEdit or any other text editor and modify as required. You have to do redo it each time you republish. I need step by step instructions on how to accomplish this  please .

Rage Sitemap Automator and iWeb SEO Tool are two different applications.
Use SEO Tool to add the title tag and meta description. These need to be added to the html file for every page of your website. SEO Tool stores all these so that when you republish you only need to add tags to any new pages and click the re-apply button to refresh the existing ones.
Once you have added. refreshe the tags with iWeb SEO Tool and uploaded the files with your FTP application, then open the site in Sitemap Automator and create and upload a new sitemap.
Once you have set up accounts with Google, Yahoo and Bing, verified your site with each and submitted a sitemap, on subsequent publishing Sitemap Automator will resubmit the sitemap with one button click. It will also notify Ask.com whch doesn't require an account since you can add your domain name to this URL to ping them...

  • TextEdit 1.7 doesn't open with blank page - why?

    Why the change, Apple, why?
I use TextEdit all the time - it's simple - I can copy and paste important web-realted writings, like the one I'm writing right now, in case the web crashes or my wifi goes out or yet another Safari bug appears.  And when my writing is inspired, I can open TextEdit quickly and get the idea typed quickly - unlike other programs that take a moment to open.
But now, TextEdit has changed in OS 10.7.3, for some reason:
    1.  When you open the application, it reverts to whatever you were typing before, or whatever document was saved the last time you opened TextEdit.  E.g., it doesn't open with a blank page.  Why on earth would you change this?  Now when I'm finished typing something, I have to select ALL and DELETE the work, so it doesn't distract me when I open a new document, or I want to save some completely new document.  That simply adds up to more mouse-clicking in a long day.
    2.  There is no "save as" under File.  Just "save".  Again, why change this?
Apple / Mac, just ask yourselves, is this a "change", or an "improvement"?

  • Adding TextEdit.app as non-default in Open with menu

When I open .ps files the default is "Preview.app", which I usually prefer.
But often I want to open the file in TextEdit. How can I add TextEdit to the list of alternate apps
(currently ColorSync, MPEGstreamclip, and TeXShop) without making it the default App?
If I change Open with the TextEdit, it makes TextEdit the default App(wrong!) and moves Preview to the list of alternates. But when I select Preview as the default App(correct) the TextEdit option is deleted.
There was a way to add more non-default Apps in NextStep. Is there a way to do so in OS X?

You can change a file's open with app without affecting any others. Just don't click on the change all button. On subsequent CMD+I checks, TextEdit should show up with the others. If not, you can rebuild the LaunchServices database by launching the Terminal.app, copy & paste in this command (all one line), hit the enter key, and restart:
*/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchS ervices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user*

preview can't open folders. it opens files. in general, you can't add anything to "Open with menu" by hand. the only way to force something to be there is to make it the default application for certain file type. this should already be the case with image files unless you've changed the default application to something other than Preview. to set a default application control-click on an image file and select 'get info". in the resulting popup go to "open with section and set it to open with the app of your choice. then click "change all".
Lastly, to quickly open all files in a given folder in preview drop that folder on Preview in the dock.
when you press CMD + O in Preview and select folder, Preview will open all pictures from the folder with their thumbnails
