Add to cache or export

the way I have been getting files out of FCS is by right clicking and choosing ADD TO CACHE. We usually deal with 6 minute video clips so in a minute, you get the dot and you are ready to drag the file to your desktop.
I have been told at work that this method messes things up and we need to export the other way by choosing export. Is one way better that another. Thanks for any insight.

Truth is, that book has everything you need to know to use and customize FCSvr in it. If you're looking for more, you're looking for a babysitter. After doing that book, you know everything there is to know about FCSvr, and are able to customize it to your hearts content, period. If you're looking for something more, the truth is, there is nothing more. That's how simple and easy FCSvr is, period. I simply does not get any more "advanced" than that book. Unless you really do need a babysitter. That is the simple fact of FCSvr life.
Same as the original book? Not by a long shot! This one makes learning FCSvr much easier! The original book was a MESS! This one has formulas in it, shows you about everything you need to know to be able to move forward.
You're both looking for babysitters, and such does not exist. It's a wonderful book, I teach it weekly all over the country, and my students and clients love it, learn it, and do amazing things with FCSvr after going through it. Fact.

As Mylenium suggests, using Flash, or Premiere Pro, will allow you to add the Audio. With the SWF, Flash would be the first choice on my system. There are also other programs, with the capability to edit the SWF. Moyea has some, and there are also freeware editors.
I have an old version of Swish (supplemental to my Flash program), but do not think that my old-timer has any Audio capabilities - maybe I just never looked?

Add frame hold and export frame

hi
i'm working on HD broadcast cartoon animation.
'add frame hold' and 'export frame' are not creating a 2 field, proper frame hold for me - yes i can tweak the field options using 'always deinterlace' or 'flicker removal' but this isnt a fix or a true result of a 'frame freeze'.
is this a bug or am i missing something?

Bridge cache managment & export to folders?

What is the function and advantage of "auto exporting cache to folders" in Bridge?
Round 2 testing, I changed the CS6 Bridge cache location to be the same location I was using for CS5, on a secondary drive.
Small mistake, because CS6 proceeded to delete the entire existing cache and start building a new one. However, Bridge CS5 seems to coexist OK sharing the same cache with CS6. They are both re-building the cache as I visit individual folders. (30,000 files in 800 folders gonna take a while).
Long ago under CS3 I adopted the strategy of setting Bridge to "Auto export cache to folders." That worked well, because if you purged the master cache, Bridge would very quickly rebuild it from the folder cache files each time you re-visited a folder. The thumbs would come up very quickly if a folder cache existed, much slower if no folder cache existed.
Under CS5, and now CS6, that is no longer true. If you visit a folder after the cache has been purged, a slow process to generate thumbnails occurs. It appears that the individual folder cache is not being used for anything. The time to re-build the cache is about the same, regardless of whether folder cache files exist or not.
Purging or deleting the Bridge cache was often necessary under CS3 because the cache often became corrupted. CS5 was more stable, but still not immune from cache corruption. Maybe CS6 will be even more stable, but I'm betting cache purges will still be sometimes necessary. Is there any way to make the rebuild faster? Or more generally, what's the best strategy for Bridge cache management?
(And no, I don't have "keep 100% previews in cache" selected.)

I'm using the function module REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY, to display an ALV report. This report shows a standard text when users click on one column.
I wanna know if its possible to add the standard text as a column into the EXCEL exported from this ALV? and if so, how can I do it?

I need to add named destination in pdf when ms word is exporting to pdf that will support named destination in adobe reader 10 and 11.
I tried with options create bookmarks as word bookmarks but that also not supporting in adobe reader 10/11.
Please let me know how we can create bookmarks while exporting MS word to PDF.
And when we are opening pdf in IE with search parameter,its always opening PDF with 2 document on left serach panel.

Automatically add InDesign metadata to Exported PDF

Dear InDesigners,
For the studio I work it became important to make visible which person (Author) worked on a certain document as well as what the latest version of that specific document is.
It sometimes happens that clients send us a PDF file (with corrections or changes in it) of an old version of a document. We now keep only one (latest) InDesign documents and save any changes in there, so there's no real way to notice the PDF and InDesign are different versions.
Questions:
1. Is it possible for a user to have InDesign automatically fill-in the 'Author' field when exporting a pdf?
2. Is it possible to have a unique element in an exported pdf that makes it clear it connects to a specific version of an InDesign document?

P.S. I am looking into XMP, but am completely new in this, but maybe there's a solution in there? Additional info: Management now told us, for each change made to a document an incremental document should be saved (adding _v01 and for the next change save it with_v02 and so on), and the previous version kept as it is. For the studio this means a lot of additional (manual) effort and cluttered project folders with numerous files with increasing file name sizes. I'm hoping I can prevent this...

You can add stuff manually in the File>File Info
It might be possible to script this information into the File Info
All that info will come up in Acrobat under File>Document Properties.

Add BOM to Essbase exported file?

We've got a MaxL script that exports a Unicode-enabled database to a text file. By default that file is UTF-8 encoded, however it's "Unix" UTF-8 encoded and therefore has no byte order mark (BOM) at the beginning of the file.<BR>While this practice may not be wrong or bad, we cannot load the files into Cognos Decision Stream. Because DS does not see a BOM it does not recognize the file as UTF8 and chokes on the load.<BR>Is there a way to automate adding the BOM UTF-8 signature to the exported text files? It appears from the documentation that 'essutf8 -s filename.txt' should work, but it does not - the file is still sans BOM. Suggestions?<BR><BR>Thank you.

Your Flash project is set to use Actionscript 3.0. In ActionScript 3.0 code cannot be added to buttons (or any symbol) directly it can only be added to a keyframe in the timeline. Mordys's suggestion above will work for a file that targets Actionscript 2.0 though.
Since I assume the code was sent by the people you created the banner for and the code is for AS 2.0, you should be able to change the targeting of the movie.
1- In Flash go to File>Publish Settings.
2- In the Flash tab of the Publish Settings dialog box Choose Actionscript 2.0 from the actionscript version drop down menu.
3-Close the window.
You can now go back to the timeline and add the code to the buttons as Mordy suggested.
In the getURL action I believe the address of the link should be inside quotes.
If you need the code for making a button in AS 3.0 it is considerably longer. If you need it shoot me an email, it is in my profile.

How to add a link like "Export" to schedule the report in dashboard

when i add a report into dashboard, i can "analyze","edit" or "export" it using report links.
but now if i browse my dashboard, i find a report which i am interested in, and i want to schedule it directly in dashboard.
i suppose it will be a botton or a link like "analyze" or "export".
but i can not get the report's path directly, wich i want to use it in the catalogobject parameter of writeibot() web service.
can anyone help me?

Visio SCOM Add-In - Distributed Application Export not Contacting Management Server

I have installed the Visio 2010 SCOM Add-In to my copy of Visio 2013 (since there is no 2013 Add-in and there seemed to be enough articles that it *should* work). I can connect to my Management server from a blank diagram and add objects without issue, although
I seem to have to reconnect every time I start a new drawing. Not that the configuration is gone, I just can't do anything until I go into Configure and click OK. The real issue though is that when I go into SCOM and export a Distributed Application as a Visio
Diagram and then open it in Visio, it is not connecting to the Management server and none of the objects seem to have any SCOM data associated with them. I have tried manually linking the objects in the drawing to SCOM objects but this does not work, even
though I can see the SCOM objects.
For reference, I am doing all of this work on my Win7 machine with Visio 2013. I have the SCOM console installed on my machine. SCOM is SCOM2012 R2 running on a 2012 server.

Iphoto 9.5.1 won't add picasa to the export list

I have always been able to get picasa as one of the export photos options in the past versions of iphoto. Now it won't add that option. I re-downloaded the latest version of picasa web uploader for mac and restarted both apps but I just can't get it done. It would be ridiculous to have to export a whole album to another place on my disk just so I can upload.
Does anyone know why this isn't working now? or how to get it to work?

iPhoto offers a plug-in architecture for export plug ins. DIfferent folks then make plug-ins for that architecture. You'll need to ask the makers of the picasa one why thay haven't updated that plug-in in years.

Collection add() produces cache corruption

When working with UOW clones of both objects, when I try to add the ServiceProvider object to the Application object's serviceProvider collection, and then call printRegisteredObjects() and validateCache() on the UOW, I get a cache corrupt message. Should this be normal?

Why does Illustrator adds whitespace to my exported .svg file?

Hi there,
everytime I try to save an logo, icon or anything else as a .svg file Illustrator adds whitespace to it. I'm going crazy. I cropped the canvas to the point that there should be now useless space. After saving the file as an .svg it has whitespace where it shouldn't be.
I'm using the german version, so I don't know how this option is called in english: "Use canvas" when saving I activated, didn't help at all.
I'm really desperate. Anybody else experiencing this problem with .svg files?

Without proper system info, save settings, screenshots and ultimately the SVG code nobody can say anything. you haven't even told us what version of AI. That aside, there may always be extra padding due to how SVGs need to be rendered inside a drawing box and some items otehrwise would not show up. It may not be "fixable" even by manually hacking the code.

Add page break when exporting a report as an editable RTF with JRC

Hello,
When exporting a report as an editable rtf in Crystal Reports Designer we can select the option : "Insert page break after each report page".
Does the same option exists in the JRC ? I don't want to use the MSWord export format.

Yes. EditableRTFExportFormatOptions has the following method:
setInsertPageBreaks(boolean bInsertPageBreaks). Sets whether page breaks are inserted into the exported Rich Text Format (RTF) file that correspond to the page breaks in the report.
