"Add to existing album" is missing in Photos app

The Photos app on my iPad 2 gives me the option to add photos from the Camera Roll to a new album, but there is no "Add to existing album" option.  I know it should be there because I've used it before, and I can still see it on my iPhone 4.  But it has disappeared from my iPad.
I'm using iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1.

You cannot add photos that were synced to to the iPad from iTunes to another album as you have just found out.
Only photos from your camera roll, which would include photos that you take with the iPad, photos saved from emails or photos saved from websites. Synced photos will stay in the albums that you synced them from on your computer.
Synced albums cannot be changed and the photos in those albums cannot be deleted from the device without unselecting them in iTunes and then syncing again.

  • Add or edit geotag (GPS) data with Photos App

Geotag is an EXIF metadata associated with a single photo that give the geographical location of where the photo has been taken. At this time, the geotag EXIF is fully supported by Photos (we see the location on a map) and we have the option to strip the information when we share the photo. To work with Photos, the EXIF geotagging info must be embedded with the photo when it is transferred from the camera to the Photos App.
However, many cameras don't have a GPS that sets the photo location. The geotag must be added later manually. Some photo editing software strip EXIF data (or just Geotag data) and sometimes these photo editor apps set geotag of their own (the location where the picture is edited, not the original location where the picture comes from).
It would be nice to add a geotag addition/edition feature to Photos.app.

Now that iCloud drive keeps the photo library synced between all devices it would be nice if there was a way to edit tags, geotags, descriptions, etc.  on iCloud.com as well as IOS.
I tested to add GPS using AppleScript, but most of the EXIF field are readonly and we cannot change the GPS tags with Apple Script in iPhoto. It was possible to do that in Aperture, but does not work in Photos.
Right now, it is best to add GPS before importing to Photos.

  • IPhoto vs iPhone's add to existing album feature

I initially created photo albums using iPhoto and then synced them to the iPhone via iTunes.
Then copied those photos to new albums on the iPhone using the add to existing feature of the iPhone.
When I unsync or turn off iPhoto syncing in iTunes all photos are also removed from the new albums that were created using the add to existing feature.
Thus, is there a way to prevent those photos from being deleted from the albums created on the iPhone?
    Thank you for any help!

  • How to merge albums in OS X Photos app

I imported my iPhoto library to the new Photos app. I see all my events (now called "albums") from iPhoto, but I'm no longer able to drag and drop one album into another. Is this no longer possible?
I understand I can create folders and drop multiple albums into there, but with how I organize my library, I'd prefer to just combine albums. It's how I did it in iPhoto and with how many photos I have stored in my library, It would take me weeks to reorganize them all.

Although you cannot "merge" albums like you used to be able to in iPhoto, you can Add Photos to another album. Just select the photos you would like moved to another folder and than choose the plus sign in the top right corner > album > change 'New Album' to 'The Events' and locate your previous album name that you would like the photos to be moved too > OK.
Now this will duplicate the album, so make sure to delete the original folder that is now out of place.

  • How do I export an album from the iPhone Photos app in a form that retains location information so I can import it to ArcMap or Google Earth?

I have an iPhone 4S with OS 5.1 installed and I have taken several hundred photos that are geotagged and that show up in the Places page in the Photos app. These were taken for field work and have data in them that we want to use to tie information in the photos to locations in a GIS application. Therefore I would like to be able to export the mapped locations along with the photos in a way that would allow me to upload the locations to ArcMap or to Google Earth. I know that the individual photos have location information but the process of uploading them to Panoramio one at a time is labor-intensive, whereas I can take an entire album in the Photos application and quickly display locations tied to photos on the screen.
Also these photos were taken before I enabled iCloud on my iPhone and I'm wondering how to upload them even though they were taken previously. When I go into the "share" menu my only options are email, tweet, message, and print. I'd like to send the whole album to iCloud so I can at least bring it back into applications on my Macbook Pro.
Does anyone have a recommendation as to how I can go about doing either of these things?

This is something that I want to do as well. I'm new to applescript, but I found this script:
    http://www.bagelturf.com/aparticles/tips/tipprint/index.php
Go to about half way down the page. The script works well, but I'd like to change it so that I only export Versions w/ a specified "main rating" (or greater than a minimum rating)
If you look at the script, there's a line:
"set theimages to every image version as list"
FYI: "image version" is an Aperture class that represents an image version. "main rating" is a property of "image version"
Is there a way to modify this applescript statement to spec only those "image versions" that meet a min "main rating"? I tried a bunch of things, and none of them compiled. (I need to learn Applescript)
If not, then how could this be done w/ a little loop in Applescript?
    Thanks for your help!

  • When I go to add photos into an existing album the albums won't allow me to select them. How do you fix this problem?

When I go to select the photos then hit the arrow to add to existing album it brings up my albums but they are blacked out and won't allow me to select the album I need the photos to go. How do I make it so the photos can go into an album?

Which albums are you trying to add them to ? You should be able to add them to new albums that you've created directly on the iPad, but you can't add photos to albums that were synced from a computer.

  • Why are Albums missing from the Albums "tab" in Photos app?

I just upgraded to the new version of OS X with the new Photos app.  All of my photos transferred over to the new app correctly, but not all of my Albums are showing up in the new Albums "tab" in the Photos app.
For instance, my "Honeymoon" album does not show up on the Albums "tab," but when I search for in the Photos app it will appear.
How do I get all of my Albums to show up on this tab?
Additionally, does anyone know how to change the "timestamp" on photos?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Terence,
I appreciate the reply, but that did not solve my issue.  Several of my albums are still "missing" from the list, even though I can find them when I search:

  • In iOS Photos app, how do I get photo to go to a different album?

In Photos on an iPad4, I want to move some photos from one album to another or from PhotoStream or Camera Roll to an album.  I recall the process being...
    1.  Select an album.  Press Edit.  Select the pictures you want to move.  Click Add to...   Choose whether to Add to existing album OR Add to a New album.  I choose Existing album and up pops a header saying Add to Album with my chosen number of photos below and the available albums.
WHAT NEXT?  I believe I used to be able to simply tap on the target album and in would go the selected photos.  Now, I have a Cancel button in the upper right.  No other buttons and no combination of touches, taps, holds, seems to have any effect on anything...
Is this a bug in a latest release of iOS?
    Thanks

    1. Tap Edit on top right
    2. Select photo for new Folder
    3. Tap Add To...
    4. Give folder a name

  • PSE7 Backup/Sync fails with existing album

My PSE7 install is an upgrade from PSE6, so obviously I have a large numnber of albums defined already from what PSE7 considers to be the "first run" of the organizaer.
I've been down this road of trying to sync my content up to PS.COM once before - and it was a disaster.  Had issues on both ends of the deal, so I went back to PSE6 while working with the PS.COM guys (who turned out to be great!) to get the issues with the site straightened out.  I think we're there on the web side, so I'm starting over.  I wiped out everything on the PS.COM side - had a blank account with 40G of space available.
I upgraded (again) to PSE7.  Once 7 was running I created a new album (called Test PScom), enabled backup/sync and put three photos in it.  This all worked fine, and my three photos are now up on the PS.COM site.
However, test two crapped out.  I took an existing album (with about 15 photos in it) and enabled backup/sync for it.  What happend is that the sync agent created the album on the PS.COM site, but none of the photos ever get uploaded.  If I choose the "photos pending sync" view in PSE7, I see all 15 of the items that belong in this album.  They're marked as needing to be sync'd.  However, they never actually get transfered.
    Things I'm pretty sure of:
It's not a permissions / firewall / connectivity problem.  Anything I create that's brand new syncs just fine.
It's not the content of this album.  All 15 photos are JPGs ~1M each
I'm not out of space on the site, and my PS.COM account is (now) in good working order
The sync engine itself hasn't died
I've seen all the suggestions (made some of them myself) about how to "trick" the engine into working.  I'll do it if I have to, but I'm much more interested in getting some onput from Adobe as to what the real problem is here.
Also curious if I'm the only one left with this issue, or if there are others?

    Hi,
Sign out of your account. Stop sync and follow the steps mentioned at the following tech note http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408660.html . Sign in and start sync again. See if it helps .
Also send us your Sync db : Navigate to your catalog location (catalog location can be viewed under Help>System Info)Zip the syncdb folder there and send to [email protected]
    Thanks

  • Creating Albums in the Photo App

How do I create albums in the photo app on my iPad if I don't have a Mac or pc to sync to?

With iOS 5+ you should get an Edit button at the top of the Albums screen in the Photos app which lets you create new albums, and you can then copy your photos into those new albums - the photos are only copied or pointed to by those new albums, so if you delete the original photo on your iPad then it is also deleted from all albums that you've copied it into.

  • I upgraded to the new photos app on my mac and don't see my shared albums

I do not see my shared albums on the new Photos app for iMacs.  Where can you find them as my shared tab just says start sharing but doesn't display the previous shared albums I create on the the old iPhoto app.

Did you reboot the router too?

  • Blurry Images in new Photos App

I have noticed a problem with the new Photos app and I am uncertain whether it is unique to my system (iMac 2013 21inch).  Photos taken in a portrait orientation do not display sharp on the screen.  They look a little blurry as if the software hasn't properly rendered the image for preview.  If you zoom in to part of the photo and then zoom out again the issue corrects itself and the image is displayed sharp.
Has anyone else had this problem and have they fixed it?

Hi, i'm struggling to find a way of merging albums in the new photos app does anyone know how to do this?
Make the sidebar visible.  View > Show Sidebar ⌥⌘S
Select one of the albums and all photos in it.
Drag the selected photos to the other album in the sidebar to merge the photos into it. Then delete the now empty original album. You can delete an album by selecting it in the Sidebar, ctrl-clicking it, then use "Delete album" from the contextual menu.

  • No Pics in Photos App

When I sync my photos from Itunes to my Iphone 4 there isn't any photos under the Photos app. Pictures are in camera roll under the Camera app. How do I get them to show up in the albums section of the Photos app?

Deselect Sync Photos followed by selecting Apply and a sync.
Follow this by reselecting Sync Photos and your selections below followed by a sync.

  • How to keep photo order when opening default photo app?

First it concerns the default photo App: I have created an Album based on recent photos imported from the cloud, there are 125 photos in them, for some reason they are in the wrong order, i.e. by date. I know how to rearrange one photo at a time, but it's painfully slow to go through all 100s of them.
Second, there is the iPhoto App: I downloaded iPhoto app from the iWork suite, that came free for me, it gave me an option to sort photos by date, hooray!
BUT!! when I close iPhoto and reopen the default photo app, the photos were no longer sorted, it was the same order before the sort!
My question is, how on earth do I sort an album in iPhoto and to keep that order when I open the album through the default photo app or indeed any other app that uses the iOS albums such as facebook etc?

As far as i know, you can't, when using iphoto, the sort is only for iphoto, apps on ios do not have access to one anothers data, ever, you can transfer a file from one app to another app that supports the file format but then you have two independent copies of that file.
