How, in OS X 10.8, do I add the trashcan to the desktop?

Open Terminal and enter this line:
ln -s ~/.Trash ~/Desktop/Trash

If I open up the AirPort App - it only says that it cannot find my AirPort wireless device (probably because I dont have one) and then if I go to networks to connect to my wifi I select my home network and it ask me to input a password (as it should) but when I try to put in my password for my network it says "connection timeout" and the screen behind it (where the options for wifi or ethernet ext are) it says no ip address under wifi (also the status indicator is showing yellow - since my wifi is on just not connected to a network. I cannot seem to find any place to input my information for my specific router. Although I can connect to neighboring wifi routers just fine.

I have gnome 3 installed. I have enabled adding files in desktop. Now my desktop shows home icon and trash. Now i want to add some existing application launcher to desktop. For example i have chromium browser installed and i have added it to favorites. I want to add launcher to desktop as a icon, so that i can click on chrome icon in desktop and use chromium browser. I searched on the google a lot but no luck

It is now solved. I installed extensions from here . These extensions make available gnome 2 features in gnome 3 by using native gnome 3 code and not by making to fall back to gnome 2. But these extensions doesn't have one feature i am looking for , which is launchers. For that only i found was to install gnome-panel. Which is a gnome2 thing. Unfortunately i couldn't find any gnome 3 things that would do this. So i installed gnome-panel which contains gnome-desktop-item-edit file. Then i ran the following to create a launcher :
gnome-desktop-item-edit --create-new ~/Desktop
But the problem is that the site says it might break with gnome 3 updates.

How to add number of desktop

I have two user in my MBA. One use account with 4 desktops. But another user account only with 1 desktop. May I know how can I add more desktop?

Enter Mission Control, move the cursor to the top, right side of the screen. A tab will slide out of the right side with a + sign on it. Click that to add another desktop.

Add apps to desktop

How do I add my apps from my Icloud to my MacBook air desktop? I can see them in Itunes but cannot access them or download to my desktop?

Apps in iTunes are actually for iOS devices (iPad, iPhone etc). To purchase/download apps for the Mac, you would use the App Store. An app from one type of device (iPad) is not useable on the other (Mac).

Add Applications to Desktop Dock

I have set up additional accounts for our kids on my MacBook Pro. When logging onto their accounts the dock at bottom of desktop screen only shows Finder, Application Folder, Docs Folder, Shared Folder & Trash. When I try to drag an application icon to the left side of the doc for shortcut clicking, it will add it to the left but then remove it when I close the application. How can I get selected application icons to stay over on the left side so they are easily there when my kids logon to their accounts?

I just tried that and it stays in the Dock (left side) while app is open but when I log out and log back in the icon is no longer in the Dock (left side). I have to go back through the app folder and re-open it. On my main (admin) account login the icons stay in the left side regardless of whether it's open or not. This is what I'm trying to accomplish for kids' desktop so that they don't have to go searching for appropriate apps.

Does anyone know if it is possible to add hyperlinks to videos or documents to client's desktops on Windows Server 2008? I am trying to use a similar functionality to Active Desktop which allows desktop wallpaper to be .html files.

Yes, create an IE shortcut for the hyperlink and simple shortcut for the documents, with GPP it's easy with GPO. (Adding
shortcuts on desktop using Group Policy Preferences in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1) (wrote for windows 8, but the same gpo can be applyed to 2008R2)

Can't update add-ons, install toolbars or new add-ons, get desktop shortcut icons to work, delete desktop shortcut icons, or uninstall Firefox! Help!

I have Firefox 3.6.3 running on a Toshiba Satellit laptop with Windows XP. I can't update add-ons, install google and yahoo toolbars, get any of the 3 desktop shortcuts to work or delete them, nor uninstall Firefox to try and start over. What a piece of crap! How can I wake up from this nightmare?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Desktend - add/remove virtual desktops automatically

Hello everyone,
I created a small utility to dinamically create and destroy virtual desktops (also known as workspaces).
The tool will always create one empty desktop for your. If you put a window on it, the tool will create a new one and the empty desktops will be removed.
The minimum and maximum number of desktops are hardcoded but you can easly change them by editing the source file.
I created it for my openbox desktop but it should work with any EWMH window manager.
Any feedback is welcome. Have fun.

You don't need that script in openbox. Openbox is capable of that natively. This is my config:

I open Firefox and nothing responds, no bookmarks, nothing unless I open a new window. Since this problem I have pop up adds on my desktop from Castrol, fifa!

I don't think its a virus, I have done so many virus scans and I can't tell what is going wrong. I have uninstall and reinstall firefox to have this problem still happening. The only difference I have applied on firefox sometime before this problem, is installing a skin, which I have never done since installment. I realize there was a problem when the skin fails to show and there is a blank green space where the skin would be displayed. I have since (with the problem) have pop up adds from Fifa 2014, Castrol GTX and others, mostly in Spanish. I don't understand why as I have AVG installed. I googled the problem and I have yet to find out why this is happening on my computer.

On my previous version of Mac OS X I was able to add as much desktops I want by just going into upper right corner with my pointer and clickin on the sign +. Now, after replacing my SSD and installing new OS I don't have that option. Does anyone knows how to add desktops on Mac OS 10.7.5? Thank you

Mission Control – Work in Multiple Spaces
If you want to keep the desktops in a specific order, go to System Preferences/Mission Control and uncheck the box " Automatically rearrange spaces based on most recent use." You can also select the box below that so if you open an application, you'll be taken to that space.
If you want to cut down the number of desktops, there is also an option to remove the Dashboard as a desktop and have it work like it did in Snow Leopard. That can be set in System Preferences/Mission Control by deselecting Show Dashboard as a space. You can access the Dashboard by clicking on the Dashboard icon in the dock or using the FN 12 key.

Here are a few things to consider.
How many desktops do you have? There is a maximum which I can't recall, but maybe you've reached it?
If your dock is on the right, the little new desktop button will appear in the upper LEFT corner.
Sometimes third party software interferes with Mission Control. Does this behavior persist for a different user, e.g. Guest User? Does this behavior persist when starting up in Safe Mode?

OH - I thought that you plugged the DSL into the port with the circle of dots and the cable to the computer into the one with the 2-ended arrow??

Desktop 6 and Missing Add-in function

After upgrading to Desktop 6.0, I can no longer fing the add-in function to sync my third party application (Ascendo Datavault). I tried to reinstall Ascendo Datavault and the add-in function does not appear.
Where do I find the add-in function to sync third party applications?

I had the add-in working in 5, and then all i did was perform an upgrade via the popup. when 6 loaded, the add-in was there.
I jsut now tried installing the keypass add-in on my home computer that previously had no add-ins in Desktop Software 6, and when I re-launched teh Desktop Software 6, the add-ins menu was there as well.
Perhaps, you could try downloading and installing the "Desktop Install" of Keypass for blackberry. http://f5bbutils.fairview5.com/keepassbb2/ and see if when it turns on the add-ins menu, if your other addin appears as well?

Keyboard shortcut to add desktop?

Is there a way to add a keyboard shortcut to add a virtual desktop?
I don't see one in Shortcuts or in the finder menu.

Is there any way I can create a keyboard shortcut (i.e. F1, or command-F, a right-click, or something) to take the place of clicking on the "Add Missing Face" button?
Probably with an app like *_[Keyboard Meastro|http://www.keyboardmaestro.com/main>_* or similar.
