Add tunes to library slow

OSx 10.6.8
iTunes 10.4
Macbook Pro 13 inch 2.66 GHz intel core 2 duo  4 gb ram
All of a sudden, using the latest version of iTunes is running very slow or hanging while trying to import mp3 files into the library.   The mp3 files are clean and play just fine when I hit the space bar to play them in Finder.   Plenty of HD space.   Any ideas about what to do to fix this?   It seems to take forever.  Like one album's worth will take as long as 7 or 8 minutes to process and be copied to the library.

In my case (the guy who originally posted), I did both verify disk and verifiy permissions and that did not help my slow import to iTunes problem.   I have been dinking with the preferences in iTunes (such as turning off "Check for new software updates automatically" under "General" and "Always check for available downloads" under "Store" and I briefly thought I had fixed the issue.   But after one fast import, the next one was balky.   I am surprised that so few people are posting about this problem.   Maybe everyone on the planet has already imported all the music on the planet and cannot ingest any more tunes for fear of their brains exploding!   ;-)

  • Unable to add tunes to library

I have tried to add a few songs to my library so I can put them on my iPod Nano. It doesn't want to add a few songs and I have no idea why. It'll add some tunes but when I went to add two tunes from one band and three tunes from another, it won't do it. Considering these are tunes I want on my iPod, this is kinda ticking me off as I've just spent an hour trying to get these tunes to be where I want them.
I had DL-ed these tunes off of Limewire (as most of my tunes are) and have no problem playing them on winamp (on both my work and home compy). Winamp is the default player on both machines.
What the heck is going on? Why won't it let me put these in my library so I can get them onto my iPod? Is there another way I can get them on my iPod? Assistance on this would be appreciated.

Your iPod is set to automatically sync all songs from your iTunes library only. If you just want to put certain files on there you have to enable manually syncing. Connect your iPod and click the iPod icon on the source list. At the bottom, under options, there is a check box that ask you if you want to manually sync iPod. Check that and click on apply. Now you can just drag your music and sync to your iPod.

  • Unable to sync my movies in the i tunes 11 library i try to add the mp4 video by using the add to library option but the movie does not sync while the music is syncing fine...

i am unable to sync my movies in the i tunes 11 library i try to add the mp4 video by using the add to library option but the movie does not sync while the music is syncing fine...

I had the same issue. What I did was save the movies on a thrid-party app like Download Manager Lite. Once downloaded, go back to itunes, go to your iDevice, go to apps and transfer the app, then scroll down and click on the app and from there you can send the movies to that app and WILL play. Can only hold up to 8 videos/movies (this is for iPod Touch 3G or better, iPhone 3s or better, iPad requires iOS 4.3 or better)
    YES THIS APP SUPPORTS .mp4
From other ipod (nano, classic): I don't remember.
If your just putting them on iTunes, it should show and play on iTunes no problem.

  • What are the "Add to Loop Library" requirements for creating automatically conforming loops?

I am trying to create my own loops that conform to the tempo and key of a song. I have made several loops in this way by selecting a region that is exactly 4 bars, for example, and then selecting "Add to Loop Library". If the sample is cut correctly, the "Type:" field is enabled which allows you to make it a Loop and therefore have it automatically conform to the song tempo.
In the past I have made loops that were very long, up to 128 beats, for the purpose of making mashups using instrumental tracks that I want to conform to the song. I now can't seem to create a large loop but I am not sure why. I know it is possible, but I don't know the steps I took to get there.
What are the exact requirements that allow a loop to be added to the loop library while also conforming to song key and tempo?

In the past I have made loops that were very long, up to 128 beats
The longest loop I managed to save as "Loop" had 55 measures (220 beats, 203 bpm). Longer loops could only be saved as "One shot". And the loop had to be cut at the end, not simply be trimmed by dragging the end of the region. The tempo matters; for a slow song the loop can only have fewer measures.

  • Import = Add file to library??

Hi. I'm from French Canada, and it's my first time here.
I saw a topic similar to mine further in the list, about importing many tunes folders. I had to reboot my computer recently, and I realize I'll have to reimport it all. I understood that I can do the "add folder to library " command to avoid doing it manually.
But as a strong user of this command since the beginning, I noticed that the songs "added" where "killed" randomly, and regular what this phenomenon. I interpreted it as I must "import" instead to put it "for real" on Itunes, but this process doesn't deal with folders, which means a lot of time. Is that the truth?
If it is so, is the "export library" command a useful one in my strategy of being safe for the next reboot action?
    Thanks a lot.

There's a bug with recent versions of iTunes. Depending on your path length, you can only add 2 or 3 files at a time via the File -> Add File to Library menu option. If you add more, the dialog just closes without adding anything. Try adding the files 2 or 3 at a time...it's a pain, but it's the only thing that works right now.

  • ITunes freezes when selecting "Add file to library" or "Add folder....

Not had a problem before and everything worked fine.
But this morning if I select "Add file to library" or "Add folder to library" nothing happens and itunes just freezes.
I can play music already in the library.
    Any ideas?

I'm having a similar problem. If I select the Add to Library option, the dialog box will open and then hang. I get the spinning wheel of death and nothing happens. I have to force quit and try again. It seems to have something to do with the sidebar menu list and I've noticed a slowing in other apps as it loads the sidebar in these dialog boxes.

  • Cannot add folder to Library

    HP6120 Windows XP Pro
I used Winamp and have a Library of a view thausends songs. A view days ago I installed iTunes because I planned to buy an Ipod 80GB.
I used the add folder to Library function and added the My Music folder to the library. Everything went well, but I noticed, that the number of songs was essentially lower than expected, because my ogg files were not taken into the library.
Therefore transformed the ogg-files to mp3-files.
I deleted all songs in my iTunes-library and tried to add the My Music Folder again to the library but now it stopps after a view songs with an error. The last song and the following songs are songs which have been accepted by the first run. (By the way - Winamp accepted all transformed files without any problems)
To solve the Problem I uninstalled and installed iTunes 7.018 a view times. I deleted the library folder. Restarted the computer again and again but the result was allways the same and the described failure came up.
I do really not know, how to solve the problem. I am not shure whether I will buy the Ipod as long as iTunes will not run properly. In the forum was the same failure described which came up after deleting of songs from the library.

FYI, I can work around this issue by browsing to any folder on another drive, "adding" it (even if it contains no music), then browsing the drive that has my music on it. I don't consider this a solution, but at least I can add my tunes now.

  • Cant import songs or add to my library

when I open i tunes and click import on the file menu, itunes just closes the same happens when i click export, or add file to library. I ran a Norton Antivirus scan to see if it was a virus, spyware, etc, but nothing came up. And when I go to my computer and try to open my music folder, it says Windows Explorer needs to close. I tried running a scan on only that folder too. Can someone please help me??

Don't know if this will help, but first make sure you have your music backed up. It's always possible that your antivirus software could be causing the problem, or you may have just downloaded a corrupted file. I would uninstall iTunes, then download it again. "Save" the install file rather than "Run" it. Shut down your internet connection for safety, turn off your antivirus program, then install iTunes. Restart your computer & turn your antivirus software on. May be a little bit of trouble, but it's worked for me on other software

  • Help Can not add music to library

When i go to file- add file to library- and select the file(playlist) from windows media play it doesnt do anything no error message or anything. I am not good with computers so i need help. All the songs are mp3's. I dont know what to do.

When i go to file- add file to library- and select the file(playlist) from windows media play
Make sure that you are adding actual files - not a windows media player 'playlist'.
    1. Locate where you store the music files that you want (on your computer)
    2. Select the file(s) or album folder
    3. Move the file(s) to your iTunes library on your computer (usually: C: My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music)
    4. In iTunes: File > Add File to library ....Or Add Folder to library > locate the files, select them and add.
Note: It's best to chose a Media Player that you fancy the most to handle your media. If you use two media players to play the same files - then it may cause a conflict between them resulting in duplicate files, files that are not found and automatic renaming of files etc.
    Good luck

  • Can not add music to library.

I have tried adding music files (MP3)  to library and it opens fine and allows me to select it but then it does not appear in the library. I've tried dragging and dropping but nothing. I have also manually added files to the Itunes folder. They appear but not in Itunes. If I uninstall Itunes and reinstall how will this effect the Iphone, and Ipod information apps ect? Will I have to redo all the sign in junk associated? Because honestly with an Iphone and two separate Ipods all with different info and logins is a nightmare I dont want to revisit.

  • An mp3 file on my computer will not import to itunes by either the drag-and-drop or the Add File to Library method.  Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.  My OS is Windows 7.

I purchased an mp3 from a private website on my laptop.  The itunes library i sync ipod to is on my desktop, so i copied the mp3 onto a flash drive and then into my desktop in the Downloads folder and Desktop folder as well as the itunes music folder, 3 places.  I opened itunes on the desktop and read the instructions for importing music that's already in my computer.  Neither the drag-and-drop or the Add File to Library method works.  I've tried both ways over and over.  Cannot figure out what the problem is.  I do note that the name of the mp3 file doesn't show the .mp3 extension, it appears as simply it's title, Eating Healthy, without any extension at all.  Could the filename be the problem, or do you have any other idea what I'm doing wrong?  My OS is Windows 7, using IE9.  Thanks.
ADDENDUM AFTER READING ANOTHER DISCUSSION HERE:  I have now tried right clicking the song in Windows Explorer and choosing Open With, clicking itunes.  The mp3 plays in itunes but does not add to the library.

I don't have a Recently Added playlist.  However, I discovered that the file I had named Eating Healthy was given the name You Can Enjoy Eating Healthy when it copied to iTunes.  I'm guessing iTunes pulled the full name of the piece from the internet.  Upshot--the mp3 did transfer to iTunes on all 3 tries, but I was looking in my alphabetized list under E, not Y, so I didn't see it there.  Thanks for your help.

    Hello there, gleab.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews the ways to import content into iTunes:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
Also keep in mind which formats can be added:
You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • HT1176 I am trying to add my iPhoto library to files to be backed up on time machine. I am told to click on the Options Minus butto, but it is greyed out. What is the solution ?

I have been trying to add my iPhoto Library to files for time machine backup.
I was instructed to click on the Options minus button - but it is greyed out and not functional.
    What is the solution ?
Your help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Roberto Kay

You can "see" the iPhoto library in Time Machine backups, but you cannot "open" the library or "browse" the contents while you are in Time Machine.
Apple makes you restore the entire iPhoto library to another destination...like your desktop....if you want to retrieve a few older images that you may have deleted by mistake.
This is a convoluted mess, but unfortunately, that is the way it is.
See Pondini's excellent, detailed information on this:
    http://pondini.org/TM/15.html
You might also want to post in the iPhoto support area to see if the experts over there might have a workaround for you. I cannot find one, but I'm not an iPhoto expert.
