Add USB hub to Time Capsule

If I add a USB hub into a Time Capsule, can I add HDD and printer(s) into the hub at the same time?
Thanks.

Is there a limit on the number of devices (printers, HDD's) the can be accessed via the Time Capsule if I connect them through the Time Capsule's USB port via a powered USB hub?
Thanks,
Rick

How to add USB hard drives to TC after TC is already setup then access the usb drives by both PC and mac?

    1. Just plug them in. The drives need to be formatted as FAT16, FAT32, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and may need to be connected through a powered USB hub.

  • My PC cannot see a hard drive connected by usb to my Time Capsule!

    Help please.
My PC cannot see my Toshiba hard drive connected by usb to my Time Capsule. I can see the hard drive in Airport Utility. I suspect my problem may be to do with either setting up File Sharing or else mapping............if anyone can help fix this it would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Wins server is useless.. you won't have one..
Did you turn on the guest account with full read and write permissions.. ??
Can you ping the TC ip address??
Is the airport utility on the windows machine??
Do you have a mac to access the drive?
Is it real fat32 or some strange exfat which won't work?
I also wonder if it should not be formatted on directly on the TC.. or on a Mac and formatted GUID not windows type.
Sorry not all of this is logical..
If you can access the internal disk from windows.. how are you doing that??
If the external USB drive is not working.. plug it straight into the windows machine and enjoy faster better and more consistent file copying..
Share it to the network if you want network access.

  • Can Time Machine back up a second external hard drive that is attached via usb to a Time Capsule?

Can Time Machine back up a second external hard drive that is attached via usb to a Time Capsule?
    I have a iMac with 10.7.4

I want to back up the data on the external Hard Drive that is attached to the Time Capsule to the Tim Capsule using Time Machine.
Thanks for the clarification.  Unfortunately, that will not work.  You will need to connect the drive directly to your Mac if you want Time Machine to backup the drive to the Time Capsule.

  • USB printing through Time Capsule from Ipad or iphone

I connected my printer thru the USB of my Time Capsule, and I can print wirelessly from my iMac, but my iPhone and my iPad do not see the printer. It has to be air printing enable or is there other way to do it?
    Thanks!!

The bottom line here is the mobile devices use a different operating system than a Mac computer.

  • Hard drive and hub with Time Capsule

I want to add a hard drive to my Time Capsule 2TB. I've read the other posts here, but am still feeling uncertain about how to be successful. I have a printer connected, and want to keep it connected, so I know I need a hub. I have a USB-powered hard drive that I'd like to use, and I have a USB-powered hub that I could use.
    I think I understand:
    1. I cannot use a USB-powered hub with a USB-powered hard drive.
    2. I can use a USB-powered hub with an externally powered (desktop) hard drive.
    3. I can use an externally powered USB hub with a USB-powered hard drive, however, not all hubs will work in this configuration.
    Do I have this right?
And the next question, is anyone using an externally powered USB hub that they know works with the Time Capsule?

    Do I have this right?
    Yes.
And the next question, is anyone using an externally powered USB hub that they know works with the Time Capsule?
It is harder than you think to say.. brand x or brand y works.. because the companies that sell them buy from several sources and make the factories in China bid for their work.. one year they use this chip and the next year a different factory and a different chip.. but USB hubs are too cheap to get proper revisions.
So I read a belkin xyz works fine from one poster and another say that bought the same one and it failed.. both are right.. welcome to the bottom end of the market.
Buy the cheapest hub you can from whoever is nearest to you.. and check if they will swap if it does not work. The cheap generics often work fine.
I have been trying to help get a database of what is compatible.
USB drive compatibility with Airport Routers. Help make database.
This is looking particularly at USB disks. powered hubs are just too numerous.
If you want a good place to buy that is likely to stock stuff that works ring OWC (if you live in the US) for their recommended ones.. it will likely be a few dollars more but they would quickly find what is working in the stock and what doesn't.

  • How to add hard disc to time capsule

Just got new Time Capsule which works well with my MacBook pro. it says a hard disc can be added by USB but when I plugged it in it is not recognised.
    Help please

Make sure that the hard drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Check to see if the drive is recognized by using AirPort Utillty as follows:
Open up AirPort Utility and click on the Time Capsule icon
Click Edit in the smal window that appears
Click the Disks tab at the top of the window
If the drive is recognized, the drive name will appear here. In the example below, the drive is named WD Drive.
If you have checked to make sure that the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled)....also known as HFS+.....and the drive still does not appear in the AirPort Utility check, then the USB port on the Time Capsule may not be providing enough power for the drive.....even if the drive has its own power supply.
The solution in this case is to add a powered USB hub to the Time Capsule and then connect the hard drive to the powered USB hub.

  • How do I connect a Canon Selphy CP900 using the USB port on Time Capsule

I am running a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion (10.8.5) and have installed the CP 900 driver (6.2) supplied by Canon from their website.  I have a Time Capsule set up as a stand alone internal network at my home and use it as a network attched hard drive directly - not via Time Machine.  I can "see" the printer when I connect but cannot print to it.    I open a photo in preview and select the printer and print.
    I get a
    Cannin Selphy CP Generic
connection method not supported message - 9786
The printer does show up in my Print and Scan control panel in System Preferences
I also cannot reach it to check suplies
At the print it dsiplays the printer to computer connection via USB
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Asa

    Hi Asa,
I experienced the same error -9786 although I'm not using the time capsule, but only through the wifi.
I did following and resolved the problem.
    1. I re-installed the driver software.
    2. I re-configured the printer settings. (System Preferences - Printers and Scanners - "+" button)
    3. I didn't add the selphy manually, but just I just input "CP" in the searchbox in "Add" dialog, and clicked "OK" button then the printer is set automatically.
    4. I tried pringing a photo from iPhoto and could print correctly.
it looks like the key action is #2 and #3 above, so why don't you give a try?

  • Cannot print from Canon MF4412 through USB port of Time Capsule

    Hi everyone,
I've recently purchased a new Canon imageCLASS MF4412 and cannot print while connected to the USB port of the time capsule. I can print and scan perfectly when connected directly to the mac.
This is the exact steps I took:
1.After connecting the usb cable to the back of Time capsule, I go to the sys pref pane to add a printer.
2.It shows up as a 'Bonjour' and I had to manually select the driver.
3.It added fine and I thought everything was setup.
4.However, when i go to print something, there's an error. "Canon URF II Printer Driver"
"Cannon communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again. Then, if the Print Dialog box has a [Printer Info] button, acquire the printer information: 10322"
    Anybody know of a solution?
    Thanks.

I got a similar problem on MF4412, the canon 4412 is connected the newest airport extreme , it get configured. But I got same problem described about on my leopard, lion, even worst on iOS, it does not find the printer. But I got a Windows 7 starter NetBook ...haha it works, I can print it from Windows. what is the problem then,it works on Windows but not Apple's OS??????

  • Can I access multiple USB printers through Time Capsule?

I just bought a Time Capsule, and I'm loving having my USB laser printer available on my Airport Network. In fact, I'm loving it so much that I'd like to have my USB photo printer available as well.
Is it possible to have multiple printers available through the Time Capsule connected to a USB hub?

    Bingo! It worked, many thanks!
I wish I could remember which associate at my Apple Store said it wasn't possible; that he'd tried every way he could think of short of hacking the Time Capsule.
You've really helped increase the utility of my network, and I appreciate it.
    Happy Holidays!

  • Network hub for time capsule

Has anyone setup a network hub with the new time capsule/airport extreme? Looking to see what the best way to add ethernet connections without losing speed to my computers/media devices throughout the house..

Sorry, not sure what you are asking here......
Looking to see what the best way to add ethernet connections without losing speed to my computers/media devices throughout the house..
You will need to run Ethernet cabling from your Time Capsule to each area where you need an Ethernet connection in the house.
If you need more Ethernet ports to connect the cables, you can add an Ethernet switch to one of the ports on the back of the Time Capsule to add an additional 5-ports, 8-ports, 16-ports, etc.....whatever you might need.

  • Attaching USB HD to Time Capsule

I've been using a 1TB external HD to Time Machine my new MacBookPro and all is fine.
Recently, I bought a dualband Time Capsule.
After I attach the USB HD I can see the Time Machine partition of the HD, and I can select it using Time Machine and get it to backup - but it looks like it'll back up from scratch.
However, before I get too far ahead...
...Can I get TM to continue the backups from when I last did it, or do I have to start from fresh ??
...If I copy my TM backups to the Time Capsule HD, can I continue the backups ??
    Can it be done ??
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Nyarlathotep wrote:
    Thanks for that.
I should be able to partition the USB HD, so that I can keep the old backups in 1 partition and use the new partition for new backups - correct ??
Not an ideal solution, but lets me keep old backups until they become obsolete.
Yes. The new ones will be in a sparse bundle.
In a similar vein, i should be able to do something similar for my girlfriend's Time Capsule and her laptops...
...She's using an external HD for backups for laptop1, and a new TC for backups for laptop2 - but we can't "add" the USB HD backups to the TC, it'll have to be started from scratch for the laptop1.
Also right. There will be two separate sparse bundles, one for each Mac.
I'm surprised no-ones worked out a way around this situation, as I'm sure it must be quite common.
Common, yes, but apparently the difference is so fundamental that there's not much us mere mortals can do. Part of it is the unique and complex structure of TM backups, employing "multi-links." Any attempt to mess with them just breaks things, corrupting the backups.

  • Airport Extreme - Use a Printer and Ext. Harddisk via USB hub same time?

I would like to purchase a Wireless Router that would allow me to use a printer (Dell All in One 962) and an External Hard Disk (yet to buy)simultaneously. I liked the Netgear WNDR 3700 router, but it does not support printer sharing!
Would Airport Extreme Router allow me to use both at the same time via high speed USB hub? Are all USB printers and USB external hard disks compatible with this router - any compatibility guide available?
    Message was edited by: JJacob

You won't know for sure until you try, but you can get some indication by trying the following "test".
Plug the Dell device into the USB port on the AirPort Extreme and make sure it is powered up.
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock and then open Print & Fax. Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list box.
Does your printer name show up in the next box? If so, click on the printer name to highlight it, then click the Add button at the lower right to install the printer at that location.
Keep in mind that if your device is compatible, only the print function will work when your all-in-one is connected to the AirPort. Scan, copy, maintenance and other functions are not supported when the device is connected to the AirPort, so if you need these services, you'll have to connect the all-in-one directly to your computer when you need them.

  • USB Printing thru Time Capsule

I have a new MBA 13" (running 10.6.6) and a 2008 MBP 15" (running 10.5.8). My printer is a OKI c3200n and was set up on the Time Capsule (updated to 7.5.2) thru the MBP.
The MBA is about a week old and I cannot add the printer to the MBA. It appears in the TC printer tab and it appears in the "Add Printer" dialogue with the Location as the TC. However, when I attempt to select it, the "Print Using" dropdown menu does not find the driver using Autoselect, nor is my c3200n listed in the Select Printer Software choice (only Oki 24-pin and Oki 9-pin).
Further, I have downloaded the driver for Snow Leopard from Oki and installed it. I can use "Other" in "Print Using" dropdown to navigate to the installed drivers. However, selecting any of the 5 drivers available in the oki folder has no effect.
Originally, on the MBP, I downloaded the Leopard driver and set through the TC was a breeze.
Any suggestions to print off the MBA would be welcome.
    Thanks,

Sorry for the delay in responding.
I had tried the "More Printers" option as well. When I choose "OKI USB", I get nothing. There is a dialogue box that has two columns "Product" and "Kind", but there's nothing listed for me to select.
When I choose "OKI TCP/IP", it finds the 3200 in a dialogue box with a single column table called "Model Name", but wants me to enter the "Internet address or DNS address" of the printer and I don't know what it would be. (I did a number of searches on how to find the address of one's own printer and did not find anything usable by me.)
I should note that I have the printer plugged into the TC by both USB and Cat-5. The MBP uses the USB, but my PC would not. I plugged a Cat-5 in and the PC found the printer that way and prints no problem.
I had read about the 32-bit issue, but didn't understand it at first. I thought I had to set the printer (which I can't find) to 32-bit. Re-reading it, I had to set the application itself (i.e., Safari) to 32-bit. I did that and was able to the add the printer through the Cat-5 connection (as discussed above) as a "Generic PCL Laser Printer". When I attempted to print, the display on the printer said "Invalid Data" and did not complete the print job.
    Appreciate your continued help.

  • Hub with time capsule?

Is the USB port on the Time Capsule compatible with a USB hub? I'd like to use a hub to share more than one printer and/or additional hard drive.
Mine is an older Time Capsule, from maybe the end of 2008 (version 7.4.2 according to AirPort Utility), if that matters.
