Add userid to user group in Windows Vista OS

The operating system is WINDOWS VISTA on my machine. I successfully installed Oracle 10 R2 10.2.0.3 and upgraded it to 10.2.0.4.
I have the following issue after upgrading to 10.2.0.4:
From the DOS command prompt, I ran as "Run as Administrator" and then did I did sqlplus /nolog.
I have the following issue when I CONNECT / AS SYSDBA:
When I do sqlplus /nolog and CONNECT / AS SYSDBA, I get the following error:
SQL> connect / as sysdba
ORA-01031 insufficient privileges
{color:#0000ff}I should be able to CONNECT / AS SYSDBA without using the SYS password to do exports and imports.
Oracle suggests that I could ADD my userid on my machine to the ORA_DBA group (Windows Group) and this could fix the issue.
Please let me know where I can find the ORA_DBA group (Windows Group) in WINDOWS VISTA.

Right click my computer
Manage (submenu)
Computer management will appear
Find "Local user and groups" in the tree
and "Groups" under it
find "ORA_DBA" group double click and add your user.
I tried what you suggested before I posted my question.
In Windows Vista OS, I DID NOT find the "Local user and groups" in the tree.
Please let me know where I can find "Local user and groups" in the tree in Windows Vista.

Can I install iTunes in separate user accounts on Windows Vista 64-bit?

My wife and I use different user accounts on Windows Vista 64-bit. Before I go and mess things up on my computer, I wanted ask some questions:
1) Has anyone has successfully installed iTunes to multiple user account?
2) If so, has anyone successfully shared the same music root directory for 2 different iTune instances.
I'm thinking with iTunes very tight integration with the music files (for indexing/searching, etc), that it would be bad to have add/change/delete on the same music root from 2 independent installations.
Experience OR opinions welcome!

You don't install the iTunes application more than once. Each user account in Windows will have its own iTunes library.

Note that iTunes has no folder-watching capability, so if you add a track in one user account, the other user will have to add that new item manually, either by using the Add To Library command or dragging the item into the iTunes window. How to add a default user group for multiple document type's?

I am trying to add same default user group for different document types when MA is created. Is there any way to setup using a single "Document Security Template"? Or I need to create different templates for different document types?

Hi Saloni,
Based on what your specific requirement, it might be easier to do it with scripting.
If you are doing it using Document Security Templates, you would have to create a Document Security Template for each of the 6 MA types and assign the default group. Create another one and leave the Document Type field blank, so it will apply to the other 4 MA types that don't have a default group.

Creating ora_dba group in Windows vista

Hi,
I have installed Oracle 10g in a Windows vista environment. The Oracle installation guide "http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/intro.htm#i1006491" says that OUI creates the ora_dba group when the oracle s/w is installed. But, the ora_dba group is not created in my system and I also don't have a "local and users group" category in the computer management to create a group either.
The sqlnet.ora file has the parameter SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
So, I was wondering how would a user be authenticated by the OS as a dba...
and also if anybody knows how to create the ora_dba group plz reply...

The best thing you can do with Vista is download VMware Server and use it to run a Centos 4 or 5 virtual machine. Then you will see Oracle run as she was meant to be run.
Vista is a client operating system. Oracle is intended to be run on servers. Enough said.

Corrupted User Accounts in Windows Vista 64 Home Premium?

So just today, I had accidently dropped my laptop. I was logged into my user account, and it completely froze a few moments after. I had to reboot it, and when I did, I could not log in to my user account at all! I would be able to type in the password, but once I hit ENTER, it turned blank with only the Windows Vista 64 background displaying. I went on safe mode, and surprisingly, I was able to log onto the user account.
I have another user account (that I rarely use) that I could log on to safe mode as well. However on normal start-up, I was able to log in, but then it completely froze again. The second time I tried to log onto that user account, the computer completely froze when I was about to type in the password.
From what Toshiba support told me, the User accounts must have been corrupted from the drop, and they told me to Google "How to fix corrupted user accounts". However, from research I am supposed to create a new user account but I cannot make a new one because I cannot log into any of the user accounts at all. (They cannot help me any further because my warranty expired.)
So, I'm turning to you forum. How do I fix this?

I deleted the bad user accounts, and saved their files into the new user account.

Yes, SpinRite costs money. But it's a good product and the circumstances may warrant it. It might come in handy for another drive in the future as well.
In this case, you may prefer to purchase a new drive. It may turn out that you need a new drive in any case. Certainly, you should be prepared for that by having the recovery discs.

Bypass password login for user group on windows 7 machines via windows server 2003?

My management dislikes always having to log-in to a computer via passwords. To them, it's considered an inconvenient and one more thing to remember along side business. Therefore, they've asked if I can set the systems up to have which ever users
selected to log-in without a password on their accounts. I'm not an expert in the windows 2003 server admin role, so I would like some help with this.
Note - Is there a way I can access the server through a user computer logged in as admin without going to the physical server itself. It's a bit of an inconvenience since it's in the storage area. (second level)

For security reason you can use security cards. This is suitable in Active Directory environment.
If managers insist on autologon, then read (for example)

PS: Lowering security by autologon is a very bad habit. I would try to avoid this, unless using security cards.

Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 Won't Work Under One User Account in Windows Vista 32-bit

My Logitech HD Webcam C920 seems to work fine online on Flash Player under all user accounts except one. How do I fix this without having to delete that user account?

Thing is (and this is just basic troubleshooting principles):
If it works (under any account at all), - it ISN'T the camera, or it wouldn't work at all. Likewise, if it DIDN'T work under any account, it COULD be the camera.
If it works (under any account at all), - it ISN'T flash player, or it wouldn't work at all. Likewise, if it DIDN'T work under any account, it COULD be Flash Player.
So the problem HAS to be specific to this one account, and some setting(s) for the account, since the plug-in and hardware have already been proven to be working.
Unless you can pinpoint what setting for this one accoiunt is preventing it from working, you'll most likely have to create a new account to use it.

CRM 5.0 IC Webclient Issue - Upgrading OS to Windows Vista and I.E 7.0

Webclient on Internet Explorer v 6.0. Recently, there has been
plans to upgrade the OS on users' PC to Windows Vista and it
comes with I.E 7.0. I checked the Product Availability Matrix on
SAP and found that there is a patch to cater for I.E 7.0.
My users are also using CTI function. However,there is no patch for CRM SAP Groupware Connector for IE 7.0.
Please assist. If CTI cannot function with IE 7.0, my users will
be stuck with OS Windows XP.

For my customer's implementation, the ICI interface has been configured to communicate to external communication management software from Nortel.
I raised such an inquiry because, per my checking on the PAM for CRM 5.0, the information on SAP Groupware Connector is parked under the Web Browser tab. Per my understanding,the Groupware Connector executes message synchronization
between the CRM server and the Groupware server, in this case, it would be the AMC server.
I was wondering on:
1. the impact it would have on the above matter, if patches were to be applied on the server
2. whether there is a relation between the Group Connector and ICI interface, that would cause an impact on IC Webclient if patches for the browser upgraded is applied to the CRM server. There is no patch available for Groupware Connector for I.E 7.0.
The patches to be applied are for the following components:
SAP_ABA - Cross-Application Component
SAP_BASIS - SAP Basis Component
SAP_AP - SAP Application Platform
SAP_BW - BBPCRM
Please assist. I'd appreciate your help.
p/s: Are you using IE 7.0 with CRM? Was the server patch process a challanging one? Hope you can share. TQ

Authenticated User group

We have following doubt regarding Authenticated User group in Windows 7
1. When this user group is added to a Drive/folder/file automatically.
2. As per our observation, mostly it shows in the drive in which OS is installed. On some machines it shows in other drives. How this is added in other automatically.
3. Another observation is, due to the presence of this group, it is possible to write a file(which is created by administrator or system) with an application which is started with Standard User token. So do we need to add any extra permission to work
our application(with standard user token) to read and write to the folder/file with Authenticated User group.
4. Is it possible that Authenticated User group will not exist in OS installed drive.
5. Is it possible that an application with standard user cannot write to a file/folder even if Authenticated User group is present for the same.

Solution JAVA_HOME*should point to C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6
and to answer your question when you right click user security on next window there is button Add Principals

Creating a new user group?

I have created a new domain (say, TestDomain), in which I have created a portal
(say TestPortal). I went to the admin page for the web application (TestPortalWebApp)
and clicked on the 'create group portal' link. It took me to the 'Create New Group
Portal For Web' page. In this page when I click on the 'browse user groups' button,
I see a list of user groups: AdministerUser, ConfigureComponents, ConfigureSystem
etc.
Where are these coming from? How can I add my own user group to this list?

That is unfortunate and may now be dated. I recently bought a laptop with Windows Vista Premium as OS. At work, I did try to logon wirelessly to apps server. I could logon to the applications. But when the applet starts running, IE7 tried to download the JInitiator and it took a very long time to complete. Thinking it is in hung state and going nowhere, I closed the window and downloaded JInitiator from OTN. Installed it and then tried accessing apps. No luck. The browser restarts and goes back to the browser's default home page. The same happened with Firefox 2.0 also.
Finally, I tried Netscape browser 8.1 and after prolonged patient waiting, it worked. But did not work in IE7 and Firefox 2.0. I suspect it may be something to do with the firewall settings. I am now planning on uninstalling Firefox 2.0 and reinstalling it.
Bottomline, I could access apps via the applet using Netscape browser 8
