Add Yosemite Mac To Windows Domain

What are the steps I need to follow to add a Macbook Air with the latest version of Yosemite to a Windows 2008 r2 domain?
I have gone through the directory utility and set up DNS etc. but when I log out to the login screen the wifi does not connect automatically so I cannot log in as my domain user.

Hi All sorry for the delay but busy busy. Now I have to some extent sorted this out and the whole thing works well. Cant share printers thought but never mind get round that by saving to the shared file opening it up in another computer and print from that for fast B/W the others are compatible with mac. Now I need to find out how to make the external drives usable when there plugged in Now I can read from them but cant save to them and i haven't a clue how to change to permission so that I can save to them and also I need to connect my Netgear Sc101 Storage to it all these headaches. Well Have a Merry Christmas All.

  • Add mac to windows domain

    Hi, everyone
I need to get connected to a corporate domain, which is Windows based server.
I have both the name and address of the domain, my user name and password.
But my MBP says all the time that either "server is not existing...." or "can notfind server...."
I would appreciate some help solving this.
    Thanks.

    Hi BDAqua,
Why should we create a user again? The point is I am going to join this Mac Mini to a windows domain controller. Windows domain controller means a centralized database of an organization. It is communicating with my Domain controller. But the issue is it is not founding my domain node while joining to a domain. Please find the attached screen shots for your reference. If you have worked on this please send me step by step configuration.

  • Joining mac to windows domain what are the best practice?

    Hi,
I work in a MNC environment and we have been using Windows based system 95% of our servers are on windows and as of now 100% of our users are on windows. Now we are looking forward to give our management some Mac's. I wanted to know what would be the best practice to be followed in order to add Mac's to our existing domain's and use our AD. At the same time we have windows based file servers which are added to the user using windows script's on to the user profile.
    Thanks & Regards,

    1) Use section name instead of Title View to name your report. This way sections can be collapsed and user can still see report name.
    2) Enable alternate coloring in tables and pivots for easy readablity and set table and pivot widths to 100% (for reports in dashboards) to reduce white space and achieve a more "professional look."
    3) Use column selectors and view selectors to reduce the width of reports and reduce the amount of columns user sees to a "practical minimum."

  • How do I add a Mac to a Windows Server 2003 or 2008 domain?

I recently started working for a public school district that runs Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 R2. There are several faculty members, myself included, that would like to get their Macs onto the domain and capable of file sharing, printing to network printers, etc. I cannot find decent instructions anywhere. Could someone please point me in the right direction or give me some directions? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm also new to the MAC world - I trust you were able to join the MAC's to the domain - I finally figured it out. However, I have not been able to get the MAC's to save to the Windows 2008 server where I have student folders setup. Have you been able to do this? If so can share the info with us.
    Thanks,

  • Mac OS X 10.6 Setting up and Printing to Windows Domain Printers

    Hi Guys,
I have a Windows Domain currently running here at work. I am running a print server on one of our Windows 2003 Servers.
I have successfully joined 4 Mac Pro machines to the domain. They are all logging on to the domain and can access shares etc.
My problem is that I wish to add the networked printers that appear on the domain print server to the Mac Pros.
When i go to System Preferences > Print and Fax then click the + button. I see a list of all the printers that are exclusively installed on the Windows Print Server.
Some are listed in the Add Printer window as Bonjour and some Open Directory. The Bonjour items I can add fine, its the Open Directory ones that are causing me problems.
How can I add these printers to each machine without manually installing the drivers for each printer on each Mac. Why am I seeing some Bonjour listed printers and some that are not?
Any help would be very much appreciated

Some are listed in the Add Printer window as Bonjour and some Open Directory. The Bonjour items I can add fine, its the Open Directory ones that are causing me problems.
How can I add these printers to each machine without manually installing the drivers for each printer on each Mac.
The answer depends on what printer description language (PDL) these Windows shared printers support. If they are Postscript then it is possible that a PPD for the printer may already exist on the Mac and so all you need to do is select it from the Print Using menu. And if the PPD is not present then you can still select Generic Postscript. But the thing to note is that since you are sharing the queue from Windows, rather than connecting directly to the printer (as you are doing with the Bonjour printer) then the Mac does not know what the printer is so you still need to manually select the correct printer on the Mac.
If the printer is not Postscript and requires a proprietary printer language then would have to manually install this driver on every Mac. And even with this driver installed on the Mac there is no guarantee that it will work via the Windows share. Many vendor drivers are written for direct communication to the network printer. Sticking a Windows queue in between stops the Mac driver from communicating with the printer and this in turn stops the Mac from printing. So if you can tell us what printer models you have then we can provide better information.
Why am I seeing some Bonjour listed printers and some that are not?
Not all network printers support Bonjour. Often only newer models of business printers support this protocol, while it is more prevalent in consumer printers. And what you are seeing is a multicast coming directly from the printer. So if you don't want the users to bypass your Windows print server and connect directly to these printers, then you may not want them broadcasting their presence.
But the benefit of the printer using Bonjour is that they are able to communicate with the Mac what they are and this helps with the Mac determining which printer driver to use,  so as you have noted the setup for the Bonjour printer on Mac is easy, because it helps the help with selecting the correct driver.
Hope this helps with your questions. Please reply if you need more information

  • Adding mac in Windows 2000 domain

Hello, I need add a mac OS 10.3.9 in a windows 2000 domain,

  • Problem with a Mac in a windows domain

Hello, we have 1 user in our Windows domain that uses a mac. He has access to a shared drive on a file server, and has all possible permissions. The problem is that he cannot delete or rename files created by others, while he should be able to since he has the rights to do it. Is there a way to fix that?

Are you sharing it out for him as AFP via File and PRint Services for Macintosh?
If so if you go to the main server admin console and click on shares. Then click on the afp share (youll notice it has liek a little network box on the folder instead of the hand) and got to porperties, near the bottom of the window there is a check box that makes the volume read only. Remove the check and apply/ok out and have him reconnect.
If youre using SMB try to connect form his mac as an administrator and see if you have the same problem.

  • OS X Yosemite not finding computers/printers in a windows domain

    Hi,
I'm trying to add printers on my macbook pro from a windows domain. So when i try to add a printer i use the windows tab for printers and wait for the domain name to appear which it does, but after that nothing happens... This worked on 10.9.5 but it was usually slow to show everything but at least the server showed up.
So what do i do? i tried to have only wired connection, only wireless and both online at the same time but the server never lists so that i can add my printers.
I'd really like to add the printer through the server and i tried to add it manually but it only says invalid adress.
The printer i'm trying to add is an OKI C310dn.

  • Joining a Mac OS X server to a Windows Domain

Hi all, new to the forums here and fairly new to a Mac environment. I'm looking for some guidance and assistance with how to join a Mac Server to an existing Windows domain. My questions are what kinds of options do I have for setting up a server that will be part of the Windows domain and also hosting multiple Mac clients. I looked briefly at the server options like stand alone, member server, domain server, etc. I'm having trouble distinguishing what we want the server to be defined as. I'm also wondering what are the steps I'll need to take in order to join the system to the Windows domain. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

You use the Directory Access app found in the /Applications/Utilities folder to join the computer to the domain. Once there you can see what options you have.
You also may want to browse http://www.macwindows.com and/or post further questions you have in the Windows Compatibility forum:

  • Is it possible to run a Windows domain with a Mac Server?

Looking for some advice on getting rid of our Windows domain controller (DHCP server, AD, etc.) in favour of a Mac Server (which we own).  Is it possible to run a Windows domain with a Mac Server?

Snow Leopard Server (10.6) and earlier included Samba which supported acting as an NT Domain Controller (this pre-dates Active Directory). Lion (10.7) and later as standard can no longer act as an NT Domain Controller nor can they act as an Active Directory server.
So the short answer is no.
Theoretically you could port Samba4 to a Mac and Samba4 can act as an Active Directory server. In reality this is not going to be easy but is theoretically possible.
An easier option might be to run a copy of Linux (e.g. Ubuntu) in a virtual machine e.g. using VirtualBox and then run Samba4 in that and configure it to act as and Active Directory server. Then you could connect the Mac side to the Samba4 Active Directory server. This approach would use all Mac hardware, and not have any extra costs of licenses to buy and as far as all the rest of the network is concerned would be a standard Active Directory server environment.

  • Slow transfer speeds between Mac Pro and Shared Drive on Windows Domain

    Hi Guys,
Getting really slow transfer speeds when I try and transfer a file from a Mac Pro to a shared network drive on one of our Windows 2003 Servers.
The Mac Pro is logged on to windows domain. This data is transferring via our hard network, not via wireless. Not having any other transfer speed issues on any other PC's.
For example an 8mb file took around 45 mins.
Hope you can help. Many Thanks.

I saw this at a site where they were using DFS with Server 2003. When the few Mac's they had connected to the actual server and uploaded the file it was okay. But when it was sending the file via the \\DFS_node\share_name the Mac took heaps longer for the same file. Watching the Activity Monitor > Network monitor you could see gaps with the data transfer, as if there was some pausing between packets. A pcap showed that there was constant DNS requests coming from the Mac, even after the connection to the share was made. The same wasn't happening when the connection via SMB was directly to the actual file server. As there was only a few Mac on site they left it with the direct connection but were getting an MS specialist in to look at it. Never heard what happened with that one but you may want to try monitoring the packet transfer to see if the data movement is contstant or breaking. I'd also recommend getting Wireshark to monitor the transfer. You can compare upload to download and maybe even the transfer from the Mac to an MS workgroup share.
