"Add you on skype"

What does it mean when you get a msg (not an sms, just a line in the center of the "recent" Skype screen) that says "Someone wants to add you on Skype". I've received a few of these over time, never a name I've ever heard of, some in what appears to g Russian. I am in the U.S.. What does it men? Many thanks for taking the ime

You can either give them your email address (the same you use to login with) or your generic Skype name, which is live:emailname.

Hold the Skype app icon down until it jiggles then tap the x then tap Delete.
Now go to the App Store and re download Skype.
To receive notifcations from Skype tap Settings > Notifications
If you don't have a Skype account, after you tap the app you should be prompted to set one up.
You will need to purchase Skype credit in order to send SMS or make calls.

Couldn't add you to the Family plan as your account needs to be based in the same country

I sent a Family plan invite to my wife's email address. After resting her password (perhaps she's not the one who made the account?) she tried to accept the invite by entering the token. She was told: We couldn't add you to the Family plan as your account needs to be based in the same country as the Family plan owner. We checked and both profiles show USA as the country. What's the hang up?

Can you check if the country of both accounts match? You can check this by going to the Account Overview page.
If one of the accounts doesn't match, then change it to the right country.

Many add-ons work only with a particular range of Firefox versions. After the upgrade, Firefox will attempt to find new compatible versions. This is not always possible.
To determine whether an add-on you can't live without has a version for Firefox 11, you can check the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ Add-ons site] or try this add-on to make that a little easier (I haven't tried it myself): [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/is-it-compatible/ Is It Compatible? :: Add-ons for Firefox].
By the way, many recent posts report problems with Skype add-ons, so you might want to research here if you notice any strange copy/paste problems.

Feature request for Address Book: add possibility to Skype name

I had "misused" the IM fields to store Skype telephone names, but the disadvantage is that they show up in iChat. I have tried to add them to the telephone fields (which is more correct), but that works only for those names which have alphanumeric charactes. As soon as you have for instance dots in that name, this does not work (on Mac OS X you are not able to make a skype named field via other, and syncing via MobileMe to the iPhone leaves out the dots and no way to edit them in).
Skype is becoming more and more mainstream and I think that adding this functionality would be good on both Mac OS X as well as iPhone.

No option to add members in Skype Manager

I had a member of my Skype Manager remove themselves by accident. When I log into my Skype Manager to add them back, the option isn't there. The only options I have are Members Overview and Create Accounts. The Add Members option is not there. I need to know how to add them back. Thanks.

Share how you keep Skype running

I thought that it would be helpful for a lot of people if there was a thread written with the sole purpose of depicting ways to address Skype run-time issues, like how to keep Skype running despite its tendency to crash without having to manually restart it.
So, for the most part, try to only post comments--by comments I mean posts, I just didn't want to be redundant and say 'post posts'--that address some specific thing that you were trying to get Skype to do like
Webcam support
Sound Server support
or V4Linux support (if that's not exactly the same thing as webcam support)
and how you were able to get Skype to do it. Please, do not post answers to unresolved, or otherwise partially fixed support, problems. This is a place to share helpful, useful, and (at least mostly) automatic scripted workarounds. The scripts can be in any programming language, not just scripting ones, although scripting ones are best suited for this kind of thing.
As to what I mean by 'partially fixed problems': I'm talking about problems that still require user intervention in order to keep the problem-fixing-script going. Like, every time the script finishes running, you have to manually restart it. This is different from a mostly automatic script that has to be started by the user (as opposed to being started by the system at start-up or when X is initiated), but that once started continues to run until the user forcibly terminates it. Like 'killall -s KILL myscript.sh', for example.
I'll start off by posting a script that I use to handle a webcam support problem that I have with Skype.
(Note, this is my first attempt at a really big thread/post, so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed because doing something like this is rather intimidating for me, a forum-newbie. )

I'm still using the beta version of Skype, that is version 2.2.0.35; it crashes every now and again because I have to run it with a v4l preload--its crashes seem to have a domino effect on itself, in that if it crashes once then it's twice as likely to immediately crash again. So here's my little workaround that keeps Skype going; I hope that somebody will find it useful or will have some suggestions for how I can make it run better.

My script works extremely well, most of the time. Whenever Skype crashes because of a preload error, it just starts Skype right back up again. However, it isn't so great at being able to tell the difference between when Skype is actually running and when it isn't. In fact, 9 times out of 10, if Skype is already running and I start up my little 'ensur-skype' script: my script will start Skype up anyhow regardless of whether Skype is already running or not. And I think it's because of my usage of
if top -n2 | grep "Skype" ; then ...
When I actually just run 'top -n2 | grep "skype"' in the terminal, it rarely actually manages to grep Skype from top, but I really don't know of any other way to determine whether Skype is already running. Any suggestions as to how to check for a Skype run-time without risking the possibility of starting two instances of Skype in the process?

iWeb 2 has a Web Widget" button that allow you to add an html "snippet".
Copy the html code from the YouTube page and paste using the feature above.

Hi All, I tried to disucuss this over live chat but had no luck as the tech guy kept asking if I wanted to add Skype credit for voice calls :-/ Basically what im asking for help with is if its possible to create group in Skype Manager, Create accounts and make them members of that group and then create a contacts list of other Skype manager users and then auto allocate that to all users within the group so when I give out the account details to my users when they login they already have the other company users added without having to login to Skype on the web and add them manually. How do you cancel skype premium????

The process to cancel skype premium does not seem to work. I have tried it online, on a Mac and on a Windows computer. When you go to group video and click the "change my account settings" link, it says I don't have an internet connection. How do you think I was on the page to be able to even click the button? I find it interesting that you can sign up for it very easily but cancelling does not work. I also find it interesting that there is apparently no way to contact anyone at skype to report this as a problem or cancel it. HOW DO I CANCEL SKYPE PREMIUM?????

I think such is not possible yet. For now, you can use a recorder such as Supertintin for windows, and eCamm for mac to record your video calls. Both can record in Youtube upload ready formats. There is a guy named Matthew Frank says he is from New York, New York and is a widow his wife was killed in a plane crash. Says he has a son named Christ that is 15 years old in a boarding school.
Supposedly he works over seas as a Captain and is at sea over in Japan. He was asking me to send him money for his son that was getting ready to travel to AFRICA for a Exhibition.
Be aware of these types of scams if you are communicating with someone you do not know. Here is is profile on SKYPE.
