+Added Airport Card to G4 867 Quicksilver - Not seein' any wireless signals

Hi hello there,
I got this G4 running 10.5 for surfin and music - but I can't seem to get the Airport workin on it.
I have a laptop that is currently using the Airport Express... So I know how to set it up. And I know it's sending out the signals
I installed an Airport card - It's in my "About this mac" so I know it's recognized.
I rebooted (held if for long until it beeped {thanks IT guy}) I zapped the p-ram - It's ON. I got a lil Amber icon next to it in the Network controls. And It's in my Shortcut Airport menu - but I don't see nobody - no networks.
What am I doing wrong?

Download & try MacStumbler @ http://www.macstumbler.com/ to see if it can detect any signal.
 Cheers, Tom

    Hi,
we had a poster here who had the same problem with a card still under warranty. Apple service checked it and it was dead, he got a free exchange.

 menu/About this Mac/System Information (at the bottom, may be called something else) - run that and see if the Airport card is detected.
    Some things you can try.

  • My macbook air 2013 will not find any wireless printers

My macbook air 2013 with OS X 10.9.3 will not find any wireless printers. I've tried to add printers at a number of different locations and each time it fails to find any printers despite one's being online and fully functional. I am able to print from my iPhone on these networks to the wireless printers but my macbook air won't find any at all? The macbook air is online using the wifi network no problem - just won't find any printers, please help.

You can download and run the free application Bonjour Browser. It will show whether the printer is detectable on the network. The printer should show up in one or more of the following categories:
    Internet Printing Protocol
    Print Spooler
    Printer PDL Data Stream
    Remote I/O USB Printer

  • Adding Airport card to 867mhz Ti Powerbook?

    Hi,
I have a 867mhz Titanium Powerbook that i need to add an Airport card too, how do do this and what will it (roughly) cost?

Just an added note to eww's info: I checked ebay a couple of months ago, and people were selling supposedly new/sealed cards for over $100, used a little under that.
Make sure you get an ORIGINAL AP card, NOT an Extreme or the newer version. You may also want to consider a PCMCIA wireless card (fits in PC card slot). Most people get better distance, they're cheaper, and you can get the "g" style (54mbps instead of 11). The drawback is that it takes up that slot and sticks out the side 3/4 of an inch or so. Some brands work seamlessly with Apple's built-in AP software.

  • Airport card 1.2.1 does not work with Ibook G3 with OSx.4.2

I just purchased a brand new airport express base station. It seems to be up and running on my G4Imac just fine as a server.
    For the client,
I have an ibook G3 and now have OSX.3.4 on it.
I installed my ancient Airport card- 1.2.1 into the Ibook.
I installed the new software from the new Airport base station.
I tried to install the old software from the Airport 1.2.1 card but dont have Classic- so would not install.
Now, the Ibook does not allow me to choose Airport in the Network Preferences section- does not seem to recognize there is a card installed. So, no way to connect to the base station.
    My questions:
1.can OS X..3.4 recognize the old Airport 1.2.1?
    2. Does the software from the new base station support the old card when used in the client?
    3. Do I need different software for the card in the iBook other then the base station software? ie, is there card software that needs to be installed, and if so what is it in system X?
Im trying to figure out if I have a hardward problem- ie the card or slot is not working- or s software problem.
    Can anyone help?

MacOS 10.3.x has all the software to use an Airport card already installed. All I would recommend you do is install the Airport 4.1 update provided at:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airport41formacosx.html
The software that ships on the CD that came with the Airport Express is only used to configure an Airport Express. It doesn't provide any software updates for the MacOS itself, nor for the Airport card installed in that Mac.
First thing I suggest you do - run the System Profiler utility on your Mac. See if it identifies that an Airport card is installed. If it does not then recheck the installation of the card - ie pull out the card, then plug it in again and make sure it is fully seated into its socket. Remember to also attach the antenna cable to the card. If the System Profiler still fails to "see" the installed Airport card, then the card itself is likely defective.
[Side note: Airport 1.2.1 was the version of the Airport software required to provide software support for the card in ancient MacOS versions. Airport 1.2.1 is not actually installed on the Airport card itself, so if you install an original Airport card into another Mac it makes no difference what Airport version was installed on the Mac the card was pulled from.]

  • The AirPort card on my MBP says "Not Configured"

I am traveling overseas and all of the sudden my AirPort card won't function. It says "Not configured" and I have not been able to turn it back on in order to log into WIFI networks. I tried the Network Assistant and it tells me the AirPort is not on but it is also unable to turn it on. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!
    Walter

Can you see the AirPort card in System Profiler (Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info)?
Here are some things to try to reset the connection settings on your Mac:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    3) In the same panel as (2), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    4) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    5) In the folder /Library/Preferences (not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
They may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.

  • Upgrading OSX to 10.4, adding airport card basics...

    Hi All,
Just wanted to make sure I had this right before I hunted down a purchase of 10.4. for my iMac G4 FP. It has 512 of ram.
I can go from my current 10.2.8 on it to 10.4 (skipping 10.3) or even 10.5 although I've read that 10.4 seems to run better on the FPimac? I need only find 10.4 DVD software? I am not sure of all the 10.4 iterations out there like updates versus full package etc..,
I can add a wireless airport card although they are hard to find and about $80.00?
Can anyone suggest a reputable seller for these 2 items?
    Thanks,
    Al

First identify which Flat Panel iMac you have:
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n301724
If it is pre-1 Ghz, you need the original airport card from one of these vendors:
    http://www.macwireless.com/html/products/wirelesscards/11g_11bcards/airportcard.php
    http://www.a1acomputing.com/usorapaicam7.html
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/M7600LLE/
If it is 1 Ghz or higher you can buy in the in store Airport Extreme card.
    As for Tiger:
    http://www.allmac.com/shop/productinfo.php?productsid=6899
Sometimes you can also call the Apple Store direct and ask for it by asking for their legacy software store.

  • HELP!!  AirPort card not detecting any wireless networks?!?

hi, i just had an AirPort extreme card installed in my PowerBook G4, and so far, everywhere i try to access wireless, all it says is "no AirPort networks in range."
I have AirPort turned on, and AirPort and "automatic" and "DHCP"selected in Network preferences, and i have the little icon with the gray bars in the top menu bar, but the lines are always gray, even when everyone around me is getting wireless just fine.
I don't know if this matters, but i don't have a base station or anything at home - i only got wireless to use at cafes, etc, or on university campus where they have wireless. at home i just have a free dialup service, so i use a modem.
Also, i'm really confused reading these posts - everyone's talking about "naming" networks, and passwords, and IP addresses, but the apple guy said that once the card is in and AirPort is on, it should just "pick up" whatever network is available. is that true?
if it's working, does the "name" of the random, supposedly "open" and available network in the cafe/hotel/school building just magically "appear" on the menu? Or do i have to do something or configure something each time to set it up? i just really don't understand and no one seems to be able to help. and i just spent a lot of money on this card. can anyone please help???!!?!?
I even opened it up again and checked to make sure the little cable was clicked firmly into the card, and it sure looked like it was.
    thanks!!!!

Double check that the antenna cable is FULLY seated into its socket on the Airport card - doing this properly takes a fair bit of force.
If your Mac's Airport interface is working properly, indeed all you need to do is click on the Airport menu item. A list of all in-range wireless networks will be shown, and you can simply click (to connect) on the name of the network you wish to join. Just like magic!

  • Adding airport card?

I ordered my Mac G5 without an airport card (dumb!) and now have wireless U-verse service, plus just bought a MacBook Pro, a wireless capable all-in-one printer, and have a Mac airport base station. I can use the MacBook with the U-verse router, but of course, can't use the G5 with it. I'd like to add that capability and don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
The G5 is compatible with the Apple Airport Extreme card.
If the G5 is a Late 2005 model, then it takes a special card.
All other G5's use this one:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3024
    Installation is easy:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/airport_card.pdf
    Availability:
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-M8881LL-AirPort-Extreme-Card/dp/B0000899ZB
PCI adapters are also available, with these being some of the better choices:

  • AirPort in G4 not recognizing new wireless signal

Two weeks ago we replaced our Belkin wireless with a new Linksys router. My kids use my old 466 MHz PowerPC G4 running 10.4.1. For the first time tonight we tried to log onto the wireless network and AirPort won't join our network. I can select the network, but when I enter our password I get the error message "there was an error joining the airport network." We also have an AirPort Express, for our printer, that the computer is not detecting.
I have a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Due MacBook Pro running 10.4.11 which transitioned to the new wireless router fine.
Is my Airport card in the G4 fried? I can still see our wireless network (and our neighbors) I'm just not able to access them. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    i dont know!
    on my belkin there's a setting on my system page for the router, it has 3 separate modes a. 802.11n, b. 802.11 g&n c. 802.11 b, g, and N
i'm going to guess that your router doesn't have the older spec enabled, so it can't connect.
hopefully you know your routers setup ip address, just look around your wireless options and see if it has anything close to what i listed. I had the same issue recently and that was the culprit.

  • X31: not detecting any wireless network

My IBM thinkpad is not detecting any network when my wireless router is on. I have checked the windows zero configration and it shows that it has started. The radio signal is also lighted and shown at the centre of the display bottom. My thinkpad is using the cisco pci wireless lan adapter and I have also check the driver, it show working. When I use a USB wireless adapter it can detect my router and connect.
Why cant my internal wireless adapter detect  my router when the radio signal is on , windows zero configration started and the pci wireless card enable already.
    Thanks,
    alvin

try to run the PC-Doctor diagnostic on the laptop wireless card.

  • TIME CAPSULE NOT SENDING A WIRELESS SIGNAL

I am setting up a new time capsule machine 500m, and i have the green light on. have existing buffalo router connected to a dsl modem. the buffalo hands out via an ethernet connection to the wan port of the TC. i have an ethernet cable plugged into the TC and i get internet signal via hardwaire, but i can't see the TC wirelessly. when i open the airport it is not in the list of available wireless networks. i have tried resetting the TC, but no luck,,,, can anyone help shake this down?

I need a little more info to help troubleshoot this one....
Does the Buffalo router send out a wireless signal too? Is it in default configuration and can the computer connect to the internet through the router by simply plugging in a cable or choosing the wireless network?
You'll have to connect wired to the TC for the next questions. In Airport Utility>Time Capsule manual setup>wireless tab, what is the setting for wireless mode & radio mode? And then under wireless options, is the box checked for create closed network?
Now go to the Internet tab and what is the setting for connection sharing?
